Chapter 6. Underground Tunnels
3rd POV:
There were maps spread around the room, everyone keeping themselves busy one way or another. Rose and the Doctor were at the President's desk, hovering over a map together.
Canton walked over to them wondering why they were looking at florida in particular. "That's where NASA lives. She mentioned a spaceman, and that's where the spacemen live." Rose replied in a hurried tone, not looking away at the map.
"Exactly right, but there is another lead I'm following." The Doctor added.
Rose looked at him in suspicion, wondering what he was talking about. "And what lead is that?"
They both looked at each other. Attention away from the maps for the first time in a while. "Wouldn't you like to know." He said with a smug look on his face.
After talking to River Amy saw a weird sort of creature in the door frame. She remembered seeing it at the beach. But she forgot, how could she have forgotten a creature like that. "I remember."
"What do you remember?" Rory asked. He was starting to worry about her. This was the second time today she said something out of the blue like that.
Amy wasn't feeling well, and she didn't know why that could be. "I don't know. I just,"
Everyone looked at her worried. "Amy, are you alright?" Rose asked, she looked like she was going to throw up.
"Yeah, I'm just feeling a bit sick. Excuse me is there toilet?" She asked one of the bodyguards.
"This way ma'am." The guard said guiding her to the door
"Wait, I'll come with you." She said to Amy.
Amy looked at her, really not wanting for her come with. "Um, no, it's fine. You don't have to."
"Nonsense, us girls have to stay together. I'll be back Doctor."
"You better." He replied not looking up from the maps.
The guard led them out of the room, and toward the bathroom. Amy really didn't want Rose to come with her. But maybe this was her chance to ask her about her relationship with the Doctor. River refuses to say anything about her. And there's no point in asking the Doctor either. He would just turn her down and not give her a straight answer.
They walked into the bathroom, not expecting to the same creature from earlier standing there in front of them both. "I saw you before at the lake, and here. But I forgot. How did I forget?"
Rose looked straight at it, knowing that she faced worse then this monster. "What are you?" A woman came out of the stall, not noticing the creature. "Get back. Get back from it." Rose warned her.
She turned toward the alien, and yelped. She didn't seem frightened of it, she thought that it was from a movie or someone she knew in a costume. "Get back from it, now!" Amy yelled at her. The woman turned back around looking at the two girls confused.
"Back? Back from what?" She turned back around toward the monster saying exactly what she said before.
Rose was seriously starting to get frustrated, "Please, you have to stay back!" She turned back around and said exactly what she said a second ago. All of a sudden the lights started to flicker. The woman paid no attention to it saying that they never fix them. "Look behind you!" She yelled again. Warning her about the alien once again. But this time, it was too late. It killed her for no particular reason.
Amy was upset, "You didn't have to kill her. She couldn't even remember you. How does that work, we only remember you while we're seeing you?" She took out her phone and took a picture of the alien. Once Amy was done talking the picture of it, she asked, "Why did you kill her?"
"Joy. Her name was Joy. Your name is Amelia, and you are the Bad Wolf."
Rose was in shock, no she was worse than that. She was petrified, how could it have known that? There are only so few people who know about that.
"You will tell the Doctor."
"Tell him what?" Amy asked it.
"What he should know, and what he should never know."
Rose grabbed Amy's arm and pulled her toward the door. They walked out back to the guard, he asked how Amy was feeling. Replying to him saying that she felt much better. Rose looked to Amy, "We have to tell the Doctor."
Amy and the guard both looked at Rose confused. "Tell him what?" the guard asked her.
"About what we saw in the bathroom."
Amy was confused, "What are you talking about?"
Now Rose was confused, how could Amy not remember what just happened. But she remembered that you forget about the creature once you look away from it. But why could she remember, and not Amy? Bad Wolf. Rose thought, Now it all makes sense. "Nevermind" She replied brushing it off like it didn't matter. She had to talk to the Doctor about this new enemy soon, before it was too late.
As soon as Amy and Rose entered the room, the phone started ringing. The President was looking around at everyone unsure of whether to answer it or not.
"Here! The only place in the United States that call could be coming from." The Doctor said, proud of himself.
"You sir, are a genius."
"It's a hobby."
Rose looked at Canton with a warning look on her face. "Don't boost his ego too much, or he won't stop talking about himself all night."
"Oi" The Doctor said looking at Rose. He was happy to have Rose back, he missed her more than he could ever miss anyone. There was of course one question on his mind about her though. What happened to the clone of himself, she wouldn't just leave him or her family behind. He needed to talk to her about that as soon as he gets the chance.
"Mister President answer the phone."
Nixon answered the phone "Hello?"
"The Spaceman is here! It's going to get me! It's going to eat me!" The little girl cried out of terror.
The Doctor grabbed Rose's hand and ran back to the Tardis. "No time for a swat team. Mister President, tell her help is on the way. Canton on no account follow me into this box, and close the door behind you." Canton followed them all into the box. Stopping in his tracks, in awe of what he saw inside.
The Doctor was rushing around with everyone gathering around the council, ready to head to their next destination. "Jefferson isn't a girl's name, it's not her name either. Jefferson, Adams, Hamilton. Rose."
Rose was at the computer next to River. "Three of America's founding fathers." After saying that she looked at the Doctor.
"Lovely fellows, two of them fancied me."
"Oh, I bet they did." Rose replied with her signature tongue in cheek smile. The Doctor didn't realize how much he missed that smile until now.
The Doctor went back to what he was doing running around the Tardis. "The President asked her two questions. Where are you and Who are you? She was answering the where."
Rose looked at the Doctor, excited to be back in this new adventure. She felt so at home, she knew right away that this is where she belonged. "Where would you find three historical names in a row like that?" Rose asked.
"Here" He replied. He ran straight for the door dragging Rose with him. Everyone else ran behind them. Heading out to find out where they landed, running past Canton who was still awestruck by the machine in front of him. Rory of course stayed behind with Canton to help calm and explain to him what is going on.
Amy looked around they ending up in some sort of an old warehouse. "Where are we?"
"About 5 miles from the Cape Kennedy Space Center. It's 1969, the year of the moon." The Doctor answered.
"But why would a little girl be here?"
"The president asked the little girl where she was. She did what any lost girl would do." Rose started.
"She looked out the window." The Doctor finished, looking out the window at the street names. "The only place in Florida, probably all of America, with those three street names on the same junction. And Rose you have that face on again."
Rose looked at the Doctor confused. "What face."
"The hot when he's clever face."
She looked at the Doctor with a smile spread across her face. "I have no idea what your talking about. This is my normal face."
"Yes it is."
"Oh shut up."
"Not a chance."
Amy was starting to get annoyed at their bantering. They were flirting with each other, and he hasn't even explained who she was. Given she hasn't exactly asked him, but she shouldn't have to. She deserves an explanation, and she was going to eventually get it out of him.
Canton and Rory eventually came out of the Tardis, still in shock of course. "We moved."
"You haven't even covered space travel yet?" The Doctor asked.
"Yeah, well I was going to cover it with time travel."
The Doctor and the rest of the gang went to explore a little more of the warehouse, trying to figure out why exactly a little girl would be here. "You realize this is most definitely a trap right?" The Doctor asked River.
"I noticed the phone, yes." River answered.
"What about it?"
"It was disconnected. So, how did the child phone from here?" She answered Amy.
Rose was looking around the warehouse. "Ok, but why would a little girl be here in the first place. I mean this isn't exactly the kind of place kids would just hang about."
"That is true. Let's find her, and ask her." The Doctor replied.
While they were walking around, they came across some technology. "What is this?" Rose asked anyone who was listening. "Is this even human?"
"Definitely not, it alien tech." River replied. "Probably not even from this time zone."
"Which is odd, because look at this!" The Doctor yelled, running toward some spacesuits.
River and the gang walked toward the crate of spacesuits. "It's Earth tech. It's Contemporary."
"It's very contemporary. Cutting Edge." The Doctor was getting way too excited about the spacesuits. Rose thought he looked like a little kid opening his presents on Christmas day.
"So it's stolen?" Rose asked.
Amy looked at her "What by aliens?"
The Doctor picked up a helmet, inspecting it. "Apparently"
"But why would they do that? If they can make it all the way to Earth, why steal technology that can barely make it to the moon?" Amy said, making an excellent point.
The Doctor put on the helmet, excited to the moon and back. "Maybe because it cooler. Look how cool this stuff is?"
"Cool aliens?" Amy asked
"Well what would you call me?"
"An alien."
"Oi!" The Doctor said taking off the helmet.
Rose turned to him "Don't worry, I think your cool."
"Thank you Rose." The Doctor said back, watching her walk away to look around a bit more.
Amy went up to the Doctor, wanting to ask him a question. "Doctor, I just have a simple question."
He turned to Amy, his full attention on her. "Of course."
"Well, I was just wondering. Who is she?"
"Who's who?" The Doctor asked, confused.
"Rose, who is she really?"
"I don't know what your talking about?"
"I mean, who is she, why is she."
"Amy she is just another friend who I used to travel with. Why she's here, I don't know." The Doctor wanted to know that as well. How did she get here in the first place. "And if you want to know who she is, why not ask her yourself?"
Amy was upset, there was something he wasn't telling her. "Yeah, right I'll do that." She didn't get any sort of an answer that she was happy with.
Rory and Canton come into the room, ready to work. "I think he's ok now." Rory said.
The Doctor turned away from Amy and turned his attention toward Canton. "Back with us Canton?"
"I like your wheels." Canton said turning his light in the direction of the Tardis.
"That's my boy. So little girl let's find her." The Doctor said looking around a bit more.
Amy went toward River, she had an idea and she wanted to run it by River and get her on board. "River"
"I know what your thinking."
"No you don't"
"You're thinking if we can find the spaceman in 1969 and neutralise it, then it won't be around in 2011 to kill the Doctor."
"Okay, lucky guess."
"It's only because I was thinking it too."
"So let's do it."
"It doesn't work like that. We came here because of what we saw in the future. If we try and prevent the future from happening, we create a paradox."
"Time can be rewritten."
"Not all of it."
"Says who?"
"Who do you think?"
"Alright well, what about Rose"
"What about her?"
"How much do you know about her?"
"Everything."
"How much can you tell me?"
"Nothing."
"Of course not."
"Look, just ask her yourself. That's what I had to do. What's that? Doctor!"
River called the Doctor over to a sort of tunnel. Of course she was gonna check it out. "So where does that go?" The Doctor wondered while River opened the hatch (Sorry I'm stupid and don't know what it's actually called. Or if it's called a hatch)
"There's a network of tunnels running under here."
"Life signs?"
"No nothing that's showing up." River started to head down into the tunnels. Ready to have a look around.
"Be careful!"
River looked up at the Doctor. "Tried that once. Ever so dull."
"Shout if you get into trouble!" He yelled down to her as she headed down.
"Don't worry! I will!" She yelled back.
The Doctor looked around some more, he decided that this would be the best time to talk to Rose. He walked up to Rose with a smile on his face. "Hello"
"Hello" She replied to him, with a smile on her face.
"I missed you so much."
She looked at him with sadness in her eyes "I missed you too, and the Tardis, and just all this" she said gesturing the surrounding area with her hands. "Is it bad that I missed all of this danger?"
"No, I would miss it too. But it's nice to have a break from the danger every once in a while."
"Not like we ever did." She said with her classic tongue in cheek smile.
He smiled back at her. "No, I guess we didn't." He looked at the ground ready to ask the question he has been waiting to ask. "What happened? How did you get here?"
Rose looked anywhere but at him. "I'm not ready. I really don't think this is the best place to talk about this Doctor." She looked him in the eyes. "I'll tell you Doctor, but not yet. Please, I just don't want to talk about it."
He looked at her with sadness, he didn't know what she was hiding. But if she wasn't ready to talk, then he wasn't going to make her. "Ok, tell me when your ready." He said. Him and Rose hugged for the first time since Arizona, and it felt good.
They pulled away after hearing River running backup to the surface, out of breath. "All clear. Just tunnels. Nothing down there I can see." She said climbing out of the tunnels completely.
"I'll go take another look." Rose said, walking towards the tunnels. Ready to head on down.
The Doctor grabbed her arm. "That is stupid dangerous Rose. I just got you back, I don't want to lose you again."
She turned to the Doctor. "I'll be fine Doctor, I can take care of myself. Trust me." He looked at her one more time, and let go of her arm. She headed toward the tunnels, starting to climb down. "Just give me 5 minutes."
He waited until she was out of earshot and turned to Rory. "Rory, would you mind going down with her?"
"Yeah, a bit." Rory said annoyed.
"Then I would appreciate it even more." He said patting him on the back.
Rory turned toward the tunnels ready to head down with her. "Hang on Rose, I'm coming with you."
He headed down the ladder, and turned to Rose, who was holding the torch in front of her down the tunnels. "Ready for a bit of danger?" She asked Rory, turning toward him with a smile.
"Not really, danger wasn't really my thing." He said both of them heading down the tunnels.
"Really? Then why do travel with the Doctor. He's always looking to get himself into a little danger."
"My wife, Amy, she started traveling with him before me. She's known him since she was a kid."
"Let me guess, he was a bit late."
He was surprised she was able to guess that. "Yeah, how did you know."
She stopped and turned to Rory. "The first time I visited home. He told me it's been 12 hours, turned out it's been 12 months. I went up to visit my mum, and the flat was full of missing posters. You should have seen her slap him." She said smiling at the memory.
"Why did you stop traveling with him? It's very obvious you loved it."
Her smile dropped. "I didn't want to. We were separated, and we couldn't get back to each other. It's a very long story. I wouldn't want to bother you with the boring details." She started back into the tunnels. "These tunnels are old, very old. How can they be very old, and nobody notice them?"
They kept walking and ended up in front of a metal door. "It's a maintenance hatch."
"It's locked, why does everything end up being locked."
"Well, what are we going to do?"
"Pick it of course." She said taking out a bobby pin from her head.
"What's through there?"
"I have no idea, but isn't that the fun part?"
"Now your starting to sound like the Doctor." He said looking behind them making sure no one comes around that corner. After a few minutes, she got it open.
"What is this place?" He asked.
As soon as they walked in an alarm went off. "Check and see if anything's coming."
He went back to the door, and saw weird looking creatures. He turned to tell Rose, but he couldn't remember them. "Nothing out there."
Rose took out a device that nobody knew she had. John, the metacrisis, created it. It helped to identify what sort of tech was in front of her. She ran it at the technology in front of them, and got readings she didn't think were possible. "These tunnels, there everywhere. Not just here. There running under the surface of the entire planet. They must have been here for centuries."
All of a sudden the light started to flicker. She looked up to see what was going on, and she saw the aliens from earlier in the bathroom. "Rory!"
