Chapter 15 Bonding Time Take 2

The ride was the most awkward part. They had taken a limo so Akanakanon was pretty much staring at Yugi in silence. They had left the house a few minutes ago without speaking a word to each other.

[Nobody told me how boring this would be,] Kage said. [Do you even know where we are going?]

'No,' Yugi answered.

Yugi opened his mouth to ask Akanakanon where they were going, but Akanakanon beat Yugi to it.

"It's really uncanny how you look very much alike to Yami." Yugi swallowed and nodded his head.

"If you don't mind me asking sir, where are we going?"

"To a park that my wife and my sons would go to when they were little."

[What?! We are going to a stupid boring park?!] Kage screamed in Yugi's head making him wince.

"I know I'm small in stature but I'm not a little kid," Yugi mumbled to himself leaning against the window to watch the outside.

Akanakanon chuckled having heard what Yugi said. "Trust me, you'll like it."

'I seriously doubt that' Yugi thought to himself.

They drove for a few more minutes, Yugi was staring out the window pointily ignoring Akanakanon watching him

[How about this, you knock stepfather out, then we will make a break for it!] Kage suggested.

Yugi mentally rolled his eye. 'No.'

Yugi could feel that Kage was about to say something else but luckily or unluckily Akanakanon spoke first.

"We are here."

Yugi jolted and opened his door before the driver could, his eyes widened once he stepped outside. The park was beautiful. It had quite a bit of trees all in bloom. All kinds of flowers growing from the ground. A walkway for people to get the full experience, and a park where a few kids were playing.

"Beautiful right?" Aknankanon asked. Yugi nodded. "My wife was the one who discovered it for us. Atem and Yami loved this place."

"Aknankanon, why are we here?" Yugi asked.

Aknankanon sighed. "Let's take a walk Yugi."

[That is never a good sign] Kaga said in a sing-song tone.

Yugi smacked the side of his head. "Shut up."

"I beg your pardon?" Aknankanon said sternly.

"No…not…let's just walk." Yugi started walking having Aknankanon follow him with a confused look. They walked in silence for a bit, which was not good for Yugi because Kage decided that it would be great to start singing "London Bridges" in his head, starting to drive Yugi mad.

'I am going to find out how to get rid of you!'

Kage laughed. [Good luck with that!] And continued singing.

Aknankanon sighed and Yugi cringed, knowing it was time for that conversation. "Look Yugi, I know marrying your mom was suddenly and unexpected. How you were not informed. I know you could not be there for the wedding and that also upsets you. But we really are trying to act like a family now because we are one. I love your mother." Yugi rolled his eyes. "And I will have a talk with Atem, but you also need to try, because we may not be blood related, but I want you to look up to me as a father figure." Yugi opened his mouth to interrupt but Aknankanon continued before he could. "You and Yami seem to be starting to get alone which is great. Just forgive your mother Yugi, she did not mean any harm."

Yugi stopped walked and glared at Aknankanon. "This is starting to feel like a lecture."

Aknankanon sheepishly rubbed the back of his neck. "I do not mean for it to sound like a lecture. I just want you to talk to your mother and sort things out, she made a mistake but that do not mean you should hold a grudge."

Yugi gritted his teeth and crossed his arms over his chest. "I'll talk to her and forgive her when she does first."

Aknankanon sighed, "Yugi,"

"Do not Yugi me Aknankanon," Yugi said coldly. Aknankanon felt a shiver run up his spine. "She betrayed me, she got married without tell me. Not once did she send me a letter while I was in Egypt saying she was marrying some rich guy! She told my new brothers about Travis that I was not ready for them to know, her and I both agreed that we would tell people when I was ready for them to know! Yet, she ignores our agreement and goes behind my back to do just that! And now you are here lecturing me about how she did not mean and harm. And that I should forgive and forget. Or how I need to try harder to make this family work. I'll start acting apart of this family WHEN YOU GUYS START TREATING IT LIKE ONE!" Yugi shouted. He panted hard while glaring at Aknankanon.

"You know nothing about me, quit acting like you do." Yugi turned on his heel and started to walk away.

"You are right Yugi," Aknankanon called after him. "I know nothing about you, but you should not close your heart, you should open it to people who only want to love you. My wife was the same way." Yugi stopped walking at that. "When we first met, she hated me. Thought I was some rich playboy. But I thought she was beautiful, funny, generous, kind and her smile always lit up the room. I tried everything to get her to talk to me or at the very least notice me. She completely acted like I did not exist. I was almost ready to give up."

"What did you do?" Yugi asked quietly.

"Well, I finally walked up to her and said 'One date, tonight at seven. If you do not want to be with me after that, I will never bother you again.' After some thought she agreed. We had dinner and went to see a movie. Afterwards I was nervous dropping her off. I kept thinking 'This is it; I'll never be able to talk to her again.' But she surprised me with a kiss on the check and said, 'Same time next week, I'll pick,' smiled and walked inside." Aknankanon walked over to Yugi and put a hand on his shoulder. "After we were married, I asked, 'What made you change your mind about me?' She told me, 'You let me into your heart, and in return I opened my heart up to you.' Yugi it is never a bad thing to let someone in. I know you've been hurt and are afraid that me and my family will do the same, but you will never know unless you try." Aknankanon grabbed both of Yugi's shoulders forcing Yugi to look up.

"I know family fun night was a mess, but maybe we should do individual bonding until everyone is ready, maybe that will help. Sound good?"

Yugi's shoulders sagged. "I will think about it."

Aknankanon smiled, "That is all I ask." They continued there walk in peace and went home. After arriving back at the mansion Yugi immediately went to his room. He had no idea where is mother was or where Atem was. He did not really care to know where Atem was. He knew Aknankanon would go search for his mother and tell her what all went down on their walk. Yugi sighed after he shut his bedroom door, leaning against the door he bagan to think. He did not know what to think part of him still hurt how everyone seemed to think it was his fault that the family was not getting along. And how Aknankanon needed to lecture him about his mother. He did not know if he was ready to talk to his mother, her actions still hurt him. Another part of him just wants to forgive her and have things go back to normal. Well as normal as they are going to get. Yugi sighed again and closed his eyes.

"Well how did it go?" A voice asked. Yugi's eyes snapped open, giving a startled yelp, he jumped and quickly looked towards his bed. Yami was casually sitting there grinning at Yugi. Yugi walked over and joined him on the bed, giving him a good punch to the shoulder.

"Jerk, who said you could be in here without my permission?" Yugi was not really upset that Yami waited for him, in fact he was a little touched.

Yami rubbed his soon to be bruised shoulder. "I did, so how did it go?"

Yugi shrugged. "Alright, he lectured me about not trying hard enough to be apart of this family, told me I should forgive my mother for her actions, and told me a story about your mom and his first date to help me open my heart."

"Ah, the 'open your heart story' I'm sorry. What are you going to do?"

Yugi moved his gaze to the bed. "I don't know yet. But I will figure it out."

Yami bumped his shoulder with his, "You mean, we will figure it. I can't let my little brother do all the hard work alone now can I." Yugi glanced up and grinned. Even though things were tough at the moment, and he had no idea what was going to happen, he was glad Yami and him have become friends. Yugi grinned and shoved him a little.

"You are only older than me by a day, knucklehead."

They laughed and started to turn on the tv to play a few video games.

[Bummer, I was hoping for more drama. Where was the sobbing, the anger and hate, the want for revenge?] Kage commented.

'You, shut up.'

I feel a little rusty with this story, but will hopefully get back in the groove. I had to go back and re-read the story. While doing that I also notice some errors that I want to try in fix. But that probably won't happen for awhile. First, I have no idea when I'll be able to update next. I'm hoping it won't take me years again but life has been busy, so chapter 16 might be awhile.
