Dialogue Prompt: "A true gentleman carries a pocket knife and a handkerchief."
...
Malik walked into the Bakura residence to see Ryou reading a book with a content smile on his face. The white haired male didn't even cast Malik a slight glare for just walking into the apartment as he usually did. The Egyptian raised an eyebrow in curiosity.
"Hey Ryou. What are you reading?" the darker teen asked, sitting near his friend in the massage chair he'd stolen months ago. Malik saw that the cover of the book was completely black and the words were not in Japanese.
"Oh hello Malik," Ryou said in apparent surprise, looking up at his friend. "When did you get here?"
"Is that book in English?" Malik asked curiously. He didn't know an extensive amount of English, but he could make out the word 'true' on the cover.
"Uh yes. My father sent it to me recently," Ryou said, closing the book and holding it to him seemingly to hide the cover.
Malik felt suspicious at his friend's strange behavior. "Oh yeah? What's it called?"
"Umm it's 'The Guide to being a True Gentleman'," Ryou said, looking away from his friend's eyes. "It's an interesting read."
"Hmm," Malik hummed, examining Ryou for a moment and trying to figure out why he was acting so suspiciously. If only he could read English. "What have you read so far?"
"I've only read the first chapter called um 'a true gentleman carries a pocket knife and a handkerchief'," Ryou said quickly. "Yes, that's what it was called, if I recall correctly."
"Well, that's a strange thing to title a chapter about being a gentleman," Malik commented fully suspicious now. "Doesn't that sound strange to you?"
"Well, I uh-" Ryou stammered, having difficulty with his response.
"What are you doing here Cretin?" Bakura's voice drifted into the room using the nickname he'd given to Malik, causing both teens to turn to see Bakura coming towards Malik. Bakura stood in front of the other Egyptian with a glare.
The two of them had a stare down for a moment before Malik broke the silence. "What?"
"Get out of the chair. I want to sit in it."
"What? I'm already sitting in it!"
"Does it look like I care?" Bakura snarled. "Remove yourself from the chair before I remove you myself."
Malik rolled his eyes, but stood anyway. He looked in Ryou's direction to comment on Bakura's obsession with his chair to discover that Ryou was no longer in the room.
"Ryou?"
…
Ryou breathed a sigh of relief as he walked quickly down the sidewalk with the book under his arm, trying to put as much distance between himself and his apartment as possible.
Malik was becoming suspicious too quickly and Ryou almost gave away the fact that his book was actually a book on the occult called 'The True History of the Occult'. The last thing he needed was for Malik to find out that his interest was quickly swirling into an obsession, but he could stop obsessing any time he waited to. It wasn't a problem. At least not for the time being anyway.
