Chapter 5: Breakfast for Lunch

Thanks again for the wonderful reviews everyone! Please continue to let me know what you think! I'm sorry this chapter is a little short, but I'm gearing up for something big ;D enjoy!

Levy walked wearily down the hall to her apartment. Enchanted Books had been very busy overnight. All the usual regulars, as well as several new customers, came in, and Levy hadn't had a moment's rest. She marched into her room and dropped into bed, ignoring the growling of her stomach.

Levy woke up several hours later, starving to death. The small woman sighed and pulled herself out of bed.

"Do I have the energy to make food?" Levy trudged towards the kitchen, but plopped down on the couch instead. "Nope. I don't have the energy to get dressed either… I guess I could order delivery…"

As she thought someone knocked on her door.

"Who's there," Levy called out tiredly.

"It's prince charming," the voice on the other side replied smoothly.

"Hey," another voice interjected, "I'm her prince charming!"

Levy smiled. She walked over to the door and opened it. "Hello Jet, hello Droy."

The two men grinned, "Good morning Levy!"

True, it was actually twelve o'clock, but the boys knew that Levy worked nights, and had probably just gotten out of bed.

"I was just coming to invite you over for pancakes," Jet said with a happy grin.

Droy frowned. "I'm inviting Levy over for pancakes!"

"Well she can't come to both of our apartments," Jet scoffed.

"Boys," Levy smiled, "why don't you both come in and I'll make you some pancakes?"

Jet and Droy grinned, "perfect!"

Levy opened the door wider and stepped back so her visitors could enter. Then she made her way to the kitchen.

When her back was turned Jet and Droy shared a look, then Jet locked the door.

"Miss Levy you should really be more careful. This is a dangerous town you know."

"I'm perfectly capable of taking care of myself," Levy tutted from the kitchen.

At that Jet held in a laugh. If Levy really knew the extent that other people went to protect her, her mind would be blown.

"Do you guys want chocolate chips?"

"Yes, thank you!" Jet and Droy replied in unison. They sat on the couch, skimming through some magazines.

With people to take care of Levy forgot about her weary bones and focused on the meal. Soon the pancakes were ready and the three sat around Levy's kitchen table, talking amiably. Time passes quickly in good company, and before long Jet and Droy excused themselves, filing back to their own apartments, on either side of Levy's.

Alone again Levy reclined on her couch and flipped on the tv. She started to drift off until she heard the name Fairy Tail. Levy sat up, her attention lasered on the tv.

"Today we're showing a special on the notorious gang, Fairy Tail," the anchor said.

"That's right," his companion agreed, "today we're going to see if we can find out what Fairy Tail is really like!"

The two droned on for a while about Fairy Tail's record, the lack of evidence against them, and other common statistics. Then they brought on an expert in gang activity who talked about the general attitude and moral of Fairy Tail. At the end of his speech the expert added, "however, these people are still criminals. Just because they do some valiant things does not make them heroes. They will still do whatever is necessary to keep their ambiguity. Fairy Tail is not something you should look up to or aspire to join."

The news anchor nodded, "now then, we're going to the streets to interview some people and see what they think about Fairy Tail."

Levy watched, enamored by the report.

The screen changed to show a young reporter standing on the street. "Here we go!" She said with a peppy smile. The reporter interviewed several people.

An older woman smiled fondly at the mention of Fairy Tail. "Ah yes, those kids are great. They brought my grandson back to me when he was kidnapped."

A young boy made a gun with his fingers, "Fairy Tail is so cool!"

An elderly man grimaced, "they're hooligans, just like all the rest. If they were really that great, they'd wipe out all the other gangs and let Magnolia have some peace."

Levy was about to turn the tv off when she saw a familiar face.

"Lucy?!"

Levy watched the reporter interview Lucy about Fairy Tail.

"Excuse me miss, what do you think about Fairy Tail?"

Lucy's face darkened at the mention of the gang. "Fairy Tail is an illegal gang. End of story." Lucy's voice was cold and firm.

Then she walked away, leaving the reporter with her mouth hanging.

Levy sighed and clicked off the tv. "Fairy Tail hu? What an enigma."

Levy decided the only way to really learn more about Fairy Tail would be to talk to them herself. For all the research done, nothing solid had ever really been discovered. Levy could understand that. They didn't need their information out in the open, but Levy needed to know, for herself. There had to be some way to contact them. Fairy Tail had to recruit new members somehow. Not that Levy wanted to join them, she wasn't exactly cut out for fighting, but she hoped to at least talk to them.

Levy knew she couldn't ask Lucy about it. Any mention of Fairy Tail seemed to make Lucy shut down. Maybe Jet or Droy… but they don't seem like the types to know about that stuff.

Levy sighed.

'Well, it is a beautiful night,' Levy thought. Maybe if she walked to work she would run across someone. Even if she didn't maybe that Danny guy would show up again. He may not be the friendliest person, but he might be able to put Levy in contact with Fairy Tail.

Levy marched out the door, determine to get some results. She rode down the elevator and headed for the front door. Levy froze in her tracks when she saw Lucy's car pull up.

"Shoot!" she muttered.

Not ready to give up, Levy ducked behind a column. She waited patiently as Lucy walked inside and towards the elevator. Levy held her breath, hoping that Lucy wouldn't notice her.

"What are you doing?"

Levy jumped and whipped around. Lucy stood behind her, an unamused expression on her face.

"Er- hiding?"

"I can see that," Lucy replied flatly. "Why?"

"I- hahah, I wanted to see if you could find me!"

"Behind that column? I'd have to be blind not to," Lucy sighed exasperatedly. "Come on, let's get to work."

Levy followed her friend, feeling defeated, but also slightly guilty. As much as she enjoys the night, and as much as she wants to know about Fairy Tail, tricking her best friend is not right. Levy sighed heavily and resolved not to try sneaking out again. There must be another way to find out more about Fairy Tail.
