Charlie's Purple Violet

Ten years after the factory tour, in a reality in which the tour was just a tour, and Charlie didn't become the heir...

Charlie was working in a bookshop in the center of town, and was setting the new additions on the shelves when a piercingly familiar face walked into his shop.

Violet walked into the shop with a huge scarf wrapped around her face to conceal the fact that she was blaringly purple.

Charlie smiled, and asked her softly from behind the shelve he had been stocking, "Ms. Beauregard, what are you doing back in town?"

Violet jumped, and said, "Oh, Charlie, how did you recognize me?"

He shuffled his feet, and said with a small laugh, "Well, Violet, it's kind of obvious."

Violet's face turned a deeper shade of purple, and she glared at him.

She gathered her things, and said with venom in her voice, "Typical men, being insensitive. I guess I'll just leave, then."

Charlie back-pedaled, put down his books, and said, "No, Violet, I'm sorry, I didn't mean it like that! Come back, I'm really sorry!"

Violet paused, then said in a more small, vulnerable voice, "Charlie, I have been ridiculed by everyone I've met after that horrible tour, I got kicked out of every team that I worked so hard to get into, my own mother rejected me, I don't need you doing it too."

Charlie frowned, and said, "Violet, I'm so sorry, you're beautiful just like you are, you'd never need to change the way you are to be perfect-"

He caught himself pouring out his feelings, and clapped his hands over his mouth, but it was too late.

Violet had heard everything.

She turned around to face him, wiping one stray strand of purple hair out of her face, and said, "You really think that? You really think that about me?"

Charlie found himself nodding.

Violet smiled, exposing her purple-tinted teeth, and said, "Charlie, that's the sweetest thing anyone's ever said to me."

He smiled back, and said, "You want to have coffee later?"

She kissed him on the cheek, and said, "Sure, Mr. Bucket."
