Aria: NO this is a chapter I've been waiting to since bringing your wife into this for like, the longest time!

Hinata: Eek! W-why am I g-glowing!?

Chapter 16
A Mother's Instinct!?
The Egg Hatches!

It had been a couple weeks since Eterna City by now. Naruto was riding in the basket with Pikachu of the strange contraption they had told him and Hinata was called a bike. Hinata was clinging on to Brock's shoulder, eyeing the egg in the basket with fondness. While Piplup was in the basket on Dawn's bike. Naruto and Hinata payed no heed to their talking trainers. They were on their way to Dawn's next contest over in Hearthorme City. But Dawn had to remind Ash about what Pikachu did to her bike before Naruto had hatched. Making poor Pikachu sweatdrop in embarrassment before turning his attention to the others.

"When do you think the egg will hatch?"piped up Pikachu in curiosity.

"It'll h-hatch when the l-little one is ready to."yipped Hinata as she floated over and snuggled up to the egg in the basket, much to the amusement of the trainers.

"Brock your Whispup been rather protective of that egg."noted Ash.

"Yeah it's almost like she thinks the egg is her's."giggled Dawn.

"Don't be so surprised, Whispup is a female. She has the same motherly instincts as a lot of females do."said Brock, looking at his shiny Whispup fondly as she nuzzled the egg case, purring loudly.

The gang looked up at spotting the weather had taken a nasty foreboding turn for the worst. A thunder storm was defiantly coming if the flashes of lightning and claps of thunder were anything to go by.

"Looks like it's gonna rain."noted Ash.

"Yep."agreed Naruto and Pikachu.

Hinata's ears perked at noticing a very distinct glow coming from the egg. Causing her to try and get Brock's attention. "What's the matter Whispup? Hm!?" Success Brock had noticed as did Dawn and Ash. "Woah, it's starting to glow!"

"That means the egg is about to hatch!"Ash pointed out quickly as Hinata pawed at the case anxiously.

"Oh no, what're we gonna do!?"yelped Dawn in worry.

"I'm sure there's a pokemon center up ahead so let's go for it."Brock swiftly picked up the pace with the others close behind.

It didn't take long for them to find a run down pokemon center that had clearly seen better days. Swiftly they pulled over, Hinata fazed the egg out of the case and clutched it protectively in her warm, fluffy tails to carry like a basket. They tried to get her to give it back to Brock, but the normally timid ghost type snarled a warning at Dawn and Ash. Naruto simply chuckled as he floated near by. Hinata had always been like this; the silent but protective and deadly type.

"Hello there?"called Ash.

"Nurse Joy?"yelled Brock.

Nothing.

Naruto though could feel at least two auras: a human and a pokemon. This urged him to land and start looking around on his paws. Ears perked and nose scenting the air. "A Chansey is here."he thought.

"Hello, Chansey are you here?"called out Naruto loudly along with Ash's call for help.

"Anybody there?"echoed Pikachu.

Sure enough from down the hall a Chansey with a mop and bucket came out into the run down lobby. "Who's there?"

"Excuse me, we have a pokemon egg ready to hatch."Ash pointed to the egg in cradled in Hinata's tails.

"So is Nurse Joy around?"asked Dawn.

Chansey gave a sigh and set the supplies aside. She then lead the group to the back where Nurse Joy stood in front of a tree. Both Hinata and Naruto's orbs glowed a rather depressing shade of blue while yet again Brock went "Girl crazy" mode as Naruto had labeled it. Hinata looked over in concern. It was clear this Joy was very depressed and feeling defeated. But right on cue Croagunk let himself out and was prepared to Poison Jab his trainer to drag him away.

Nurse Joy though just sighed sadly.

"Nurse Joy?"asked Brock in concern as the others came over.

"My name's Ash Ketchum and I'm from Pallet Town."introduced Ash.

"I'm Pikachu."greeted the electric mouse pokemon.

"I'm Naruto."barked the spirit fox pokemon, wagging his tails.

"H-Hello, I'm H-Hinata."barked the shiny whispup as she floated closer to Joy.

"And I'm Dawn from Twinleaf Town."grinned Dawn kindly.

"This pokemon center is my fault...it's awful! The place the place has become a complete disaster and it's all my fault!"Joy said, clearly upset and distressed.

"Huh?"

"Huh?"

"You saw what a total mess it is. It's been that way since the Cycling Road was built."sobbed Joy.

Everyone then realized why...with the road that was built all the traveling trainers, breeders, and coordinators just passed this little pokemon center by without a second thought. IT broke Naruto and Hinata's hearts hearing this. No patients meant no funds to keep this clinic maintained properly by the region's medical board. But it seemed Nurse Joy was blaming herself for the current state of affairs by her words.

It only made Hinata dig in deep for her resolve and floated over to a confused and surprised Joy showing her the egg in her tails, "Please we need your help, this little one needs your help!"

Brock instantly knew his partner's intentions, "Nurse Joy we need you. Won't you please take care of our egg? A new life, a new pokemon. Please help us bring it into the world."

Nurse Joy looked at it in stunned aw, unsure what to say by the plea of the trainer and his Whispup. "But, I'm just no good!"

"No, don't say that! Don't give up!"barked Hinata.

"Don't say that, won't you help us?"encourage Brock as Hinata offered up the egg in her tails.

"You can do this, believe it."urged Naruto eagerly.

"You can do it!"agreed Pikachu.

Joy looked at the group and then the egg, still not completely confident in her skills. But some resolve had returned clear as day in her eyes as she took the egg from the shiny female whispup. The egg then started shiny like a beating heart in that instant. "Huh? This egg is gonna hatch any minute!"

Everyone let out a frantic shriek as it started to rain. The only one ot in a panic was Croagunk as they raced inside.

Nurse Joy had waited no time getting the egg set up to a monitor and set on a table. Joy though was turning frantic and was in a panic. Hinata hadn't left the egg's side as she sat crouched on the table with tails wrapped around it like a mother hen.

"Get a hold of yourself!"urged Chansey and Naruto, smacking her.

"'Nurse Joy get a hold of yourself!', at least that's what I think Whispup and Chansey are trying to say."grinned Brock.

"Right, there's only one nurse in charge of this pokemon center and that's me!"Joy once more had a fire in her eyes.

"Let's help her out. There's gotta be something we can do!"suggested Dawn.

"We're gonna need a lot of clean towels and warm water too."informed Brock.

"Right, we'll handle the boiling water Brock!"said Ash.

"Yeah, we got this!"said Pikachu.

"Yeah believe it!"agreed Naruto eagerly.

Dawn and Ash with Pikachu and Naruto rushed off to get the supplies. Dawn had checked one of the storage areas, unaware Team Rocket was hiding away there. Thankfully for the trio Dawn hadn't spotted or noticed and just continued on her search for towels. IT brought back memories of when Ash's Whispup had first hatched back at Prof. Rowen's lab. With some help from Naruto's fire it took no time at all to get a bowl of hot water ready.

Back with the egg everything was looking good so far which pleased Hinata. The tiny life inside the pink shell was healthy and any minute would hatch into this world. It only made her purr louder as Dawn came in with the towels.

"Is this enough?"asked Dawn.

"Great, that's plenty."thanked Brock.

"Plenty of hot water too."grinned Ash as he stirred the water as his own whispup finished pouring it into the bowl.

"Yep, nice and warm."agreed Pikachu and Naruto.

"That's g-great guys."Hinata's ears perked at feeling a shaking from the egg as the light got brighter. It was hatching!

Quickly their attention turned to the egg with awe as Hinata moved away a bit. The glow got really bright and cracking could be heard. It wasn't long before a small roly poly pink pokemon hatched out. It reminded them a lot of Chansey, only tinier and cuter. Hinata was tickled pink, practically in happy tears as she wagged her tails at the newly hatched normal type that blinked before greeting them happily.

"Welcome little one."purred Hinata, nuzzling Happiny, earning a giggle.

Happiny tried to get up only to fall over on her back but Hinata tenderly used her tail to lift Happiny up and set her back on her feet. "Careful now."she cooed.

Nurse Joy gently picked it up into her arms, "It's a beautiful Happiny, congratulations." she then handed it to Brock as Hinata floated over to perch on his shoulder.

"Oh it's so cute!"squeaked Dawn in delight.

"Now let's check it out, shall we?"Ash pulled out his pokedex as Naruto and Pikachu looked at the dex.

Happiny, the Playhouse Pokemon
It loves round white things. It carries a round stone in its pouch that looks like an Egg, and gives it to people that it likes.

"Ok, it's time for your first bath."Brock took Happiny over to the bowl of warm water and placed the Happiny in it.

Hinata though eagerly helped out in Happiny's bath, letting the little one play with her tail. "That's right such a good little Happiny."she purred as she tickled the playhouse pokemon.

"Looks like you're ticklish huh?"said Brock in amusement, "Lets get you all dried up."

With those words Hinata gently picked up Happiny and set her down on the towels so Brock could dry her off. Brock happily thanked Nurse Joy for her help bringing Happiny into this world. Which everyone, particularly Hinata agreed with. Hinata was proving to be even more protective now that Happiny hatched. Which was probably why she felt the ill intent before even Naruto, causing her to plop Happiny onto her back. Which Happiny thought was nothing but good fun from her motherly figure. First things, first they had to find a round stone for little Happiny and get some food in her belly.

Happiny happily devoured the pokemon food Brock fed her that Nurse Joy made but Naruto and Hinata quickly felt the distress from the baby pokemon. Causing Hinata to try and comfort the crying pokemon. "There, there."soothed Hinata.

"Happiny what's wrong?"asked Ash.

"Are you ok Happiny?"asked Pikachu in worry.

"Why is she crying? Didn't Happiny like the food?"asked Naruto in equal confusion and concern.

"Naruto-kun, I-I think she want something."pointed out Hinata as she continued to comfort the distressed hatchling.

"I think Happiny wants a stone."noted Brock, voicing Hinata's theory.

"Wait a second,"Dawn quickly pulled up Happiny in her dex and showed it."You mean like this?"

"Happiny just love to put small, round white stones into their pockets. People say it's because they want to imitate Chansey."stated Joy.

"I'll go find a nice stone for yeah, so stay here with Nurse Joy."But Hinata and Happiny would have none of that.

"Don't go daddy!"wailed Happiny.

"You aren't going anywhere."hissed Hinata, smacking Brock with her tails.

"Ah! Uh oh, ouch!"yelped Brock.

"Looks like Whispup doesn't want you to leave Happiny."chuckled Dawn.

"And Neither does Happiny. Don't worry you stay, we'll go find some stones."said Ash before leaving with Dawn, Pikachu, and Naruto.

Outside Hinata happily played with Happiny while they waited with Brock for the others to come back with some white stones.

"Hey we're back!"

"You won't believe just how much we manage to find!"

Hinata flew up to perch on Brock's shoulder as he dug through and inspected each one. Eventually they found the perfect one. Not too big or sharp or jagged and not to small. It was just right. And Brock was explaining this as he smoothed it out and molded out any imperfections, "You see it can be too big and heavy and it can't be too jagged. That is so it won't cause any discomfort in Happiny's pouch."

"That sure is a lot to keep in mind when picking out a little rock."observed Dawn.

"No you think!"barked Naruto in amusement.

Hinata and Pikachu played happily with the newest member of their family during this time in an effort to keep little Happiny busy. But just as Brock had finished and was about to give the stone to her a mechanical claw came out of nowhere. In fury Hinata raced over and ended up snagged with Happiny by Team Rocket. This only made the female fox spirit even more furious as she saw and felt the distress of the baby pokemon. Sending those mother instincts into overdrive as she struggled and snarled angrily at the thieves as they were taken away.

"I swear you harm one hair on Happiny's head you'll regret it!"snarled Hinata from her cage.

Happiny was also clearly NOT impressed by these strangers that had taken her away from her, "daddy" just as she was about to get her stone too. Not only that but they had snagged her, "mommy" as well. And had taken them away from the rest of the family.

"Shut it you whispy ghost type."meowed Meowth.

"Make me!"growled Hinata.

"Happiny! Whispup!"

Hinata's ears perked; that was Brock's voice. It brought some hope and relief to her as that meant their trainer was down below with the others persuing them.

"Daddy! We're up here!"cried Happiny.

"Pipe down you flabbery flaber ball!"snapped Meowth, succeeding in pissing off Happiny and Hinata.

Hinata only started to grow angrier and angrier, causing her lavender eyes to turn red the more those foolish Team Rocket idiots handled and talked to Happiny. Causing her orbs to turn red and blue in a whirlpool like fashion. Happiny though got tossed up into the air by Jessie, making Hinata's blood boil over in fright and fury and panic. But that only got worse when they tried to get the playhouse pokemon down, resulting in the ballon being ripped and all of them crashing to the ground.

Hinata's tolerance level for Team Rocket was zero, actually it was going below zero at this point at seeing them with Happiny as she paced in her cage that kept her from fazing out. It was beyond frustrating. But her sensitive ears made her look up to see a very familiar Staravia. That meant Ash must have sent her out to find them. IT meant they need to be patient just a bit longer. Hinatalooked over, her eyes still red as she snickered quietly at their pathetic attempts to give Happiny a stone.

But Happiny want the pretty white one Brock had carved for her, not this junk. Which was starting to really irritate Jessie. Happiny even stuck out her tongue at the final one. Hinata found that hilarious. "Try all you want, Happiny won't accept you."barked Hinata with a sly grin.

But seeing Jessie start to let her infamous temper loose that was the straw that broke the numel's back! It caused her to vicious attack and bite at the cage just as Ash and co arrived. But seeing Brock and Sudowoodo get knocked back in the fight that started by Seviper and Happiny's distress...that did it. Hinata let out a furious cry causing her body to get swallowed in a bright light that shattered cage as she grew in size. This caught everyone's attention for it mention only one thing: Brock's Whispup was evolving!

Hinata's body grew more lithe, her ears grew shorter, her tails grew longer and multiplied into a total of nine flowing tails and a flowing nebula-like mane from her head. When the light vanished there stood a ninetales almost looking pokemon very clear differences. Gone were the jewels in the tails, replaced with two large glistening gold orbs floating on each side of her shoulders. Nebula-like fiery mane flowed like an aurora from on top of her head from a black crest on the forehead. Golden, pupiless eyes framed in black markings akin to a glass chandelier graced each side of her face. Black tails were long and flowing with more of that nebula-like fire on the ends, almost like a Charizard. Her body that weren't covered in black was covered in sleek, thick white fur that shimmered like glass. It gave her a otherworldly kind of beauty almost akin to a Milotic.

"Phantsune!"was what the humans heard.

"Brock, Whispup evolved!"called Dawn.

"Woah sweet Hinata evolved!"barked Naruto in delight.

Hinata disapeared just as fast and grabbed Happiny and knocked out Meowth, Cacnea, and Wobbeffet easily with what seemed to be a combo of teleport and Spectral Thief. Not many had seen but Naruto had noticed Hinata vanish into the shadows like the ninja she once was. Leaped out of Meowth's shadow and had attacked with ease and grabbed Happiny. Happiiny was in awe at the sight as they easily mowed right through Seviper. The others watched stunned as Hinata set Happiny down in Brock's arms. The vulpine-like pokemon now easily stood as big as an Arcenine. "Stay here little one."yipped Hinata, nuzzling the babby pokemon.

"Ok mommy."giggled Happiny.

Hinata turned her attention to Team Rocket as they tried to rant and attack. But she was not gonna have any of that. One shot from a Shadow Ball sent them flying. Brock finally gave Happiny her stone and the gang laughed as they watched just how strong the little Happiny was as it playfully tossed Brock into the air. Hinata laughed the hardest oddly enough as did Naruto. Later that day Brock sent their findings of this new discovery of the evolution of Whispup. It was quickly dubbed Phantsune by Rowan. But from further findings Rowan thinks male and female Whispup evolve differently.

Only time would tell...
