Silence-it was both a comfort and a curse for Yugi Muto as she found herself opening her eyes just as the sun started to rise. Her chest lifting and falling down unevenly as another horrible dream captivated her mind.
No one thankfully was able to see or hear her mental panic, so she lays there, taking claim of reality and relief at the fact that she was alive and safe. These nightmares were growing all the more frequent lately-she was so tired.
However instead of trying to fall back into an uneasy rest she turns to her side. Blinking her sore eyes up she glanced at the clock resting on her bedside. Her face scrunches up in distastes as she finds it to be early...way too early.
"Todays the day." Five forty-two in the morning or not she decides to get up, stretching her arms with a sigh. Rubbing the sleep crusties out of her eyes she rises, sloppily maneuvering her feet around the various packed boxes laid about on the floor. Most of her things were sealed away. Ready for the move.
All that needed to be taken care of was her bed-which was fine since it was the last day she was staying at Valons. Swiftly she tip-toed to the bathroom and started the shower-grateful for the peace and steam.
It made her feel like she had a little extra privacy to herself. Regardless of whether it was true or not it allowed her to release her tears and breathe, taking joy of the hot water sprinkling down on her aches and pains.
She stayed there, soaking up as much warmth as she could while scrubbing herself clean. Once in awhile she'll pause to glance at her hands- bruises, burns, cuts-anything and everything that could be there was there. Even blood.
And it left her nauseous as memories resurfaced. She wasn't ok. A knock-two and three times echoed through the room. "Yugi. You ok in there?" It was Mai. No doubt she was unable to really sleep either. It's been hard. On all of them.
"Yeah. I'm just about done." Personally she really wasn't, but she couldn't stay there all day. There was a place she needed to be. "Ok. See you soon?" There was a slight shrill to her cousin's tone.
A lacking of confidence unfitting of the beloved Valentina. "Uh huh. I'll meet you and Val in the kitchen." Back when she was kidnapped Mai alongside Valon had received a horrendous phone call from Ishizu.
Instead of joining the others to bash Yami's parents into the ground while trying to rescue the sixteen year old Ishizu had convinced them to stay at the hospital with her, Atem, Mana and Yusei. Catching them up and preventing the blond model from having a heart attack from the stress.
Even though Yugi had been brought back safe and sound that unease-fear and anxiety remained. Clinging like the parasite it was for as long as possible. It would take a long time for all of them to recover, but Yugi had hope.
It was really all she could do to prevent an eternal cycle of breakdowns. She's seen enough to last a lifetime. Footsteps fade away as Yugi hops out of the tub. Allowing the drain to steal away all the dirty water and soap extracts. Popping her shoulders Yugi marches onwards, soft cotton wrapped around her frame.
"Hey." His voice was soft-though she still flinched slightly due to being startled. "What's up Valon?" Out of everyone was he was behaving the most normal out of everyone else. His efforts to be there for the girls as he gives her a small embarrassed smile, brightened her mood a bit.
Not a lot-but enough to uplift her thoughts. "Mai wanted me to give you this-said she handpicked it especially for you since you said you were going." It was a beautiful dress that left the girl momentarily speechless.
Black, strapless corset top with a flowy ombra black and white skirt drifting all the way down to her feet Truly it was beautiful. "Thank you." She received another smile. "Anytime." He walks away, letting her catch a special ring glint into the light.
Smiling slightly she makes her way into her room, shutting the door. You're ok. You're fine. They're fine." Closing her eyes she places a hand to her chest to steady her breathes. These days she had to remind herself constantly, she wasn't always successful. But she was doing her best.
Quickly she dried her body before getting dressed. Of course it fit perfectly-Mai would've never allowed anything but that, though she had really outdone herself this time. It was so soft and comfortable. "Wow." For the first time in a long while Yugi felt beautiful wearing it.
Momentarily forgetting about the dark circles and the bandages she had to rewrap around the various parts of her body. Twirling she let out a little giggle. Feeling like a little kid and just letting the skirt fly slightly away from her legs.
She returned in a snap, but she kept the smile as she placed some simple black flip flops and went downstairs to meet her cousin and her cousin's fiance. Another small round of greetings were given as they ate a light breakfast. Conversations were a bit lacking-though Yugi could see and understand why.
The last couple months have not been kind. "You know you don't have to go and do this right? You can stay here and relax a bit longer. I know you're moving in a couple days but..." Suddenly Mai decided to break the ice. They had been over this before, multiple times.
But instead of being annoyed or frustrated-Yugi smiled at her cousin grabbing her free hand. Feeling nothing but grateful for her love and concern. That first night they were reunited was spent talking and releasing all the thoughts and fears each of them had.
Their bond growing stronger then ever. And since their grandfather's death they were able to understand one other. There was no longer any reason to drift away or hide away their feelings.
"I'll be ok. I-this is the first step for me to get back out there. I need to go, plus everyone is waiting for me. But I'll have my cell-should I need to leave." It appeased Mai, as it had done every time before. And Valon couldn't help but wrap an arm around his lover.
Giving her a soft squeeze to show his support. "Don't forget Yugi. I'll be there in an instant should you need us. She was grateful of the support. "I'll make sure I take all the boxes as well as your mattress while you're out too to save you the trouble of transporting it later. "
Other then Mai's concerns and frets the couple allowed her to make her decisions in what she wanted to do in life. As much as they hated it-they honored her desire to stay in Japan- with Kaiba's help Yugi rebuilt her grandfather's game shop.
Just as much as she honored their wish to get married and move to America. Mai loved Japan-but to her it wasn't home, and she was missing it terribly. Especially with all the sad incidences taking place.
What surprised all of them though was Valon's proposal and stating he would go anywhere she wanted to. Granted it wasn't the most romantic of moments but Mai said yes regardless.
"I can do my job wherever. It'll be another adventure...just like old times."
Leaving behind his home, friends, and family just to be with her. It was like a dream come true. "So Mai have you decided what kind of dress you're going to wear?" Mai's eyes twinkled at the question.
"No but I've been looking at Tons of pictures~" It was the perfect question to ask the infamous Valentina, and Valon could only smile as his fiancee' went on and on explaining the various styles of wedding dresses to her cousin.
It made the atmosphere so much lighter. However all things came to an end when Yugi's phone began to ring. "I gotta go." It was time. "Have a good time sweetie. Love you."
Placing a kiss on her cousin's cheek Yugi leaves, inhaling the crisp fall air. The trees were already starting to bloom with the colors of autumn, a time that Yugi remembered and enjoyed.
It was around this time Yugi had met Yami-and her life took a wild roller coaster that never seemed to end. It was hard to think sometimes as she walked to her destination. These days she found it hard finding a true moment of inner peace.
All the memories-good and bad liked to swim about-blurring together like a chalked cement being washed by rainfall. "Hey there she is! Yugi you ready?" Blinking she found her sense of reality returning, there were all her friends from class. Minus one.
"As ready as I could ever be. I'm not really sure what i'm doing though." Yugi could only shrug as Joey wrapped an arm around her shoulders. Giving a light squeeze-he would've done harder like he usually does, however he knew she was still recovering.
Luckily Ishizu had given the girl her permission to be up and about. So long as she took it easy. "You'll do great~" Tea offered her friend a warm smile, it was getting bigger by the day and gave her friend the confidence she needed. "Thanks guys."
Tristan gave her a wink and a thumbs up. "We got your back." Together the group walk on-it was a beautiful day. The air was crisp but not chilly, the sun was shining though not blazing.
"Ah-there you are Sempai!" Some things despite it all never seem to change as Jaden immediately grabbed Syrus-keeping the short teen from advancing upon Yugi. Causing a few chuckles to go around. "Easy there Sy. Take a breath." He does as ordered, breathing in and out.
Calming down substantially for a few minutes before holding out his hands to his upperclasswoman. "Th-this is for you. I hope you make a swift recovery!" Touched Yugi thanks him for his thoughtfulness, gingerly taking the small bouquet of flowers.
Only to then shake her head as Syrus faints from nerves. "He ok Jaden?" Her reply comes in a simple thumbs up, brightening up her mood even more. It felt like a good day.
All sorts of people were around her, fortunately there was no sense of claustrophobia or discomfort. She was even able to greet the various faces without her insecurities or injuries being addressed. Time was flying by.
"Ok everyone-places!" With the clapping of hands everyone moved into position. Just as rehearsed. Yugi couldn't help but blush as she settled herself into position. Right behind the bride.
"Miss. Grace you look beautiful!" It was an incredible sight to behold as she looked up at her teacher in admiration. "Thank you-for both your compliment as well as agreeing to be my ring bearer. It truly means a lot to me that you're doing this." Cecilia couldn't help the smiles and giddiness.
She didn't know the details-but she found herself hearing from Yugi's cousin of the chaotic events the family went through. On top of Yugi going to the hospital once more. It was heartbreaking news-and she had honestly found herself shocked when her student agreed to the offer-despite the pain.
Honestly many didn't have high hopes of the young Muto on recovering in time for the ceremony. Those who did were her friends and family. Who knew that when she put her mind to something-it would get done. And it did-as she was here, standing.
"The musics playing." The pair of women waited for their cue. They had done this multiple times over the last two weeks. Where to walk, what to do, what to say. Despite the bundle of nerves they each shared, Miss. Grace was excited-ready to get married to the man of her world.
And Yugi was honored to help make it happening. "The time has come. Let's go Yugi." Nodding to her professor she places the gold rings gently on a beautiful crimson pillow.
Mr. Pegasus had gone all out on making this wedding perfect. Professional chefs making the delicious meals. Music handmade for the sake of the ceremony played softly in the background.
Though the decor and place where it all took place was still simple and elegant to match Miss. Graces's taste. A few bouquets tied with purple ribbons in Domino City Park. As promised, all of their classes had been invited and some were even granted roles in the ceremony.
Dr. Crowler had aided the pair through the entire process. At this point taking command much like he did with the school play. "May the bride and ring bearer step forth!"
Having been a good friend with them throughout the years, he felt that it had been long enough that they avoided the topic of getting together. It had only felt natural that he felt pleased with their decision of marriage and he be the one to plan it. He WAS the best man after all.
He stood off to the side, wearing the best suit he could find he watched in anticipation as the marriage officiant reached the climax. "Now Maximillian Pegasus...do you take Cecilia Grace to be your lawfully wedded wife?" It was a tear jerking moment for several of the guests present.
"I do." Many of the female students especially holding on to one another recording the loving scene that was taking place through their phones. "Cecilia-do you take Maximillian Pegasus to be your lawfully wedded husband?"
Meanwhile many of the boys tried not to show emotion or react to the rather touching scene. "I do~" Less they lose any masculine pride they have. Although some of them were crying manly tears at the fact that one of the most attractive single teachers at school was at last taken.
A lot of emotions were being expressed. "Then I pronounce you Man and Wife. You may now kiss the bride~" Cheers erupted from all sides as the happy couple embrace with a loving kiss.
Needing no further prompting to end this long awaited event. The lovely flowers in Mrs. Pegasus's grasp is released into the air-flying high in into the sky. Cheers turned into Shrieks as several of the female students reached for the beloved bouquet.
In slow motion it descends back down due to gravity. Falling into a young mans' hand. He was slumped slightly-using his other arm to hold onto his elder sibling. Wearing a dress shirt minus the tie and black skinny jeans. She could only shake her head at his smug grin, as if he planned that.
She was surprised to find them here today-as she wasn't the only one on serious rest and recover status. However...she was glad to see him nonetheless. Her stupid fierce knight.
...
It had turned out Yugi the whole time had been taking advantage of her height and the shadows to hide up above one of the extravagant floral trees planted by the storage warehouses.
No one bothered looking up, and even if they did it would be hard for them to find her as the various flowers hid her from view. For once she was able to fully take advantage of her tiny frame.
From there she was able to watch the various Shade staff run about like maniacs, on top of eavesdropping on their conversations. The relief she felt after hearing Yami and her friends coming to rescue her was indescribable.
However that relief found itself dropping dead when she witnessed Yami being captured. She heard every word, saw every action. Though sirens were being heard and the police seemed to be coming it felt as though they were taking their sweet time as Panik tried to burn him alive.
Left him for dead. Smoke and fire was everywhere, engulfing the entire building. "Fire! Oh god-the building is on fire!" At this point no one cared about recapturing her.
"Get the hoses and sprinkler systems set up!" She gasped as she dropped down, her feet stinging from the height-just as a crowd began to gather from the explosion.
She pushed and struggled breaking through. Dosing herself with the hose before running right in. "Yami!" He was collapsed onto the floor, unconscious. For a moment her heart stopped as she reached him.
"No Yami! Please!" Chilled hands reached and prodded his face. She prayed to whatever deity that would listen, she didn't care what happened to her. So long as he lived. "Stay with me!"
Tears fell down her face when Yami opened his eyes, giving her a small smile. "Yugi?" His hand by habit reached up to touch her face. Then his eyes snapped open fully as the current dangerous situation he was in came back in full force. "Oh my Ra Yugi! You shouldn't-"
She shhed him, pulling his arm over her shoulder. "Come on-we can't stay here." He had loads of questions, but held his tongue and breath as she got them off the ground. With a pained grunt she maneuvered them towards the exit.
Much stronger than he gave her credit for-forcing him to lean against her. Sirens were blaring over the roar of the flames at this point. Yami was unsure of how long he had been there.
But with the pain at this point becoming numb and his senses starting to fail he could assume it had been quite a while. Yugi gasped as a beam fell onto the ground in front of them. "No!" She was starting to panic now-it would only be a matter of time before the building collapsed.
As carefully as she could, she turned them to the side. Going around the heavy wood. She had to get them out. "Yugi..." Sweat and ash covered her face as she readjusted their positions.
At this point she took the majority of his weight, nearly dragging him. "Ack." Together they fell, toppling over charred debris. "Get out of here Yugi." Yugi began coughing as she all but crawled them to the exit. "No-I won't! We're getting out of here together!"
There was no way she could leave him. "Don't leave me yet Yami. We-we're almost there!" He desperately wanted to obey her plea but it was so hard. His eyes against his will began to close as shouting rang just a few feet away.
"Get your asses over here now! There's people in there. Hang on-helps on the way!"
...
It was a miracle that they made it out with their lives. Immediately they were brought to the hospital where Ishizu's group and the police were waiting for them. The price of surviving had its cost-though they were grateful nonetheless.
Yami was very weak due to an injury from the explosion. As he was engulfed in flames, shards of metal embedded into his side. Both he and Yugi had smoke infest their lungs as well as had first and second degree burns all over their bodies.
Again Yami had received the worst of it-as he was in the building when the fire started. He had lost a lot of blood to the point where he needed a blood transfusion, and due to that was under heavy duty bed rest.
So to see him here, limping, it was a surprise, though she wasn't sure if she was glad for it or not. "For you miss~." There he was, sneaking up behind her as if he wasn't terribly injured with their teachers' flowers in his grasp.
"You know I was coming over later right?" He gave a soft kiss to her forehead as she took the blooms. "I know-but I couldn't wait to see you. Plus I wanted to give Miss Gr-Mrs. Pegasus my regards. Ishizu just gave me the go ahead to come."
She had figured as much. Otherwise Atem would've never let him leave the house. With a sigh Yugi allowed Yami to pull her to his chest. He was careful, for both of their sakes.
For a moment the bustling people surrounding them disappeared-giving them a bit of privacy. "So I talked to my brother." She gave a small hum as she closed her eyes. Taking in the familiar thump of his heart.
"What'd he say?" Despite being a man put on a multi-month bed rest Yami was quite busy as he, Atem and Kaiba went against their parents for Kidnapping Yugi and hiring professional mercenaries.
Several people had been arrested(Panik and Alister thankfully being among those) and testified-burying the Shade parents twenty feet under the bus for all the crimes they've committed behind the scenes.
But that really wasn't the battle that Yami was struggling with most. As things stood the case was set in stone-the only thing that has yet to be decided is the punishment. It was an important battle but that wasn't the biggest hurdle he had been facing.
"He said yes." It was him moving in with Yugi at the game shop. "Really?" The surprised expression on her face caused a small chuckle. "Reluctantly and with him checking on us practically every day-but yes."
As of late-Atem for the right reasons has been an over protective brother hen. It seemed his brother and Yugi couldn't stay away from trouble, and felt they were too young to try and make it out on their own.
They were only sixteen. However, Yami wore him down. As Yami countered every single argument Atem had. He would be working for Kaiba as well as help Yugi with the game shop. Promising to continue his schoolwork online.
But it was his final statement that brought forth victory. "I want to live my life Atem. For so long you and I have been under our parents leash. You and I now get to live our lives-and you need to enjoy life not worrying about me. I'm not a little kid anymore."
That last statement held more meaning then anyone could ever understand-for both Yami and his girlfriend. Everyone had found themselves struggling, going through their personal demons and insecurities.
"I know Bakura, Joey, Duke, Marik and Jaden plan on being constant customers once the shop gets running." Yami and his family, Yugi and the loss of her loved ones. In one year though things changed for the better they face constant struggles.
They find light in the dark tunnel, with each other."No doubt Kaiba will be stopping by as well. If nothing else then to duel you. Miss Queen of Games."There was a lot of guilt from this last incident, as well as a lot of talking. Despite it all they were still together, hand in hand.
"All else fails we would profit from those six alone with how dedicated they are to duel monsters. And oh stop! I'm not that good." Still healing from the incident yet they were standing tall.
Surrounded by loved ones who were willing to risk it all for them. They couldn't ask for anything else. "Yo Yami-when did you get here?" Not too far from all of the guests stood two lone figures. "See Grandpa~ I told you things would work out!"
Ryou stood nearby alongside Grandpa Muto, beaming with pride as Joey leaps for Yami and Yugi."I know. Can't help an old man from worrying though. Still...it's all up to them now." The old deceased man crossed his arms with a soft smile and tears began to fall.
He couldn't stop the sniffles. His little granddaughter had a bright future ahead of her bringing him so much joy and relief, but also... "Don't tell me you're still crying over the deck you lost in the fire." At this point Solomon falls to his ghostly knees, sobbing into his hands.
He still couldn't let it go. "It was a one of a kind deck Ryou! I whooped those whippersnapper duelists and an entire audience to win that!" Sighing Ryou could only shake his head as he brings his gaze back to Yugi.
He missed her terribly, and to an extent still hated the fact that he left far too soon. His death had effected so many lives, and he saw their downward spiral. Being a guardian angel had it moments though.
Seeing his best friend fall in love and for once find the strength and confidence to be the person he always believed her to be...it left him choked up."Come on Grandpa. It's time to go." If there was anyone he felt deserved a happy ending-it was Yugi Muto.
Sniffling Solomon nodded his head offering a goodbye of his own. "Goodbye Yu-kun." Together the two left the mortal plane-allowing the wind to flow and carry on their words. Yugi turned to the wind's gale, her dress fluttering slightly.
A smile graces her lips as she heard their statements. Humming she tilts her gaze to the sky, as if looking for her deceased love ones. Not that she could see them. "Hey Yami? Do you still have the Millennium Puzzle?"
Confused her boyfriend nodded. "Of course. It's back at the apartment. Why?" He hadn't worn the ancient artifact since his birthday. Not wanting to damage it but also because he wanted to return it to Yugi. It just didn't feel right in his possession.
"I was thinking about making a little display case at the shop. Whenever I was feeling down I grabbed it believing it would give me strength. I want it to provide strength for others, if nothing else then to remind me of both the good and bad moments in life."
Clouds had begun to form, chilling the air just a little. Yami was silent as he took in her words. Belief held power, and up until last year that Millennium Puzzle was her saving grace, what kept her alive and sane. He could understand why it was so important to her.
Which touched him since she had given it to him. Even without telling him back then he knew that it was a special gift she wouldn't have simply given away on a whim.
"Sounds like a great idea Yugi. But I do have what question. What was that wish that you made before giving it to me?" It was a stupid question-practically an inside joke as the couple smile at each other. Their crimson and amethyst orbs sparkling as they both knew what was coming.
"Silly Yami don't you know? Wishes don't come true if you say them out loud."

Author Notes: Ah i'm crying. After pouring my heart and soul into this story I can't help but feel sadness and joy for this ending. I hope I managed to tie up all the loose ends and give everyone an ending they can find satisfaction in.
What most people probably won't expect is I usually choke on endings to where they're either rushed or terrible. So i really took my time with Sen motivating me to keep on going when it started getting frustration.
Special shout out to Sen my co-author who though did not read and edit-always supported me and allowing my creativity flow as if it weren't for him, i probably would not be the writer I am today.
And there is one more shout out. Jaylonni Love. Not only was this a supporter to the story but this fantastic person was for several of my chapters became my beta reader.
Jay and I had lost contact at some point as I became very busy and inconsistent with writing schedule(and for that I'm terribly sorry) But I wanted to still show my thanks as I was able to get a better idea of how I wanted this story to go especially in the beginning.
I am grateful to everyone who picked this story up and I couldn't ask for anything more than the fact that 1-i was able to finish a series as long as this, and that people liked it. I know i've been on repeat but this is a huge deal for me.
Though this series is done-there is still more to come. I plan on doing some other stories for fandoms such as Yona of the Dawn and Mortal Kombat, as well as continuing my Undertal/pokemon crossover and Fairy Tail stories, on top of one shots. Be sure to check those out if you're interested.
i might also be uploading this series(with more proper editing) on archive of our own's website too. Ok everyone i think i've written enough, so i'm ending it here *cries* Tchao for now!
