Chapter 12:

"You don't have to be a false Commander," Jaha whispered distracting Ontari for the moment.

"I AM THE TRUE COMMANDER" Ontari hissed through clenched teeth

"Ontari, please trust me. You cannot listen to them" Murphy once again urged.

"Yes, but you are without the Flame" Jaha responded.

"How do you know this?" Ontari asked

"The same way I knew to give you the shoulder guard and it is the reason you seek out the one they call Wanheda." Jaha continued.

"Ontari listen to me …."

"Teik em" Ontari ordered and guards quickly entered grabbing Murphy from behind and dragged him out of the room as he continued to urge her not to listen to Jaha and his lies but it was useless.

"You're ruling without the wisdom of the Commander's Spirit and soon your people will figure that out. I can offer you something even more powerful than the Flame. The true legacy of Bekka Pramheda. All power. All wisdom. All you need to you is swallow it." Jaha said offering her one of his chips.

Raven and Monty had joined the group and were explaining how they had come up with a plan that could stop ALIE when Clarke arrived. Jasper asked a few questions but neither Raven nor Monty gave out any details which Clarke figured was for the same reason she didn't tell anyone about the upgrade.

Once they were finished Clarke pulled them off to the side and handed Raven a piece of paper "Do you think you can do it?"

"Are you seriously asking me that?" Raven retorted a bit offended.

Clarke chuckled.

"What is it?" Monty questioned taking the paper.

"Plan B" Clarke answered before pulling them both into a hug. "Good luck and be safe," she said before joining the others.

After everyone exchanged hugs and good wishes Bellamy, Jasper, Octavia, Lincoln, and Clarke loaded into the rover and drove off no one noticing the red smoke that was beginning to fill the sky.

They had been traveling for a while Bellamy following the brief but direct instructions from Clarke who never looked up from Becca's journal. Octavia and Lincoln softly whispered to one another as Jasper impatiently sat across from them.

It wasn't much further when Jasper had finally had enough and with a huff leaned himself into the front seats "Where are we going?"

"Keep going straight when you get to the fork veer to the left. A little while later it will dead-end" Clarke said.

"What do you do when we get there?" Jasper continued but reserved no answer as Clarke turned the page. Octavia placed a hand on Jasper's shoulder just as Jasper was about to rip the book from Clarke's hands, and motioned for him to return to his seat. Lincoln leaned back and whispered into Octavia's ear who looked towards Clarke confused.

Bellamy's eyes were drawn towards the red smoke that filled the sky, quickly slam on the breaks before running into an uprooted tree causing everyone to get thrown forward.

"What the hell Bellamy?" Clarke asked reaching down looking for the book that had been thrown from her hands.

"Heda" Lincoln whispered sadly blowing his head in respect and Octavia followed.

Clarke immediately sat up looking around before stumbling out of the rover. "She can't be" she repeated trying to fight back the tears that had started falling as she walked on unstable legs. Stepping out of the back of the rover Octavia quickly followed after Clarke catching her as her legs give way.

"What does it mean?" Bellamy asked.

"The Commander's fight is over and her spirit has found another," Lincoln explains watching Clark.

"Clarke," Octavia whispered trying to pull her from her tranqe but it didn't work. Clarke remained in Octavia's arms.

"We're sitting ducks out here. We need to keep moving before ALIE figures out what we're up to" Jasper said coming up next to them. Bellamy moved to step towards Octavia and Clarke but was stopped by Lincoln gently hand resting on his shoulder.

"Clarke, we need to go," Octavia whispered trying to lift Clarke onto her feet without any success.

"It's too late" Clarke mindlessly whispered.

"What?" Octavia asks completely confused.

"It's too late. We've already lost," Clarke sniffed.

The rest of the group was around them now "What are you talking about? We find ALIE's upgrade we stop ALIE" Bellamy said.

"Lexa's dead which means ALIE has gained control of Polis and the Coalition. How long do you think we're going to last with everyone chipped or not looking for us?" Clarke asked getting to her feet in defeat.

"We can't just give up Clarke," Octavia said placing a comforting hand on her shoulder.

"Right cause it's not good enough and I need to think of something," Clarke yelled back storming towards the tree line.

"We're all going to die out here and it's her fault," Jasper snapped.

"Jasper chill. She just needs a minute," Octavia responding internally debating whether or not to follow after Clarke herself but eventually deciding that what she told Jasper was right. Clarke needed a few moments alone.

Blinded by memories of Lexa, Clarke stumbled across the uneven forest floor until her legs could no longer hold her up and she fell once again this time no one there to catch her. The moment Clarke's knees hit the ground everything became too much and she lost herself as memories and regrets for upspoken words overpowered her mind and tears began to pour down her face.

The memories were so clear and flood so naturally through her mind that Clarke could almost pretend there were real.

"You think our ways are harsh but it's how we survive," Lexa's voice sang through her as they stood in her tent before the battle at Mount Weather "Maybe life should be about more than just surviving. Don't we deserve better than that?" The short pause was agonizing as Clarke wanted to fell Lexa's soft lips on her once more "Maybe we do" Lexa answered pulling Clarke into a kiss. Quickly faded into the night outside of Mount Weather. Lexa stood at the entranqe covered in blood releasing Emerson "I made this decision with my head and not my heart" she spoke turning away and leaving her behind. Those elven words destroying what little hope Clarke still clung too and the three words that started to bring her back even if she was didn't want to see it at the time; standing in the throne room after Roan had brought her to Polis, "I need you." and finally the conversation that settled all problems between them "If you betray me again …" "I won't," Lexa said slowing getting to her knees "I swear fealty to you, Clarke kom Skaikru. I vow to treat your needs as my own and your people as my people."

Clark remained on the ground letting all the pain wash over her as each memory broke her even more. How much more could she lose, her father, Finn and even herself, how much more would this world continue to take until she wasn't able to get back up again. Clarke thought that was it. There was no going back, ALIE had won.

Lexa laid complexly relaxed on the couch in her room as Clarke sat in the opposite chair listening to everything Lexa told her about her people and their culture "After the Commander's death there is a time of mourning and the Natblidas perform the Purification Ritual where …." Clarke cuts her off "Lexa, I would prefer not talking about your death." Lexa only nods and changes the topic. Clarke thought about how comfortable they felt around each other during the few quiet moments they had, Lexa sleeping on the couch while Clarke drew or the nights, they spent talking about what is was liking living in the sky verse living on the ground. Up until the night before Clarke had to leave. "I got it on my Ascension Day. A circle for every Natblida that died, when the Commander choice me." Lexa spoke her words heavy. "7 circles? I thought you said there were 9 novitiates at your conclave" Clarke asked, "Can we talk about something else?" Lexa asked rolling over to look into Clarke's eyes. "We don't have to talk at all" Clarke smiled.

"Clarke, if anything happens you will be able to find me where the eighth circle meets." Lexa's voice whispered in the back of her mind freezing Clarke in that moment. "Lexa" she breathed her tears stopping and with her body regaining strength, Clarke got to her feet and took off back towards the group.

"Lincoln" she called breaking through the trees coming to stop in front of him trying to catch her breath as the others, all excepted Jasper, looked concerned.

"Finally, can we go now?" Jasper asked heading back to the rover.

"Do you know where the eighth circle is?" Clarke asked still gasping for air.

"Eighth circle?" Bellamy asked "Clarke, we don't have time for this, we need to leave."

"Lexa has a tattoo on her back, there's a circle for each Natblida that died during her conclave but there were nine. Do you know where they are?" Clarke explained still trying to catch her breath.

"Yes," Lincoln answered understanding what Clarke was asking.

"Can you take me there?" Clarke asked.

"We don't have time for you to go off on some side quest," Jasper snapped turning back to the group.

"Look, before leaving Polis I told Murphy to send us a sign if there was trouble. This could be his way of doing that and if that's the case Lexa could still be alive. She told me where I could find her or at least a safe place."

"Clarke, we need to find ALIE's upgrade not go on some wild goose chase given to you by the person who lift us for dead" Bellamy said, "Now get back in the damn rover."

"I can't Bellamy."

"I knew we couldn't trust her. When things get difficult Clarke up and leaves. Tell us where you hide the upgrade?" Jasper said approaching her while reaching for his gun but before he knew what was happening Octavia had him pinned and disarmed.

"Everyone needs to calm down," Octavia called.

"Lincoln, we're heading towards Meizen Wamplei. Is the place Lexa told me about anywhere near there?" Clarke asked trying to work everything out.

Lincoln thought for a moment and nodded "It is about two hours by foot" Lincoln said pulling out his notebook and started drawing.

"Alright, I'll go to get the upgrade while the rest of you go with Lincoln and I'll meet you there in a few hours," Clarke said grabbing her pack from the rover.

"Clarke, this is insane. We should stick together" Bellamy said.

"We were going to have to split up anyway. None of you will be able to get where I'm going. It's too dangerous."

"I'll go with her" Octavia said taking the piece of paper from Lincoln, giving him a parting kiss and they both took off without saying another word as Bellamy called after them.

Octavia and Clarke hiked through the woods until they reached a large field covered in an array for beautiful colored flowers and plants. Upon seeing the field, Octavia stopped and started searching for a way around seeing none, she headed back into the forest immediately grabbing Clarke's arm when she didn't stop.

"Clarke, we can't walk through there, we'll die," Octavia said concerned.

Clarke smiled and turned back towards the field "Only if you don't know what you're doing" she said taking a few steps in before turning back around "You can stay here or step exactly where I do and you'll be fine." Octavia watched Clarke for a moment as she continued into the field before following carefully after her.

"I stumbled across this place within the first few weeks, thought about staying here for about 10 seconds until I noticed all the poisonous plants" Clarke explained as they walked.

"Why come back then? Octavia asked trying to keep herself from falling over as she followed Clarke's zig-zag motions.

"When bounty hunters and people questing for Wanheda's power started coming after me I realized I couldn't stay hidden in the woods forever, especially with my hair color so I figured this was a good place to hide out" she explained. "There is a cave around the bend that I lived in for a …" cutting herself off as she quickly reached out her arms catching Octavia as she stumbled almost falling into a cluster of bright pink and red flowers which Clarke knew to be Oleander. "Did you know that the Grounders use most of these plants for medicine?" Clarke asked once Octavia was steady on her feet.

Octavia shook her head still shocked at Clarke's quick reflexes. Clarke smiles letting her go and pointed at a white trumpet-shaped flower with prickly fruits "This one is called Jindauna, we know it as Jimson Weed. Once dried they can be used to relieve pain, encourages healing and the smoke from the burning flowers can help relieve asthma symptoms. Others use it for its more recreational properties. Those dull green leaves with the blackberries are called Wanshoga or Nightshade and it can be used as a muscle relaxer and an anti-inflammatory" Clarke said. "I had been hiding out in the cave for about a week or so when I noticed a few people walking through the fields as if they were walking through a vegetable garden. They recognized me as Wanheda, took me in and taught me and I taught them what I knew."

"Who were they?"

"I never asked" she answered taking a few more steps but Octavia stopped her.

"So, why did you leave?" Octavia asked.

"As the tales of Wanheda spread, more and more people keep coming for me. Nia continued to raise the bounty on my head. I didn't want to put them in any more danger then I was already putting them in, so I died my hair and left." Clarke said turned and they continued to walk in silence.

"I'll be right back," Clarke said as she easily cleared the field and quickly disappeared through a crack in the rocks before Octavia could follow. After a few moments, Clarke reappeared holding a small box and placing it into her pocket. Clarke prepared to head back into the field however, Octavia never made a move to follow. "What is it?" Clarke asked.

"You could have stayed" Octavia finally said speaking the words that have been on her mind for weeks.

Taking a deep breath, Clarke looked at her "No, I couldn't." Clarke admitted. "Something inside of me broke that night and as we headed back, I saw the way everyone was looking at me; it was the same way you looked at me when you found out about the bomb." Clarke paused thinking for a moment "As you found yourself here, I seemed to lose myself but living with those people, learning from them, teaching them, healing them, I was able to find a piece of myself and therefore heal and I know that would have never had happened if I had stayed."

"Why?"

"You know Skaikru as well as I do. They aren't very forgiving. Seeing their faces every day would have only reminded me of all the people I killed but with them, it was never about the people I killed but the people I saved. It didn't erase the weight but for a little while, it made it bearable at least until I was alone again. After leaving that village I stayed to myself only going to the trading post when it was necessary, gave my mind a lot of time to think dark thoughts and torment me."

"What changed?"

"Roan kidnapped me and dragged me to Polis" Clarke joked but then became serious "honestly, I don't really know, maybe Polis just has that effect on people. Between training to stop Nia, then Pike and working with Lexa to strengthen the relationship between Skaikru and the Coalition I was finally able to forgive myself."

Octavia stood listening and nodded, still not fully understanding what Clarke was talking about but the one thing she did understand was the power this world seemed to have. "I'm sorry Clarke, and so you know I'm really glad you're back," Octavia said pulling her into a tight hug.

"I'm glad I'm back too" Clarke responded pulling Octavia even closer.

"We should get going," Octavia said releasing Clarke and pulling out Lincoln's map showing it to Clarke who nodded and started walking through the field as the sun began to set behind them.

"SHIT" Monty called slamming his hand on the desk causing Raven to jump a little and drop what she has been soldering.

"What's wrong?" she asked.

"ALIE's code is changing," Monty said pointed to the screens.

"It's not changing. She's adding more people" Raven said her eyes fixed on the screen in shock. "How is this possible? This cluster is a building but everything else" she said motioning to the other computer screens "These are all minds. It's full of them. Thousands." Raven says as she begins to type. "She's taken Polis too. ALIE's army is growing. The longer we wait to go in the stronger she gets."

"Working on it but it's tricky especially when her code continues to change. I've been looking for a place the virus can attack that will be high on the priority list so ALIE will need to divert most of her power too while also not putting anyone in danger" Monty said frustratedly getting lost in the millions of lines of coding that spread across the serval screens and pushed himself away from the computer. "What have you been working on?" he asked picking up the small device on Raven's makeshift work station.

"Not sure. The pages Clarke gave me are just specs but she said it was Plan B," Raven said continuing to type away.

"Perimeter's clear. Bryan and Miller have watch. How is it going in here?" Harper asked appearing in the doorway with a tray of food. Monty placed the object down giving her a disappointed look and turning back to the screen "That good huh?" she continued placing the tray down on the table. "That a break? I could use some help securing the south airlock?" she asked Monty.

"I really …."

"Go, I'll come get you when I find a solution" Raven spoke up.

Monty gave her a half-smile "You sure? Cause I can stay an…"

"I'll be fine."

"Fine" Monty told her placing a few dry pieces of meat next to the keyboard "Make sure you eat something," he said before leaving with Harper.

"I'm worried about her" Monty confessed as he and Harper walk through the Ark heading to the airlock. "She hasn't taken a break."

"Neither have you."

"Yea, but I'm just trying to keep up. I'm serious." He says when Harpers giggles softly. "I look at ALIE's code and see physic subroutines, collision meshes but Raven sees the City of Light. It's not just code to her. It's real" he said as they walked. "Aren't we going to the airlock?" he asked finally noticing that Harper had stopped.

"Already sealed" she answered with a guilty grin.

"You ok?" he asked placing his hand gently on her upper arm.

"I'm fine. Yea" she said nervously. "I was just thinking. It's been about two days since anyone tried to kill us…"

"It won't last," Monty said honestly

"I know" she confirmed, "but are we supposed to spent the time between attacks dreading the next one."

"Not like we have much of a choice." Harper nervously moved closer to him and gave him a soft kiss. "You're still you, right? Artificial Intelligence hasn't taken over or anything?" Monty joked when the kiss broke.

"I'm still me" Harper smiled.

"Awesome" Monty said pulling her back into another kiss.

"Come on" Harper whispered taking his hand and walking through the Ark.

The sun had long set when Octavia and Clarke appeared on the beach, hearing the rustling Bellamy quickly pulled his gun.

"It's just us," Clarke said as Octavia walked over to Lincoln who was throwing leaves into the fire turning the smoke purple.

"Did you find it?" Bellamy asked Clarke who only nodded and joined the rest.

Clarke sat like an outsider as everyone, except Jasper who was standing off to the side looking out into the vast ocean, sat around the fire in silence, eating. Bellamy had tried many times to talk to his sister but she continued to ignore him and spoke to Lincoln in Trigedasleng.

"I was protecting us" Bellamy announced angrily "You can't be mad at me forever."

"Yes, I can because you weren't" Octavia yelled getting to her feet with Lincoln following quickly after placing a comforting hand on her shoulder as he tried to soothe his own. "You were angry and lashed out because that's what you do. You killed innocent people, my friends, Lincoln's friends and family. You were going to execute an entire village" she continued fighting back the tears building in her eyes, "I will never forgive you for that" she said walking away.

Bellamy stood there having no response, looked at Lincoln for some sort of support but got none as Lincoln walked past him and followed silently after Octavia. Clarke watched as Bellamy's annoyance grew inside of him and he stormed off in the opposite direction. Clarke sat there looking around at the divided group, remembering a time when they were happy before blood started spilling and screams filled the air, back when life seemed easy. Taking a deep breath Clarke rose to her feet, wiped the sand from her pants and followed after him.

"Have you come to fix things, Wanheda?" Bellamy asked as she stepped next to him but she just stood there in silence waiting. "Why can't they see that I was protecting them?" he finally asked.

"Where you?" Clarke countered.

"How would you know; you weren't even there?" Bellamy asked looking in the direction Octavia had taken off. "I've lost her."

"Maybe; maybe not" Clarke responded, "What did you think was going to happen after you slaughtered their people?" Clarke said calmly without judgement. Bellamy went to say something but Clarke held out a hand stopping him, "they are Trikru" she corrected before he could argue.

"That army could've attacked at any time and you know that," Bellamy said defensively.

"They were there to protect Arkadia from Azgeda. They were innocent."

"Innocent? Those people have been attacking us since we landed. They left us to die on that damn mountain but we didn't and then they killed my girlfriend."

"Azgeda attacked Mount Weather trying to start a war that night, not Trikru."

"They're all the same," he said trying to justify his actions.

"That sounds more like Pike then you" she stated looking towards Lincoln and Octavia. "What about Lincoln and Indra? Are they the same?"

"I did what I had to do. Same as you" he whispered not answering her question.

"No, it wasn't."

"So, killing to save our people is only acceptable when you do it?"

"What?"

"You killed the Mountain Men to save our people just like I did. It's exactly the same" Bellamy explained.

"The Mountain Men had our people chained to the walls. They were torturing and killing us. I offered them a chance, I told them what I would do if they didn't stop but Cage wouldn't listen. If I didn't pull that lever, they would have killed all of us. I was saving everyone" she defended.

"So was I" he argued.

Clarke looked at him, how could he not see that what they did was different. That killing the Mountain Men was something that she never wanted and it was the last option. "The difference Bellamy is the people you killed were not a threat when you attacked them," she began speaking calmly trying to find the words "The difference is I went into the mountain with the intent to save everyone; us, the Grounders and even the Mountain Men. It was supposed to be a rescue mission" she told him remembering the briefing. "But in the end, I had to choose between watching our people die or saving them. I made killing the last possible option while killing those warriors was your first. You didn't even give them a chance."

"They could've attacked" he repeated.

"But they didn't. Those warriors volunteered to be there. They offered to protect Arkadia as a sign of thanks for destroying the people who had been plaguing them for years and good faith for the future before you and Pike murdered them while they slept" she paused. "Bellamy, you may have seen those warriors as a threat but what about the little boy that Hannah would've killed if Octavia hadn't been there to save him or the people from that village you attacked? How were they a threat?" she asked and he remand quiet. "You were angry and grieving and it clouded your judgement. You followed Pike blindly and attacked without cause. You allowed Pike to lock up Lincoln for trying to protect his people who were in the need of medical treatment and you were going to let Pike execute him along with Sinclair, Kane and the other Grounders" Clarke said.

"I told Lincoln to stand down but he attacked the guards there was nothing I could do. Kane and Sinclair started a coup. They would've been floated on the Ark and you know that."

"Then why did you go to Octavia? If you believed in what Pike was doing and everything, he stood for why agree to help us? Why not turn me over to Pike the minute you walked me into Arkadia like you tried to before?"

"I …" Bellamy started but couldn't finish.

"Put yourself in Lincoln's shoes for a moment. If Pike wanted to lock up your people who had done nothing wrong…." Clarke could see it on Bellamy's face that he wasn't going to go along with the scenario so she changed her tactic "How about if Pike wanted to lock up Octavia or worse kill her for being with Lincoln or being a Grounder, would you have stood there and done nothing while she was dragged away or would you have fought to protect her?" she asked.

"You weren't there. What he did … it was different" he tried justifying.

"How?" Clarke asked "Lincoln was protecting his people just like you would've protected Octavia. He saw his people being wrongfully arrested and wanted to help them. Didn't you do the same when the guards found out about Octavia? Besides, you know that Pike didn't only want to arrest those people and eventually Pike would've found a reason to arrest Lincoln because he isn't Skaikru."

"What was I supposed to do? You were gone. What was I supposed to do?" Bellamy asked his voice breaking a little.

"Protect our people. Not cause a war that put everyone's life in danger. Think about them before yourself. Lincoln and you were friends and he believed you would have his back but you stood there and watched as they locked him away. You broke their trust Bellamy and you can't expect them to forgive and trust you again just because you want them too. It doesn't work like that."

"You left…"

"I know and you blame me for leaving, you blame me for staying in Polis, you blame me for leaving the responsibility to you, you blame Lexa for betraying us, you blame the Grounders for the bombing, you blame Octavia for not being on your side and who knows who else you blame for whatever else has happened in your life but when are you going to take responsible for what you have done and what those actions have caused?"

"Like you've ever taken responsibility for anything."

"I have always bore it so they don't have to. I took responsibility for closing the dropship door, for killing Finn, for Ton DC, and even before I told Cage I would eradicate level 5. I know what I've done and don't blame anyone else for it. I knew what I was doing and I chose to do it. I chose to put what I thought was best for my people and I will always stand behind those decisions."

"I forgave you and you still left."

"Did you ever think my leaving had nothing to do with you? When we got back to Arkadia that day, I was consumed with guilt and hate. I knew I wasn't in any shape to continue leading them the way they needed me to and I wasn't even sure they wanted me too after everything I did. I needed time. I spent my entire life learning how to save people and in the span of 2 months I had killed more people then I would ever get the chance to save. After everything I needed time to process what I had done, what I had become. I learned how to forgive myself and that's all I can do. Maybe one day you and the others can forgive me or maybe just understand what I did but if not that's fine" she finished.

"I did what I had to do" he whispered again completely defeated.

"Who are you trying to convince?" she asked leaving him alone with his thoughts.

"Who are we waiting for?" Jasper asked as the group sat by the fire eating some roasted rabbit but before he could respond several people appeared behind them. Bellamy and Jasper jumped to their feet guns drawn followed by Clarke.

"Don't. Put them down" she said stepping in front of them.

"Skaikru aren't welcome here especially not Wanheda," the leader of the group said.

"Emo kom ai," Lincoln said slowly getting to his feet. "We need to speak to Luna."

"Ai nou na bash yo op" Clarke said at the same as Lincoln.

"Tell that to the Commander," a female standing to the leader's left said lifting her arrow at Clarke's head waiting for any reason to release.

"What does that mean?" Clarke urged.

"RIPA NOU GE TEIK IN HIR!" One tall longed hair man wielding a sword shouted stepping up to her but is pulled back by their leader.

"Osir jos beda frag em op." called another.

Clarke stood unable to move, shocked and sadness exploded across her face as she put the pieces together; Lexa was dead and they believed she was the one who had killed her. Tears filled her eyes as Lexa's face appeared before her and just as quickly faded away along with the last bit of hope Clarke had been holding onto. Clarke hadn't even realized that Octavia had moved behind her and had a firm grip on her arm to help keep her standing.

"You should not have brought them here, Lincoln kom Trikru," the leader said holding out his arm which Lincoln took with a smile.

"Ha yun, ai lukot."Lincoln said turning back to the Skaikru "This is Dison, he is the leader of the scouting parties."

"Oso beda gon. Tai op Wanheda" he ordered.

Clarke complies placing her hands behind her back "We are meeting up with another group" Dison explained answering Lincoln's unasked question before turning and heading back in the direction where they had appeared followed closely by the guards leading Clarke.

Five mins, an hour, a day, a week; Clarke wasn't sure how long she was pushed forward. Her mind only focusing on how she failed. Failed to protect Lexa. Failed to protect all the young Natblidas; as she watched images of them fighting and dying in the conclave in her mind. Failed to protect her people. She could hear voices around her but she couldn't understand anything. Maybe the Grounders were right when they named her Wanheda. Death followed wherever she went; killing everyone she loved. She barely felt the rocks and twigs pushing themselves into her knees as she was violently forced to the ground.

"Breik em au!" a voice ordered.

Clarke's arms fell to her sides unmoving and the sack was removed from her head but she remained on the ground unable to lookup.

"Clarke?" the voice spoke softly and the young boy kneed in front of her finally catching her attention.

"Aden?" Clarke questioned looking into his eyes. The young boy only smiled at her as she pulled him into a hug without thinking. The guards moved to protect the young Natblida but he lifted his hand stopping them. "I thought…" she began her voice cracking as she released her hold and looked into his eyes "The smoke. I thought …" she couldn't finish but Aden simply nodded understanding.

"Titus came to our chambers, told some of us that Lexa needed us to go a mission and had the guards escort us out of Polis; he must have suspected something was about to happen. By the time we saw the smoke, the guards refused to let us return and then Luna's people arrived" he explained helping Clarke to her feet.

"You cannot trust Wanheda. She is the one who killed the Commander. It is all over the woods" one of his guards said.

"Clarke," Aden spoke sounding much older than he did the last time Clark heard him "would no more hurt Lexa then she would us." Clarke looked behind him and saw a few more of Lexa's Natblida children standing close by this putting a smile on her face.

"Young Aden is right" came a female voice spoke from behind the group which parted for her as she walked closer. "Clarke is a guest among us" she continued walking up to Lincoln with a stern look "This one on the other hand …" she began looking over at Octavia who had begun to unsheathe her sword and smiled, "should never be trusted when it comes tocliff sides" the women announced.

"The rains were heavy that year and if I remember correctly, I was trying to catch you as you slipped when the ground shifted," Lincoln said jokingly defending his actions.

"Even after all this time you still won't attempt that you pushed me"

"I would if that was how it happened."

They continued back and forth for a while as the group watched the almost sibling-like banter finally pulling each other into a hug as they laughed.

"It has been too long," she said turning away from Lincoln and back to Clarke "My name is Luna and welcome. Sit, and relax for it will be a long journey."

Taking a look around for the first time since the sack was removed, Clarke saw children of varying ages, as well as many adults. "What happened?"

"We don't know the whole story but I received a messenger from the Fleimkepa. He said that things were happening in Polis and was unsure if he nor Lexa could protect everyone. He asked if I would come and bring people to safety. Knowing Titus for as long as I have, I knew it had to be serious for him to ask me for help" Luna answered, "Now, eat there is plenty and we can speak more once we are safe."

"What about Lexa?" Clarke called after her.

"Some say her body was found in the woods and animals had already found her. Others say Azgeda found her shoulder guard covered in blood and forced the conclave. The only thing everyone is sure about is that you killed her" Aden said looking up at her. "Come let's eat," he said leading her towards the fire leaving the rest of the Skaikru to do what they wanted.

A group of young children sitting alone talking amongst themselves drawing Clarke's attention as a few of them starting pushing the youngest one in her directions. Clarke sat there unmoving as she watched the young boy slowly move towards her, pausing a few times before he finally gathered enough courage and walked the last few steps without fear.

"Yu laik Wanheda?" he asked.

Clarke nodded "Yu na tag ai laik Clarke," she told him with a smile looking back towards the group behind them.

Taking one more look towards his friends, who gave him encouraging smiles, the boy pulled out a small wooden craving and passed it to her, "Mochof. Yu don kep ai nontu klin kom Maunon. for saving my father from the Mountain" he said.

"Por, weron yu nontu kamp raun?" she asked taking the small object scanning the group for the boys' father.

The boy looks at the ground and shakes his head, "Skaikru don frag em op" he whispered. Clarke's stomach dropped and looked up at the rest of the children seeing them without parents.

"Moba" Clarke said placing a supportive hand on his shoulder. The boy's body stiffening to the touch and he became nervous again. "Chit yu gaf?" Clarke asked in a soft reassuring voice.

"Luna, don biyo yu nou ouder. Yu nou hedon emo wamplei…" he began but stopped looking up at her "ba na hedon oson?" he said shocking Clarke. Once again, her eyes moved to the group but this time saw fear in their eyes. Turning back to the boy she smiled facing him fully.

"Chit yu tagon bilaik?"

"Darren"

"Darren, mafta ai op," she asked getting to her feet and held out her hand which he took nervously and they walked back to the group of children. Clarke sat on the ground still holding onto Darren's hand as she spoke with them and soon enough, they were all laughing and smiling with her their fears forgotten for the moment but it was just a moment.

Clarke watched the fear return as she heard footsteps behind her and when they stopped the kids took off back to where Luna and her guards stood watching. Clarke got to her feet bushing her pants off and looked at Bellamy who starred at the children in confusion.

"They're parents were killed the night of the attack" she explained her eyes still glued on the group and followed after them but hesitates as she hears bridges snapping in the forest around them. "Are you excepting more people?" Clarke asked Luna brushing up next to her so no one else could hear. Luna took a glance around them and shook her head. Listening carefully Clarke hoped her ears would pick up something but it was Luna who acted first pushing Clarke to the ground as an arrow flew past just missing them.

War cries filled the area as people start emerging from all around them. Getting her to feet, Clarke pulls out her trac gun and shoots stopping an attack on Luna. "Go, get the kids to safety" Clarke orders rushing over to help Aden, shooting another grounder before Bellamy could kill him "Use the tranqs" she called to him. "We aren't killing anyone." Bellamy groaned but complied knocking out another attacker with the butt of his rifle. "Aden, get the others and go with Luna" she called.

"We can fight," he said knocking out the women he had been fighting.

"I know you can but we can hold them off while you help everyone get to safety. Your people need you. Now go" she ordered and she was attacked from behind. "Go" she called trying to fight off her attacker but failing until the body slumped on top of her.

"Thanks," she said as Octavia pulled her to her feet. "Aden?"

"He took off after the others when he saw me coming," Octavia said getting back into the fight. Clarke quickly turned to the sound of a gun seeing Bellamy shooting a Skaikru guard and then another. "Bellamy" Clarke called pointing towards Darren and the group of kids who had been surrounded and she picked up a sword and heading towards them. Bellamy went to fire but his trac gun was empty, dropping it to the ground Bellamy pulled around his rifle and fired, killing their attackers.

"Run" Bellamy called pulling Darren to his feet and pushing the kids beyond the tree line. Bellamy turned to look for Clarke and found her fighting off serval attackers seeing that she was holding her own he got back into the fight.

Finishing off her last attacker, Clarke paused looking around. They were outnumbered and it was only getting worse. There was no way they could win. Acting quickly Clarke pulled out the small box from her pocket, "Hey, ALIE" she called catching the attention of a few of them "you want your upgrade? Come and get it" she said shaking the box a little before taking off into the woods away from the group. ALIE's people running behind her.

Clarke zig-zag through the trees, under branches and jumping over a tripwire which of course one of ALIE's people triggered, killing them. Clarke had to admit that this wasn't one of her brightest plans she thought as she ran searching for a way to get rid of the group chasing her, without killing them if possible. Clarke was pulled from her thoughts by the intense pain of an arrow digging its way through her upper arm, stumbling into the nearest tree, quickly she pushed herself away and continued running as two more arrows embedded themselves where Clarke had just been.

Clarke continued to weave in and out of the trees trying to put as many obstacles between her and her pursuers as she could. The throbbing in her arm increased and she wasn't sure how muc10h longer she could continue before her legs gave out but with that thought, she pushed herself more.

Not sure how long she had been running for, legs started to slow down no matter how hard she tried to push them forward, she was running out of time. Clarke had managed to, with the luck of a few tripwires and tree traps, get some distance between herself and her attackers but she needed to come up with a plan quick. Clarke continued to scan the darkness for anything that would help, focusing on the sounds and yells behind her that she didn't notice the increasing whooshing sound until she needed to stop herself abruptly a river's edge. Clarke watched as the water crashed against the rocks as it rushed downstream and tried looking for a safer place to cross but not having much time Clarke quickly but carefully stepped into the water, clinging to the rocks as the rushing water threatened to pull her with it, as she crossed.

ALIE people were quick to jump into the water after her and were washed away however a few of them did manage to get close enough to Clarke and pull her away from the rock she was gripping and slamming her back into another one, groaning with pain. Clarke felt the arrow be pulled from her arm and she kicked her attacker hard pushing them into a jagged rock losing them in the waves but it wasn't long before another person attacked her.

Eventually, Clarke was able to crawl up onto the river bank and pull herself out of the water and taking a moment to catch her breath. Slowly, Clarke picked herself up on numb limbs, started to get her bearing when she was hit hard from behind and tumbled back to the ground, "Where is it?" a Grounder asked flipping her over and lifting her to her feet.

"You want it, go get it," she said throwing a small rock into the woods best as she could while being held.

"No" he called moving his grip to her throat as a few people passed them heading in the direction of the rock.

"DERRICK" Luna yelled coming up behind him and pulled at his arm but he wouldn't release. "What are you doing? Let her go." Luna pulled at his arm without success "I'm sorry" she said before punching him in the stomach and twisting his arm around his back, releasing Clarke who fell to her knees coughing. "Derrick stop, beja" Luna pleaded as Derrick got to his feet and attacked her. Luna easily blocked his attacks and pulled hers growing concerned when he didn't respond to her questions.

"Wait, Luna …" Clarke yelled distracting Luna long enough for Derrick to land one perfect blow knocking Luna off her feet. At that moment Clarke saw Luna's composure brake and she attacked with a fury she had only ever seen in Lexa's eyes; in one swift motion, Luna was on her feet and held Derrick from behind.

"You need to stop Derrick" Luna cried but it was no use, he continued to try to attack and free himself from her grip. "Yu gonplei ste odon," she said tears falling down her face and right as she was about to add the last bit of needed strength to snap his neck, his body went limp in her arms. Confused she released him and looked up to see Clarke holding a rock. Luna dropped next to him and pulled him into her arms as Clark checked for a pulse.

"He'll be fine," Clarke told her breathing hard. "He, along with everyone else who attacked us, are all being controlled by ALIE."

"How could someone do this?" Luna asked.

"Using tech from the old world. She's after something I have and if she gets it, she will become unstoppable. Polis has fallen and I'm guessing the next Commander is already being controlled. Look you don't need to kill them but you need to be careful. When you get home, you need to make sure it's safe."

"No one can reach us," Luna said.

"If these people knew how to get there then so does ALIE. Once ALIE takes control she knows everything they know," Clarke explained still trying to catch her breath "Look ALIE makes the person forget things that caused them pain so you need to keep an eye out for anyone forgetting important details, people, or don't feel pain. Immediately knock them out and lock them up."

"LUNA! CLARKE!" voices called.

"Over here" Luna called back. Luna's guards along with Bellamy and Octavia appeared.

"We are fine. We need to leave now. Take Derrick and lock him up along with the others that were captured" Luna said getting to her feet. Her guards immediately following her orders.

"I'm fine," Clarke said as Octavia pulled her into a hug.

"What were you thinking?" Octavia argued looking over all the cuts and burses Clarke reserved.

"We were outnumbered and needed a distraction" Clarke explained, "how is everyone?" concerned not seeing Jasper or Lincoln with them.

"Fine. We took care of the ones that didn't follow you then followed them to find you" Bellamy said looking around.

"We should get going," Clarke said pointing to Luna's group who had already begun to leave.

"Maybe Raven and Monty made some progress," Octavia said as they headed back.
