Erm… Yikes? So it's been a while, huh? That's my bad, I'm sorry. I lost a lot of inspiration for this fic unfortunately and it just… spiralled. But hey, hopefully I can try and give it a satisfying ending, right?
There will be an Epilogue to this, but this is more or less the end. I hope you enjoy it.
We Don't Allow Kidnappings, Dammit
Unfortunately, Christmas break couldn't last forever. As much as Harry would have loved to stay in the bubble of domesticity they'd built over the holidays, he knew that as soon as the New Year rang in, they both had to get back to real life and responsibility.
With the elections drawing ever nearer, Harry had decided to shelve the holiday until the summer, when hopefully their combined schedule would have calmed down a little.
Even though Harry took shameless advantage of the Headmaster's permission to leave the castle in the evenings, he and Tom still didn't get much time together for themselves. When Hermione and Ron asked him to remain for the Hogsmeade visit, Harry was torn.
He knew he owed it to his friends, he really did. The amount of things on his plate had severely cut into the time he would usually be spending with them, but in the same breath, he actually missed his husband.
Tom wasn't altogether pleased with the idea with Harry not coming home for the weekend, but surprising—to Harry at least—Tom encouraged him to at least spend the day in the town connected to the school.
That was how Harry found himself apparating back into Hogsmeade instead of spending the weekend at home like he'd originally planned.
"How is everything going with, erm…" Hermione trailed off, blushing to the roots of her hair.
Harry snorted. "Tom, Hermione. His name is Tom. And it's going well. After what happened with Diggory… I guess everyone is still a little tense because of those asshole Knights."
Ron nodded. "Mum and Dad were talking about them over the holidays. Dad was approached to join them."
Harry rolled his eyes. He knew about that; Dumbledore had informed them immediately after Arthur had alerted him. It was irritating that they hadn't dug up anything substantial on them since Amos' death though.
Not even many more names, and fewer still that Harry recognised.
"I mean, I suppose you've got to understand that some people are still angry. Voldemort pretty much gets a free pass just because he married you. There's no fairness in that," Hermione said quietly.
"And you think warmongering is a good solution?" Harry asked, eyes narrowing slightly. "I married him to end the war, not start a new one."
"I'm not saying it is," Hermione protested. "I'm just saying that people have a… reason to be angry about it. That's all."
Harry, irritated and trying not to be, didn't reply. There was an awkward silence for a few moments, before Ron changed the subject to the goings on in school and the tension eased somewhat.
They were about to go into the Three Broomsticks when Harry got a sudden compulsion to visit the oddity shop at the end of the lane. He told Ron and Hermione he'd join them and set off alone, Severus trailing behind him.
"Harry!"
He turned when he heard the panic in Severus' voice, but it was too late. Spells were flying and blackness took him before he could even draw his wand.
His head hurt, but he forced his eyes open anyway, taking in his surroundings. He was tied to a chair, and immediately he saw Severus slumped in the corner of the room, bound and still unconscious.
"Fuckity," he muttered to himself, struggling against the bindings. They were obviously fortified with magic, because if it had been regular rope, he'd have been able to magic them looser.
"Oh, good, you're awake."
Harry turned and then blinked. "Katie? What the hell?"
"How could you do it, Harry? How could you marry him, after everything he did? After what he did to me?"
"Katie, I married him so that things like that would stop happening!"
"He got off scot free! He ruined my life, Harry! Did you know that I can't fly anymore? I was going to be a professional! He took that from me and you married him!"
"And you think this will help?" Harry asked softly. "Kidnapping me, hurting Snape, committing acts of terrorism and being as bad as he was? You think this is going to improve things?"
"Someone needs to pay for what happened to me! For the deaths and the hurt and the terror that was caused!"
"All you've done is signed your own death warrant," Harry said sadly, shaking his head. "If you think he isn't already on his way, you're insane."
"We negated your bracelet, and nobody even knows who we are, Harry. He won't find you in time."
Harry sighed. "You're forgetting something, Katie."
She frowned at him, and tilted her head. Harry elaborated.
"He's still the same man that brought the Wizarding World to war. He might have changed his ways, but don't think that he's changed that much."
"That's cute. You think he cares enough about you enough to—"
There was a bang, a shout, and a scream and Harry smirked at Katie.
"Yeah. I do."
Katie drew her wand and pointed at Harry's chest, her eyes on the door. A wave of magic swept over Harry, and the ropes fell away from him. He was up in a second, Katie's wand knocked out of her hand.
Within seconds, he had her bound with the ropes that had held him, and Tom burst into the room, the rage evident in his blood red eyes.
"Harry, are you okay?" he asked, eyes roaming all over Harry looking for injuries.
"Fine," Harry assured him. "You?"
"Better now I have you here," Tom admitted. He glared at Katie. Harry hesitated. He knew that rage could lead Tom back into practices best left before their marriage, but he didn't say anything.
Tom glared at her for a long moment before he shook his head and reached out a hand to tug Harry into his side.
"You're not worth it," he told Katie, stroking Harry's cheek.
She spat at him, but he turned away from her and instead kissed Harry gently. "Go on, I'll be right behind you," he murmured. "I'll fetch Severus with me."
Harry nodded and walked away. He didn't spare Katie another glance.
"I didn't understand terror until I heard you were missing," Tom said, later that evening. "You're not allowed to be kidnapped again, you hear me?"
Harry smiled and pressed his cheek against Tom's chest. "You know I can't promise you that."
"Do you have any idea how much I wanted to slay every single one of them?" Tom asked, his hands rubbing possessively over Harry's skin. "If you had been irreparably harmed, they would have all fallen to my wand. All of them, Harry."
"I know," Harry said softly. "I do know that, Tom. Can we just go to bed. I just… want to be done with the day."
"They were interviewed under Veritaserum and we have a comprehensive list of the Royal Knights," Kingsley informed them, when Harry and Tom joined Dumbledore, Kingsley and Amelia at the Ministry. "Most of them have already been placed under arrest, and I have my Auror's out searching for the remaining members."
Harry nodded. "They'll all be put to trial?"
"Every single one of them," Amelia confirmed. "And the sentencing will not be lenient. It doesn't matter how justified they think their actions, they still committed acts that require strong action."
"Katie Bell… I think she needs an intensive psychiatric assessment," Harry admitted, rubbing a hand over his face.
"Why do you say that, Harry?" Dumbledore asked. He looked older than Harry had ever seen. Harry supposed it was because many of the names had been students that had left Hogwarts within the last few years.
"She seemed… a little nuts?" Harry replied with a shrug. "More than angry, she's had her life torn apart and seemed to have turned that into rage. I just… she seemed a little unstable."
"We'll have her evaluated then," Kingsley said softly. "And get her help if that's what she needs."
Tom squeezed Harry's hand. "You're a better man than most, Harry Potter."
Harry shook his head but he smiled at Tom and returned the pressure to his hand.
"How is Severus?" Amelia asked, and Harry couldn't stop himself from chuckling.
"Hating Madam Pomfrey the last time I saw him. She's still refusing to let him leave the Hospital Wing. He's threatening mutiny."
Tom laughed, and even Dumbledore cracked a smile.
"Katie reached out to her," Ron said quietly. Harry looked up from the book he'd been reading as Ron joined him in the library.
"Hmm?"
"Hermione. Katie reached out to Hermione and Hermione… she didn't immediately say no. She feels utterly stupid now of course but… she thought about it, Harry."
"I thought there was something, when we were in Hogsmeade," Harry admitted. "But I wasn't sure. At least she didn't join them, right?"
Ron rubbed his face tiredly. "I don't… I understand why she's so unsure about your marriage, I really do. At first I thought—well, it doesn't matter what I thought then. You've been happier since the wedding, more so in the last month or so. I just… she's one of your best friends and she considered going against you and—"
"Hey," Harry interrupted. "She considered it, but she didn't do it. I, when I agreed to marry Tom, I guess I accepted the possibility of losing you guys. I'm glad that you accepted it, but… I don't blame Hermione for the way she feels. He killed a lot of muggles and destroyed the lives of even more. I'm not fooling myself on what he's done, Ron. I know who he was, who he is."
Ron nodded slowly. "I know. And I decided, when you told me about it, that my friendship with you is worth more than my hatred of him. Why couldn't she do the same thing?"
Harry shook his head. "Only Hermione can answer that but… don't be too hard on her, okay? I get it, even if I don't like it."
"I… okay. Okay."
Smiling, Harry nodded at the stack of parchment beside him. "You wanna stick around and do homework?"
"I figured you'd be heading home soon," Ron replied, his lips tilting up slightly. The smile was sad in a way that pained Harry.
He shrugged. "I can stick around for a bit. I'll even give you a hand with the potions homework."
Ron grinned, happier this time. It wasn't perfect, but it was something.
Harry made a mental note to make more effort with Ron; he was one of the few things Harry never wanted to lose.
