Ruby looked at her schedule. This is it, she thought. She sighed as she put the paper in her pocket and went into the English classroom. She looked around, seeing only a few students sitting in their chairs and a teacher seemingly dosing off as he looked at some of the papers he had on his desk. Ruby strolled over to him.

"Hi, I'm Ruby." She said to him. He looked up from his papers, his eyes looking slightly dazed until he realized whom she was.

He shuffled his papers, forcing a smile, "Yes, Ruby. I'm Mr. Ignis." He stuck out a hand for Ruby to shake (she didn't), "I was expecting you." Ruby nodded, raising both of her eyebrows as she did so. She really wasn't in the mood to talk to this shithead. Mr. Ignis sighed, "Anyways, you can sit over there." He pointed right out in front of him, "There's a free seat you can sit in." Ruby turned to look in the direction he was pointing. There was a girl there, looking at the door. It looked to Ruby like she wanted to get out of here. Better not bother her, I guess, Ruby thought to herself. Ruby walked over to the desk and sat down, letting out a sigh as she did so. She looked back at the girl and, to her surprise, the girl was peering at her. Her bangs fell off her face to reveal two big blue eyes. An inquisitive expression was on her face, her full lips lightly parted. Ruby smiled, Maybe she wants to talk.

Trying to be friendly, Ruby complimented the girl, "You have very pretty eyes." She added, "I'm Ruby."

The girl looked at her with suspicion for a moment, but then responded lightly, "Hello… I'm Sapphire." Trying to look casual, Ruby leaned back in her chair and draped her arms around the back of her seat.

"That's a very pretty name." As soon as Ruby said it, she realized she had repeated herself, causing her to face-palm herself and stammer, "I mean, uh… Oh, man," She groaned, "I can't believe I used "very pretty" twice!" Sapphire began to giggle, hiding her laughter by gently covering her smile with her hand.

"Your diction isn't too broad, is it?" she joked, an impish look on her face. Ruby let out some nervous laughter. Great, now she thinks you're a loser.

Ruby rubbed the back of her head shyly and replied, "I guess not." Ruby expected that to be the end of the conversation, but Sapphire instead turned herself around so that she faced Ruby.

She asked, "Are you a new student?"

Ruby shook her head and answered, "No, I just transferred to this class." She looked away, feeling suddenly embarrassed and uncomfortable. She hoped that Sapphire wouldn't press for more details. Instead, Sapphire just nodded. "Anyways," Ruby said timidly, "I hope this class will be better."

"It's okay." Sapphire said with a shrug. She lightly laughed, "Pretty boring, to be honest." Ruby laughed with her, feeling giddy. She's so cute, she gushed to herself.

The bell rang suddenly and the rest of the class piled in, sitting down at their desks. Sapphire whirred around too, becoming rigid almost instantaneously. Just a minute ago, she was so carefree, but now she was stiff. She must take school really seriously, Ruby guessed.
