That night, C.C. and Lelouch stayed in his shed. It was then that they realised there was only one bed. C.C. immidietly bounced into it and snuggled under the covers, smirking.
"A gentleman would sleep on the floor"
"Of course." Lelouch half smiled. He took his place and sighed.
"Are you still moping?"
"I wouldn't call it 'moping', C.C."
"Well I would and I'm sick of it. Why are you moping?" C.C. dangled off the bed.
"Well you would mope too if you've done what I have."
"Maybe I have. You don't know everything I've been through. But then you get on with it and stop being annoying." C.C. said with a teasing smirk.
"Oh yeah, forgot about that whole immortal thing." Lelouch lay back
"Well you might need to get used to it. You have that whole immortal thing now"
"Well, what about the girls? They'll never see me in the same way again. What if I scarred them? What if they can't trust again?"
"From what you've told me of those girls, they'll bounce back. In the meantime, I need to sleep so we can get back to work tomorrow. So if you could stop moping that would be great." C.C. straightened herself and turned to face the wall.
"Right. See you in the morning." Lelouch used his jacket as a pillow
Lelouch didn't sleep well that night. He kept thinking about the girls no matter how hard he tried not to. What was he going to do? As much as he wanted to go home, he would miss them and dimension travel wasn't just a daily activity. Constant exposure could lead to disastrous consequences, even for an immortal. Lelouch knew that from Suzaku's explanations for why the Knightmares were so beat up in the first place. How Lelouch made it through only sustaining the stabbing injury was beyond him. In the morning, when C.C. 'woke him up' she looked at him, unamused.
"You realise you're going to be useless in that state." She raised an eyebrow
"What state?"
"You didn't sleep last night, Lelouch. You have bags under your eyes and you look awful."
"Thanks for pointing that out." Lelouch grimaced. C.C. sat down on the floor next to him and folded her arms. Lelouch pushed himself off the floor and dusted himself off.
"Let's just go." He muttered. C.C. grabbed his hand and shook her head
"Not before you get some closure. Come on. We're going to see those girls."
"What good will that do?"
"If it makes you stop moping I'm willing to try anything."
"I told you I'm not moping."
"Whatever you say, Lelouch." C.C. smirked as she pulled him out of the shed and set off for the park, hoping that at least one of the girls would be there.
To his luck, three of them were there. Serena, Amy and Rei. He called out and the three whirled around and cautiously approached him.
"Hey you don't have to look so scared. I'm done with... All that." Lelouch told them. They looked doubtful. "Look. I wanted, needed to clear the air with you guys. I'm gonna be going home soon and I really don't want to leave you girls on a bad note. I care about you all a lot. You've helped me so much. I had no memories to comfort me when I was sleeping in that cold shed but I knew that I had people to fall back on, to help me through who apparently weren't gonna exploit me. You could have told me that you were my sister and I was getting married to another one of you in a week and I would probably believe it. You looked after me at my most vunerable. Thank you." Lelouch bowed his head. Rei stepped forward hesitantly. She put a hand on his shoulder before drawing him in for a hug.
"It's okay, L. We're gald you're okay it's just..." She drew away "Hard to digest."
"I get it. I really do. It's just that we'll be leaving soon and I didn't want to have any regrets in this dimension."
"Well we should be leaving anyway. Our power sources need a bit of a kickstart and we're trying to find a way to do that-"
"-Since I'm not letting her steal a car." Lelouch interjected, almost playfully. C.C. smirked in response. Serena rrisked a small giggle which made Lelouch smile.
"W-Well. If you're leaving soon. We should spend some time together! Get some pictures! If you think you're gonna run away and forget us you're wrong!" She spoke with determination. Lelouch beamed at her.
"I'd really like that." He spoke quietly.
"Come on then! If you don't mind, C.C." Amy spoke. C.C. raised a hand and shook her head with a smile.
"We might try and find you all later but I'll leave you to it. We need to find a kickstarter."
"We might be able to help with that too." Amy said quickly. C.C. perked up, interested. "You see, Lita demonstrated her power when you... um... anyway, all of us have a power like that, Perhaps one could be useful?" She suggested. Lelouch and C.C. looked thoughtful at the idea.
"Speaking of which, could you explain that to me at some point?" Lelouch asked. Serena giggled and nodded, grabbing his wrist and pulling him along, followed by the other girls.
"See you later, C.C!" Lelouch called. C.C. smiled and waved after them before turning around to go and help the others.
Okay. This fanfic is not over yet. We're almost there though peeps! I reckon a couple of chapters until our buddies head home unless I add in a battle. I'm considering it however I've lost steam on this story a bit (don't know if my update schedule or lack thereof gave you that idea) so I would like to wrap it up soon so I can post other stories without feeling guilty. Anyhow thanks for reading! I seriously cannot believe that people have read and enjoyed this story and that means more to me than you can ever imagine. So yeah, thank you so much!
