DH AN: Here's a Revolutionshipping drabble I did for a Secret Santa. I hope you like this while I attempt to get my Marik writing brain to stop wallowing in the gigantic pool of angst that is my current project. And I'm sorry the prompt is rather predictable. (I was listening to a few waltzes as well as "The Best Things Happen While You're Dancing" from White Christmas- The waltz I mention here and Anthony Hopkins' "And the Waltz Goes On" are lovely.)
The Prompt is "And this song of mine in three-quarter time wishes you and yours the same thing too."
Time Signature
When he had first walked into that studio room, he was thankful that Yugi had switched with him at home rather than at their destination like last time. He was never fond of surprises. Or at least last minute ones.
Anzu had been over two days ago and everything seemed fine but both he and Yugi knew that something was the matter.
She heaved a sigh and he took a seat on the couch next to her
"My demonstration partner for the tango flaked out on me yesterday and I'm pretty sure he won't be back to assist with the waltz this weekend. Something about a girl."
"I'll help you, Anzu."
"You don't have to."
"I want to." He smiled. "I rarely get to see you dance in the right areas for it. You always watch me show my expertise."
Anzu's blush conveyed all the gratitude in the world. She hastily reached for a pen as she scribbled down the address to the studio. "Be there by 4 PM on Saturday." She blinked, quickly backtracking a bit. "But meet me tonight at 7 PM, just so I can help you get a basic idea."
He nodded. "Sounds good. See you later then."
He steps further into the room as ten pairs of curious eyes follow his every move. Yami stifles a laugh as a few nudge each other or give voiceless Wows. It's not every day that the King of Games walks into your ballroom dancing class.
The opening notes of Shostakovich's "Second Waltz" filter through the ceiling speakers as soon as Anzu presses the remote to start the music.
One Two Three One Two Three One Two Three. He steadily counts time in his head as the waltz starts, and is quite thankful the basic rhythm remains throughout.
The pace is natural and he quickly glances to see that even those seated seem to sway in the correct time.
That was assessed by mere periodic glances as she twirls around him. Anzu is skilled enough to give the illusion that he's doing the leading. Back, back, left, forward, twirl to the right and then spinning into a reversal of positioning, his back now to the mirrored wall and hers towards the door.
This goes on for two repetitions and they stay in a small area of the floor but are never still. He acts quickly to take the lead and twirls her swiftly, and dips her gently; as she was a bit miffed that she didn't get to do that with the axed tango demonstration.
And the waltz goes on. The natural feeling of the sway, the soft flow of the music and the steps. Never a misstep between them. The heat rushes to her face and makes the blue of her eyes stand out more and he's never seen her more beautiful. The music tapers off and for five seconds more they still dance until ten sets of applause break them from it. The huge smile on Anzu's face- that makes the two and a half hours spent stepping on her feet the whole time two days prior worth it.
DH: And there you have it. Next update will likely be a Oneshot back into my AU/AT/ Whatever- still have no clue what that falls under. Thank you for reading and I hope y'all have a great New Year.
