The Doctor took his time in the loo, thoroughly scrubbing himself of the dirt and grime and dust from the Crucible. Bloody humans bodies were so rubbish! He actually stank. He had body odor! How rubbish!

After cleaning his teeth (mouth bacteria: rubbish!) and sonicking his suit clean (perspiration: rubbish!), he headed out to face Rose.

She was already tucked up in the hotel bed, but the corners of the opposite side were pulled down, inviting him to join her. He swallowed, his mouth suddenly dry, and slowly ambled up to her.

She was curled up on her side, facing the empty spot of the bed that he would soon occupy. She looked so beautiful and relaxed that his human heart seemed to stutter before starting up again, beating double-time. There was a pleasant warmth in his chest as love and adoration overloaded his system.

"Rose?" he whispered, wondering if she'd already fallen asleep.

Her eyes blearily blinked open, and a sleepy smile crossed her lips. His breath seemed to catch in his throat. She patted the bed in invitation.

"Are you sure you're okay with this?"

"'Course," she mumbled, patting the mattress again.

But then her eyes popped open.

"You're not sleeping in your suit, are you?"

The Doctor blinked.

"Uhmm, yes?"

Rose rolled her eyes good-naturedly and said, "That can't be comfy. Have you got pants on?"

He nodded.

"Well go on, then," she ordered. "Strip. S'nothing I haven't seen before."

The Doctor flushed crimson, cursing his body for its lack of control (though he'd rather lose control with Rose in many, many ways, none of which were appropriate at the moment…)

Swallowing thickly, the Doctor gingerly removed his trousers and suit jacket, leaving him in boxers and a shirt. He crawled in beside Rose, who was clad only in knickers and a vest top. She curled up beside him instantly, resting her head on his new human heart and wrapping her arm around his middle.

"Are you sure you're okay with this?" he whispered. "It's not weird or awkward or uncomfortable or…"

Rose raised her head to look at him, her eyebrow cocked in surprise and confusion.

"Uhmm, no?" she asked, puzzled. "Should it be?"

The Doctor finally relaxed in her embrace and nuzzled the top of her head. Rose hummed in approval and she nestled in closer to him. Contentment and security settled over him as he hugged her closer.

He was just about to drift off to sleep when he heard her murmur, "Love you."

Maybe being human wasn't so rubbish after all.
