Warmth

She was so close. And so warm.

Yato looked down at Hiyori, who was now fast asleep with her head laying on his shoulder and against his neck.

He'd asked her a million times over the past week to rent this movie for him since Kofuku's place didn't have a TV and she'd finally gone through with it. She'd been enjoying it at first, even making popcorn for the two of them to share, but the longer the movie went on the more he started to notice her dozing off. He asked her multiple times if she was tired and if they should watch it later, but she kept waving him off and telling him that she was fine.

But there she was, snoozing peacefully. And he had all but forgotten about the movie.

A blush creeping across his cheeks, he called out softly, "Hi-Hiyori."

"Mmm?" She hummed, blinking her eyes open sleepily before catching sight of him. "Yato." She called his name as well, smiling as she lifted her head enough to press her cheek against his before closing her eyes again.

His breath caught in his throat as his mind repeatedly reminded him of how closer her lips were to his, if he were only to just turn his head. But he wouldn't do that; he wouldn't take advantage of Hiyori.

Still, he couldn't believe how straightforward she was when she was sleepy.

Yato closed his eyes and enjoyed the warmth of her skin pressed against his, not having the heart to try and wake her up again just yet. It was selfish, but he didn't know if he would ever get an opportunity like this ever again.

After a few moments had passed by, he decided it was time to return to reality. "Hiyori. Hiyori." He shook her shoulders lightly, making sure to angle his body farther away from her so that she wouldn't be mad when she woke up.

Hiyori started to slide further down the couch because of Yato's movement, squeezing her eyes closed tighter as she did so and letting out a small groan.

"C'mon, Hiyori. Wake up." Yato managed to stop her from sliding, but his awkward position was quickly becoming painful.

She finally blinked her eyes open again, giving him a confused look before immediately sliding backwards to put space between them, "Yato, what were you doing?"

"You fell asleep on me." He exhaled, straightening out his back and leaning back onto the couch.

Her face started to turn pink, "I-I'm sorry! I didn't think I was that tired." He was about to respond before she continued quietly, "I guess I got too comfortable because you were so warm—" Hiyori covered up her mouth, the regret clear on her face.

Yato blinked in surprise before his lips curved upward into a smirk, "Wow, Hiyori. You're really dropping a lot of hints today."

"What—what do you mean?" Her eyes widened in confusion, her face continuing to darken.

Leaning over and putting his weight onto his hands, he hovered close to Hiyori and commented in a smug tone, "You were really warm too."

She jumped off the couch before sharply elbowing his side, "D-don't make it weird!"

"Owwwww." Yato collapsed down onto the couch and rubbed the spot where she had hit him, whining.

"Isn't it about time for you to go home for the night?" She plucked the popcorn bowl off the table and started heading towards the kitchen.

He peeked his head over the top of the couch, watching her as she walked, "Can't you give me a massage first? That really hurt."

"You can ask Yukine, but I doubt he'll do it either." Hiyori answered without bothering to look back.

"Maybe a kiss to make it feel better?" He called out loudly after she had disappeared out of view. Hearing the sound of the bowl clattering against the kitchen floor in response, he snickered to himself.

She screeched, "Yato, go home!"

"Goodniiiight, Hiyori!" He let out another laugh before teleporting back to Kofuku's.
