Read and review if you like :3

"How is it like to know that… you have eternity ahead of you?"

"Huh?"

Yato turned to see Hiyori with her eyes fixed somewhere outside the window.

Snow was falling gently in the courtyard of Kofuku's place and everything was silent, as the goddess of poverty and Daikoku had brought Yukine to buy some new clothes (much to the young boy's dismay).

Only Yato and Hiyori were left to guard the house.

The girl turned to him and Yato swallowed at the intense spark in her eyes.

"W-what are you talking about?"

"Well… I don't have forever. So I was wondering what it feels like"

Yato blinked.

I don't have forever.

That was right. Hiyori wasn't immortal like him or Yukine or the others.

She would die one day.

He didn't like to think about it but deep down he knew that time would come.

It was too painful to think about the fact that she would leave him one day.

By now he couldn't bear the thought of not having her in his life.

She was too precious to him.

"I… why are you asking me that?" he managed to ask.

She raised a brow at him "Because normal people constantly think unlike someone I know"

He didn't even feel like spitting something back.

Hiyori noticed something was off and tilted her head to the side.

"Yato? Are you-"

"I'm not so sure anymore" he blurted out.

"Mh?"

He shifted, not meeting her gaze.

"I… you know when you have eternity ahead of you but no one to share it with… it doesn't really matter" damn he was getting emotional "But now I'm starting to think that it would just be better if I died just like you do"

"Yato…" Hiyori's voice was soft and she said his name with so softly that it almost hurt phisically.

"I know it's silly" he said looking up at her through his eyelashes.

She was staring at him, a small smile pulling at her lips.

"I don't think so, Yato" she said "Anyway you shouldn't think about the fact that I'm going to age and die one day"

"But-"

Hiyori inched closer and the words died in his throat.

She reached out and pulled him to her, one arm gripping his shoulder and her other hand in his hair.

Yato felt himself heat up but buried his face in the crook of her neck.

"Yato" she whispered in his ear "I'm sorry my question hurt you. I was just curious, that's all. But listen to me, even if I die, that doesn't mean your life has got to stop. You have forever to make people's lifes better, to behave like the god of fortune you were born to be"

"Hiyori…"

His voice was cracking for the tears he was trying to hold in.

Her fingers kept twirling his hair and he tightened his grip around her.

"Don't be sad. Please… It's part of the circle of life. People die, that's not a big deal"

He didn't know what to say, so he just closed his eyes and took a deep breath, her so familiar smell filling his nostrils.

Hiyori's fingers slipped down to his face and cupped his cheeks.

"Even if I age, I'll remember my promise. I'll never forget you"

She closed her eyes and leaned in till her forehead touched his.

"You have to treasure the moments we share as long as I'm here. And when I'm gone, you'll have to do the same thing for me, okay?"

"What same thing?" he asked looking at her.

"Don't forget me"

Yato bit his lip.

He wanted to make time stop, to keep her with him forever, to never let go of her.

Damn, when had he become so sentimental and clingy?

Where was the God of Calamity he used to be?

Oh, right.

Hiyori had turned him into a God of Fortune.

He looked at her. Her smile was warm, her brown eyes sparkling.

Well, he couldn't dissapoint her now, could he?

"Of course I won't forget you, idiot"
