Chapter 94

"We're almost there!" Miyuki said running beside Naruto as he carried Idate on his back.

Idate looked at Naruto then shifted his gaze at Miyuki.

"Hey," Idate spoke up. "Just one thing."

"Huh?" The duo said as they continued climbing the stairs.

" I appreciate the help, but don't think this is going to make me trust you or anything." Idate said

"Yeah, yeah whatever as if I cared." Naruto said in between pants.

"Still….it wouldn't kill you to be a little nicer to us...even if you don't trust us... I trust you." Miyuki said

"Huh? Why?" Idate asked raising an eyebrow at her.

"Because Jirocho trusts you." Miyuki simply said. "If he puts his trust in you to win this, then that's enough of a reason for me to trust you."

Idate stared at her for a second at her choice of words then scoffed, Miyuki let out a sigh. 'Still got a ways to go…' she thought

After a minute Idate told Naruto and Miyuki of his experience three years ago in the chunnin exams, he glanced at the gennin.

"So what was the question he hit you guys with?" Idate asked

Naruto was in deep thought while Miyuki tilted her head at Idate.

"It's kinda hard to explain." Naruto said, "It was complicated , he explained it at the time but I really didn't get it."

'Oh Naru…' Miyuki thought.

"That last question...It was a choice." Miyuki explained, "We were free to make the choice of staying or leaving...basically it was to test us as a team, trusting each other to make the right choice."

"Trust? I trusted my brother and he failed me, I trusted him and it ruined my life forever." Idate said anger coursed through him. "The least I could do was get him to explain himself."

Idate continued telling Naruto and Miyuki his side of the story.

"And that's when Aoi came along and tricked you, right?" Naruto said

"That's right...that's what he did." Idate said

Each step they took, echoes of cheers could be heard until they finally reached the top.

"Unbelievable! We made it!" Naruto gasped stumbling over, Miyuki panted dropping to her knees.

' Note to self….next time Gai sensei and Lee asks you to run with them...for extra training...do it...' Miyuki thought

"Right, I'll take it the rest of the way." Idate said filled with determination. " You two can take a break if you want."

"No way!" Miyuki exclaimed.

"Oh, now you don't need us anymore?!" Naruto snapped at him.

"I have to do this, I can't have you guys running the whole race for me." Idate replied. " I have to win with my own two feet or else I haven't won."

"At least take this with you, it should help." Miyuki said taking out of her pocket a small cream-colored medicine bottle, taking out what looked like small round pills.

"Food pills?" Idate said

"Take it for that extra boost you need." Miyuki said as she popped one of the food pills in her mouth, she handed one to Naruto then looked at Idate holding out the last one. "You want to win right?"

Idate looked at the young Kunoichi, his lips faintly moved to a small faint smile at her. He took the pill and ran off.

"Hey wait!" Naruto shouted

'I can do this! That Medicine Miyuki gave me is working!' Idate thought running towards the Shrine, a sharp stabbing pain shot up his right leg. He scrunched his face and pushed passed it.

"No...no pain." He said very softly, reaching the center of the shrine seeing the round sphere, Idate reached in and grabbed it. "Here we go...i'm back in the race!" He shouted, running towards the next path.

Miyuki looked at Naruto as he took the food pill, both gennin ran trying to catch up to Idate. The path that Idate had to take was by a field of wildflowers, Miyuki glanced at those while running she stumbled slightly stopping in her tracks while Naruto ran ahead.

'Definitely need more training…' Miyuki thought she glanced at the wildflowers. 'I wonder how's he doing?'

Gaara stared at the cactus in his room the shopkeeper had told him that in a few weeks the flower will bloom, the reason why he bought it in the first place is that reminded him of the first cactus flower he saw with Miyuki, her smile lit up at seeing the flower open its petals, her eyes twinkling at the other flowers during their mission together. He was even more surprised when they parted to their respective villages she handed him a small envelope with clear instructions to read it at home. He had told his siblings what he was feeling from the past events he had with Miyuki.

Temari and Kankuro tried their best to explain the differences between love and friendship to their little brother, who started developing such emotions.

From what Temari explained is that In friendship, there is no attraction you see each other share some laughs and spend time together, sometimes you do think about that person without any deep attraction to one another. Whereas in love, there is, When you're in love, you want to make plans with each other, spend time together and that person is always on your mind. Gaara opened the envelope on his desk and read it.

Dear Gaara,

I wrote this letter to invite you to come and celebrate my birthday in one month, Temari and Kankuro are invited too, the more the merrier! If you do come a few days earlier I'd love to show you around the village, maybe have some dango or ramen together.

From Miyuki

"Her...birthday? She wants me to see her on her birthday?" Gaara muttered

He felt his emotions swell into his chest reading the letter again. 'This feeling...i don't know what to describe it yet...but it feels nice.' Gaara thought to himself.

He went to his siblings sharing the news of the invitation to the Kunoichi's birthday.

"A party huh?" Temari said reading over the letter. "Might be nice going there."

"Do we have to bring presents?" Kankuro asked trying to read the letter over Temari's shoulder.

"It's a birthday of course we should, not bringing something would be rude. " Temari said in a serious tone. "We could bring something maybe some candy, during the exams I'd see that girl eat sweets maybe some of our local candy."

"A present …" Gaara spoke up to his siblings. "What should I give her?"

Temari and Kankuro glanced at each other until the brother spoke.

"It can be anything, toys, makeup, flowers." Kankuro explained, " Things that girls like."

"What about that necklace you bought in the clothing store?" Temari chimed in. "You can give her that."

Gaara nodded as he went back to his room, going to his drawer taking out the teardrop empty bottle necklace, he picked it out thinking of the leaf ninja girl.

'Miyuki...' He thought staring at the necklace.

Sometime later he went to the flower shop, he told his dilemma to Akane the owner of the shop.

"She invited you to celebrate her birthday? that's wonderful." Akane said smiling softly.

"Temari and Kankuro are looking for birthday gifts for her." Gaara said

"Do you have a gift for her?" Akane asked

"I have something but I'm not sure," Gaara admitted. "I never did these types of things before, so I don't know if she'll like it."

"You won't know unless you give it to her," Akane said sensing Gaara's uneasiness, the old woman smiled. "Don't worry, It's a gift that you picked out thinking of her, it will be something that she'll treasure because her friend gave it to her."

"Now I'll make sure to get rid of you." Aoi said with an evil grin gripping the lighting sword inches away from Idate's face, Miyuki caught up she saw Naruto with needles on both his legs, unable to move Miyuki stepped in to face him until back up would arrive.

"I won't let you!" Miyuki said taking out her sword. "Fall of the winter flower form one!"

Before he could even strike at the young boy, he swiftly moved his sword, blocking the kunoichi's attack.

"Interesting...coating your sword in ice." Aoi said slightly impressed. "But the blade of thunder spirit can cut through anything."

"We'll see about that!" Miyuki barked gripping her sword trying to land a strike at Aoi.

Both Ninja deflected each attack only the sound of the sword clashing on it could be heard, at the last hit Aoi grinned as the thunder sword sparked at Miyuki's sword shocking the girl. She let out a painful shout feeling the electrical current through her body causing parts of her clothes being burned out, Aoi took this chance and slashed the girl the force of it knocked her back.

"Your little sword stunt wasn't a match against this blade." Aoi gloated.

"So what? just cause you've got a fancy toy isn't going to stop me!" Miyuki snapped.

"Oh really?" Aoi said pointing the blade in her direction.

Miyuki held her sword. 'Any weapon has a weak point, I have to find that one….its the thunder blade since it's lightning base..my water jutsu's are useless to it.' She thought trying to analyze her opponent. ' I can try ice or wind style..'

"Maybe I should get rid of you first." Aoi declared. "You're annoying me with that glare of yours."

"No! Miyuki run!" Idate yelled out as Aoi's eyes shifted at the boy at his reaction.

"Don't tell me you like this girl?" Aoi questioned raising an eyebrow at him, he then let out a dry laugh. "But that can't be, because for you to like someone you have to put your trust in them. You've never trusted anyone and nobody trusts you."

"Just shut up!" Miyuki spoke up glaring at Aoi. "There is someone that trusts Idate! That person trusts him and I do too, even if he is a little moody I trust him." Idate looked at Miyuki his mouth open by her choice of words.

"Stay quiet you foolish girl!" Aoi said as he swung his sword at her.

"Miyuki!" Naruto and Idate shouted.

At the last Second Aoi moved his blade deflecting the Kunai knives the girl took that chance to run back to Idate taking a protective stance, Aoi glared at the two new genin joining the fight.

"Guys! Excellent timing!" Naruto grinned

"Idate! Miyuki!" Sakura said she gasped staring at their injuries.

"You two just sit back and leave this clown to me." Sasuke said his eyes shifted slightly at Miyuki, seeing her kimono torn revealing the Ninja mesh armor she has underneath a clear sign that the fight got to her, the Uchiha glared angrily at Aoi.

"This clown is tougher than you think." Naruto said smirking.

"He did a number on us." Miyuki said "But now with you and Sakura here we have a chance."

"It doesn't matter how many of you are." Aoi boldly stated holding the blade. " I am Aoi of the rain and I wield the blade of the thunder spirit."

"Is that so?" Sasuke cooly said as he activated his Sharingan. " Perfect, the blade of the thunder spirit against my Chidori."

'He's not think off..' before Miyuki could finish what she was thinking she saw the Uchiha use his Chidori Aoi blocked the attack with the blade. 'It didn't work...there has to be something..but what?' The young kunoichi thought, Miyuki didn't hear the two clearly but could tell that Sasuke is mad at whatever Aoi had said, he knocked the gennin back shocking him with the blade, the boy gasped at the painful shocks he received, trying not to pass out.

"You guys should run! He'll show no mercy!" Idate yelled out.

"We're not running! " Sakura said holding her kunai knife. "We have sworn to protect you Idate, you can trust us."

"She's right." Miyuki said gripping her sword. "That's our duty."

"Back to the matter at hand." Aoi glanced at Miyuki and Idate, the kunoichi held her sword. "How cute...now it's time for you to die."

"Take back what you said." Sasuke groaned standing up.

"Huh? What are you talking about?" Aoi asked already irritated.

"I'm warning you..Don't mess with me!" Sasuka angrily yelled out using his chidori again. "I'm Sasuke of the leaf village, the last of the Uchiha!"

With that the young Uchiha attacked striking Aoi he blocked it once again with the blade, the force of the two lighting shined bright blinding them for a few seconds, it made a small faint crack in the blade as the light died down. The group heard a blood-curdling scream seeing Sasuke in the air by the thunder blade, being shocked once again until he passed out, Aoi tossed him by the bridge's steps. Sakura gasped running towards the injured Uchiha, she tried to get Sasuke to wake up being in the middle of the bridge.

Miyuki used that chance and charges at Aoi, her sword in one hand and slashes at her opponent, Aoi saw it and was prepared to dodge it. Miyuki dropped the sword tossing it to the other side catching the rain ninja by surprise, the sword being caught by her other hand and to genuinely slashed him. The classic feint attack.

"You brat!" Aoi yelled out a scar was visible across his chest blood dripped off. "Say goodbye to your friends!" He threw shurikens at the rope holding the bridge, Sakura held onto the unconscious Uchiha as they were dropped.

"Sasuke! Sakura!" Miyuki shouted running at the edge of the cliff. "I can't see them!"

"Don't worry you'll join them soon." Aoi said catching her off guard pushing her off the cliff.

"Miyuki!" Naruto shouted
