Life 3: Nuns May Cry, Heroes Do Not

Part 1

"Link, I got him tied up, hard. He won't be going anywhere."

The blonde boy that was addressed by the female exorcist as Link, nodded his head, glancing at what remained of an abandoned four-story building, former hideout of the stray exorcist Solomon Bertello. Many followers laid unconscious in the surroundings.

Their informant, a short man called Jean, was already contacting the Church's forces to take care of the scene. Link folded his arms and sighed, knowing well how these renegades would be dealt with so they won't bring harm to anyone ever again.

Their memories were erased and replaced with those that would only encourage them to do good deeds. Many already did community services in many countries in Europe, helping poor people and spreading the teachings of God.

Link couldn't agree with that despite that it made the stray exorcists persons of goodwill. To manipulate them like dolls was undeniably wrong. However, as a newcomer inside the Catholic Church's ranks, Link had no standing or voice in the matters concerning their traditions and protocols.

He would have to abide by their regulations for now.

He looked at his partner, Xenovia Quarta. The bluehead, currently sporting her church battle attire, stood up from her kneeling position, cleaving the end of her sword on the ground. Link had to note how easily she accomplished such a deed, considering that the ground was solid cement.

However, another thing called his attention, namely, her sword.

Large enough to be two-handed sword, its grip was as long, with a cross in the pommel. The guard was unique as it resembled an axe, with a second grip over it, which seemed to have a chain-like form, it connecting the guard with the blade that had three points by the end.

It was too long for Xenovia to use in his opinion, but she was a Natural-born Holy Sword Wielder for a reason, and such allowed her to wield any holy sword, despite its weight and size. Not to mention that she was trained to be an exorcist since she was a mere child, so her stamina and physical capabilities were greater than those of normal humans.

Granted to her for the stray exorcist hunt, the holy sword: Excalibur Destruction, which was a sword made from one of the pieces of the True Excalibur, one of the strongest holy swords forged through the means of magic and alchemy by those who reached the territory of God. It was used by an historical character called King Arthur Pendragon, the Legendary King of Camelot.

As the name describes it, this particular sword held the ability to unleash pure, destructive power, that could easily shatter anything it came in contact with. The multiples craters on the ground and the soon-to-collapse building before them were the proof of its devastating power.

Having studied a lot in the past weeks, Link learnt that only humans who hold enough light element inside their bodies are capable of using True Holy Swords. It made sense as the Master Sword could be considered a Holy Sword as well, which only the Hero chosen by the Goddesses could wield.

The fact that he could also wield Excalibur Destruction proved that he possessed enough light element to allow him to use the Holy Swords from this dimension. It was honestly obvious as he held a godly, holy relic in his left hand, the Triforce of Courage.

There were so many intricacies and lore in this world that even after one year of research, he still continued to discover new things. It was simply fascinating.

"Link?" The blonde boy blinked at Xenovia's call, "Link, spacing out again?"

He turned to her, sporting a bland expression, "Should we move to the next objective?"

Xenovia cocked an eyebrow at his odd reaction. Even if it wasn't much since the green-clad blonde joined the church, both had come to develop a mutual respect for one another, not only because he had saved her and her friends, but for the ideals they shared. While he didn't seem willing to reveal anything about his past, he had still become the one whom Xenovia had expended the most time with, and to be honest, she felt he was trustworthy.

They were partners despite that he was always trying to go on his own.

"Yeah… we should."

Part 2

Link and Xenovia arrived to the Kingdom of Spain, another sovereign state within southwestern Europe. Using an Arc, they managed to jump from Toulouse, located in the French country, to the third largest city of Spain, Valencia.

Again, Link would have loved to travel by foot instead of using the portals inside the churches, but Xenovia insisted on capturing the stray exorcists as fast as they could. He could swear this girl didn't possess the spirit of adventure.

The exorcists strolled across the ancient winding streets of the Barrio Del Carmen, Link observing the features of every structure that dated to Roman and Arabic times. He couldn't help basking with the amazing architecture.

The passing people gazed at them, some of them whispering, other speaking aloud of them without a care in the world. Xenovia couldn't understand them though, as Valencia was a bilingual city, Valencian and Spanish being its two official languages, which were both unknown to her.

Which wasn't the case for Link, as the True Language allowed him to understand them just fine. Some of the comments we sort of rude, but he chose to ignore them. He had never been interested in gaining the approval of the populace, not even in Hyrule, and he wasn't about to start now.

"Link," The young woman suddenly called, "I heard the gastronomy here in Valencia is famous. We should definitely eat Paella."

"Paella?" He snickered. She had sounded funny saying that name with her accent.

"Yeah, it's like simmered rice with seafood or meat… I think…"

He observed her with uncertainty before smiling. It wasn't like they couldn't continue tasting new dishes, in fact, it was about time they dug in some food, given that it had been several hours since their last meal.

Nodding his head, Link said, "Lead the way."

Having just left El Coso, a restaurant located in Marina Real and Beaches, the duo stared at the magnificent view that was the Mediterranean Sea, both standing in the Playa de las Arenas. Link scratched his cheek, realizing that he spent a lot of Euros, which was the currency in most countries within the European Union.

"I think I haven't asked you this Link," Xenovia glanced at him briefly, before digging her bare feet in the hot sand playfully, "Why do you have so much money if you aren't from this world?"

Link made a humming sound, thinking his answer carefully. It could be said that he was lucky, as the currency of Hyrule, the Rupees, were considered in this world as very valuable gems. Unlike the rupees used Indonesia, India and other countries of this world, Link's rupees could be sold as gems of high value, which he did to his heart's content.

He had to grudgingly thank the Great Red for granting him the wisdom of currency and transactions within that dump of information he forcefully gave him. Link had yet to agree to using a card for good, as he had broken two of them despite that he obtained the knowledge to make use of them. He swore he wasn't good with this technology.

Irina, another exorcist, had to help him every time he wanted to retrieve money from his account, which the aforementioned girl helped him get. That girl was really helpful unlike Miakis and Xenovia.

He merely spied at the bluehead, "Hmm… it seems that the currency of my world is worth a lot in this one," Folding his arms, he smiled wryly. "I could say that I am rather wealthy now."

She deadpanned, before letting a smile crawl into her face.

"Some people are lucky. I only carry enough money to buy food during my missions. The church can be stinky sometimes…" She gasped in surprise, "Oh god, I'm so sorry for saying something like that! God, be merciful with me! I'm a sinner!"

Link sweat-dropped, choosing to just ignore her ridiculous outburst, "…I recall you spent all your money on a figurine even before we departed to Asgard long ago," He pointed out, "If you distributed your money wisely, you probably would not have that problem."

Xenovia folded her arms and glared at him, "Why're you sounding like Griselda? I've enough with her reprimanding me back at the church. I don't need that here."

He smirked and spun around, "Anyhow, let us make haste."

She sighed as Link walked away. Seeing his retreating back, and with a nod of her head, she put her boots back on and followed after him.

Part 3

"This is it. An abandoned church…"

Link narrowed his gaze at Xenovia's comment, his wariness fleetingly skyrocketing. Everything about the seemingly empty church screamed danger, its broken window showing nothing but darkness, hiding an unseen danger within the gloom.

'An abandoned church…huh… Figures…'

Even if he were to ignore the creepy unsettling drawings, painted randomly in the tombstones around the solitary structure, he'd still say that this area reeked of malice. The smell of blood invaded their nostrils without further warning, their slow steps echoed alongside the winds of the coming night. The oppressive atmosphere became almost foul, yet the two armed warriors weren't deterred and continued to move onward.

Whatever the reason that brought this sensation upon them, Link could affirm it was dangerous.

"Let us scout the area, Xenovia," Link commanded, trained eyes scanning his surroundings. "I will take left. Do not enter the church alone no matter what you uncover. I suspect we are about to face more than just stray exorcists."

She raised a thumbs up in confirmation, and moved swiftly towards the right side of the building. Link advanced as well, carefully searching for any clues along the way. They were in the Angeles Cemetery, having tracked multiple demonic marks within the city, ultimately leading their hunt to this god-forsaken place.

The abandoned structure was apparently the hideout of the stray exorcist, Antonio Rosales, or that much was what their investigation had led them to conclude.

Link tensed slightly, a feeling of dread building up inside him, which meant in his book that real problems were about to come. He had to tread lightly, muscles at the ready for a future confrontation.

Upon arrival at the back of the church, his suspicions were confirmed. His tension increased exponentially as Link scrutinized the massacre before him. There were multiple impaled and naked bodies across the backyard, deep and disgusting wounds displaying the ferocity of their attacker.

Many heads hung from the old and lifeless trees, tied in the tall, brown branches as if to give a warning to any trespasser.

The warrior narrowed his gaze, cautiously advancing. The wind echoed eerily, the sunset was long gone, now darkness enveloping the area. He couldn't tell yet if the corpses belonged to innocent people or to the followers of the stray exorcist themselves.

At least, not yet.

Link walked to the back door of the old building, which stood in a composed way despite the bloody field before it, as if it had chosen solitude for itself, residents no longer welcomed.

Some hurried steps called Link's attention, Xenovia running up to him from the other side. She briefly stopped to gaze in horror at the dreadful scenery before she shook her head, focus regained, and walked towards him with a grim expression.

"Link, what's going on?" She asked, her tone conveying utter worry.

The blonde put a hand on her shoulder, "We are about to find out, stay alert." And with those words, he approached the time-worn, wooden door.

He slowly pushed it, the creaking of rotten wood echoing. A small room came into view, illuminated by a strangely lit chandelier. Link observed closely every inch of the empty space, his mind considering the implications of a kept fire within the apparent abandoned structure. The nature had invaded the old structure, grass expanding across the cracks on the ground.

With nothing more of interest, they proceeded, entering a hallway. The duo advanced through the debris, their gazes sharp, their muscles tensed and ready should a surprise attack be unleashed upon them.

Link narrowed his gaze, noticing stains of blood further ahead, by a door.

He exchanged a quick glance with his partner and slowly approached it, pushing it open.

Both were greeted with a sight far more sickening than the one before. Xenovia readied her holy sword, Excalibur Destruction, sensing danger.

The Hylian narrowed his gaze, studying the bloody interior of the chapel. Corpses hung from the ceiling, drops of blood continuously hitting the ground, red puddles forming beneath each body. More corpses were impaled across the room, some headless, others twisted.

The atmosphere was repulsive.

"This is terrible," Muttered Xenovia, and Link could sense the rising ire coating her tone. "For God's sake, what happened here…?"

Link didn't have an answer for that.

Warily stepping inside, they eventually reached the center of the wide room. A sudden screech resounded in the area, the duo spinning around to gaze at the probable reason for the massacre in their surroundings.

Before them was a man, or more like, a humanoid monster, who showed two large arms protruding from his shoulders, his fanged teeth visible and covered with the blood of his victims. He wore a long, black coat that covered his entire body.

A stray devil.

"Welcome to my humble abode!" His eerie, distorted voice echoed, the sound of his steps following, "What brings you both, magnificent guests, to my modest home?"

Link scrutinized him, pulling out the Kokiri Dagger from his belt. Black short hair, pale skin and black lifeless eyes were the stray devil's defining traits. Of course, the two grotesque arms coming out from his shoulders stood out much more than anything else.

"I've never seen such type of devil…" Xenovia commented, her muscles tensing in anticipation, "Let's be careful, Link."

The green-clad exorcist stepped forward to observe the monster. No matter how it looked, those arms were most likely his main way of offense. Link also had to take into consideration that as a devil, his enemy was faster and stronger.

Though that didn't mean that it was smarter.

'Let us study its movements to see what it can do.'

"Xenovia, stay behind and watch my back," He commanded.

In the past, such an order would have only got him an absolute refusal, however, after both exorcists worked together during his short stay in the church, Xenovia had come to trust his judgment and followed any order he would issue without questioning.

She almost died during the 9th World War for refusing to follow his lead, her pride as an exorcist getting in the way. The green-clad warrior saved her life, asking nothing in return, not even expecting words of appreciation from her.

This was enough for Xenovia to realize that not only was he courageous, but was wise as the course of action he chose to take during the Norse Wars had been for the best. Now his eyes, piercing and filled with experience, observed her carefully.

"I won't let you down, Link," She responded.

With the expected reply, the blonde finally focused on his enemy.

"Where is Antonio Rosales?" Link inquired dryly, walking forward. His steps over the debris and wet, rotten wood echoed as if bones were being broken with each step.

The pale figure responded casually, raising and pointing his index to the left, "There he is… though I'm afraid that he won't be going anywhere."

There was no doubt about that statement, both exorcists concluded. The stray exorcist was there as the stray devil had revealed, but not in the way the duo had hoped to find him.

After all, Antonio Rosales was dead, as his body was cut in half, inner organs spilling down, his upper body hanging from a chain, his blood painting the wall grotesquely. His expression sported utter horror, a horrible sight to gaze at.

Xenovia was visibly taken aback, however, Link, having already seen far worse sickening sights at face value during his past adventures, only narrowed his gaze, getting ready for battle.

"Is that him?" Looking over his shoulder, Link asked sharply.

Xenovia bit her slip and nodded slowly, "Yes, he is. I suppose that our task is done… but… let's purge this sinner in the name of God and bring peace to those he slayed."

Link pointed the tip of the Kokiri Dagger towards the stray devil, blue orbs watching it's every move. The monstrous smile of the devil widened in amusement.

"Exorcists then…" The stray devil chuckled, "I assure you that small blade of yours will be your undoing should you decide to use it." Link raised his brows, not intimidated. "…you're underestimating me, pitiful human."

The monster lunged at Link, with the goal of cleaving him with its sharp claws, but the green-clad warrior parried the assault with the dagger, with one feet forward to maintain a steady balance, allowing him to resist the force behind the impact. Link determined the monster's strength with that blow and prepared for a counter attack, yet he was forced to deflect the sudden swipes that came from the arms protruding from the devil's shoulders.

It seemed he made the right call by using a short weapon that would allow him to parry fast swipes. Impa's lessons on using the Kokiri Dagger of course helped in such regard since her main choice of a weapon was a short sword.

The monster's assault was fast and relentless, yet Link managed to block every attack as he crafted a plan to counter it. The strategy turned out to be quite simple. The less limbs to make these swipes, the better. He only needed to wait for the right time.

Link continued to deflect every swipe, also giving steps back should it was required. At first, parrying every attempt of slashing at him had proved to be difficult, but it didn't take long for the hylian to get used to the speed. He could see countless openings now.

As the swipe of the left protruding arm came, Link deflected it towards the ground, forcing the stray devil to stagger forward. Taking advantage of its momentum, Link spun around while slashing the right protruding limb. A screech echoed in the chapel, black blood staining the sharp dagger as the limb fell off with a thud.

"It's impossible! You're only using a miserable dagger!" Spat the stray evil, flinching from the pain. Once more, it tried to slash at Link with its claws and the remaining protruding limb, but Link back-flipped, creating some distance.

The stray devil roared in anger, not allowing any rest to his assault, yet he found himself crashing hard on a blue wall of crystallized light, shining mystically between him and the blonde exorcist.

"Finish it, Link!" Xenovia shouted as the stray devil staggered backward from the impact.

Not wasting a single second, with a swing of his arm, Link threw the dagger towards his target, the crystal wall fading. The monster raised a clawed hand to stop it, yet, sudden golden light enveloped the blade of the weapon. The stray devil blinked in surprise as the sharp dagger pierced though its hand, and inevitably, impaled its face, blood spilling to the sides.

Link observed as the stray devil screeched, its body burning as the light element that Link added to the Kokiri Dagger began to burn the very body of the devil into ashes. Few seconds elapsed before the stray devil was completely gone for good.

He could have done this since the very start of the fight, but he had wanted to test the stray devil's capabilities in combat for future reference. He was likely to encounter more of them in the future, so he might as well learn more about them now.

The blonde swordsman turned to his partner, "Contact the church and inform them about this turn of events…" His gaze darkened, "Be specific…"

Xenovia nodded, sighing in resignation.

"Will do, Link."

In a blur, the bluehead was gone. Link gave some steps forward and knelt, picking up the Kokiri Dagger from the ground. Then he stood straight and observed once more the massacre around him before his intense blue eyes fell to the dagger on his left hand.

His grip tightened on it.

Part 4

In the outskirts of the Valencia Cathedral, Link and Xenovia awaited for the arrival of their guide in the hunt of their only remaining objective, Freed Sellzen. Apparently, the only target left in the list was hiding in a town located in the Noubi Plain, at the northwest of Aichi Prefecture, according to the Church's intel. The country was Japan.

Their guide, who was also a fellow exorcist, had apparently captured her targets and was assigned to give support to him, as she was knowledgeable about the asian island country to a great extent.

As for Link, he was somewhat familiar with Japan after exploring some districts himself when he left a certain Ruin Princess in Kuoh Town some time ago. However, circumstances weren't generous enough to allow him to continue his exploration due to some complicated priorities, namely, disappearing from the Gremory's radar in Japan as soon as possible.

Away from the Gremory's sight and grasp, Link decided to explore other countries as much as he could, also using the Gem of Hope to find some of his lost items. Worryingly enough, the gem lost its power two months ago for reasons he had yet to discover, and the Ocarina of Time had eluded him so far.

"We've been here for twenty minutes already…" Xenovia Quarta complained, tapping her foot repeatedly, her growing impatience becoming even more noticeable. Link concluded that patience wasn't within the bluehead's virtues, "I'm gonna kick Kagura's butt once she decides to show up."

The blonde Hylian cocked an eyebrow, smirking and folding his arms. He knew that Xenovia's statement was based on false assumptions as Link had witnessed beforehand the extreme strength of the girl they knew as Kagura.

Xenovia was a powerful swordsman, one who was a holy sword wielder no less, but truth be told, she wasn't strong enough to best the excessive physical capabilities of the otherworldly girl.

From what Link had learnt of her, she wasn't apparently human, or so she claimed, instead referring to herself as part of a race called Yato, brethren that came from the sky. He could remember hearing this girl saying that she was an Amanto, which was a word not even the True Language could decipher.

Xenovia, who argued with her almost on a daily basis, stated that she was an alien, a word that implied that Kagura came from another planet. Link could have taken that claim as delusions if not for the fact that he had learnt of the existence of other planets. According to the science called Astronomy, Earth was but one of millions of celestials bodies that existed across space. It was hard for him to grasp completely, and he wondered if Zelda would manage… most likely.

Link blinked, noticing that Xenovia started walking from one side to the other impatiently.

"I'm hungry already! I'm gonna make her buy me food, too… after I kick her ass of cours-"

"Really? You sure about that?"

Her voice was interrupted by another one, which both recognized. Xenovia tensed instantly as some steps echoed nearby, while Link merely turned to see the girl in question.

A rather tall girl approached, at least taller than Xenovia, with vermillion red hair, quite long. A black bun with a gold flower draw adorned the right side of her head. She wore a long white cheongsam decorated with a sky blue pattern, though the borders were red on the neck and it had no left sleeve. Instead, she used a long, black glove that covered her left arm and hand, and a short one on her right hand. A yellow sash was tied around her waist, black long stockings were almost hidden by the black boots she sported, which displayed a red top, allowing Link to notice that she indeed wore stockings.

As she approached with a dignified expression on her face, she carried with one hand a large purple umbrella that rested over her right shoulder, which Link could tell was almost as tall as herself. The blonde warrior knew that it was her choice of a weapon, which he first took as ridiculous, but he had witnessed at face value it's multiple applications. Link was once again proved to never let appearances fool him. It was without a doubt a mighty weapon that suited her fighting capabilities just fine.

Despite her stating that she only carried it because her kin was averse to sunlight, she always used it as her main offensive weapon. Not to mention that it was actually capable of firing bullets from the top, similar to those fire weapons that existed in this world and others.

'White Fang Kagura, huh…'

Link cocked an eyebrow at the sudden change of demeanor of the blue-haired exorcist, who became paler with every passing second. He had to admit that her fear wasn't unfounded.

"Haha! S-so as I was saying, Link, once K-Kagura came, I would buy food for us three… hehe…he…" Her nervousness was visible, almost palpable, and it made the redhead smirk in amusement. Turning to the source of her current fear, she said, "Oh, you were already here, Kagu-cha-"

Link sweat dropped as Xenovia was cut off when she received a slam on her head, courtesy of the Church's White Fang Kagura, the face of the holy sword wielder inevitably impacting with the ground, creating a small crater.

Kagura sighed, observing the dumb girl drily, who laid unconscious at her feet. Her gaze was lifted to the green-clad warrior who was seatedt by a bench, who remained silent as was usual. She had wondered many times if he did because he was smart, or didn't really have anything to say. Maybe both for all she knew.

Either way, she decided to overlook his silence and cleaved her large umbrella on the ground, causing the blonde to raise an eyebrow. Making a disinterested expression, she slowly walked towards him, face stoic, before sitting at his side.

"So, do you have anything to say, Link-chan?" She asked, eyes closed, not even facing him completely. After a few seconds, she opened her left eye, spying him, and as she did, he shrugged his shoulders. Kagura nodded, satisfied, "Good. Now we wait for her to wake up. So, do you want to walk around in the meanwhile?" Link turned to her and she immediately added, "It's not like I want to do it, much less with you, but now that I'm here, getting to know this cathedral could prove useful in any future endeavors."

"I assumed Lady Kagura was already familiar with the area," Responded the blonde evenly. "Didn't you use the Cathedral's Ar-?"

"I did use the Ark… that doesn't mean I know my way around this boring place," She cut him of, still refusing to look at him directly.

The otherworldly traveler, such as her, sighed. Kagura observed him quietly as he stood up and gave some steps forward before motioning his head for her to follow. Kagura smiled to herself as she skipped behind him, though slowly and silently so Link wouldn't notice.

It was a weird relationship she had with the blond with pointed ears, she had to admit. Ever since she joined the Church's ranks due to the persuasion of Griselda Quarta after meeting her in a family restaurant, she, who was once at a loss for what to do after finding herself suddenly dragged to a world not her own.

She finally found meaning to her life by offering her strength to the people that needed it, just as she did for the people of Edo, and much more for the Kabuki District back in her own world.

That's all she could do in memory of the one person she missed the most, that stupid lazy guy who called himself a samurai, as he had taught her so many things she now held as a style of life. Kagura had promised to use her strength to protect those weak for as long she remained in this unknown world.

And about the blonde…

"Where're you taking me?" Kagura asked suspiciously, making the green clad exorcist stop in his tracks, "I hope it's nothing shady or I'll kick your ass good!"

Link, whom she referred to as Link-chan, raised an eyebrow in disbelief at her inquisitive stare. She already knew that someone as kind as him wouldn't even think of pulling something like that, but he was still a man she knew very little of.

"I believe Lady Kagura said that she wanted to get familiar with this area?" She cocked a brow at his odd way of speaking, "Did I hear wrong?"

Kagura narrowed her gaze, her brow twitching, "You making fun of me?" Arms folded, she growled, "And I already told you to stop calling me Lady. Wanna make me feel like an old hag, don't ya?"

He didn't refer to Xeny with that lame word, so she couldn't understand why he did with her… for all she knew, that annoying blondie did so just to annoy her. Seeing his calm posture was the worst of it all though, after all, it showed he wasn't intimidated by her in the slightest.

Kagura really hated that.

The blonde shook his head, "I fail to see how being respectful would mean that I am calling you old, Lady Kagura." Was his simple response, his face betraying no emotion. "So in any case, shall we?"

Kagura grit her teeth from effort to remain silent, her hunched form exuded an animosity that was like fire, burning and fiery. This guy always knew what to say, and the worst was that she had no comeback since he didn't say anything wrong… technically that is.

"Tch, you think you're so clever…" She turned away from him with a scowl, eyebrows furrowed slightly, lips pressed hard against one another before she suddenly snapped, "You know what? I changed my mind. I'll just stay here and wait for Xeny to wake up." She yawns, forcing herself to relax, "You can go and ask for the permission to use the Arc."

Link nodded his head in affirmative, "Then I will."

With that, he walked away and towards the entrance of the Valencia Cathedral without turning around, his steps fading. Kagura folded her arms, and sat on a bench, near Xenovia's unconscious form. Looking up at the night sky, she sighed. crossing her legs.

Maybe she had exaggerated, but she could swear that guy had that innate ability to drive her nuts in a very short span… or maybe it was because he reminded her of that person of her past.

She couldn't tell at all.

"I ran out of sukonbu… shit…"

Part 5

Link scratched the back of his head, staring at the strange ornament before him. He wondered if it had any actual use, being referred to as a Grail by the monks and priests inside the Cathedral. Such objects supposedly held holy power, and were all connected to the Holy Grail residing in the Vatican.

He had to note that there was another one called the Sephiroth Graal, used by Christ in the historic event called the Last Supper. This grail, being part of the few Holy Relics, was a Sacred Gear, one of the thirteen Longinus.

Link however wasn't aware of the identity of its wielder, making him dismiss it from his mind since it was apparently lost many years ago, or so he was told.

With that subject out of his mind, Link continued to observe the ornament before him, which was made of gold with many detailed carvings. The faithful mentioned that a Grail held divine power, capable of providing happiness, eternal youth and sustenance in infinite abundance, but he had yet to see any of these objects actually doing anything of the sort. He could sense the holy power emanating though, maybe if he-

"Master Link, sorry for my lateness."

The blonde hylian blinked, turning to face a middle-aged bald man wearing a black cassock. His name was Ramiro Castillo, and he was in charge of the facilities.

"I should be the one apologizing, priest Ramiro," Link shook his head, "We came upon a short notice, so it is understandable that you could not attend us immediately."

Ramiro blinked, somewhat startled by his politeness. Not entirely unexpected actually, Link had always behaved properly when he addressed figures of high status, and the head of the most important Cathedral in this city was definitely one.

Zelda's lessons of diplomacy sure left another good trait on him, allowing Link to effectively interact with nobles and many influential figures in Hyrule and other countries, and ultimately gain their favor.

But it wasn't until just two years ago, during his past otherworldly adventure, that he found how useful this lessons resulted, having to prove himself to both the Avarosan Tribe and the Demacian Society. Hell, he even managed to gain the trust of the Ionian Guard Captain herself.

However, his hardest task had come when Link found himself lost in the Ixtal Jungle, discovering the hidden city of Xiaocan by accident, though he dare say it was destiny. There he encountered a certain overly prideful princess of the Yun Tal, who claimed to be the Empress of Elements. Earning her trust had been exceedingly difficult, requiring his diplomatic abilities to be used at its limits.

And even after succeeding, the youngest princess of the Yun Tal didn't make things easy.

While Link thought at first that being a diplomat was a matter that only concerned those in the higher echelons such a Princess Zelda, he had come to notice that being respectful and diplomatic was truly an efficient way of gaining allies, no matter the differences of culture and social standings. It had saved his life even.

The head of the Valencia Cathedral folded his arms, smiling, "Long ears, green tunic, blonde hair… and a really polite personality. Just what Dulio described, Master Link. I'm sure my fellow priests had done so already… still, I bid you welcome to our Holy Sanctum."

Link nodded his head in response. The priest motioned a hand for him to follow, and so he did as both walked across the chapel, Link observing in interest the paintings in the building. For some reason, it seemed that all religious-based decorations in Spain held an even more faithful approach to the story that narrated the past of the Catholic Church. It was fascinating contemplating the so called Sacred Art, in this case, Christian Art depicted in the paintings of the Cathedral.

"So Master Link, I've heard the terrible news about Antonio Rosales." The bald man commented as both entered a corridor, Link gazing at him from the corner of his eye. "It's such a pity that he and so many people met that horrible end. Nothing ever good can come from worshipping devils."

Link gave no reply, even suppressing a sigh. He wasn't sure how to take that comment as he had seen devils that were kinder and gentler than humans themselves. It wasn't like he would jump to conclusions and state that devils were good either, but from what he learnt during his stay in the Gremory Manor, being a devil didn't meant one was evil.

Maybe only stray devils were evil then?

Since he joined the church, this was the second time he faced a stray devil, and taking into account that the first one only attempted to escape from the church's grasp, Link couldn't really affirm the previous statement as a fact. Freedom was a right everyone should have, no matter the race or status.

Finally reaching a green wooden door, both entered an office. Compared to the previous rooms, this one held no decorations. There was a desk with three chairs aligned by it, and a sofa by the opposite wall. He could tell the illumination needed for one to work at night was plenty considering the distribution of the lightbulbs. Looking at the right, he noticed another door, but it was closed.

The man took a seat by the desk, and motioned his hand for Link to take one of the chairs at the other side. The hylian nodded his head at the gesture, following to make himself comfortable over the comfy furniture. The bald priest took out some documents, giving them a glance until one of them caught his attention.

Signing it, Ramiro extended the folder to him.

Link received the folder, knowing well the procedures he had to follow to receive permission to use an Ark. After a quick read to make sure this was the correct document, Link signed it with the same signature he learnt as a child when he received tutoring from many noble scholars. It was all part of the education program instilled in young children in Hyrule by order of the King to implement the culture of its citizens, which Zelda forced him to take despite his protests.

It wasn't until later that Link understood why Zelda did. By receiving formal education, he learned economics, biology, politics, literature, etiquette, the principles of magic, alchemy, geography and many other sciences. The scholars and the princess herself helped him a lot during those studies.

As Zelda once stated, there was no better prepared man than a man of culture. Even his fighting strategies and quick thinking improved slightly with all the knowledge he gained. Zelda had been correct as usual, and he had to eat his pride and offer an apology for arguing with her.

Ignorance surely was bold, and he was a kid that grew in the forest. The math was easy.

With the document signed, priest Ramiro smiled, "Well, that would be all, Master Link." The man stamped the permission note and handed it to him, "Now you have access to the Ark of our holy cathedral. Present the stamp to the watchers so they can let you in. You know what to do after that I assume."

Link responded with a nod of acknowledgement and a smile of appreciation. Pocketing the note in his belt, the blonde hylian stood up and extended a hand. The old man blinked, but let out a chuckle after few seconds. Raising both hands, Ramiro responded his gesture.

"Godspeed, my son," Said Ramiro in farewell.

Link raised an eyebrow at that. It was unusual to hear those words since he never had a father, not even after the King of Hyrule adopted him, as he was still referred to as Link, but it seemed that it was customary for priests in this world to call that to those faithful. Not that Link was one, but he had been learning, and the catholic religion proved to be rather interesting since its roots were connected to the Biblical God and the Angels.

However, as Link researched historical events of Catholicism, he came to develop doubts about the integrity of the current religion as he eventually found about certain events that led him to not see the Catholic Church in a good light. Such events were the Crusades, the Inquisition and the Witch Burnings.

Even if those were events of the past, Link felt he shouldn't ignore them.

"Thank you for your time, Priest Ramiro," Link finally responded with a benignant tone, "I will be on my way."

With that said, the green-garbed exorcist exited the office.

Part 6

"This… is really tiny… You sure this is it?"

Link smirked in amusement at the sudden comment, Kagura, on the other hand, shot a glare at Xenovia upon that inquiry, making her flinch, "I came here through it, shithead. How wouldn't I know?"

The redhead's manner of speaking was of course too sweet…

The bluehead scratched her cheek nervously, "R-Right…"

"Besides, those guards said this was the Ark, didn't they?" The redhead added, her blue eyes wandering across the room in a bored manner.

"Right…" Repeated Xenovia, or more like whispered to herself, looking nervous. Link could understand her behaviour since Kagura knocked her out just half an hour ago without even trying. "Oh, I totally forgot. Griselda told me to ask you about the scroll she gave you."

Kagura blinked, "Uh… she did? It was a long time ago. Who knows what happened to it?"

The bluehead cocked an eyebrow, "One week isn't that long ago. You know she won't be happy to hear that…"

The redhead rolled her eyes, stance showing no real worry about the matter, "Trust me, she's never happy to hear anything from us, so why even bother?"

Link snickered, folding his arms as he mentally agreed with her redhead, after all, during his stay in the church quarters, he had been witness of such.

Xenovia scratched the back of her head, "I know but…"

Ignoring their banter, the only male in the group decided to observe the medium-sized room instead. There were some stone columns placed around a stony platform, many symbols carved on the solid surface, all of them forming a cross. While tinier in every sense of the word, Link could see this Ark probably worked in the same way as the others.

Link stood over it, and with a curt gaze, called out, "We wasted enough time. We are being expected at the other side." Link spoke solemnly, "Let us make haste."

The girl known as White Fang shrugged her shoulders, "Right, right… don't get so impatient, Link-chan." Dragging her large umbrella, Kagura stood by his side and leaned to him, "Ehrm, can we buy Sukonbu along the way? I ran out of it."

"As long as we do so quick, I do not see a problem," Link replied easily.

Kagura looked at him for a few seconds, "Fair enough!" Grinning and looking pleased, she gave him some space so he could kneel to observe the marks on the platform closely. After a brief examination, he put the paper with the seal in the middle of the platform, over a minuscule cross sign. Kagura then spared a glance at Xenovia, "Oi, Xeny! Get a move on or we'll leave ya!"

Xenovia held onto her sword, and with hurried steps, approached them, "D-don't leave me behind!" She glared at Link, who's only response was a blink of his deep blue eyes, "You're going to start being mean to me, too?"

The otherworldly traveler cocked an eyebrow, resting a hand on her head, "If you think I have done so, then my apologies Xenovia. Since an Ark takes several minutes to work, I decided to activate it sooner so we do not have to wait more than we need to."

Kagura yawned, "You just get work up so easily, Xeny. Do you really think we'd leave you here in another country by yourself? I mean, it'd be funny, but… it's you we're talking about, right?"

Link had to suppress a chuckle since it was true, not to mention the way she phrased it. Kagura surely wasn't one to mince her words, not even with those that were above her in the rankings of the church. This girl was just easy-going all of the time, a teaser and sorta childish, traits that Link didn't really mind.

Xenovia deadpanned, "Despite the intent, that still sounds insulting…"

Link and Kagura exchanged glances, grinning at one another. With the trio standing on the platform, light suddenly spread to every visible mark. The arc was about to be completely activated.

The Hylian observed as the two started yet another argument about the gastronomy of Japan, in which he decided not to take part in. Even if he wanted to, when those two started talking about food, it was wise to not get involved for self-preservation.

Intense light surrounded the entire room briefly before fading completely, the sound of a bell echoing. No one was left inside the room.

o-0-O-0-o

"Greetings, we were expecting you!"

The trio of exorcists turned to an old woman as they noticed they were standing in a room similar to the one they just left, but bigger in contrast. The designs on the decorations were almost the same, yet the structure itself seemed a bit different in terms of architecture. Since they were now in Japan, such was to be expected.

Xenovia bowed to the old woman, "Thank you for receiving us."

Kagura just shrugged her shoulders, "Same."

Link nodded his head in acknowledgement, "Indeed." His eyes wandered around the room for a few seconds before adding, "I assume we're in the only Roman Catholic Diocese of Nagoya."

"Yes, my son. We received the report of your arrival," The woman motioned her head for them to follow. "The transport's ready to take you to your target destination. As you may already know, we received reports of a group attacking multiple areas across the northern part of the Noubi Plain, and even Nagoya City."

'Nagoya City, huh?' Link mused, recalling the map of Japan he studied prior to leaving Kuoh Town. 'It is far from her territory at least.'

The trio followed, Xenovia walking at the old woman's side, "Their whereabouts are still unknown?"

"I'm afraid our scouts have yet to find them. Freed Sellzen was spotted by many security cameras, so we can say for certain that he leads them," The woman replied with a grim expression, "The police department had pledged to support us in finding their hideout, which we first believed was located in Nagoya, but it seems our suspicions were misleading. Their latest attacks had been directed to small towns located across the Noubi Plain, by the southern area of the Gifu prefecture. They're most likely hiding around there."

Link sighed as all these names were locations he held no knowledge about. At least he would get to do some exploring while trying to find the stray exorcist group. Something to look forward to if he was to be honest.

Xenovia smirked, "We'll capture them, so don't worry, miss… eh…"

"Oh! How rude of me," The woman stopped in her tracks and turned to them, gray eyes filled with a wisdom that could only be obtained by living many years, "I'm Sister Clementina. Pleased to meet you."

"Link…" The blond said quietly.

"Name's Kagura," The redhead smirked.

The bluehead bowed once more, "And I'm Xenovia."

Sister Clementina glanced at Link's ears in that moment, "Sir Link, Lord Gesualdo mentioned your special circumstances. It's hard to believe, if I'm to be honest."

"I understand," Link assumed a stoic posture, closing his eyes. "The particular shape of my ears is similar to those considered vampire, or devil. It must be an odd concept for you to handle, as for everyone else. Fear not, as from where I come from, these are common, and have no relation to any race of this world."

The sister shook her head, "No need to elaborate, my son. God must have brought you to us, and I won't question it."

Kagura pointed at herself, "Oi, oba-chan. What about me? I also have 'special' circumstances, you know?"

Sister Clementina nodded his head, "I understand. In any case, let's not make your transport wait." She said with a kind smile and proceeded to move forward, followed by Xenovia, who giggled at seeing Kagura irking a brow.

"Did she just totally ignore me?" Kagura growled, arms folded. Link glanced at her in amusement as she muttered, "I'm gonna totally kick her ass."

Resting a hand on Kagura's shoulder to placate her, the hylian tilted his head while narrowing his gaze, "I am positive that she did not mean it."

The redhead didn't look convinced in the slightest and only shrugged her shoulders in response, "Whatever you say, Link-chan," She elbowed him softly, earning his full attention, "You know…" She began as both followed Xenovia and the sister, "I don't think its a bad quality, but the fact that you tend to see only the good in people until proven otherwise will cause you trouble in the future, you know? Not everyone's good."

While that may have happened in the past, Link wasn't naive anymore. He had learnt during his adventures that kindness and goodwill usually came in drops. Hyrule wasn't an exception to this rule, sadly, but it was to a lesser extent at least.

"Thank you for the advice, mother," Link replied with a sarcastic smile. "I will be sure to keep it in mind."

Kagura deadpanned, "I'm gonna kick your ass too if you keep talking, smartass." He snorted at that. It was just the reaction he expected of her honestly, "What the heck is a diocese anyway?"

Link shot her a glance before looking forward in thought, a hand under his chin. If he could recall correctly, in a book that held many historical events about Catholicism, and vocabulary related to it, this particular word was mentioned several times. He indeed had the answer for that inquiry.

"Diocese is derived from the greek word 'dioikesis', which means 'administration' in your own language," He elaborated, Kagura raising an eyebrow. "However, in an ecclesiastical sense, it refers to the ecclesiastical district under the jurisdiction of a bishop."

Kagura gazed at him blankly, "Seriously dude, did you get that from a dictionary and actually memorized it?"

Link only shrugged his shoulders in response.

"Oi, you didn't say no…"

Part 7

"This'll be a lot more difficult than I thought… I mean, the Noubi plain is too big!"

Link narrowed his gaze, ignoring Xenovia's exclamation. The trio were inside a house used as a temporary base of operations, just by the southern border of the Noubi Plain, in Kakamigahara. They were currently examining the map and schematics supplied the Church's operatives in Nagoya.

"Well yeah," Kagura, who was somewhat familiar with the area nodded her head, eyes shining in recognition. "But don't start crying so fast, Xeny. Taking into account every attack these shitbags had done in towns and cities across the Noubi Plain, it's easy to tell where they'd possibly be residing."

Xenovia cocked an eyebrow, "Easy? How so?"

Kagura yawned in boredom bere elaborating, "Well, just look at the location of the assaulted areas." She pointed at every mark on the map, both Link and Xenovia leaning closely. "Every attacked town's somewhat close to another, with these two major cities between them." Tracing her finger to locations between the marks, she continued to make her point, "Here and here. I suggest we search in these two cities instead of venturing all over the plain, hoping to find a damn lead."

Link could understand her reasoning. These two cities were areas that were visited by Freed Sellzen's group during the last month, and every town near them had been the target of their mayhem. There was a high probability of them still hiding in one of them.

"What about the third mark that is at the other side of the Gifu prefecture?" Asked Xenovia, leaning over the table, "There has been attacks around it, too."

Kagura folded her arms, tapping the table with her index, "Well, these bastards had been spotted in its surroundings too. There're many towns around, so yeah, could be another good place for these damn cowards to hide."

Xenovia blinked as she read the name of the three possible locations of the stray exorcists, all three marked on the map, "The Kamo District, Yamagata and Gifu…"

"Alright, I suppose we're gonna have to split up and search for them," Kagura gracefully waved her long red hair, and picked up her umbrella. "You okay with that, Link-chan?"

The blonde young man made a thoughtful expression, a hand under his chin, the other resting on the table as he made the respective inner deliberations. He would have used the Gem of Hope to choose correctly where to search for, but as stated before, the gem no longer held magical power to function properly.

The fact that they had to keep Freed's hunt under a low profile by request of Sister Clementina only made their search difficult. It was understandable that she would want to prevent people from knowing about the incidents caused by exorcists that were affiliated with the Catholic Church at some point.

Recruiting more believers to their religious organization was the church's goal, and having people become aware about stray exorcists causing ruckus around the world would definitely chase them away.

Not to mention the fact that this Asian country held many territories that belonged to Devils. The presence of three powerful exorcists could very well be seen by them as a breach to the temporary arrangement of not intervening with one another's business.

But ultimately, the safety of innocent people came to Link as a higher priority, so he was ready to disregard such a request should it be necessary.

In any case, splitting up was apparently the best call to make since Freed's whereabouts were still unknown, unlike with the previous two exorcists. Counting Xenovia, Kagura and himself, they were now three, and there were three possible locations where their targets could be hiding.

There was only one good way to proceed.

"We will split up to search for them just like lady Kagura offered," Link finally spoke with a solemn expression, "Should you find him however, do not engage with him without having reinforcements." No matter if these two could very well take care of themselves, he still wasn't about to let them face danger alone. "Xenovia, Lady Kagura, am I clear?"

The bluehead nodded her head, yet the redhead twitched a brow in annoyance.

"Stop calling me lady already, asshole!" She growled in indignation, "And who do you think you're talking to?" She stepped up to him, leaning forward as she twitched an eyebrow, "I'll kick their sorry assess all the way to hell when I find them!"

Link stared at her blankly. Well, since it was Kagura, he knew that she wasn't going to change her mind, so he had to let it slide. "I understand. If that is your decision, I will respect it. Then all I will ask is for you to be careful should you encounter them. Innocent people could get hurt as collateral damage."

Kagura put her hands on her hips, gazing at Link impassively, "I know that, Link-chan. I'll protect them if that happens. Don't underestimate me."

"All I want is to prevent a tragedy," He pointed out sternly. "Nothing good can come from storming your way through them without having considered the consequences, Lady Kagura."

"I know quite well what I must do," She retorted, hands resting on her wide hips. "It's not like this is my first time doing this."

A staring contest began as Link's stoic gaze clashed with Kagura's curt one.

Xenovia sweatdropped, scratching her cheek, "Well, I suppose we should get going before they attack another town."

Kagura tilted her head in a bored manner, "I'll take the capital, Gifu, if you don't have any objection." He gazed on the map at Gifu city, which was located at the north west from their current location.

"Fair enough," Link responded before glancing at Xenovia.

"Oh? I'll… ehrm… explore Yamagata then," She pointed at the map, to a city located to the north, of the prefectural capital. It was worth mentioning that Yamagata city bordered with Gifu, "It seems we'll be going together for a while, Kagura."

"I suppose," But she turns her face away from her. "But it's not like I want any company, eh?"

Xenovia deadpanned, "Always the tsundere, huh?"

"Hoh… so you picked that word," She shrugged her shoulders, "How's your Japanese, Xeny?"

She blinked at her sudden question, "I'm good. I've been practicing a lot with Erina, so yeah, don't worry about that."

Link could see Kagura's intent with that inquiry since Xenovia would need to communicate with any authority so she could start searching for leads by herself. While there were some Churches with people that spoke many languages, including Italian, across certain areas in Japan, it was better to be prepared in case she should need to interact with the japanese citizens.

Kagura was another story though, she clearly had no problems speaking it, although her Italian was still poor, and she often dragged Erina along with her as some sort of translator when they were at Vatican City.

Whatever the case, Link gazed at the map, to the area left for him. Kamo District, which was apparently located east from their location. He made a humming sound and glanced at the two women, nodding his head, "Tread lightly, both of you. "

"Yes, Link!" Xenovia nodded, her short blue hair bouncing slightly.

"Hmph!" Kagura turned her face to the side, red locks of hair falling over her right shoulder as her eyes were closed, her arms were folded, "I suppose I could say the same to you." Link raised an eyebrow at her snarky tone, "But don't misunderstand me, I'm just saying it because you have the seal for us to go back. It's not like I care about you at all."

"I understand," He replied, and turned around.

"But! Yeah, be careful, too," Link looked over his shoulder, noticing the redness on her cheeks as she returned the gaze from the corner of her eyes. "You still owe me two dinners."

The green-clad exorcist smiled in response while nodding his head, before setting off.

"Dere Dere!" Xenovia chirped as the blonde left the room.

"Huuuh!?"

The redhead turned to her with a fearsome expression, which caused her to sweatdrop profusely. In an attempt to prevent divine punishment, Xenovia waved her hands frenetically.

"I'm so stupid, Kagura! Be merciful with me as God would be!" She pleaded in fear.

As Link was exiting the passageway connected to the previous room, he heard a loud thud followed by…

"Pwah!"

Link rolled his eyes, deciding to ignore their antics and left the building.

Part 8

One day later.

Sakahogi Town, the first stop in the search for his target.

Link stood over a building called the Sakahogi Great Hall as he observed the horizon. The weather was somewhat hot despite that it was cloudy, but it was far from being a nuisance.

There was no Church he could contact, and from what he had gathered from the mayor of the town, Sakahogi wasn't intruded by any suspicious people yet. It seemed this area wasn't going to help much in his search.

Having already stocked himself some dairy products and fruit for the travel, Link headed towards the next location, where his transport awaited.

o-0-O-0-o

Eleven hours later.

A certain otherworldly traveler gazed through a black vehicle's window, observing the sight as the driver took him to the next destination. It was worth mentioning that Link found himself deadpanning by the relentless comments of the man driving the car, who was apparently proud of holding possession of this particular vehicle. The talkative driver even mentioned the model name, but it had eluded Link's memory since he held no interest in it. Said man was a Japan-born male that worked for the Church. Since they split up to search for Freed Sellzen, each one of them was assigned a driver - not of their choosing, of course.

The name of this man was Oda Toshiro, a bald, aged man. Ignoring his love for the vehicle, the elderly man was quite an interesting fellow to talk to as he always commented about any local gossip and rumors of interest about every place they visited. If Link was to put it, the man behaved like a tour guide.

Whatever the case, the exorcist could still appreciate it.

Link spoke to the authorities in Minokamo City for any leads, but all he got was some reports about the attacks in the towns that conformed the Kamo District. Link then decided to head directly there to investigate the places that were assaulted by stray exorcists.

The man took Link across the city and towards the borders of his destination. Eventually they reached Kawabe Town, a rather populated area despite that it was 70 percent covered by hills and forests. It was already night, the city lights illuminating the streets, a somewhat somber outlook covering them. It seemed there was some sort of neighborhood festival being celebrated at a shrine.

Link decided to tell Toshiro that he would stay there to gather information from the people congregated around the area. While there was no church in this town according his guide, he mentioned some Christians actually living in the district.

He could start from there.

"Thank you, Sir Toshiro. I will contact you once I am ready to continue," Link informed, leaning to the opened window of his vehicle. He raised his hand, a green shiny orb appearing over it before it faded, only to reappear inside the bottle by the car's windshield.

"Of course, Knight-san," The man responded with a nod, "I just have to open the bottle as before, right?"

Since Link was known as the Emerald Knight inside the ranks of the Catholic Church, people who heard of him got accustomed to addressing him as either that title, or simply: Knight.

The blonde warrior didn't really mind it.

"Yes. I will just teleport back here once you do." Link handed him some yen bills, making the man blink in surprise. "Take this and have a good time while I continue my investigation."

"You already paid for my services, Link-san. It's too much, you don't need to," He scratches his head, looking uncomfortable, "Is everyone in the church this wealthy?"

"Not at all, my friend," Said Link as a grin appeared. "I suppose I was lucky."

Link extended the money once more, making him sigh, "Alright, Link-san. I really appreciate it."

With that done, Link waved at him as he left, observing as the black vehicle turned left by the intersection. He still wasn't used to all the technology that existed in this world, such as these metallic made vehicles. They came in many sizes and models, even sorts, as there were trucks and motorbikes. He had to admit that creating this kind of transport was a great scientific achievement.

However, Link also was aware of the contamination it brought to nature, since their fuel, created by using a component known as petroleum, let out harmful smoke into the air. While he at first thought that such vehicles could be useful in Hyrule, he wasn't about to compromise the safety of his world's environment. The smoke that came from vehicles and factories across the world were the cause of impurities in the air, which he sensed upon arrival after leaving the Gremory Manor one year ago.

Whatever the case, people depended on them in this world. Even Link needed them, since he had to travel long distances as fast as possible. However, only when he wasn't on a mission, he would use a horse from the stable he purchased in Denmark, known as the Christiansborg Palace. Having the ability to teleport himself allowed him to take his horses everywhere.

Back on track, the blonde hylian looked at the large set of stairs that led to the shrine where the festival was taking place. He knew these sorts of celebrations were common in many countries of Asia, mostly in Japan, Korea and China. Link always enjoyed learning about the customs of other countries, so actually attending a shrine festival, whatever the reason, was going to be a good experience.

Link walked up the stairs, the sound of people and music becoming clearer as he approached. He recalled Himejima Akeno mentioning that these local festivals were traced back to historic Shinto rituals or harvest celebrations. It seemed that carrying on traditions was essential in the Japanese culture. He could respect that.

Go to profile, LISTEN: Link in Path of Legends HxD: Life 3 Section: Song 03

Finally arriving to the shrine grounds, Link was pleasantly surprised by the sight before him. To begin with, there were many people congregated, some wearing traditional clothing, others with just casual outfits. Link found himself GOOGLINGby the outfit most girls displayed, which was the Japanese garment called yukata, an apparent casual summer version of the kimono.

For what his keen eyes could see, the traditional clothing was made with straight seams, and it somehow resembled a dressing gown, with wide sleeves in contrast to them. Most of their designs displayed floral prints of many vivid colors, each one as interesting as the last. On the waist, they sported a large sash, somehow tied and leaving a ribbon on the back, referred to as an obi. White socks and sandals completed the traditional outfit.

Link could see the Japanese culture by just observing the yukatas. They were even worn by men, but they sported solid dark colors. He couldn't help himself wanting to see Zelda wearing one of these. Hell, Malon would look stunning with one of vivid red colors.

He shook his head to remove those thoughts and looked on with interest at the many stands positioned around the shrine grounds. The vendors sold traditional snacks, such as sweet potatoes, chocolate-dipped bananas and funny character lollipops.

However, his attention was drawn to a stand where the popular takoyaki was sold. Since Xenovia wouldn't shut up about it when the subject came up, Link took upon himself the task of getting acquaintanced with its recipe.

As he observed the stand, a kind old woman approached him, noting his interest in the Takoyaki. To his surprise, she revealed the information he was searching for. Apparently, Takoyaki were ball-shaped snacks made of wheat flour-based batter and often filled with minced octopus, tempura scraps, pickled ginger and green onions, brushed with Takoyaki sauce, mayonnaise and sprinkled with green laver and shavings of dried fish, the Bonito type used the most.

The old woman left after that, telling him to enjoy the festival to the fullest. The hospitality in these lands was worth noting.

Finally approaching the food stand, Link took out a yen note, addressing the vendor, "Greetings, mister."

"Oi, oi! We have a foreigner here, haha!" The bald man with a moustache laughed, "Welcome, welcome! Interested in tasting our delicious Takoyaki, my good looking lad?"

He nodded, "Yes, I would like a portion."

He handed the yen note, the man instantly giving him a portion of Takoyaki in a wooden-made tiny boat. Just by sight Link could tell the food was delicious, and he bet Xenovia would be drooling by just the sight alone, not to mention the pleasant aroma. Having mastered the use of chopsticks thanks to the tutelage of Grayfia Lucifuge during his stay in the Gremory territory as the Fierce Deity, Link picked up a Takoyaki ball easily and took it to his mouth.

He blinked in shock, picking up one takoyaki ball after another, until the boat of food was empty. To say it was delicious was an understatement, this snack was food made by the goddesses themselves, he could swear.

"Done already?" The man chuckled, spying the empty container on his hands, "It was that good, eh?"

"Yes," He scratched his cheek in mild embarrassment, "Before giving me the change, can I have another portion?"

"Of course!" The man served his order in a matter of seconds, "There you go lad. Itadakimasu!" He said while clapping his hands together.

"Thank you."

He quickly took one to his mouth, before receiving his change. Maybe he was exaggerating, but it tasted a lot better than the last.

"Haha, there's more, so feel free to come later."

Link smiled at him, "I definitely will. Thank you again."

Waving his goodbye at the kind vendor, the young man sat on a bench to enjoy the rest of his food as he observed the lively festival. Children ran from stand to stand, playing and shouting in excitement, and many couples and groups of teens enjoying themselves to their fullest.

However, what caught his undivided attention was a group of people carrying a portable shrine, paraded up and down the streets as they chanted in unison.

Link scratched his cheek.

'I am getting carried away. I need to start investigating…'

Link finished his food quickly to get back on track, yet, as he was about to stand up, he sensed someone approaching the bench.

"Umm… I-I hope I'm not intruding, but… can I sit here?"

The blonde exorcist met the gaze of someone with the same hair-color, whose eyes were green and big, and emitted some sort of warmth and shyness. Link blinked as a short girl stood with her hands intertwined at the side of the bench.

By all means she stood out from the rest, and there were many reasons behind that statement. To begin with, her features were not of a Japanese girl, but from a foreigner to this country, someone that could be taken as European since her skin was cream white and she had long blond hair that reached below her back.

Now, what was more important was her attire, since it wasn't the traditional clothing one would expect to see in a place like this, nor it was the casual type. This girl actually wore a dark teal nun outfit with light-blue accents, a white veil covering her head with a similar design. Worth noting was also the brown satchel that slung over her right sleeve, holding a book, and the silver cross necklace she wore around her neck. Brown boots completed her outfit.

Just like his guide mentioned, there were indeed Christians residing in this town. Who would have thought that sitting on that bench would be the starting point of his investigation? A stroke of luck if he was to name it.

Link smiled and motioned his head for her to make herself comfortable.

"Thank you," She smiled gratefully, and made her way to the empty spot of the bench.

The girl observed the surroundings, Link keeping an eye on her as she did. Some few seconds elapsed until the nun broke the silence.

"It's so lively," She giggled. "I always enjoy seeing these kind of festivals! The Japanese culture is so interesting!"

Link raised a brow as he peered at her, noticing the look of excitement on her face. As he suspected, she was indeed foreign to this country.

He grinned in response, "It is."

She turned to him with a shy smile, "Yes, it is." She giggled again before blinking in realization, "You're also visiting Japan?" She blinked again, as if just noticing something she failed to see before, "Y-your ears…"

This was the time for Link to be startled as only those that held either holy, unholy or demonic power, could see their true shape. While many theories behind this turn of events popped up in his head, Link simply decided to go for the most obvious one.

If she was a nun, then this girl probably was connected to a church. Link was informed by Sister Clementina that their operatives were scattered among other areas, which meant that this girl couldn't be aligned to the Roman Catholic Church, as he was, but most likely to another religious institution. She probably held enough power to be able to see past the magical cover of his ears.

"You can see them?" Link asked.

"Y-yes… I shouldn't?" She frowned slightly, "I may be making a wrong assumption, but humans don't possess those sort of ears… a-are you a devil?"

Link shook his head, "No, I am actually a member of the Catholic Church." He replied, glancing at some kids playing near the bench, wearing masks of different and intriguing designs. "I suppose I can say that from where I come from, ears like these are common."

The nun tilted her head to the side in a rather cute manner, "I-Is that so?" He nodded at her, "Alright!" Her gaze dropped suddenly, a tint of red spreading across her cheeks, "Is that place far?"

"Really, really far," He replied honestly.

"I-I see…" She muttered to herself before becoming silent.

Link, who learnt of the gentlemanly ways during his growth, decided to help her feel comfortable, and spoke politely, "Are you unwell, my lady?"

"Eh?" She blinked, before resting her hands over her legs, "I th-think I'm a bit nervous…"

"Is that my fault?"

"No, no!" She waves her hands frantically, "It's… it's just…" She dropped her gaze, trembling green orbs directed at her lap, "It's been some time since I had the chance to speak with s-someone…" She blinked, becoming redder, "I-I mean, I've been traveling a lot lately and I just…!"

Link raised a hand at her, "You do not need to explain yourself to me," He smiled reassuringly, "Since I am here, we might as well talk a bit while we enjoy this festival, yes?"

She seemed puzzled at first, but a kind smile found its way to her face, "Yes!" She started fidgeting, "Ehrm…" Link cocked an eyebrow as she seemed eager to say something, yet her shyness prevailed for several seconds, until she breathed deeply, that is. "I… I'm Asia Argento…" She said with a sweet voice, "Nice to meet you!"

The green-clad young man stared at her from the corner of his eyes when a smirk popped up in his face, "…Link… and the pleasure is mine."

"Link?" She repeated, putting a finger on her chin, "T-then… Link-san."

He stared at her with a bit of confusion, wondering why she added that suffix to his name. It came as weird since she wasn't Japanese. He guessed she wanted to behave properly since she was in Japan, and using suffixes when addressing people was the correct thing to do, even if she was a foreigner.

"Asia," Link said with a nod.

The nun smiled genuinely at that, and Link couldn't help responding with one of his own. She was beautiful, and her smile radiated kindness, almost as much as the one he had seen on the archangel Gabriel. It was that kind.

"So Link-san," The Hylian could tell she seemed happy when calling his name for some reason, but he decided to overlook it, "What brings you here to his side of the world?" She asked cheerfully.

Since he was supposed to keep things as low in profile as he could, he decided to give a vague answer, "Just came to attend some business that concerned the church."

Asia nodded, "I see… Is there anything I can help you with?" She leaned to him, her hands intertwined as if she was praying, "Even if I'm new to this country, maybe I can help you with your task."

Link was grateful since he was actually going to ask her about any criminal activity in the area. There was the possibility of her knowing something substantial.

"Actually, I would appreciate some information," His gaze was attracted to the passing shrine carried by the followers. Just then he noticed the townsfolk around eyeing them in curiosity, but he paid them no mind. "How long have you been here, in Kawabe Town I mean?"

She blinked, slightly startled, "Eh?" She makes a thoughtful expression, "I've been here for two days, I think. I got transferred to a church in another town, but I'm traveling through Japan alongside my group to gather some instruments in the meanwhile… I think?"

'She is not completely sure, is she?' Link mused, taking a mental note.

Asia Argento seemed to be the innocent type, most likely one that ignored important matters related to her own organization. While it was too soon to have that as a fact, Link could tell the nun wasn't certain of her group's purpose.

"I understand," Link commented neutrally, a sharp light on his eyes appearing, "Is your group around here by any chance?"

The nun frowned, "No, they let me wander for a bit on my own while they go to gather these instruments." She seemed to be rather nervous all of a sudden, which didn't go unnoticed by the young man. "There have been many incidents lately, so I was told to remain at places with crowds around for my own safety."

Link narrowed his gaze after being told the information. By all means this kind nun held important intel, or at least something that could give him a lead to track Freed Sellzen.

"Incidents?"

She bit her lower lip, visibly worried, "Y-yes, Link-san. There was some group attacking many places from what I've heard. A lot of people were killed…"

Maybe it was the subject being addressed, but the night suddenly felt chiller than it had been a moment ago, "Here in Japan?" Link inquired, attentively observing her for any suspicious reaction.

Asia drew her attire tighter around her, "Yes…"

Link frowned as the nun was clearly speaking about the activity of Freed Sellzen's group, and the fact that a foreigner would know about it while many japanese authorities didn't could only mean…

'No… It is too soon to make any conclusion,' He shook his head, not wanting to fall under a confirmation bias. 'I need more information before deciding on a course of action.'

"Since when?" He pressed absently, voice coming out dry.

Asia started fidgeting again, making him realize that his sharp demeanor may have intimidated her. It was serious business after all. However, making her feel uncomfortable wasn't the best way to approach this interrogation since he was trying to not make it seem like one.

He let out a sigh, and waited to let her regain her will to speak again, patiently so.

"I-I'm not sure…" She eventually responded, averting her face aside. "I've heard about these incidents since I came to Japan."

Link made a humming sound, wondering if the church-related criminal activity in Japan was known to a public degree. So far, it didn't seem the case, also taking into account what Sister Clementina asked for. Maybe Asia's organization was well-informed…

However, there were still too many inquiries about Asia Argento.

One: To what church was this nun affiliated with?

Two: What instruments were her group gathering?

Three: Why didn't Asia's group contact any local authority in regards of this matter?

Link's gaze became lost, his arms folded as he reflected a bit. There was something that didn't feel right with this nun. He of course, wasn't referring to her in particular, but to the group she was affiliated with. Taking into account the intel he received by his superiors, he would have known if another church was present in the area beforehand, too.

This was suspicious, so all he could do was to continue to dig in until he discovered the truth. For instance, to gain the trust of Asia Argento was of great importance for his current task. But for such a kind and shy girl, he had decided to be honest.

"Asia," He began with a serious tone, noticeably startling her. "I am here to find the people behind those attacks. I was sent by the Catholic Church to capture them."

She was stunned for several seconds by Link's revelation, "I-I see…"

"Do you happen to know anything about a group of stray exorcists?" He inquired sternly.

The shy girl glanced at him before averting her gaze, she now seemed lost in thought. The nun looked slightly nervous, her hands gripping tightly her attire by the legs the proof of that. Link allowed her some seconds of silence to let her think her answer carefully.

"I…" Asia started, however, before she could continue, an interruption came.

"Oh! Isn't it Link-nya?"

Both blondes turned to the new voice, spotting two individuals Link knew far too well.

'What are they doing here…?'

One was a young man with black short hair, who wore a circlet and a Chinese red armor. It was said this armor in particular was an ancient relic used during the Three Kingdoms Period, which was a historical event in China in which it was divided between three states: Wei, Shu, and Wu. That much he knew at least, having researched a bit of the story in China after meeting Dulio Gesualdo.

The name of the armored man was Bikou, apparently a descendant of the Buddha Sun Wukong.

The other individual was an incredibly attractive young woman, who had long black hair with split bangs, who's hazel-gold eyes shone intensely under her cat-like pupils. Her attire consisted of a kimono, a yellow obi, a set of golden beads, and an ornately detailed headband. The kimono featured a red interior which opened at her shoulders, giving view to an imposing cleavage.

He wished he didn't know her name or anything about her, since she was a troublesome woman. Her name was Kuroka.

Worth mentioning though was the fact that neither of them were human, but Youkai, a race of various species of supernatural beings native to Asia. Link had many mixed feelings about them, as they were considered monsters by ordinary people, something Link had become accustomed to fighting since he was a mere child. Given their varied forms, going from almost human-shaped to monstrous-looking, it apparently depended to the species they belonged to.

However, just like devils, there were apparently those that could be good, as well as evil, so their appearance didn't necessarily match their alignment.

Kuroka was a Nekomata, a cat-like species which specialized in using ki within the East Youkai Faction who were under the rule of Magari, leader of the Nekomatas. Bikou was a monkey Youkai, who now displayed his human form. He was formerly a Monkey King of the Mountain of Flowers and Fruits.

Their presence in this town could only mean that something important was happening, and whatever it was, Link would be ready. Considering to which group they were affiliated, it was to be expected.

He gave them both a nod of acknowledgement as the duo approached, the nun at his side blinking in surprise, "Friends of yours, Link-san?" He glanced at her, nodding his head once more.

"Hehehe! Look at him!" Bikou exclaimed with a knowing grin, "Are we interrupting something?"

"Yes," Link replied curtly, earning from the male youkai a laugh.

The bold, voluptuous Nekomata sat in the tiny spot on the bench at Link's left, shoving her wide hips at him to push him and make some space for herself. Link already felt uncomfortable with her proximity, as was usual. He wouldn't show that though.

"Hehehe! You're as friendly as usual, Link!"

The hylian narrowed his gaze in response when suddenly, the Nekomata leant on him.

"Cheating on me, nya?" She spoke slowly, her tone holding a fake amount of irritation.

Link raised an eyebrow, slightly bothered, his pinky finger picking his ear in a display of disinterest, "Excuse me?"

And of course, Kuroka brought up a certain subject, one that Link didn't really welcome.

"Are you going to mate with her, Link?"

The blonde warrior remained stoic despite her proximity, even ignoring the way she trailed her fingers across his cheeks. Having already interacted with her multiple times, Link had come to simply ignore her flirtatious personality, and all that came with the subject of… 'mating'.

However, Asia started to blush heavily, "M-Mating!? We-we-we j-just met…"

And if it wasn't bad enough, another unwanted comment came, courtesy of the monkey youkai.

"Finally showing your true face, eh Link?" The Bikou teased, "I knew it! Always the silent type ends up being the worst pervert. Hahaha!" He patted Link's shoulder, chuckling in amusement, "Don't worry though, I'll keep your secret… for the right price!"

Asia waved her hands, as she flushed crimson, "No-no! Link-san is only my…" She stopped herself, earning from Link and the two others a furrow of their brows, "Link-san… is a kind person I just met."

'Was she going to say friend? …Why didn't she?' Link mused inwardly. 'Is this just her habitual shyness or…?'

But of course, a non-helpful comment came from a non-helpful individual.

"Then you're playing with her, Link?" Bikou made a smug expression, "You only joined the church to harass cute nuns like her?"

Such was enough for Link's patience to reach an end, a sharp, fearsome glint filled the Hylian's eyes, devoid of light, "State your business, or begone."

His reaction, however, didn't receive the expected result as Kuroka enveloped Link's arm between her striking assets, displaying no sign of fright, "Ohhh… Link's getting mad, nya~" He turned to gaze at her blandly, which she responded with a sly smile, "You make me so hot when you look at me like that-nyaaah…" She purred to his ear.

"I do not have time to spare," Link stood on his feet, getting free of her grasp, a pout adorning Kuroka's face as he adjusted his glove, "You're no fun-nya!"

"I am currently on a mission," Stated Link seriously, closing his eyes, "Let me ask again," With arms folded, he inquired sternly, "Why are you two here?"

The cat girl leant her head to the side, locks of black hair spreading over her left shoulder, "Can't we just visit lively towns like this one for fun-nya?" Said Kuroka with a fake pout.

Link raised an eyebrow in disbelief, "Are you telling me that two members of the Vali team are wandering across a japanese town just for fun?"

Asia tilted her head, "Vali… team?"

The monkey youkai rested an elbow on Link's shoulder while smirking, "Believe it or not, we are. Anyway, I've heard there's plenty of powerful people inside the church. Mind introducing them sometime?"

The man with pointed ears cocked an eyebrow, looking at him from the corner of his eyes, when a sudden smirk spread across his face, "I may know someone just for you."

He had, of course, a certain sukonbu-lover redhead in mind. He was certain that woman would put an end to his battlelust, and that annoying personality of his.

"Heh! That's why I like you, Link!" Bikou grinned, putting an arm around Link's neck, "You understand me so well!"

"Can you two stop this bromance thing already?" Said Kuroka with a deadpan expression. Her golden eyes landed on the shy nun, who blinked nervously under her scrutiny. "Why don't we just enjoy the festival-nya?"

Asia Argento stood up, clapping her hands together and smiling sweetly, "Yes! We should all enjoy the festival!"

Link and Bukou exchanged a glance, the latter chucking, "There you go, the nun wants to have some fun. Don't be a dick, let's do it!"

The green-clad man shot him a glare, but it was soon to fade when he released a sigh, not seeing an alternative. "I only have in mind her best interests. You both are troublemakers."

"Like we're some kids for you to tell us that," The short-haired young man snickered, "Look! Those masks look awesome! Let's check them out!"

"What part of that did not sound like a child speaking?" The blonde hylian responded evenly, sarcasm coating his voice.

The nun nodded her head, "I-I always wanted one…" She looked up to Link with hopeful eyes, the kind that were disarming, "Link-san… this may be too much to ask, and tracking those persons are far more important, but… but… can you accompany me for a while…?" She averted her gaze suddenly, "I… don't have any friends…"

Link stared at her with a frown slowly emerging, doubtful of such a depressing statement. Was that the truth? He could see that she was now alone, but did that mean that Asia had no friends in that group of hers, whoever they were? There was something clearly wrong with the nun's story.

Then again, she may not be the problem, as she seemed friendly enough.

"I thought she was with you-nya," Confusion adorned Kuroka's features, but for only a few seconds before a smug smile split her face. "So, what are you going to do, Link-chan?"

Link folded his arms, eyes trailing down as he reflected about the current situation.

Asia's group was suspicious, and she may know more than she was letting on. He couldn't let her go away until he uncovered everything behind that group of hers. There's the chance that this group may not be related to his target, but it was a matter worth investigating.

So he had to relent.

"Very well," Link nodded, although still sporting a serious expression. Then, he directed a sharp gaze at the two youkai, "I will keep a close watch on you two."

Bikou raises his hands defensively, "We only mean good, Link. What's with that sudden distrust?"

Link narrowed his gaze in disbelief, folding his arms, "You know far well why."

The Nekomata grasped his arm, "Link-nya! Aren't we partners fighting for the same cause-nya?"

The Hyrule-born stared at her, trying to conjure in his mind a possible reason for their presence. What she said, however, was the truth, but these were different circumstances.

Link's expression darkened, "Not right now." Yet he was quick to relax his posture, the edge on his eyes fading as he turned to the shy nun. There was no use in keeping such a hostile demeanour in front of the nun. "Lead the way."

"Heheh! Let's go!" Bikou smirked, "I'm starving!" He exclaimed, patting his armored belly. Brown eyes meet the green ones of the shy nun as he stood at her side, "What's your name?"

"…A-Asia Argento…" She responded shyly, managing a soft smile. "N-nice to meet you, umm…"

"Call me Bikou," He pointed a finger at himself, then at the attractive young woman, "And she's Kuroka."

The sly girl leant to the nun, so close that made her blush, "She's really cute… I might be a little jealous."

The blonde sighed, "Do not tease her Kuroka." And as he turned around, his gaze caught sight of a nearby shooting-game stand, a group of children gathered by it, jumping cheerfully and asking to be the next in turn. "Mm? That might be interesting."

Link smiled to himself, recalling several occasions in which he had played a similar game in order to get prizes. While in Hyrule he did so with his bow, here one was apparently granted a shooting device that resembled a fire weapon that shot corks.

He was more than willing to give it a shot now that they were meaning to have a good time.

"Getting fired up already?" Bikou asked in amusement.

"Not really."

Didn't mean he would let his guard down.

Part 9

"Hehe!" Bikou grinned, "Hanabi is always great, don't you think Asia?"

The male youkai got no response, for the nun's attention was entirely directed at the sky, jaw hanging in awe as multiple fireworks covered the night sky, displaying a variety of colours one after another. She was seated alongside Kuroka and Bikou by the outskirts of the shrine, in one of the best spots they could find to enjoy the colorful scenery.

Link stood by a tree nearby, leaning on it, while observing the fireworks monotonously. While the other three enjoyed them, he was far from doing so due to some past experiences. He had seen fireworks countless of times after all, during the span of three days. Again and again, and again. He felt nothing from gazing at the beautiful colors that painted the sky.

If anything, he felt somber as fireworks only brought memories of a time he'd rather forget.

In the end, however, he would not forget, even if given the chance, as that adventure had made him stronger in every sense of the word, and had changed his view on reality.

Link's gaze trailed to the trio, noticing Kuroka's blank expression. While he knew nothing about her past, besides the fact that she was a wanted criminal inside the devil society for reasons he had yet to uncover, he had come to witness her good will and caring nature. Although this was usually overshadowed by the bold, and clingy personality she displayed.

He could have asked her directly of course, but further interaction would have allowed the Nekomata more chances to flirt with him, and Link seriously had got tired of such nonsense. Kuroka was a striking young cat-woman by all means, but not inside his range of interests.

"I've never seen fireworks… they're so pretty…" Bubbled the nun excitedly.

"Never…?" Kuroka blinked, apparently having left her train of thought, and sweatdropped, "Where were you living before, in a basement-nya?"

Asia stuck out her tongue cutely, "I'm… Im glad I came here, meeting such wonderful people." She smiled to herself, hands pressed on her chest, eyes dropping. "I had so much fun… at least for today."

The monkey Youkai cocked an eyebrow, scratching the back of his head, "Pheh! You speak like this will be your last time."

"Hehe," Asia giggled, but her eyes betrayed her, showing sadness instead, "When I return, I won't…" She muttered, and then noticed her own reaction and started panicking. "I-I mean, I just…"

Whatever she was going to say came to an end when Bikou suddenly stood up, eyes widened in surprise, "What's that!?"

Link blinked, giving some few steps forward as Kuroka and Asia followed, the latter gasping, "The town… it's burning! Did the firew-"

Folding her arms over her chest, Kuroka shook her head, "It's not the fireworks. Someone has started a fire-nya."

Link's expression hardened, blue orbs already glaring at the members of the Vali Team, suspicion rising, "Do you two have anything to do with this?"

"I already told you that we are just visiting-"

A loud explosion roared from some blocks away from the shrine, more gasps and murmurs erupting within the townsfolk. Link's gaze gained sharpness as he quickly examined the situation, crafting a course of action.

Fire in such a forested area was by all means dangerous to a worrying scale, so helping the citizens was definitely the first thing to do in Link's plan. Only then would he focus on finding the perpetrators of the sudden fire.

"Bikou, evacuate the citizens in the north, where the fire started," He nodded his head, apparently not minding Link's command, and now that he thought about it, not even in the past he did. "Kuroka, come with me."

"Hehe, I love when you get demanding-nya," Chirped the nekomata with a wink.

Bright red started to paint the city's horizon, fire spreading at a fast rate, the sounds of more screams and faraway explosions echoing. The trees that once sheltered so many with their canopy of green were becoming lifeless sticks of charcoal.

The wailing sirens of police vehicles resounded in the distance. It was dreadful to witness that Kawabe Town had been submerged into chaos in only a few minutes.

Uncovering the truth behind Asia's organization would have to wait given these dire development, Link concluded.

They had to act fast, or else, this town would be nothing but a scorched clearing.

"Asia, you must seek cover," Link advised, patting her head. "Find your group if possible and stay safe."

"But I can help," She unexpectedly argued, and Link could sense her will in every word spoken. He wasn't sure how to take such a declaration, but her participation could end up being detrimental, so he couldn't- "I have the power to do it."

The hylian observed her closely, then sighed, "Asia, I understand that you would desire to offer support, but we cannot afford to wast-"

Link's retort was cut short when the blonde nun pressed her hands against her chest, a green glow spreading from her hands, certainly a supernatural display of power that proved her statement. "Link-san, I can cure any injured person."

Bikou smirked, glancing at him while Kuroka smiled in amusement, "Nya… who would have thought that she would be a sacred gear user…" Elbowing Link playfully, she added, "You do know where to pick them, Link-nya."

"Heh, she can cure people then?" Bikou leant towards her, and grinned, patting her head playfully, "Do you possess any offensive capabilities?"

"I… I can only cure with it…" She closed her eyes and looked up at the sky, hands intertwined in a praying position. "It's a power bestowed upon me by the Lord."

Since Sacred Gears were created by the Biblical God, she was in fact correct, although he suspected she only affirmed so because of her faith in her religion. It seemed Link was correct about Asia Argento after all, she's worth investigating.

Still, even with such an ability, was that enough for him to let her face danger when she probably never had?

It took him only a couple of seconds to reach a decision.

"Fair enough," Link nodded his head, deciding that wasting her ability to heal the wounded would be senseless. He turned to the former Monkey King, keen senses at the ready in case the wind blew their way. "Bikou, take her with you. If what she says is the truth, then we can prevent casualties."

"Yeah, yeah. Whatever you say, Boss," He picked up the unsuspecting nun, putting her body over his shoulder with one fluid movement.

"E-eh?" Asia flushed red, covering her face in embarrassment.

"I'm gonna take us both there, little Asia," He stated confidently, which was undeniably true.

The nun glanced Link's way, clearly intimidated, but he gave her a reassuring nod. "Ok, I-I hope I'm not too heavy…"

He shrugged his shoulders, "Don't worry, I'll live." Letting out a snicker, he turned around, with Asia fidgeting over his shoulder. "Here hoping I can find someone strong to fight there," Bikou commented as he started to move towards his destination, only coming to a halt when his name was called again.

"Bikou," Link glared at him with dry eyes, "The safety of the townsfolk is imperative, do not forget that."

"With whom do you think you're talking to?" He finally leaped down with a screaming nun on his shoulder, "Flying Nimbus!" Suddenly, some sort of cloud emerged by his feet, both landing safely over it. The nun could barely realize what had happened before the cloud sailed at incredible speed towards the burning area, the two soon disappearing from his sight.

Some light steps caught Link's attention. It was the female youkai, whose golden eyes displayed that usual slyness despite the harrowing circumstances. "My, my… Could it be that you wanted to be left alone with me-nya?"

He turned to her with a neutral expression, "In fact, yes." His sudden declaration made her blink, "I am currently hunting down a stray exorcist called Freed Sellzen, who was sighted along with his group in this prefecture."

"So you're after him, too?" Kuroka admitted uncaringly, "We do continue to share the same goals-nya." She leaned to him, her chest bouncing slightly, "I still don't understand why you don't join us."

'I knew it. This may have something to do with the Khaos Brigade… But I should have known if that was the case. Then… it is just for Sun Wukong?'

Link folded his arms, closing his eyes as he assumed a stoic stance, "I am already a member of another faction if you have forgotten. Besides, I am now considered as a threat by devils, which makes Vali Lucifer my natural enemy."

"You know that's not true-nya," Kuroka put her hands on her hip, amusement coating her seductive voice"You're just being a Tsun-Tsun."

Link merely rolled his eyes, finding that statement ridiculous, "I beg to differ." He spun around and sprinted forward, the Nekomata following with light, quick steps. "Why are you tracking Freed Sellzen? He is considered a criminal by the Catholic Church, and the Council had declared him an enemy of God. Why would your group be after him?"

As they left the shrine, she responded, "It seems he was a bad boy, who stole a magical bracelet that belonged to Sun Wukong, so we tracked him all the way to this country-nya," She elaborated, cat ears popping out from her head, with two tails by her rearguard.

Link knew Kuroka had finally entered her full Nekomata form, showing those animalesque-traits on her body. That meant one thing to him, "Kuroka." He called her name, standing still.

"Nya?"

"I am positive that this sudden chaos is the work of Freed Sellzen's group, but I need to capture him and his followers. Do not fight to kill."

"Soooo boring…" She looked away in disinterest, a hand resting casually on her wide hips, "But you can't blame me if I do so in self-defense-nya."

The young Hylian walked to her, standing before the Nekomata with a curt expression, "No poison spells, and do please control your chi-based abilities. There is no need for killing."

"But from what I know, these stray exorcists have already killed many people. Mostly all those that made a contract with devils," She gazed at him with a defiant expression, "Honestly, I think they deserve to die-nya."

Link cocked an eyebrow, sensing a strange ring in her tone, definitely unusual for someone as relaxed as her. She did mean it, he realized.

"If you value our partnership, then at least try."

Kuroka pursed her lips, evidently displeased, "Fine…" She suddenly disappeared, having used a spell similar to Farore's Wind, only to reappear over a rooftop. She displayed a sadistic smile, not exactly the one he expected to see after she agreed with his terms, "Alright, Link-chan. I won't kill anybody, but I'm planning to have fun, so don't mind the screams-nya."

And with that statement, dark blue particles of light covered the black-haired youkai before she was gone from his sight. Link narrowed his gaze before dashing forward.

A new explosion rocked the area as Link moved through the fleeing crowds and into the town's plaza. A little girl tripped to the ground, but he lifted her up as she cried, looking around amidst the chaos.

"Okaa-chan!" The little girl sobbed on his shoulder.

Link pressed his lips as he eventually spotted a woman who kept screaming "Yukiko!" run down the crowded street. Shoving people aside, he moved to intercept her.

The girl's cry came to a stop when her mother made eye contact with her, the latter approaching hurriedly as best as she could within the sea of fleeing people.

Link let the child go, and she embraced her mother like there was no tomorrow, "Thank you!" The woman bowed to him in appreciation before fleeing, her daughter in her arms.

He would make sure they had a tomorrow to look forward to.

Advancing, the hylian spotted a large water container over the tallest building on the town, apparently belonging to a multinational enterprise. Using the Longshot, he climbed the structure with ease, the blade cleaving the cement with little resistance each time he used it.

Finally reaching the water container, a fiery orb materialized on his palm, and with it, he made a hole on the container's metallic wall. The orb of fire disappeared once water started to leak, Link casting another spell as many walls of light were created from the hole, extending in all directions as the leaking water was redirected in order to pour where the fire burned most intensely.

Such was enough to stop the fire on this side of the town.

From the rooftop, Link came to see various groups of men wearing white robes with hoodies, wielding light swords about a block away.

Such swords were part of the usual weaponry exorcists were provided with, however, how come this many people possessed them? The only excommunicated exorcist in Japan should be Freed Sellzen, meaning that only he should possess that kind of weaponry.

Maybe Freed had somehow stolen them, and distributed it among his followers. Link knew he had to delve deep into this matter as there was the possibility of a traitor inside the ranks of the Roman Catholic Church supplying resources to criminals.

Dulio had commented as much once, and Link hadn't forgotten it.

Wasting no time, he climbed down and reached them within minutes, intercepting the slash of one of them, thus preventing the death of a policeman. Giving one mighty kick to the hooded figure, the man crashed against a wall as Link stood before them, the Kokiri Dagger materializing in his hand.

It was a large group, not even mentioning those that Kuroka may be handling herself, or the possible group that Bikou may have encountered on his side. He just hoped the nun was safe as she didn't seem at all the type to handle a fight.

"Who are you?" The Japanese agent of order inquired, visibly scared.

Link glanced at him, "Someone that can help."

"Who?" Frowned the man, apparently not catching up.

"Leave now," Link commanded, yet the man looked at him in disbelief, "Should you stay, death is all that will await you" With that warning, he gazed sharply at the policeman long enough for him to panic and run away. Seeing his fleeing form, he finally walked towards the group, "I come in the name of the Catholic Church," Exclaimed Link firmly, "Cease your hostilities and surrender, or prepare for battle."

A dark green-haired man with a black attire gave some steps on a rooftop, at Link's left, resting a pistol of sorts on his shoulder. Unlike the rest, he seemed to actually be european. "They sent the Jade Knight after us…"

"Wait… Shouldn't we run?!" Another screamed, showing fear. "You mentioned the so called Jade Knight was dangerous!"

One of them scratched his head, not recognizing the name, "Jade Knight? Who's that?"

"He's said to be one of the new generation of exorcists. One of the strongest," The man that stood out from the rest responded to his partner.

That was enough to create uncertainty among them, and interestingly enough, they brought it upon themselves without Link having to speak.

"He's going to capture us all!"

"Run!"

"Stop all of you! We have to find the artifact!" Link raised a brow as the green-haired man pointed the gun towards his head, "I, Lucius Headstrong, won't disappoint Mistress Raynare!"

'Raynare?' Link mused, not recognizing the name. He could see they wore attires related to religious themes, but Freed Sellzen was nowhere to be seen. Maybe another group of defectors from the church had ended up here.

"Whatever!" Another one of them sneered, "If we fail here, she'll kill us anyway… or that freak of Freed."

Link's pointed ears perked up at the mention of his target's name.

'Jackpot…' Link smirked, recalling a quote from a certain whitehead, 'That is what he would have said, huh…'

"There's a Nekomata three blocks away from here!" A man shouted, appearing from the left avenue. Link could see that fear took hold of his face, "She's a class SS youkai! At this rate…"

"Mistress Raynare won't reward cowards with such a weak resolve! He's only a man, nothing more than that! We'll take him down before dealing with the cat monster," Lucius exclaimed as they moved to engage, and the blonde tensed in anticipation. "Let's go all out with him."

Link's keen eyes quickly scanned the soon-to-be battlefield, They were many, the majority wielding light swords while a couple of them carried crossbows. Taking into consideration the amount of innocent people still in the area, he had to be careful with how to approach the oncoming fight, not to mention that he was in plain sight of the enemy forces.

Only that man called Lucius Headstrong seemed focused. Seeing his stance and the fact that he was a foreigner gave Link enough evidence to know that he was a full-fledged exorcist, although excommunicated, unlike the fanatic lot he was accompanied with.

Whatever the case, calling their attention long enough for the fleeing citizens to make their escape was the first step of his strategy. Only then would he engage them in combat, which was the main reason why he let himself into the open despite the fact that he would be in a disadvantageous position.

"The holy church offers you the chance to redeem yourselves," He spoke with a firm tone, loud enough for all of them to hear, "Surrender now and avoid a senseless confrontation."

"What for? To have the church erase our memories!?" One of them spat angrily, "We're better on our own than with your extremist lot!"

Link narrowed his gaze dangerously, "I would understand if any of you decide to abandon the Catholic institution for this particular reason," He closed his eyes for some seconds before stepping forward, opening them to show a sharp gaze, "But to use the power you obtained in the institution to harm innocent people? You all had committed crimes, and you all shall be detained to prevent the death of more innocent people."

"Innocent people, you say?" The man with dark-green hair jumped from the roof with ease and walked towards the blonde, "What a naive lad we have here. They deserved it! They sided with the accursed devils and made contracts with them. Death is their punishment for such blasphemy!"

Shouts erupted among them, supporting the stray exorcist's claim. Link observed the area once more, it was almost deserted by now, with a few men running away, far away in the distance. Thankfully, his act had kept all of them focused on him.

Link scrutinized the enemy force.

He was indeed correct about the fact that most of them were simple followers, religious fanatics in fact, and had no direct connection to the church as most displayed asian traits. He knew well that Catholics were few in Asian countries, so whoever led them must have earned their favour and loyalty somehow. Maybe this Raynare had something to do with it.

"Is that so?" Link asked with a raised eyebrow, slightly irritated, "Then who do you serve exactly? Who is this Raynare?" His grip tightened on the dagger as he continued, "You all have been tempted, everyone one of you. It is as clear as water."

Lucious laughed. "You're simply a blind dog of the church."

Link's facial features hardened, "What were you promised? Power? Riches and dominance over a territory? …happiness? It is clear that none of you are better than those humans that made contracts with devils because you are as greedy as them. Your sense of righteousness is hypocritical."

"I won't tolerate such accusations!" Lucius roared angrily and shot several times his weapon, but Link simply disappeared within a display of green light before any bullet could impact. Standing now over a roof, the blonde warrior glared at him, "I knew you were a spellcaster. Kill him!"

Roars erupted, many bolts and bullets being fired at Link. Using Farore's Wind once more, he teleported out of harm's reach, reappearing over another rooftop, only to blink as a bolt flew straight to his head. Link used the dagger and deflected the projectile in time.

'I need to take down the crossbowmen first.'

With that in mind, Link teleported multiple times, nearing them each time he did. With the last teleport, he appeared over them. Both armed fanatics reacted to shoot at him while he fell over them, but the bolts were deflected once more by the Kokiri Dagger. Link punched the man at his left upon reaching him, before teleporting back to the previous falling position, this time though punching the man at his right.

Before hitting the ground, Link teleported once more to a higher position for him to spin mid-air and land on his feet, a feat done flawlessly. The fanatics stood there, shocked by the display of prowess Link just pulled before their eyes.

"That teleportation magic is nearly as advanced as the one of a Nekomata," Lucius growled, "You spoke of yourself as an exorcist in favor of the Church, yet the Nekomata attacking us is your ally! You must have learnt to teleport like that from her. You're no better than those filthy humans!"

Link pointed the dagger at him, "You talk too much."

Sprinting towards the group, Link jumped from roof to roof. He crouched to avoid the slash of the first man on his way, and kicked him on the stomach, forcing the man to kneel in pain as he fought the urge to vomit as a response to the impact.

Another one followed, slashing at him viciously, but Link dodged accordingly before cleaving the Kokiri dagger on his attacker's shoulder, making him drop his weapon. The man barely had time to scream in pain as he found himself being punched right in the face before fading out.

Two more charged at him, only to crash against the mighty Hylian Shield. Link pushed forward and tackled them down and off from the roof, both of them crashing harshly with the ground.

"Where is Freed Sellzen?" Link inquired fiercely, his bangs dancing with the nightly, ashe-filled winds.

Lucius blinked, "You're looking for that lunatic?" He laughed, covering his face with a palm, "You should have said so from the beginning! We actually wanted to get rid of him!" He exchanged a glance of complicity with the others, "I don't know why our mistress keeps that man with us, but if you capture him, we would be so grateful. We can even lead you to him."

Link raised a brow, assuming an expression of disbelief, "Is that so?" His blue eyes were narrowed, "I accept, but you will have to surrender nonetheless. I cannot let you go for the crimes you have committed."

"Then we've reached an impasse, Jade Knight," The stray exorcist chided coldly, "We've gained the favor of Mistress Raynare and some exorcist is not going to stop us now!"

Link returned the shield to his back, and the Kokiri Dagger into the knife holder as they started to move again, occupying every rooftop Link could have used to escape. Since fleeing wasn't part of Link's strategy, he smirked and pulled the Hero's Bow, taking an arrow from the quiver hanging from his back and notching it.

Then, he took aim.

"You still have one last chance to surrender," Link stated with determination, "Should you fail to comply, I am afraid you will have to suffer the consequences."

Lucius Headstrong looked at him impassively, "We have already decided the path we'll follow, and I intend to do so until my end."

"I admire your resolution," Link tensed the arrow aimed at their apparent leader, "Still, crimes were committed, which cannot be ignored."

And with that statement, he let the arrow sail through the air and towards his target. The stray green-haired exorcist blinked in shock and had no time to even move as the arrow passed near his right cheek and cleaved some sort of wooden panel behind him that displayed publicity for lemon soda.

Lucius blinked before letting out a laugh, "Your aim is off exorcist." Others followed his laugher, "Or was that a warning shot?"

The blonde warrior put one foot back, hanging the Hero's Bow on his shoulder and gripping with both hands something that couldn't be seen at normal sight. His opponents frowned upon this, Lucius's gaze trailing once more to his side, when he finally noticed.

There was a really thin thread, and it was apparently connected to the arrow cleaving the wooden panel. It was already too late when they realized the intent behind the Jade Knight's purpose on 'failing' the shot, when it happened.

"Hyah!" Link roared, pulling the thread back, the arrow bringing the wooden panel down and towards their group. As he had planned, three of them were crushed, the other spreading to the sides to prevent getting hit, thus losing their focus and position.

'The Lace arrows worked yet again.'

An item he acquired during his short stay in the Norse Lands in a dwarven weapon shop, these Lace Arrows were attached to a magical thread made through the means of alchemy and magic. Forged by Dwarves, both the arrow and the thread were made of Gleipnir, a highly durable metal that only existed in Niðavellir, home of the Dwarves and one of the Nine Worlds in Norse Mythology.

He recalled receiving mixed reactions from other exorcists when he purchased these arrows, as Gleipnir was considered a pagan metal. Since Link wasn't an extremist or narrow-minded, he gave no importance to the dislike this item seemed to have.

Link jumped to the next roof, and shot two ordinary arrows, piercing one of them in the leg, and another by his shoulder. A man jumped from his left to slash at him with a light sword, but Link sidestepped, avoiding it and tackled him off of the rooftop.

Scanning his surroundings, Link counted the remaining foes. They were nine, including the only one that wasn't just a fanatic, Lucius Headstrong. Pulling out from his quiver another Lace arrow, he notched and took aim at Lucius, before deciding to get a better position before releasing the string. As he sprinted, he shot towards a tall structure, the Gleipnir-made arrowhead advancing between them and cleaving the cement of a structure.

"You can't pull down a whole building, mate!" One of them mocked, "Too bad that you- ugh!"

Link sprinted to the left, the thread attached to the arrow in his grip. As he circled them, the thread dragged seven of them back to slam the wall harshly, the metal pressing their bodies against the solid surface. With the thread tied up around a ventilation system, they were incapacitated.

Suddenly, Link blinked at the sound of something bouncing near his position, only to notice a white flask near his feet. Not wasting a single second, he teleported away as a fiery explosion rocked the area, all nearby buildings collapsing along with the neutralized men.

"Tch!" Lucius tightened his teeth, "You're one slippery heretic!"

Fire spread across the town by the north, illuminating many areas of the district.

The man pulled out another flask, but Link wasn't going to let him cause more destruction. Teleporting two times, he covered the distance between, pulling out the Kokiri Dagger and throwing it at his hand. The man cried out in pain, letting go of the flask, yet before it hit the ground, Link teleported and grabbed it in time.

Rolling forward before standing up, he observed the object. It was a holy bomb, which was an Exorcist-issued equipment, used to deal with devils in masses as it released a barrage of holy fire. Even if it was meant to be used only against devils, its radius of destruction was considerably large.

"You!" The man growled, pointing his gun at him, "Time to die!" He shot at Link multiple times, however, each bullet imbued with holy magic impacted on the Hylian Shield.

The Jade Knight quickly sprinted towards him with the shield raised, moving like a battering ram and crashing roughly against his face. Lucius was blown away forcefully, his body rolling and falling from the rooftop. Link leaned over the edge to see him unmoving. The structure wasn't tall enough for the fall to be fatal, so he knew that Lucius was most likely unconscious due to the shield bash.

The only one left was fleeing, running between burning streets. Link jumped down from the rooftop to give chase, however, he came to a stop when something large fell over the unsuspecting man, completely obliterating his body, only leaving a sickening sight of lifeless broken extremities and a spanding pool of blood.

Link widened his eyes, momentarily in shock, before narrowing his gaze as he scrutinized the new presence before him. He knew then and there that this was an enemy, one not to be taken lightly. It was far from resembling anything he had seen.

This new presence was large and bulky, wearing a large coat that covered his entire body, with a big metal belt on the middle, from which chains hung. Some sort of metal chest armor covered his front, metallic spaulders his shoulders, one of them showing the face of a horned creature, while large bracelets covered his arms. This being used an amulet that had the form of a skull with horns.

Finally, its head was as big, and also looked metallic, most likely some sort of helm, which had two large horns that made it resemble a bull, and a chain circled each one of them. The only opening on it let Link notice one large big eye in the upper top, and beneath it, monstrous teeth extended from side to side.

He couldn't describe this thing as anything but a monster.

Link quickly notched an arrow, pointing it at the metallic-looking being, "Who are you?"

The being said nothing, and stood there immobile, it's only eye locked on him.

Since no reply was made, Link's eyes were narrowed as a blue aura began to originate from the arrowhead, spreading all across the arrow. The mighty Ice Arrow began to accumulate power as Link continued to tense the string.

Soon, the metallic being raised a hand, Link tensing in anticipation, "Hyrule-born known as Link, one of the D Wanderers. You have broken the rules of Singularity multiPle times, thus the verdict had been given. The Order Hereby Pronounce you guilty. The 'Metal Constellation' Will be your downfall."

'Metal Constellation?'

Link frowned, "Should that be the truth, I demand that you elaborate on this accusation."

The fearsome figure made a fist before it's face, "Leave this world, or suffer the consequences."

With that statement, the metallic being shone a dark red, before a bright symbol of sorts flashed before it. Seconds later, the dark being disappeared without leaving a trace, only leaving behind a mutilated body.

Link stared at it in silence without saying a word, his blue eyes reflecting the distant fire.

"Oh my!" Kuroka jumped from a roof, lading by his side, "I think you went a little overboard with that guy-nya. I thought you didn't kill-"

"What is the Metal Constellation?" Link inquired gravely, his gaze still locked on the mutilated body.

The Nekomata raised a brow, "Metal Constellation?" She folded her arms, raising her gaze as if lost in thought, "You do know about constella-"

"I know a constellation is a group of stars that forms an imaginary outline, or meaningful pattern," Link interrupted her and elaborated, "These could either represent an animal, a mythological person or creature, even a god."

Kuroka deadpanned, "No need to give me the whole meaning. I know that already-nya…"

"A strange being that resembles a large man with a heavy, metal armor killed that man," He explained, finally turning to her with a grim expression. "It claimed that I was an enemy of the Metal Constellation."

Link purposely didn't mention the part of him breaking the laws of singularity, and that he was warned to leave this world, since his trust in Kuroka was weak. It was now clear that she held no knowledge of this subject at all. However, he had no idea of what Singuarity meant, so he took a mental note of it. The list of research yet to be done never ceased to increase.

"Metal Constellation-nya?" Repeated the feline youkai, "Never heard of it, though I wouldn't be surprised if there was a group with that name-nya. Maybe it was a strong devil using a sacred gear?"

"What I saw was far from being a mere devil, and I doubt that armor was a sacred gear. It somehow resembled a bull… or…" Link folded his arms, recalling a monster he fought in the Queen's continent. "A minotaur maybe."

Kuroka smiled, "It'd make sense if you take into account the name Metal Constellation-nya," Link nodded his head as she leant over his arm, "Maybe he represented the zodiac sign Taurus?"

That actually made a lot of sense when she put it like that. And with that theory also came a worrying matter. This could mean that there were eleven more of whatever that being was.

However, all he knew for certain was that he was their target, and as long as he remained ignorant as to why exactly, there could be other targets, and people could die. Being in the dark about this matter… all Link could do was let out a weary sigh in exasperation.

'More problems… huh? More enemies…'

"Kuroka," Link started with a sharp undertone, the cat-woman tilting her head. "When you return to Vali, try asking about that. Maybe he heard about it."

"Will do-nya."

Link nodded his head and aimed three arrows at the same time towards the sky, blue cold energy enveloping them. Letting go of them, he quickly created a small fiery orb that flew towards the three glacial arrows, and exploded on contact with them. Ice spread all over the sky, and melted with Din's Fire, drops falling from the sky until it seemed to be raining.

"That should put off the remaining fire," He commented, glancing at the sky filled with smoke. "Let us take the fanatics to a safe spot, then go to make sure the nun and the other citizens are fine."

"Hai hai-nya!" Kuroka smirked, "These fanatics don't deserve it though."

"Still, we either save everybody, or nobody," Link drawled sternly before moving forward.

Kuroka watched him leave, and shrugged her shoulders, "Whatever you say, Link-chan."

Part 10

"Bikou? What happened-nya?" Kuroka asked worriedly, helping the former Monkey King to his feet.

Link observed the surroundings with a troubled expression. Many houses and some buildings had collapsed, the chaos spread on the surroundings. There were many corpses lying around, from both innocent people and the fanatics. It was a dreadful sight to gaze at.

Bikou had many cuts and scrapes, and blood came out of his mouth.

"Easy there cat girl, easy. I think my ribs are broken, dammit…" He grunted, supporting his weight on his lance. "I would be a goner if it wasn't for my armor."

"What happened?" She pressed, a frown emerging.

The monkey man coughed blood before responding, "I have no idea. Something crashed into a house all of a sudden, and when I realized, screams started coming from all over the place. This large thing with horns started to kill everybody, asking for the D-Wanderer."

Kuroka glanced at Link from the corner of her eyes, "D-Wanderer?"

"Yeah, I have no idea what that is. Tch… that thing caught me off guard. I'd have kicked his butt all the way to hell if I was prepared." He smirked despite the visible injuries on his body, "I'm gonna find that bastard and destroy him, haha!"

The sole fact that this being caused such a visible amount of damage to someone like Bikou spoke of the fighting capabilities of whatever was that being. The implications were worrisome.

"Where is the nun?"

Both youkai turned to the blonde warrior, whose eyes were hidden in the darkness. The monkey man's expression changed dramatically in that moment.

"I don't know…" Bikou responded bitterly.

Link's gaze sharpened visibly, "Did you see Freed Sellzen?"

Bikou blinked, slightly surprised, and then shot a disapproving gaze at the Nekomata. That served enough to be a reply.

"I see," Link walked forward, scanning the area, "Let us look for survivors."

A glare came Link's way, piercing as a needle, courtesy of the cat woman. The hylian knew well the reason behind it, Bikou was her partner after all.

"I can't leave him like that-nya," Kuroka retorted, still supporting her fellow youkai.

The armored man twitched a brow, "I'm fine, don't get so worked up." And yet, he grunted upon attempting to stand on his own, holding his aching torso. "I could use a rest though."

Bikou was a strong individual, his ascendance spoke that much for him, which Link learnt of from several books he purchased some months ago.

With that in mind, Link knew for certain that he'd be fine, however, with the citizens of this town, that was another story. He could understand Kuroka prioritizing her companion, but those without power were at more risk than Bikou would ever be. The choice was as clear as water.

Link nodded his head, fixing his fingerless gloves, "Then I will look for survivors."

The nekomata seemed to disapprove his response, but the monkey Youkai nodded his head, sending a thumbs up to him. The Hylian responded with one of his own and sprinted forward.

o-0-O-0-o

Link, whose gaze acquired a dangerous glint, notched an arrow in the Hero's Bow, and took aim towards an enemy. Honestly, the times where he encountered a fallen angel were very few, with a maximum number of two, and none of them were pleasant.

This would be the third time he did, and the first female fallen angel he had seen.

Violet eyes met his blue ones as the woman stared at him with a scowl. Her black hair was long enough for it to reach her hips, and while she had a slender body, her bust was large. Her attire consisted of blackstrap-like objects that resembled leather around and under her breasts, a thong-like piece held around her hips by three thin straps, gloves that ran right up her arms with small lengths of chains hanging from them, black spaulders with three large spikes sprouting from the right one, and black thigh-high heel boots.

If Link was to describe it, her outfit was nothing but shameless since it showed way too much skin.

As expected of a fallen angel, she sported black feathered wings that protruded from her back, which was a trait that confirmed her as one of that kind. Link started then to suspect that the stray exorcists may be connected to her.

However, even with this new presence in sight, that was far from being the main concern of the Hylian Hero. Link tensed the string, the pulling hand reaching his chin as he had the fallen angel's head as the target.

"Why…?" He asked gravely.

The fallen angel tilted her head, "Why… what?"

His gaze darkened visibly, making the fallen angel blink in surprise at the sudden imposing and deathly expression he displayed. Considering who was lying at the feet of the winged woman, one could understand the dark undertone of the Hylian hero.

After all, the nun he met no so long ago, lay on the ground bloodied, and wounded gravely. She didn't seem to be moving, much to his chagrin. Of course, he attributed the nun's current state to the fallen angel near her.

"Why did you hurt her?" He inquired dryly.

The black-haired fallen angel blinked and pointed a finger at herself, "Hold on a minute… do you think I did this to her?" With arms folded, she sighed, "You knew her?"

However, Link was angry, so he ignored her question and pressed further, "Why did you do this…?"

"I didn't… why would I harm my lovely follower? I needed her, and now…" She gazed at her broken body, frowning, "Whatever happened to her, I can't do anything about it. There's an unknown curse on her body. She'll die soon enough."

Link didn't move one muscle and still kept the string tense, "Then who did?"

A house collapsed due to the fire in the distance as a few seconds elapsed, the hot night winds that carried smoke and ashes with them echoing eerily. "Mmm… I don't know. It was something… it killed many of my followers, and…" She twitched a brow, "What is it to you, whoever the fuck you are?"

"Link," He revealed his name, narrowing his gaze, "And the nun was a friend."

The fallen angel cocked an eyebrow in interest, "Asia was your friend?" She merely glanced at her before twitching a brow, "Well, she's no use to me without the ritual, so her power is as good as lost. You may address me as Raynare, by the way."

Link lowered the bow, "Raynare…" He started, his tone dry, "Do you know Freed Sellzen?"

Folding her arms, she smiled, "Freed? Don't tell me you're actually an exorcist?" She laughed mockingly, "But your ears, aren't you a vampire or a devil?"

"I am the one asking the questions. Do you know him?"

She chuckled in amusement, "What if I do?"

"I shall take you down, should that be the case," Link stated firmly. "Or you can surrender and tell me anything you might know. It is as simple as that."

The woman smiled mockingly, "Let me ask you something. What are your religious lot supposed to do? It's just exorcising devils and spreading the word of your… God?" She raised her arms to the sides, "Will you try and fight me knowing that many humans are dying as we speak?" Link looked around, just realizing the wailing of dying people still in the area. "You can either chase after me or leave them to peril. It's your choice, and rest assured that I'm not easy prey."

Link stared at her, eyes narrowed as he made the respective inner deliberations. To put it simply, it was either capture the fallen angel, who's fighting capabilities were still unknown, or let her escape with whatever information she may have of his target, Freed Sellzen, allowing him to rescue the wounded instead. The call for this situation, however, was obvious for him.

Link hung his bow over his shoulder, and returned the arrow to his quiver.

Raynare laughed, "Good boy." She spun around, looking at Link over her armored shoulder. "Then I hope we don't meet again. I got what I came here for, and I still have to find that kiddo with the Sacred Gear to please my master, so dealing with the church isn't within my main interests right now. Maybe later, I'll have time to spare."

Spreading her black wings, the fallen angel set off. Link watched her for a few seconds as she flew away, before moving towards the dying nun. His expression hardened the instant his eyes landed on her. There was a large hole in her stomach, some sort of gray energy spreading across her large wound. Link suspected that may be the curse Raynare spoke of.

"L-Link-san…?" Her voice echoed, her tone rasped and weak.

"Do not speak. Save your energy," Link said quietly.

"I'm sorry…"

Despite the horrendous state she was in, she managed to smile, yet with it came out blood from her mouth. Link pulled out a bottle that contained a red liquid, and gently helped her drink it. However, nothing happened, much to his chagrin. The wound was fatal, and the curse wasn't letting the potion work somehow. That metallic-looking monster was far more dangerous than he anticipated, giving no chance for recovery should one suffer a blow from it. The nun was unlucky to have stood in its way while on its search for the D-Wanderer.

In a way, it was his fault, as he should have been the one hurt instead of this innocent girl.

"A-at least, I managed to help some people…" She coughed blood, Link bailing a fist in impotence. "…but I was abandoned again…"

Some steps came from behind as the sirens of the ambulances resounded everywhere. Link looked behind him with a sharp gaze to see a group of men approaching, garbed in bulky, ceremonial armors that by sight alone could be recognized as part of a religious order.

"Jade Knight, we heard of the commotion occurring in this town and came to provide support."

Link nodded his head, recognizing the particular accent of the man addressing him, before asking, "With whom do you stand with?"

The man with the helmet extended an arm across his chest, "We belong to the Russian Orthodox Church, sir exorcist," The man presented a scroll with the symbol that belonged to the second most powerful church in the world. "We're the squad dispatched by the Local Council of our Holy Church to hunt down an unknown creature sighted in this country. News of the chaos surrounding this town brought us here."

He examined the scroll closely before asking, "Does this creature resemble an armored, humanoid bull?"

After pocketing the scroll on his belt, the man removed his helmet, showing the face of an aged man with almost white hair, and light blue eyes. The light of his gaze showed the experience that came with a long, eventful life.

"Yes, sir. This same creature attacked and almost killed the Patriarch of Moscow, therefore, we're hunting it down. Our leads took us here. I hope our churches can collaborate on this matter," He looked over his shoulder and continued. "We captured several men that were apparently followers of a fallen angel, which I assume is your reason for being here in Japan."

Link raised an inquisitive eyebrow, yet chose to not show his distrust.

"My target is not a fallen angel, but a stray exorcist called Freed Sellzen."

The armored man nodded his head, "He's probably one of those we captured. Whatever the case, we would like to hear anything you might know about that horned monster, since you have seen it. We'll of course hand the captured men to your church."

Link didn't respond as he mused about this situation. That monster addressed Link as a D Wanderer and warned him to leave, and had apparently become a target of the Russian Orthodox Church. Link knew nothing about it, but he was willing to share his encounter against it with them to keep the good relation both churches had.

"Fair enough, but first, there are-"

"Nyezashta, sir exorcist," The lead of the armored battalion interrupted, "We're already helping the citizens, or at least, those still alive."

"I see, then continue doing so… sir," Link nodded his head in approval.

"Ми наме ис Vladislav Petrov, паладин анд леадер оф тхе цоунцил елите. " The man leant respectfully. "Aт ёур сервице." (My name is Vladislav Petrov, paladin and leader of the council's elite squad. At your service.)

'He is testing my knowledge on his language, it seems. The True language allows me to understand him either way. His previous Italian seemed very fluid despite his russian accent though.'

"It is my pleasure, paladin Vladislav. I am Link," He replied. "How come you know my name as an exorcist?"

"We heard of the Jade Knight's deeds many times," Another man responded, "All the churches are aware of those that excel at hunting devils. Such as Exorcist Gesualdo from the Roman Catholic Church, or Crusader Gallen from the Anglican Church. You have gained recognition among the religious organizations, so it's to be expected that we know of you."

Link nodded, not fully happy with that, "I see." He stepped aside, letting them have a look of the dying nun. "Can you help her?"

Paladin Vladislav Petrov knelt beside her, gentle eyes directed at the nun. He studied the wound on the nun's stomach and shook his head, "I'm afraid we can't help her in that state. That accursed spell flowing across her body must be removed, but only a well prepared spell of purge can do it. She'll die before we can even begin to prepare it, or move her to a suitable location. I'm surprised she's still alive with that kind of wound."

Another armored man stepped to them, "K сожалению, она умрет независимо от того, что мы делаем." (Unfortunately, she'll die no matter what we do.)

"Link-san? Are… are you still there?" The nun's weak voice was heard suddenly, lifeless eyes closing slightly, "…Link-san?"

'She cannot see anymore… must be that hateful curse.'

The blond man knelt before the nun and grasped her hand, still warm, "Yes, Asia. I am here with you."

A tear escaped her eyes, then more followed as her body began to shake, "I… I don't want to die…"

Link stared at her with blank eyes, before dropping his gaze in impotence, pressing her hand in indignation as he was lost at what to do. Once more, he had failed to protect the innocent.

Link cursed inwardly as the memory of that dying soldier, who attempted to stop Ganondorf from giving chase to Zelda and Impa, came back to his mind. When he was a child before obtaining the Master Sword, he encountered him in one of the market's alleys. That was the first time he witnessed a person dying before his eyes.

One of those memories that had always stuck in his mind.

He was too young then to fully understand the implications behind those heartbreaking circumstances, yet he still blamed himself for being powerless.

And now, even as an adult, he still had failed to prevent the massacre of this town… had failed to protect this innocent girl. He couldn't leave things like this.

But then, what could he do?

Vladislav sighed, before he and his battalion made a cross sign with a hand in respect of the soon to die girl. Some few silent seconds passed before the paladin stood up, "Continue with the evacuation," He commanded, motioning a hand to his squad. "We still have much to do."

"It will be done," They responded in unison.

The paladin bowed respectfully to the blonde, his armor reflecting the surrounding sources of light, "I assume Sir Link would appreciate some privacy to bid his farewell to her. May you find peace, little nun."

With that, the paladin put on back his winged helmet and they split in all directions.

The silence returned as Link still gripped the nun's hand. She coughed more blood before speaking, "There… there were so many things I… I… wanted to do… but… it seems that I'll never be able to do them… hehe…" Link's gaze darkened as she smiled again despite her teary eyes.

It was too late for her.

And so he waited for the inevitable to occur, each second longer than the last.

Link never blinked until Asia finally closed her eyes slowly, the little strength in her hand loosening completely. He didn't let go, and stared at her in silence.

Her life had forcefully come to a premature end.

"She did not deserve this terrible fate… no one here did…" He muttered guiltily, "Damn it…" And cursed bittlerly, dropping his gaze for he knew he had failed.

Silence followed for several seconds. The distant shouts of men giving commands, people still requesting help and the collapse of more structures was all that could be heard in the distance.

And yet, Link only closed his eyes, embracing her.

All of a sudden, a large symbol spread under Link and the nun's body, shining brightly before both disappeared within a flash of intense light, all that remained was the blood on the nun.

Part 11

The blond man looked around, startled, as he found himself inside a forest, with no visible people in his line of sight. His attention was drawn to several cracks forming before him, ones that Link recognized instantly. There was only one being capable of breaking the space and reality with such ease.

A draconian large eye appeared before him, between the cracks, "It's a pity, she had an interesting ability."

"I could care less about that. She deserved to live," Link growled, standing up, defiance shining brightly on his eyes. "If you have come to pretend that you care for humans, then save us both time and leave, unless you have something to tell me."

"Hoh… the little punk's angry," His grave voice resounded in the area, birds and rodents fleeing under its might. "Huh, have you become an airhead or what? It seems you've forgotten that you were granted the power to bring people back from the death."

The hylian narrowed his gaze at such a statement, stance shifting to one of surprise, "What are you talking about?"

"Hahaha! Such a forgetful bastard. In any case, that's all I'm gonna say." Link deadpanned, before releasing a sigh. Great Red continued then, "So the bastards of the Metal Constellation have decided to shove their shitty ass faces into the fray? Since you had broken their rules, they'll hunt you down 'till you're dead.

"I fear no death," Link stated with conviction.

A laugh came from the cracks, "Is that so? You know, I'm in a good mood today, so... I'll offer you the chance to get back to your world before they come to kick your sorry ass. Whatcha say, kid? I'm being very generous."

"Are you, by any chance, testing my determination, Great Red?" Link asked seriously, golden locks of hair dancing with the night breeze, "I promised I would not go back until my mission is complete, and this reality is safe. Save that for when I am successful."

"So confident, heh?" Another laugh echoed darkly in the surroundings, "Fair enough, kid. I'll leave your ass alone for now. I knew you'd say that anyway, and hell, I'm not disappointed. Keep entertaining me then, kid."

And as the cracks began to close, Link asked, "What is the Metal Constellation?"

"I wouldn't dare to spoil you the fun, kid. I wish you luck," With a narrowed gaze, Link folded his arms as the voice of the mighty dragon came one last time, "Oh, about your… friend. It seems she's having a bit of a fucking problem with the technology of this world. I'd suggest you get this shit done quick before that brat attracts more attention to herself."

Chuckling, the voice of Great Red faded, the cracks vanishing completely as if they never existed. Silence engulfed his surroundings as Link was left lost in thought. His gaze drifted to the body of Asia Argento, a victim of the circumstances.

Link's gaze fell to his gloved hand, then making a fist.

"Do I really have that power?" Link muttered to himself, raising the fist before his face. Suddenly, a sharp glint invaded his blue eyes. "I do not… but he does."

The fist was opened, a blue orb of light shining in his palm as a blue crystal expanded from it, revealing from inside a small object, an item… a mask. Link's expression hardened as the crystal faded, only the object remaining over his hand.

The Fierce Deity Mask.

It had been over a year since he last used it, and he was actually glad he hadn't. However, this could very well be the time to do so since this mask held the power the Great Red referred to, a power that was granted to him by one of the Satans, Ajuka Beelzebub himself.

Link observed it for several seconds, his expression darkening before he finally put it on. A massive amount of power was unleashed as Link staggered slightly, a muffled cry that soon became a mighty growl, resounding fiercely across the forest.

Trees shook violently, the grass blowing with each released pulse before it all ended in a final flash.

Where a green-garbed blonde man once stood, now was a white-haired one, sporting a sky blue tunic under a chest armor. A fearsome turquoise aura enveloped him as the Dark God looked at the distance, his eyes devoid of iris shining mistically.

Only a few seconds passed before Fierce Deity Link turned towards the corpse of Asia Argento. He said nothing, he felt nothing, no pity, nor regret, but he knew there was something he could do. Even if the dark mask erased those kind of emotions, the task he had in mind before putting on the mask remained imprinted in his mind.

The Fierce Deity knelt before her body, and raised a hand, turquoise energy concentrating over his palm before a tiny object appeared floating over it. With a narrowed gaze, he stared neutrally at the object in question.

It was an Evil Piece.

Recalling what Ajuka said to him one year ago more or less, Evil Pieces were chessboard pieces, created by him using crystals found in the Agreas Island on the Underworld, with the purpose of replenishing the number of devils after the Great War took the lives of countless of them with it.

The green Satan mentioned that these were commonly given to pure-blooded high Class devils, allowing them to reincarnate other species as devils, gathering servants of their own. However, even reincarnated devils had the chance of receiving evil pieces should they increase their status and become High-class or Ultimate-class devils apparently.

These pieces, however, could only be used by devils after the King Monument, located in the Demon Lord's Castle, registered a devil as King, thus obtaining the magical chessboard, and also the ability of reincarnating other beings with them.

The Fierce Deity was of course an exception.

The magic within the mask had somehow transcribed the runes on the King Monument, changing the filter of only 'Devils' to 'Devils and Terminians', thus allowing the Fierce Deity to be registered as a King, therefore, gaining the power to use them as any Top-Class Devil could.

However, despite that Ajuka had given him the default chessboard set of Evil Pieces, he had yet to use any of them. In all honesty, Link never planned on using them since he wasn't planning on creating any ties with anyone in this world.

But, if he could at least bring this girl back, with him having the power to do so, then why not simply do it? Once done, he could just leave her in the church's care since she was a nun, where she would be able to continue her life. That's the least he could do.

However, while he was hesitant before, with the mask on, Link only had the task in mind, no useless feelings getting in the way.

One Queen, two Bishops, two Rooks, two Knights and eight Pawns were at his disposal, yet he had already decided on a certain piece.

A Bishop piece shone mistically over his palm, a piece he had chosen because of her apparent ability to cast magic, mentioned by both the nun in question and that fallen angel. As he learnt from a book supplied by the Green Satan, a rook piece could enhance any magic ability this nun may have had, so this particular piece was probably the best call.

However, before he could attempt to do it, he had to remove the curse eating her body and soul. Extending his palm at her, the Fierce Deity closed his eyes briefly, only to open them as turquoise electricity spread from his palm over the nun's body. In a matter of seconds, the malicious curse was gone thanks to one of the few spells Link could only use when wearing the Fierce Deity Mask.

A variation of the spell Purge, he named a weaker version of it, Dispel. He was capable of completely removing magic and curses with the lesser one. It should be noted that while Purge did just the same, this one also purified and destroyed Evil.

With the curse gone for good, the Dark God knelt and placed the Bishop piece over her chest. Stepping back, he then raised a hand and started to chant the words needed for the ritual.

And as he began, a turquoise magic circle appeared beneath Asia's body, with a form far different from those he had seen created by the Gremory or the Bael, and it seemed to be related to the Fierce Deity since it displayed the symbols depicted on his armor, but also an instrument of sorts.

Focusing once more, he continued, "I, Link, command by my name, to thee, Asia Argento, to allow thy soul to descend to this Earth once more, and to become my…" He stopped for a moment, but then quickly continued, "…my faithful servant."

His raised hand was bailed into a fist, the magic circle shining brightly and releasing soft pulses. The sky blue cap and his bangs flowed with each pulse as he finally spoke the last words of the chant, "As your new Master, I grant you… a new life."

The Rook Piece radiated with intense turquoise light before entering her body. The Fierce Deity watched as a glow of the same color covered her entire being, the large wound healing and closing completely until there was no sign of damage.

Silence followed as the pulses were no more, alongside the aura covering Asia's body. The Dark God said nothing and stared at her for a few seconds before removing the mask. With a flash, the young blond man stood once more before the girl, noting a green glow on her chest that faded as fast as it appeared.

Some seconds passed as he waited for any visible reaction.

Her eyes suddenly started to react and move, allowing Link to release a sigh of relief. Eventually, she raised half of her body, green eyes displaying her confusion, "Huh?"

Link sat in front of her, cross-legged and sporting a smile, "Welcome."

She blinked again before looking down at her body, her nun attire showing a hole in it, thus revealing her belly button. Link cocked an eyebrow as her face flushed red, the blonde girl trying her best to cover her revealed skin. Hugging her knees, she finally managed to relax.

"L-Link-san…" She starts uncertainly, "What happened? I thought I was…"

"No. Now you are fine," He responded with a serious tone, "That is all that matters." A cocky smirk suddenly covered his face, "By the way, I have already seen your belly." He chuckled in amusement, "Do not get so worked up."

"Y-you did?" She stammers, averting her gaze, "S-still…"

Link tilted his head and shrugged, "In any case, how do you feel?"

"Embarrassed…" She responded honestly, while burying her face behind her knees, "Besides that, I feel okay…"

The Hylian nodded his head, pleased that it work fine, "I am glad to hear that." He stood up and surveyed the area, "I do not recognize this area, so I am going to scout ahead before teleporting us back."

And as he was about to move, her soft voice came, "Did you… save me?"

Looking over his shoulders, he stared for several seconds before facing forward once more, and finally replied, "I did not… I failed to protect you… but I brought you back."

She raised her head in surprise, "So you revived me?" Her tone reeked of disbelief, "How…?"

"I am not so sure myself, but…" He sighed, his eyes trailing to his left gloved hand. "I somehow did… and seeing you fine, that is all that matters."

He wasn't going to delve into this matter, and for her expression, she had apparently noticed.

"I… see…" She stood up, still blushing, and walked towards him, "Link-san, I don't know what happened, but… but I'm forever in your debt… Thank you." She bowed to him, before showing one of the sweetest smiles he had seen in his entire life, "Thank you for saving me."

Link fully turned to her, "I did not sav-"

She shook her head, making a humming sound, "You did, Link-san." He blinked, startled at her warm, yet firm tone, as if she was completely sure of her statement. "It doesn't matter how you did… the fact that I was on the verge of death before, and now I'm standing here with you proves it. You saved me, Link-san."

Link pursed his lips, gaze narrowed as he couldn't come to accept it. The fact that she died was because of him. His presence in this town led that monster of the Metal Constellation to kill so many people. If he hadn't she would still… be with… that fallen angel…

'The fallen angel…'

Realization hit him like a slap to his face.

"Asia, that group you were with," Her big, green eyes blinked a couple of times, "Who was their leader?"

"That's…" She started, yet her voice faded, clearly uncomfortable with the subject.

Giving some steps over the grass, Link approached her, putting a comforting hand on her shoulder, "I met a fallen angel, her name was Raynare."

"Y-you…" Blinking green orbs were slowly directed at him, "…did?" Link nodded his head in affirmative, "You did… then?"

"That fallen angel and her followers attacked the people of this town," He elaborated, leaking on his voice a bit of sharpness, if only for her to understand the gravity of her circumstances. "Are you with them?"

Silence followed until he noticed her thin figure tremble, "I… I… didn't have a place to go to…"

Link stared at her for several seconds and sighed, "I suppose we need to talk." The nun nodded her head timidly and sat over the grass. For what he could see, it still bothered her to have her belly exposed to him. Makes sense for her to be overly shy, since she's a nun.

"Will you listen to my story, Link-san?" She asked hopefully.

While Link was worried about the safety of those still wounded in that town, he recalled the group of men sent by the Orthodox Church, who were currently evacuating the town. If only they had showed up sooner, he would have stopped the fallen angel from escaping. In any case, he wasn't in a hurry anymore.

Sitting at her side with his legs crossed, he motioned his head, "Yes, Asia. I am actually a great listener," He joked, earning from her a giggle. "I am all ears… as you can see. No pun intended."

She giggled again and nodded her head, as her eyes fell on her lap. She seemed to become lost in her thoughts. Link said nothing and waited patiently for her to begin, enjoying the soft freeze of the night. There was a full moon today, which illuminated the forest, giving it a mystical, yet eerie outlook.

"My…" Her voice drew his attention back to her, the girl sporting a complicated expression, "My parents abandoned me right after I was born."

'So she did not meet her parents? Just like me… huh…'

"I see…" He whispered as tears began to well on the nun's eyes.

Asia noticed his sad expression, and wiped them off, before breathing deeply, "I was told I had been found crying in front of a church in a small European town." She rested a hand on her chest, "I grew up there."

'Which is the reason why she is a nun.' He concluded.

This was yet another trait that made this world and Hyrule alike. During his growth, Link had witnessed it himself. Many children were abandoned more often than not, or their parents had been killed by monsters, inevitably ending up in orphanages and temples until they became adults.

Most chose the path of faith, deciding to expand the teachings and history of the goddesses that created Hyrule, while others became either workers and builders. Link had met many of them working in Lon Lon Ranch, and he was glad Talon always welcomed them with open arms.

Also, with Zelda's guidance, the King opened many barracks to train orphans into soldiers at a young age. All of them grew up with the necessary accommodations for them to have a good life. However, there were still many children that eluded their sight, thus leading to a harsh life in the streets.

It was a sad truth, and a common one apparently, since he had seen the same in many cities of Valoran, and in the Queen's continent. Not to mention this world.

Asia Argento was the proof of that, it seemed.

Noticing Asia's hesitancy, Link spoke up, "If it is difficult, you do not need to tell me."

She blinked, and smiled warmly, "I really appreciate it, but this is the least I can do." She looked upward to the sky, "When I was eight, a badly wounded dog wandered near the church." Her hands intertwined as she continued, "I couldn't just watch it suffer, so I prayed as hard as I could by myself, and… a miracle occurred."

"A miracle?" Link inquired.

"Yes, a miracle, Link-san," She confirmed, meeting his gaze once more. "The dog was completely healed." Link made a thoughtful expression, focusing on her story. "Soon afterward, I was taken to a big church, where I was told to heal illnesses and wounds of Christians coming from all over the world."

'So she's a healer? This is the power that Fallen angel wanted?'

"That power…" He started, making her yelp slightly. "How does it work?"

Asia blinked, noticing the cut on his arm. Without any hesitation she leaned to him, making him blink as she extended her hands over the wound. A soft green glow began to emanate from her palms. Link observed in awe as the wound healed, the sharp pain gone with it.

The nun backed up and started to fidget at Link's focused stare, "This is the power God bestowed upon me… and I was so happy that it could help people…" Her shy smile evaporated, replaced by a sad expression. "But… one day, I found a man collapsed in the garden behind the church I lived in. I healed him without even thinking about it but…" Link leaned his head, noting the despair her whole body conveyed. "I knew this man was a devil and yet… I couldn't leave him to die. I was then branded a heretic because I had the power to even heal devils…"

'Her kindness made her do it, but those fanatics would obviously fail to understand her pure intentions. They were unfair to her…'

In the few months he had been a member of the Roman Catholic Church, Link learnt of the close-minded and extremist ideology held within the higher ranks of the church. These ideologies were used as the base of their beliefs and traditions. Link could accept it to some extent, but their fanaticism made them intolerable towards anything that couldn't be labeled as holy.

Her power to heal even devils for example: Link could guess that those priests initially thought that her power was only meant to heal creations of the Biblical God, and when it was proven otherwise, their shallow minds determined that she was a heretic, or a witch. This was certainly one of the main reasons why Link didn't trust the high ministers of the Church.

Most of them at least. There were a few exceptions of course.

'But… why does this story sounds familiar?'

"You were excommunicated…" Link concluded grimly, "I assume you did not have anywhere to go to after that." Asia nodded, looking guilty.

"Yes…" She dropped her shoulders.

It was in that moment that it hit him. Link recalled the story that Griselda Quarta mentioned during one of their meals together. Taking into consideration the details of both hers and Asia's story, it couldn't just be a coincidence.

"Were you, by any chance, referred as the Holy Maiden?" He inquired tentatively.

She blinked in surprise, "Yes, Link-san. How do you know?"

"Remember I told you I was part of the Catholic Church?" She nodded her head slowly, "The tale of the Holy Maiden is often narrated to the new members of the Church and the believers."

Her gaze dropped, she bit her lower lip, "I see…" Listening to all the hardships she had to endure, a certain inquiry came to his mind, one that he needed to ask.

"Do you still believe in God despite all that had happened to you?"

Link's question struck her like a bucket of ice water, one that she wasn't definitely prepared for seeing her reaction. He was honestly curious about her answer, given that she seemed more than just a believer.

A tiny smile invaded her face all of a sudden, much to Link's surprise, "Yes." She responded without any hesitation, "I never stopped praying to God, expressing my gratitude."

"Gratitude…?" Link raised a brow, not buying her answer. "You were abandoned by the people that served your god, and I am certain that there was not a single person in the Church willing to defend you." Link pointed out seriously. "You even ended up with a fanatical group that served a fallen angel."

"T-that may be true, b-but they were kind to me!" She argued, shaking her head as her long hair flowed but for mere seconds, "Raynare-sama said that my power would be able to help even more than when I was with the Church."

"She only desires your power," Link stated bluntly. "Nothing good will come in following her, of that I am completely certain, Asia. Her group is guilty behind the attack in Kawabe town, and who knows how many other towns or cities they attacked while you ignored it."

The blonde nun averted her gaze, "This is a trial my Lord must have given me since I'm clumsy. I… failed to see what these people were doing until Link-san came…" More tears appeared on her eyes, yet she let out a forced laugh. "I didn't pray enough… so I have to endure it."

"God did not save you from this fate, and yet you still pray to him?" Link questioned, failing to understand her blind devotion.

No one cared for her despite the fact that she was a benevolent soul. It made Link see how cruel this world could be, and it made him feel sick of it.

"I-I know that if I overcome this ordeal, God will make my dream come true!" She responded desperately, tears falling continuously across her cheeks. "T-that's what I believe…"

Link said nothing… he found himself at a loss for words.

The sobbing nun forced another laugh, "All I ever wanted was to make a lot of friends," She wiped the tears, but more continued to appear, "Then… then together we would buy flowers and books, and we would talk a lot…" She looked directly at him, making Link distressed with such a sad expression. "To have such a silly dream, you must think I'm stupid, right?"

Link dropped his shoulders, unable to give her a proper reply. She had been all alone, by herself. She had been treated harshly during her life and used as a symbol of the Church until it was decided that she was a Heretic due to her ability to even heal devils. She had been longing for her God to save her, and yet, she ended up in this terrible situation.

She died before his eyes just some moments ago, and if it wasn't for the evil piece, she would have left the world without her dream becoming true. Asia only wished for something as simple as making friends. It was by all means silly on an objective point, yet…

"Asia…" He muttered.

She deserved more than this. This woman had unexpectedly touched his heart, and he wasn't going to let this injustice continue. Not on his watch.

Maybe it was too soon to affirm that he wouldn't create any true ties with anyone in this world, but for this girl, he was willing to make an exception.

If God didn't save her, then he would.

"Asia," He called her name once more with a kind tone, making her startled, "Do you happen to know a good store where we can purchase good books?"

She seemed confused, "Eh…?"

Link smiled, and it was one that came from the bottom of his heart.

Part 12

Asia Argento.

A simple girl who was abandoned by her own parents upon birth. A girl who discovered an incredible ability at the age of 8, and despite that she healed countless of persons, she was only looked at as a being with divine power, not as a human. The people of the church had been kind to her, and she was happy that her power helped people.

However, she was lonely because of that power. She had no one to open up to, she had no friends.

That power she held, the Sacred Gear called Twilight Healing, had been both a blessing and a curse. Yet, despite all, she never lost faith in God, who granted her such power.

She hoped that her dream would come true.

And all of a sudden, she helped a devil with that same power, and her life changed forever. She was called a witch, thrown out of the Church, abandoned by all those that took care of her without a second thought.

And yet, she prayed to god.

Having nowhere to go, she roamed the streets day by day without having a clear destination, without having anyone to protect her, and yet she prayed to god.

Eventually, she sought comfort and protection within a group that followed fallen angels, and while she doubted, they extended a hand to her, promising they would protect her, promising that together, and with their powers united, they would help people. Asia was for the second time glad to finally be of use again and help anyone who needed it, however, it was not all wine and roses.

She started to lose the trust she had given them, suspecting ulterior motives, hearing strange rumors, realizing the strange behaviour of some of the fallen angel's followers. However, she had nowhere else to go, and all she could do was to remain with them.

And despite all this, she never lost faith and continued to be thankful to God.

Was she senseless?

Was she naive?

Was she stupid?

But no matter what happened, she could never bring herself to hate the God that granted her such power, such fate. Even if her dream would never come true, even if she was abandoned, she would still pray.

It was ironic that her faith in God remained intact, while her faith of having such a silly dream becoming true was almost lost.

However, one single question rocked her entire world, made by a man whom she knew nothing about, from a man who shouldn't have cared about her at all, and yet…

And yet…

"Asia, do you happen to know a good store where we can purchase good books?"

"Eh…?" She blinked, confused at the question brought by the blonde man sitting near her. "Why?"

This man called Link had saved her from death itself. Despite that they just met recently, he did, and had lent an ear to hear her story. It was strange to her to actually have someone to talk to, and he was willing to do so. She wasn't sure how to feel about it. She was nervous, yet excited, worried, yet happy.

And in all honesty, Asia was confused by these turn of events, however, one fact lingered above it all, something she knew for certain, and that was that this man was a force of good. His sincere gaze told her that much, not to mention his actions in helping the people injured by the attack of the group she followed.

It was thanks to this man that she had seen the truth, and she owned him her life.

"You really are clumsy."

She blinked, focusing once more on him. The blonde man had one of the most childish smiles she had seen in her entire life. If was as if looking at the face of a cute young boy, and at the same time, at one of an experienced adult.

"Eh?"

The man of the Church grinned, his wordless response became clear to her after some seconds.

"Y-you mean?" She began. "W-will you be my friend, Link-san?"

"I may not be the best company since flowers are not really my thing," Link chuckled, putting a hand on her head, "But I would definitely not mind reading books and discussing them with you."

She stared at him without reacting, making him cock an eyebrow, when suddenly, she started to cry and sob loudly. Link blinked in shock as Asia put her hands on her face, tears streaming through her fingers.

Asia felt overwhelmed by all the feelings she had fought to keep inside, and all she could do was to let them all out of her chest… finally.

o-0-O-0-o

The nun was crying intensely before a confused green-garbed exorcist.

The man told her he would be her friend, yet, the results weren't what he expected at all. He saw this scene developing completely different in his mind to be honest.

"I… I… may not be a good company either… since I'm very… clumsy…" She said between sobs.

"We both are not good company, which is something we already have in common," Link responded snarkily, "We can work with that."

And as before, she began to shed tears, making him scratch his cheeks.

'I can see now why Zelda said I was not good at comforting people.'

However, in the end Link understood that she may have been retaining all the pain, disappointment and helplessness she accumulated over the course of the years to a point where it was no longer containable. Asia simply had to let out all her frustrations.

Link waited silently for the nun, observing her until she finally managed to relax, thus controlling her sobs. Her eyes were red, and the sleeves of her attire were wet due to the countless tears she had wiped off with them.

However, the first thing she displayed to him was a shy smile.

Link couldn't stop himself from responding with a grin of his own.

And right then and there, both started to laugh together. There was no reason for such, but he felt like doing so, and Asia Argento apparently felt the same.

Part 13

Link had decided to rendevouz with the apparent members of the Russian Orthodox Church after explaining to the nun their current circumstances. Of course, Paladin Vladislav and his men displayed shock and disbelief upon see the nun's unlikely recovery. They even seemed to be ready to voice the inquiries that came with this implication.

The hylian, however, simply stated that he somehow managed to remove the curse himself, saving her life. The russian men had to abstain from questioning her once Link claimed that Asia Argento was now under his protection.

The duo was then lead to the provisional base of the Orthodox Church located in Shirakawa, another town inside the Kamo District, located north-east to Kawabe. There, Link had asked the nun if she could identify his target, Freed Sellzen, among those captured.

"None of them are that man," Asia Argento finally said after having checked every captured fanatic. "He must have escaped with the rest of Raynare-sama's followers."

'Or he could have been killed by that monster… there is no way to know as some of their casualties were not recognizable.'

Link folded his arms, sighing in resignation. It was unclear where this group were now headed to. At the very least, their numbers had been decreased. For what was revealed by the fallen angel herself, she was now aiming to find a Sacred Gear user, who ever that was.

Worth noting was the fact that the one called Raynare was but one of a whole group of Fallen according to what Asia had informed, which should be investigated further, he concluded. There's most likely a shady reason for that fallen angel to have been ordered to find the sacred gear user, and Link felt he shouldn't ignore it.

Not to mention the nun's confirmation of Freed Sellzen within the followers of the Fallen.

"Jade Knight?" Paladin Vladislav Petrov raised an eyebrow, addressing the man that seemed lost in thought. "Sir?"

Link blinked, regaining focus, "Yes?"

"These were all the living men we managed to capture. Your target has eluded us, I'm afraid," The Russian paladin said grimly before his sharp gaze trailed towards the nun, who yelped slightly, "Of course, if we're to believe this woman."

The Hylian folded his arms, honestly irked by that last comment, "I beg your pardon, but should you be the one to talk? I have yet to see proof of your affiliation to the Russian Orthodox Church besides that document, which could be a fake." Link narrowed his gaze in suspicion, "Who is your superior?"

The armored man took a step back in that moment as some steps echoed, a beautiful woman dressed in a black nun attire approaching, her prominent chest catching the attention of every man within the room, with some few exceptions. Her gray eyes with a tint of blue were directed at Link as he focused on the new presence, instantly recognizing her.

The presence of the woman confirmed the claims of Paladin Vladislav, as she had once served under the Roman Orthodox Church.

Although he knew well that was a thing of the past, after all, Mirana Shatarova had been reincarnated as an angel, by none other than Archangel Gabriel herself. There was no need to mention that these turn of events didn't amuse him.

The first thing Mirana did upon standing before him was to nod at him in acknowledgment, with a bit of shyness, a usual trait Link could remember about the russian nun from the last time they met. Although, thinking about it, it could also be the fact that Archangel Gabriel had pushed her limits by trying to make Mirana persuade him in order for Link to be reincarnated as an angel.

However, Link's resolution about the matter had remained the same. He didn't become a devil when Rias had tried to make him one during his time with the Gremory family, when he was under the cover of a dark god, and he wasn't about to renounce his humanhood now.

Mirana had tried to convince him to become part of Gabriel's peerage, even in ways he hadn't expected despite her shy nature, even disregarding her own morality, much to his shock. However, it had all been futile as Link continued to reject her proposal.

"My lord Link, long time no see…" Said the woman softly, earning from the blonde a nod of his head, "I-I heard you were dispatched to capture stray exorcists, correct?" She clapped her hands together, "I'll be happy to p-provide some assistance should you need it."

Link nodded his head in appreciation, "By all means I am grateful, Lady Mirana." He exchanged a glance with the nun, before assuming a stoic demeanor, "Before anything else, and if you would give me the opportunity, I want to elaborate about the situation regarding Asia Argento."

"Oh?" Mirana blinked, her gaze falling on the blonde nun, who pressed her lips in anticipation, "Paladin Vladislav told me you were mortally injured," She smiled kindly, leaning to her, "I'm glad to see you healthy."

"Y-yes… Link-san saved me," Responded the nun, mustering all her courage to not get intimidated by the sudden attention. "I owe him my life, so I'm pledged to help his cause in any way I can."

The Russian Paladin cleared his throat as to shift the attention to him, "I understand Sir Link's kind nature, but we cannot disregard the fact that the nun was part of a stray group of exorcists, not to mention that these were lead by the Fallen."

Link folded his arms, observing the man closely, "I understand the distrust, but her circumstances are…" He stopped momentarily, his mind searching for the most appropriate word. "…unique."

The armored Paladin stared at her inquisitively, Asia tensing in anticipation. However, the shy reincarnated angel stepped between the nun and the man, breaking his line of sight. Link observed neutrally the scene, innerly appreciating Mirana's thoughtful action. If there was something he had noticed about Asia was her poor ability at handling pressure, even by sight alone.

"W-we'd certainly appreciate hearing about it, Sir Link," She smiled nervously, her eyes failing to meet Link's deep gaze. She started fidgeting, silence coming, "I-if you will?"

Some seconds elapsed before his response was made, "…Certainly."

"L-Link-san?" A fragile voice called his name. Turning slightly his head, the green-clad man turned to the blonde nun, red painting her cheeks. He waited for her to continue, "I… I think it's better if I explain it myself…"

"Are you certain?" He asked in concern.

She bit her lip, eyes shaking, but for a moment, when she finally returned the gaze, determined.

"Yes!"

Link found himself honestly startled, not expecting Asia to have built up so much courage in the span of a few minutes. She was a trembling mess before, yet now, her display of determination had not only come as a surprise, but he actually felt proud of her.

"Hmm," He motioned his head for her to do so.

Asia turned to Mirana and company, and breathed deeply.

o-0-O-0-o

There was silence… not in its entirety but there was for the most part.

After Asia had finished telling her story, none of the listeners had spoken. Glances were exchanged, looks of pity, sadness and disbelief painted the faces of the men congregated around the blond nun. Paladin Vladislav himself sported a frown, his eyes lost and weary. Mirana was kneeling before Asia, tears continuously falling across her now red cheeks.

Link found the scene kind of weird, and sort of uncomfortable to witness. No one knew what to say. Asia herself was perpexled by their reaction, constantly looking at the blonde Hylian in uncertainty, and all he could give her was a reassuring nod.

Paladin Vladislav finally broke the awkward silence, coughing into his fist to call their attention, "I believe this settles the matter regarding Asia Argento," The man regarded the nun, his eyes emanating kindness and admiration, "I would have taken this as a lie if not for the fact that I heard myself of the exiled Holy Maiden. To think that was you…" He closed his eyes, "For someone so young and faithful to have been cast away for showing mercy… it shames me to think that I ever doubted you."

"Eh?"

Asia blinked in surprise as the Russian man rested one knee on the ground, bowing his head to her, "Forgive me for my insolence, my lady."

Mirana grabbed Asia hands, and Link could tell the blonde girl did her best to keep herself from yelping, "The Orthodox Church never agreed with the punishment they gave to the Holy Maiden for saving a devil's life," She wiped her teary eyes, pursing her lips, "God is merciful, even to devils and the fallen. It's only natural that a power granted by God would allow you to cure any being, whether it's human, angel or devil."

The Paladin nodded his head in agreement, "Sadly, there are many extremists archbishops inside the Catholic Church, and most of them hold a high position within the Vatican's hierarchy." The man sighed, many comments erupting among the members of his battalion. "Once we heard the news, the Patriarch sent many of us to find you, Asia Argento, yet we failed… until now that is."

"Y-you mean…"Asia was shocked, her widened eyes showed that much.

Paladin Vladislav exchanged a smile with Mirana before speaking, "The Orthodox Church welcomes you, Asia Argento. I believe it's God's will that led Sir Link to find you, so he could bring you to us."

Mirana hugged the unsuspecting nun, "Yes! Mistress Gabriel would love to meet you, too Asia! With us, you'll be able to help people once more!"

Cheers exploded among the men, laughter and shouts following, which meant that Asia had finally found a place to belong to once more. Link grinned, genuinely happy by these unexpected turn of events, which were welcomed. Finally will Asia be able to make the friends she had desired, to live in the way she had chosen and how it was meant to be.

Link observed Asia closely, noting the relief and happiness reflected on her face and body language.

'This is… what she wanted… huh? To be accepted… To have people that would truly care for her despite the past. With Archangel Gabriel now watching over her, she will be fine.'

There was nothing more for Link to do in that regard it seemed. She won't depend on him, and she'll have many allies watching her back, which was all Link cared about.

In the end his company wasn't needed.

The young Hylian quietly stepped back, and spared them one last glance before leaving the room in silence.

Part 14

"That would be all. The Orthodox Church truly appreciates your cooperation regarding the unknown attacker. We shall hunt down this creature and bring him to justice."

Link nodded, "I do hope the Patriarch recovers."

Paladin Vladislav smirked, showing utter confidence, "He's a strong man. He'll live." He made a cross sign before extending a hand to him, "Goodspeed, Sir Link."

He received the posture, "Same to you. And let me apologize for the distrust I showed back then," The blonde hylian gazed at him seriously, "Considering the latest events, I was-"

The Russian man raised a hand, successfully interrupting him, "No need, my good lad. I understand that you were just seeking confirmation. Shouldn't your exploits and fame have been so great, I probably would have done the same."

"Thank you. Please take care of Asia," His gaze fell on his hand, "She is a gentle soul."

"Rest assured we will, Sir Link…" The man seemed to have something else to say, "Won't you… give your farewell to her?"

Link felt silent.

He couldn't bring himself to do so, he indeed was bad at saying goodbye. Link told her he would be her friend, but he was no longer necessary as Asia would now be able to accomplish her dreams within the ranks of the Russian Orthodox Church.

Link knew he was being a hypocrite, but her staying with them was for the best. After all, his life was surrounded by danger, and anyone close to him would suffer for it. Asia had suffered long enough already… she deserved to live peacefully.

Besides, whatever that was the 'Metal Constellation' had him as their target… she had already died by their hand so the farthest Asia was from them, the better.

Without any doubt, this was the right call.

The blonde swordsman sighed, and turned around, looking at the man over his shoulder, "Farewell."

Paladin Vladislav bowed to him, "…Farewell, Jade Knight."

And with that, Link walked away.

o-0-O-0-o

"So, where to now?"

Link scratched his cheek as he contemplated his next course of action. With Freed gone, all he could think of was to regroup with Kagura and Xenovia, and inform them of his findings, with the obvious exception of any information related to him directly.

"Mister Toshiro," He turned to the elderly man, "Let us return to Nagoya."

His driver smirked, "Right on it, lad."

The man started the car, and just about when he was about to press the pedal, someone stood before the black vehicle, preventing him from moving forward. Link couldn't believe what his sight was seeing as the person before them was none other than…

Asia Argento.

Link immediately left the vehicle, and approached her with hasty steps, "Asia? What are you…?"

"Link-san…" She said before falling to her knees.

The Hylian became alarmed for a moment before realizing she was trying to catch her breath. The girl had probably been running in order to find him. Link gave her a moment until she finally gained her breath.

Now, an inquiry came to him, which was… how did she locate him?

"Link-san… Why did you leave me…?" She asked slowly, still panting, a hand rested on her agitated chest.

'So it was that? She came for me?'

The blonde man released a sigh, "I know what I said before, but now… I am just looking in your best interests, Asia. You know that I am from another world, and I will eventually leave. The Russian Church is offering you the chance to make your dreams come true, which is why I decided to leave you with them."

It wasn't planned, but he was glad he found people that would be able to take care of her this fast.

Her gaze dropped, "…you lied to me? You won't be my friend?"

"I am your friend, and will always be, but…" He put a hand over her head, "…Mirana and the others are there, Asia. I am sure you will make many friends alongside them."

Despite his words of encouragement, she looked about to cry.

"I want to stay with Link-san…"

Link averted his gaze, failing to see her attachment upon just meeting some hours ago, "I am afraid that is no-"

He was cut short when she spoke again, her face raised and teary eyes directed at his own, "I want to stay with Link-san."

"Asia, I just want to-"

"…I want to say by Link-san's side… forever…" She stated firmly. Her cheeks were red, with tears streaming down across them. Both her statement and her behaviour came as a shock to the Hylian. For her to stand her ground like this, her drive must be powerful, he realized.

Link frowned, "Asia, we just met. Why would you-"

The blonde nun put a hand on his chest, forcing herself to smile, "Because I can sense it. Your heart, Link-san… It's so kind… so gentle… so warm… I can sense it since you saved me…" She wiped her tears, "Link-san… I realized something when they told me that you left…"

Link was at a loss for words. This development was unexpected.

And his silence prompted her to continue.

"When everyone started cheering for me to join them and didn't see you there, I… felt empty…" She grabbed his left gloved hand with both her own, "I-I know Mirana-san and the others truly meant to help me… but just thinking about not seeing Link-san again made my heart hurt… I couldn't take it…"

Link stared at her in silence, noting that the nun was gripping his hand strongly in a sign that implied that she didn't want to let go.

'Just… what the hell had happened!? This does not make any sense…'

Could this be an effect of the Evil Piece he used to bring her back? Since the evil pieces were imbued with his power, could it be that they created some sort of connection? Some sort of emotional attachment towards the owner of the evil pieces?

Link just couldn't believe the nun would develop feelings for him that fast.

He couldn't tell if they were romantic yet, but the particular way she phrased her words…

'What have I done?'

Link pursed his lips, trying to recall his knowledge on the evil piece system, yet the two big green orbs continuously staring at him made the task almost impossible. He couldn't remember the last time he found himself this intimidated by a woman…

Although upon further musing, it happened twice with both Zelda and Malon before departing to the Lost Woods. But the fact that this shy girl would…

"How did you find me?" He inquired tensely.

Asia started fidgeting at that, "I… don't know… hehe… I just felt I could find you here…"

'So she indeed sensed me and track me here?'

This matter had become far more troublesome than he had anticipated. This meant the nun was in fact connected to him via the magic of the evil piece he used to bring her back to life.

"And you came all the way here by yourself?"

"Actually…" She fixed a lock of hair behind her ear, "I asked Vladislav-san to bring me here. I told him I could sense you in this direction…"

'That man…'

"Oi, Knight-san?" Toshiro suddenly shouted from the driver's window, "Everything fine there?"

The Hylian waved a hand at him, "Give me a moment."

"Fair enough!"

Then, Link focused on the nun again, who kept staring at his face. This made him slightly uncomfortable. He could tell there was admiration in her eyes, which made sense since he saved her life… but there was that other thing in them. It… was somewhat intimidating.

"Link-san…" She began before he could, "I know I'm very weak, but… with Twilight Healing, I think I'll be able to be useful to you."

He shook his head, deadpanning, "Asia, you do realize what you are saying? You make it sound like you shall be an object to me."

"I wouldn't mind that… as long as you let me come with you, Link-san…" She replied, both her hands pressed against her chest. Her hopeful eyes stared into his as she waited for a reply.

One reply he didn't want to respond.

Link still felt inclined to reject her request, all things considered. But the fact that her behaviour could possibly be attributed to him using an evil piece was in the end, his own doing. Whether he liked it or not, he would have to take responsibility.

Maybe that damn dragon knew of this after effect all along and still encouraged him to use it.

But in all honesty, Link would have done it again since it was the only mean at his disposal to revive her. Such was the life of a hero.

He released a sigh before nodding slowly, and wearily, "Very well then, you can come with me."

"R-really!?" Asia smiled brightly, tears threatening to stream down her cheeks again, "Link-san… I'm… I'm…" She dropped her head, hands covering her own face, "I… I can't…"

He raised an eyebrow as the nun began to cry, yet this time around, it was of happiness… so to speak. It was weird for Link to have made such an impact on her life, but he apparently did. He massaged his neck, wondering if there was a way to undo this 'enchantment'.

"Oooiiii, knight-san!" The old man spoke again from the driver's window, "I have some toilet paper here for the ojou-san! Do you want it?"

Link stared blankly at the man.

"…Yes…"

Part 15

"I-I hope we get along, Xenovia-san… Kagura-sama."

Xenovia smirked, "Same."

A certain redhead glared at Link, "Another girl? Do you realize what you're doing, playboy?"

Link shrugged his shoulders, not particularly interested in what Kagura had to say. They were currently back in Nagoya, in a house located near the Roman Catholic Diocese, more exactly, inside a small living room, where Link finally explained the events that transcurred during his scouting, also mentioning that Asia would now be under his care.

As the Hyrule-born foresaw, he got mixed reactions from the two, but once Mirana came into the picture during his explanation, they sort of overlooked the fact that he brought a girl along with him. Thankfully, none of the two gave so much thought to Asia's backstory since Kagura didn't really care, and Xenovia… well, her beliefs were kind of flexible, even as an exorcist.

Honestly, seeing Xenovia accepting her this fast came as a surprise.

Link could still remember how cold and focused Xenovia was before, barely talking and only caring to complete her missions. Hell, if she was the same, she probably wouldn't have accepted him protecting someone that had been excommunicated, much less someone that had healed a devil at some point.

It was probably Miakis and Kagura's influence on her that made Xenovia more relaxed and able to see beyond mere covers. This influence also allowed her to enjoy life despite her past. Interestingly enough, he discovered that the bluehead was a sucker for tasting varied types of food, and also was a bit of a freeloader.

Putting those thoughts aside, Link folded his arms, "In any case, I believe you should return to the Vatican and report your findings. It is imperative that they know that a group of Fallen are operating here in Japan."

Kagura crossed her legs, disapproval evident on her features, "Really? We can just send the report without having to get our asses there, Link-chan."

Xenovia nodded her head in agreement, "That's true. Or are you planning to search for that group of fallen angels by yourself?"

Link glanced at her before his eyes fell on the nun, "You see, Asia will not be allowed into the Vatican for obvious reasons, and I cannot leave her to her own devices for the time being. Her sacred gear is rare, and those Fallens desire it."

"But why didn't she remained with the Orthodox Church?" Questioned Kagura, looking at her suspiciously. "It's not like I care, but since they're so accepting about her, that'd have been the best place for her, right?"

The nun lowered her head, cheeks gaining color as Link found himself slightly annoyed. He just couldn't tell them that Asia came along because she simply wanted to stay close to him, surely a response that would make Kagura especially very whiny.

His tranquility demanded that he provide an effective response to avert their attention from it.

Link didn't take long crafting one though, "You both know that Mirana was reincarnated as an angel by Archangel Gabriel, yes? And that she wants me to be reborn as one as well?"

"Yeah..." Both affirmed.

Link closed his eyes, suppressing a sigh, "I'm completely sure the archangel will try to drag Asia and make her one of her cards."

Xenovia put a thoughtful hand under her chin, "Wouldn't that be good?"

"Yeah… she's clearly a faithful follower of God," The redhead added. "Her being reincarnated as an angel would make sense, no?"

"She can't be reincarnated," Link stated bluntly.

Xenobia blinked, and Kagura's eyes narrowed.

"Why not?"

Link didn't respond, his mind's gears working to get a good follow-up to his previous statement. However, he failed to craft a believable reason for Asia to no longer be able to reincarnate. No matter how much he thought, nothing good would come.

It seemed that his tranquility was about to be compromised.

'Well… Screw this…'

Thinking about it, he wasn't actually obligated to respond.

"I shall not say," He stated immediately.

"Huh?"

"What?"

They blinked several times, jaws dropping in disbelief. It didn't take long for Kagura to snap from her minor shock and stand, irritated as he had expected, "You won't say?" Link nodded easily, "Care to say why, or you won't either?"

Link stood on his feet as well, "I will not either. All you need to know is that she cannot be reborn."

Kagura grabbed his shirt by the neck and pulled him, their faces close to one another. Her gaze was fearsome, and so was his, "Is that so, Link-chan?" He said nothing, remaining calm, "The Catholics still consider her a witch for all I know. Maybe I should just report who you found, and now protect. What do you think?"

Link continued to regard her stoically, "Is that a threat, Lady Kagura?"

"What if it is?" She smirked in challenging manner, "Would you try to stop me, Link-chan?"

"I would stop you."

There was no hesitance in his voice, as if his statement was definitive, and for the way Kagura grit her teeth. She didn't like it one bit.

"D-don't fight guys," Xenovia said weakly, intimidated by their non-friendly demeanor.

"Please… stop… to think that I'd be the cause of Link-san and Kagura-sama fighting…" Both turned to her, Link seeing the guilt in her eyes. "Kagura-sama. I can't be reincarnated because I was killed, and Link-san brought me back to life."

The grip on his shirt loosened completely, Kagura's eyes widening in shock. Link stared at the nun in disapproval, who averted her gaze.

'So much for hiding that from them.'

Link suppressed a sigh, realizing then that he would need to work with that. Thankfully, Asia wasn't aware of how he managed to revive her, so he still had some control over the situation. As he had revealed to the nun, the Hylian used a certain spell to bring her back to life, one that would not allow her to be reborn again.

Technically speaking, it wasn't a lie, and he didn't specify what kind of spell it was.

"How did you revive her? You never mentioned…" Kagura started, yet realization hit her, "Wait… killed? Was it that thing? What the Russians were following?"

"Yes… Asia was attacked by it, and I used magic to bring her back to life."

"You can do that!?" Xenovia gasped in surprise.

Link turned to the nun, "The amount of times I can use this spell are limited… and it no longer allows that person to be revived again."

And he was still saying the truth. Since Asia was reborn by the evil piece, she no longer was fit to be reincarnated… and now that the subject came to his mind, Link realized he's been ignoring one important fact about this matter all along, which was…

'What is Asia now? Was she just revived, or was she reincarnated as something else? Did she become a devil because I used an evil piece?'

Many doubts began to crawl into his mind, but he regained focus, not letting that uncertainty show on his face. Link would need to investigate this further later on.

"Was kind of magic was it then?" Asked Xenovia with genuine curiosity.

"Call it magic from my world if you will," Link responded, not proud of the lie, but now that it came down to it, such was necessary.

Hell, he had been hiding and lying about his origins since his arrival to this dimension, not to mention the fact that rumors of a Dark God coming to the world of humans had spread. He had to wonder if the Gremory family was the cause of them, or maybe the white witch herself.

Making such a conclusion however would probably be careless since there were many unknown variables yet to be discovered.

Kagura didn't seem completely convinced, but she relented, "Alright. Let's assume that's true. The nun can't stay close to the Orthodox Church or they could discover she was revived by you, right?"

"More exactly, Archangel Gabriel would," Link confirmed.

"Would there be a problem if she discovered that?"

"There is no way to tell, but I will not risk her safety," He declared firmly. "I cannot return until Asia is safe," Arms folded, his blue orbs shone with utmost resolution, "The Fallen will look for her again once they realize she is alive."

"A healing power is that valuable?" Kagura cocked an eyebrow, "I think it's overrated."

The nun frowned, Xenovia rolling her eyes. Never watching her tongue was definitely one of Kagura's main traits in Link opinion.

"That is of no importance," Eyes shut, he spoke before opening them, a mighty expression invading his face, "I will not allow them to lay a finger on her. I will hunt down those fallen and their followers."

"I'm very sorry Link-san… for all the trouble I'm causing you…" The nun lowered her head, as if ashamed of herself.

"Do not apologize to me, little one," He rested a comforting hand on her shoulder, "We shall see this through. Those Fallen have created too much misery and destruction, they need to be stopped."

"Then why the hell do you want us away?" Kagura questioned, glaring at him, "With us around, we'd find them faster!"

Link sat back, assuming a more relaxed posture, "We have attracted too much attention in a country where many devils and local deities reside in. Should they discover three exorcists together, it could cause a conflict between both sides, since our presence could be seen as Catholics infiltrating into their territory."

Kagura snorted, "You mean you attracted too much attention." Despite the fact that that statement was based on her own perspective, he had to admit she was correct.

"Well, I get it," Xenovia shrugged her shoulders, "I… trust Link." Kagura rolled her eyes, disbelief clear on her face, "I'm sure he thought this through. The less people from the church to be sighted, the better, right?"

Link smiled in appreciation, "Thank you for understanding, Xenovia." She sent him a thumbs up, before he turned to the Church's White Fang. "Lady Kagura, what will be your standing?"

Hands on her hips, Kagura bit her lip, eyes narrowed as she made the respective inner deliberations. Asia visibly tensed as silence set within the room, two pairs of blue orbs crashing fiercely.

Kagura pursed her lips, a glare forming to intimidate him. Link, however, wasn't about to take a step back on the matter as his gaze took on an unswervingly sharpness.

The tension building up was almost palpable.

But Kagura finally relented, her confrontational stance gone in an instant as she let out a sigh of resignation, "It's your call then, Link-chan. Let's just hope you don't screw things up."

"I shall take responsibility should that come to occur," Putting an arm across his chest, Link bowed slightly. "You have my word, Lady Kagura."

"Tch…" She averted her gaze, cheeks gaining color, a scowl emerging, "Do whatever you want. I already got all the sukonbu I wanted anyway."

With that said, the redhead turned around and walked away. Link could tell she was heading towards the arc's location.

"I should be going, too," Xenovia commented, as she picked up her large sword covered with straps, "Be careful, you two. I'll pray to god things go well for you."

"Thank you, Xenovia-san," The nun smiled in appreciation. "I'll pray for your well-being as well."

Link rested a hand on the bluehead's shoulder, "Godspeed."

"Same."

Xenovia nodded her head, staring at him for a few seconds. Link raised an eyebrow at that, "Is there something amiss?"

She bit her lower lip, "No. Just… be careful, okay?" And with that, she finally left the room.

A couple of minutes passed as the two remained seated in silence, with Link deliberating his next course of action. It was difficult to think of where to start his search for Raynare's group, as the only clue he had was that she was after a sacred gear user.

'If only…'

"Hmm… Link-san?" He directed his gaze at the nun, who for some reason was pointing a finger at him, "Y-Your head is glowing… I-I mean, your cap!"

Link blinked, and removed his favorite green cap from his head, to see that something shone intensely inside. It was a light he hadn't seen since he had first arrived to China one year ago give or take.

'Could it be that…?'

Asia watched curiously as he searched inside the cap, pulling out a purple gem. He stared at it, slightly surprised to see the Gem of Hope shining once more. He had believed it had lost its power. Eventually though, it stopped.

It's as if it was recharged, but he couldn't tell how as he had tried before…

'Hold on a minute… this was formerly the Lust Gem granted to me by the Swamp Witch… so maybe, the power it needed to work had to be of an obscure nature…'

Since it had been a long time since he used the Fierce Deity Mask, the Lust Gem probably lost its power. However, now that he had worn it for a moment, the gem most likely absorbed some of the dark power of the Fierce God…

It actually made sense as it was the creation of a powerful dark witch.

"Link-san?" Asia leaned towards the shining gem in curiosity, "What's that?"

Instead of responding, he quickly stood on his feet and approached a bookshelf, his blue eyes darting from one side to the other as he searched for a certain item. His finger finally tapped the spine of a large dark blue book, and retrieved it.

The nun observed him closely, Link sitting back over the couch, "Link-san?"

The Hylian narrowed his gaze in focus as he skimmed through countless pages before coming to a stop. She blinked as he put the book over the short table before them. Opening it to reveal a detailed map of the country of Japan.

"A map?" She asked.

He glanced at her, "Indeed…"

Link grabbed the gem and began to move it across the two pages. To his shock, it began to shine intensely once it was placed over a certain part of the map. Since his current goal was to locate Raynare's group, this meant that this location was the place where Link would be able to find them.

To his dismay, the location's name brought a frown upon his face. The nun noticing his troubled expression, leant closer and read the name out loud.

"K-Kouh Town…" She said slowly, "Did that gem signal their location?"

There was no response from Link, as he was lost within his current train of thought. The fact that the Fallen were close to Rias Gremory's territory could only mean that great problems were about to arise.

Link stared at the map for several seconds, and finally sighed.

Alright, we finally arrived to canon. Damn be sure to look forward to that as it will be hella different, and with Link involved, epic as well.

As always, any thought, inquiry or advice is welcomed.
