Notes: The premise for my fic: What if Lisa had just come to her senses and asked out another guy?
The time: Right after the escape from Breetai's ship
Now don't flame me, I love R&L, but sometimes, Rick's stupidity angers me. As usual, read and review, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!! (you'll prolly see some shades of McKinney and DYRL in my fic. For anyone who finds them, a free cookie!)
Lisa sat in a coffee shop, cooling a large mug of coffee with her breath. Ever since escaping from the Zentraedi ship and interrogation, her recurring nightmares about the ordeal have kept her from a goodnight's sleep. She swallowed the still burning coffee quickly in the hopes that the caffeine would keep her alert enough for her shift on the bridge at 1700 hours. Though she hated to admit it, what really bothered her more than any Zentraedi interrogation were Rick's comments after they had fallen into the Zentraedi cooling system. "You're a beautiful woman.you'll find someone." She sighed. Was he telling the truth? She contemplated her reflection in her mug. "Am I beautiful?" she thought. Lisa laughed to herself, then repeated softly what she said to Rick: "I'll never meet anyone sitting around here." She pushed aside the empty mug, tossed a few bills on the table, and made her way to the bridge.
**************** Jimmy Smith picked up his order from the to-go counter at the coffee shop. He'd just gotten off duty, and the warm, steaming cup of black coffee had been calling his name ever since he got out of the cockpit. He was just about to leave, when he bumped into another customer, sending his beloved coffee to an early death all over his uniform. "I'm so sorry!" the woman exclaimed. She produced a handkerchief from her pocket and was busily dabbing at his chest- the site of disaster. "I'll pay for your drink. I'm really very sorry for any inconvenience I've caused." Jimmy was too startled by everything to process what just happened. First, he lost his coffee, then, this beautiful woman was offering to pay for another one. Finally, he regained his composure enough to talk. "No, that won't be necessary, but thank you. I assure you, it was all my fault for not watching where I was going." He touched the woman's hand lightly to make her stop dabbing. She looked up. Her piercing blue eyes bore right through him. They were intense, and somehow familiar. "Commander Hayes?" Lisa furrowed her brow. "Do I know you?" "Probably not." He snapped her a crisp salute. "Ensign Jimmy Smith of the newly formed Hawk Squadron, ma'am." Lisa nodded her understanding. The Hawk Squadron was pieced together from two other newly-formed squadrons that met their dooms in the last few battles. "I apologize for not knowing you. There are so many soldiers sometimes, and with people coming and going." Her voice trailed off. "No apologies necessary Commander. I'm just glad you survived the situation on the Zentraedi ship. All the pilots were worried Sammy would be taking your job permanently." Lisa laughed despite his poor attempt at humor. She was surprised how free she felt with this random Ensign. Perhaps because this stranger was knew nothing of her "Supergirl" reputation, or if he did, he didn't care. He talked to her respectfully, yet he treated her like an ordinary woman.. He made bad jokes. She laughed. They were two ordinary human beings in a coffee shop. Lisa suddenly became aware of the time. "If I don't leave now, I'll be late for my shift. See you around, Ensign." He saluted lightly in response. "Count on it." She turned to leave, but was stopped by the sound of Jimmy's voice. "Commander?" "Yes?" "Next time, let's have that coffee together."
