A/N: Okay, so I was pretty sad when I read about Newt's death, so of course I had to write about it.

The first time he fell in love with Newt was when he saw him covered in mud and dirt, sweaty and red-faced from the work he had been doing. Newt smiled at him with that bright smile of his and called him Tommy.

The second time he fell in love with him was when they were wandering in the woods, just the two of them. Thomas told him about his worries, afraid of him judging or laughing at him, but Newt just listened and nodded, brushing his hand slightly against Thomas' to comfort him and tell him it was okay.

The third time he fell in love with him was when he was too sick to eat anything for the whole day, and Newt skipped dinner to give him company and tell him jokes about the other boys in the Glade. Thomas grinned a little, almost giving away the swirling emotions inside him.

The first time he fell out of love with him was when he noticed Newt and Alby sitting close together shoulders pressed against each other, whispering about something in deep discussion. Newt didn't even spare him a glance when he walked right past him. Thomas didn't talk to him for two days after that.

The fourth time he fell in love with him was when he walked out of the Maze, still in one piece after running off to save Minho and Alby. Newt had worry and exhaustion written all over his face and he looked like he wanted to punch him, so Thomas was surprised to feel strong arms embrace him instead. Newt didn't say anything, but Thomas knew.

The last time he fell in love with him was when Newt looked at him with sad, tired eyes, calling him Tommy and asking him to kill him.

Thomas killed him.

He was still in love with him.
