I nice short fluff chapter to conclude this... thing.
Guys I don't know what to do with my life now lol help
"Gate A39 is now boarding. Passengers for flight to San Diego, please report to Gate A39."
"Gumi, I swear to God, if we miss our flight because of you-" Miku muttered as the eight of us sprinted through the terminal.
"I couldn't find my hairbrush! I'm sorry," she groaned, trying to keep up on her short legs.
"This… this is… why… we drive," Len panted next to me.
"I want to be there now," Luka spoke up. "Driving is no use. You'll be fine, Len."
"Ugh," he sighed.
We ran around other people awaiting their flights, earning our fair share of glances, and apologizing profusely to any fans who came near us. There was no time for pictures at the moment. My arms were aching from the weight of my bag, but I couldn't complain next to Len, who had, as always, insisted on carrying my second duffle. And now we were sprinting.
"There it is!" I called out, pointing towards a line of people in front of Gate A39. "We're fine! We made it."
Everyone slowed to a walk as the gate came into view.
"Dude," Len said. "I'm really not looking forward to this."
"Just don't puke on your girlfriend," Gumi laughed. "You'll make the whole cabin smell."
I leaned over to him. "You can puke me on me if you need to," I joked.
"Please, never say that sentence again."
The flight attendant's eyes perked up when she saw us. "First class?" She said.
Miku nodded, offering up her boarding pass and entering first.
"Just in time," the attendant smiled. "Enjoy the flight!" She chirped after each one of us. We all responded in a similar tone, except for Len, who merely grumbled his thanks.
"Be nice," I said, jabbing him in the ribs as we walked through the tight hallway. All joking aside, he was not happy to be here.
First class was more of a room than a row of seats. It was at the top of the plane, with a thin leather couch stretching against the walls, the windows all open around it, and a TV in the center. It was carpeted with a lavish, red floor. Buttons littered the ceiling.
"Just place your bags under the seats," another flight attendant explained politely. "And, if you need anything, just press this button."
"This is sick," Luka pointed out, flopping onto the couch. "We should fly more often."
"No, we shouldn't," Len disagreed.
"If it makes you feel better, we can close the windows," Miku offered.
Gumi pouted. "But I like looking outside!"
The others laughed, turning on the TV. Len and I sat with our backs to the opened windows.
I offered my hand to him. "You can hold my hand if you want." I grinned.
Instead, he hooked his arm in mine, and leaned his head only my shoulder, closing his eyes. "I think I'm just gonna take a nap."
I nuzzled my ear into his hair. "That works, too."
Thank God I had convinced my parents to move into a bigger house. Having six people working in the kitchen at Grandma's old house would have been a nightmare.
"Could someone carry this to the table?" My mom called from next to me. Had I not been chopping carrots, I would have offered right away.
"Sure thing!" Luka appeared out of nowhere, gently taking the steaming bowl of mashed potatoes from her hands. Cloths separated the dish from her skin.
"Careful," Mom warmed. "It's really hot."
"No worries! I've got it."
Mom gave her a warm smile. "Thank you, dear."
It was exchanges like this that made me grin wildly. Having both families under the same roof was something I could easily get used to.
The kitchen was filled with life. Mom opened the oven to check the ham while Dad stirred the gravy on the stovetop above her. Miku was slicing up the fruit for the fruit salad next to me, and Grandma was carefully laying sliced apples into the pie crust. It was next in line for cooking, once the ham was done in the oven. The room was filled with the sweet scent of the cooking meat, the sound of happy voices, and the warm, familiar air of Christmas.
"Rin, I'm worried," Miku whispered next to me.
"Why?" I chopped the carrots swiftly and carefully.
She looked over her shoulder. My mother closed the oven, and crossed the kitchen to assist somewhere else. "So," Miku continued. "I got your Mom this giant candle set."
I grinned. "She'll love it."
"Do you think so? I really hope so. I mean, I figured everyone loves candles."
"What kind?"
"A bunch of vanilla ones. Like vanilla cupcake, frosting, just plain old vanilla."
I shook my head. "She's more of a peppermint kinda girl."
Her eyes flashed. "Really? Shit."
"Miku. I'm kidding. She'll love it."
"Need any help?" Len suddenly appeared between us with a grin plastered on his face.
"Nope!" Mom answered cheerfully for me from across the kitchen. She turned to face us. "Why don't you three go sit down? I'll put the veggies with the ham, and bring it out in a few minutes."
I set my knife down gently on the counter and removed my apron. "Okay," I responded as Miku did the same.
"I can help you bring everything out," Len offered.
Seeing him interact with my parents was priceless. He was the epitome of a nervous teenage boy, especially around Dad.
Mom considered this, and then smiled warmly. "Sure, Len. That'd be wonderful."
I shot Miku a smirk. She noticed as well.
Everyone who wasn't preparing food in the kitchen was sitting and chatting in the dining room. Miku and I joined the crowd.
"Oh, Jesus, is it ready?" Kaito asked, sitting up in his seat. "I'm starving."
"Almost," Miku told him, taking a seat. I pulled out the chair next to her. "Rin's Mom is bringing everything out, soon."
"Hon, you can just call me Mom!" She appeared in the doorway, leaning next to Miku as she set down another dish on the table. She let out a laugh.
My parents sat at one end, I sat at the other. Miku was to my right, and an empty seat for Len was to my left. My back was to the wall. Past the other end, our Christmas tree stood adorned with lights and ornaments on every branch. The amount of presents underneath it baffled me. If I stacked them all on top of each other, the mountain would be bigger than the tree itself. Not only had my parents insisted on getting gifts for the Vocals, but all the Vocals had insisted on getting gifts for my parents. I had heard the phrase "What would _ like?" Over a thousand times this week. And it was awesome.
"Hot chocolate, anyone?" Erik, adorned in a hilariously pink apron, poked his head into the room. Dad appeared with him, a mug in each hand. Watching them together was like watching two ten-year olds. They got along almost too well.
"Me!" I rose my hand. "With extra-"
"-marshmallows," Dad finished for me. "You got it, Rinny."
"Aww," Miku cooed once they disappeared back into the kitchen. "They call you Rinny, too."
I shrugged. "Ever since I was little. It kinda stuck around, I guess."
Len came through the door, a steaming bowl of corn in his hands. He set it down carefully, then almost ran headfirst into my Dad as he turned around.
He looked like a deer caught in headlights. My dad clapped him on the shoulder, handing him my hot chocolate. "We've got it from here," Dad told him with a smile. "Go sit down, son."
"Dad!" I yelled.
"Ah, sorry. Sorry. Too soon." He went back into the kitchen with Mom.
Len took his seat next to me, still looking a bit dazzled. He leaned closer to me, dropping his voice. "Does that mean he likes me?" He asked, almost concerned.
I had been mid sip, and nearly laughed hot chocolate out of my nose.
"Alright, kids!" Grandma called, emerging from the kitchen. She took a seat at the other end, next to Mom and Dad's empty seats.
First was Dad, with a plate of bread rolls in one hand, and the gravy in the other. Behind him was Mom. In her hands was a platter of sliced ham.
"Dinner is served!" Dad called, setting down his plates and taking his seat. Erik sat between him and Meiko.
"This was a great idea, Rin," Luka said as she loaded her plate.
I shrugged, shovelling mashed potatoes onto my dish. "Wasn't my idea. It was his." I pointed to Len with my spoon.
"Well thank you for coming up with it," Mom said with a smile.
"Oh my God," Miku said as she took the first bite of ham. "I'm about to eat myself to death."
Erik and Dad fell into an amusing conversation that I could not hear. Next to him, Mom, Grandma, Luka, and Meiko were giggling and laughing together. Clinking dishes and laughter. It was so great, and we hadn't even gotten to the presents yet.
The only thing that could make this night better would be Ia. She had been unable to come, since it would be tough for her to be away from her parents during the holidays, but she sent her best wishes, and promised my parents that a present would be arriving in the mail soon. To my knowledge, we were having another little celebration back at the house when we flew home, and Ia was coming to that one. More Christmas, I thought with a smile.
"Is it good?" Len asked next to me. He ate with his left hand, I with my right, to account for our joined hands under the table.
I nodded. "The mashed potatoes are my favorite."
"This next concert it gonna kick a- butt," Miku said. Covering my mouth, I laughed at her censorship. Like my parents cared. "We gotta have you do another, like, grand reveal. It'll be just like your first show. Everyone's gonna love to see you back."
"When is it?" I asked, setting my spoon down.
"We haven't decided when are where, yet," she answered. "But I want to go somewhere out of the country. Beijing. Moscow. Paris, maybe? I dunno. But we gotta take some vacations."
"Paris sounds fun," Len chuckled, giving me a sneaky look.
"Ew," Miku shook her head. "You guys are like, sickeningly cute together."
Gumi turned her attention to us, hearing the nature of our conversation. Smiling deviously, she rose her voice, and, being so good at making things way more awkward than they need to be, asked. "So, guys. When's the wedding?"
I'm, like, in tears. How did this happen. Its done. I can't believe it.
I don't think I've ever written something so long that I'm at least somewhat proud of. Ahhhhh. I feel like I need to throw a party to celebrate, or something.
Welp. Onto the next.
If you guys stuck with it to the end, I applaud you. I don't know if I would have the guts to look at a monster like this and actually read the whole thing. Thank you guys so much for sticking around.
Love you all.
See you in the next fic! :)
