It was the price of his immortality… a price he had never intended to pay. He rushed off at the sound of the Holy Knight. Most would have questioned his actions if they knew his true emotions… most would have stayed and pined for their lost lover… Ban wasn't most people. In fact he wanted nothing more than to get away. Seeing Elaine like that… dead; that was the hardest part of this adventure. At first he ran after her, hoping to find a way to finish what he had started when she died. Now, he simply wanted to get away; he wanted to forget, in the way he had when he was a part of the Seven Deadly Sins. Yeah, he wanted to see Elaine, but he wanted to see her alive, in his arms. Before he could leave she called him back and he stopped himself from turning… from seeing her glow in a way that only the dead could. And when she asked him to finish he could do nothing but comply "Someday, I'll definitely make you mine…"

As he walked away he thought of the past. He drank to forget, his thirst for pain was to help him forget, the Seven Deadly Sin were there to help him forget… that he would always be alone. He had gone to the fountain seeking eternal life as a way of finding a better life. Despite not getting what he had originally desired at first, for a short moment in time he had found that happier life with Elaine. She had accepted him despite his many faults and for once in his short miserable existence he had hoped that Elaine was the end to his anguish. But the eternal life he had sought after so greedily was now nothing but a curse to him. After Elaine's death he was now forced to live in a world without the one person he loved and that was his Hell. He could never join her in death. So instead of dying he would simply make her join him in life once more. He would do anything for that. Anything. Most people didn't see that in his eyes. They saw the lazy grin and the greedy stare but they never saw what was behind his stare. A longing for something he could never have that was so strong he would throw away everything for just a glimpse of it. That was true greed, to want something you could never have so badly you would destroy the world itself… and Ban was nothing if not greed…
