Chapter 3: The Day McGonagall Retired, or at least tried to.(2014)

T'was a bright sunny summer day, Headmistress McGonagall was sat in her office admiring the sunlight as it shone through her window, in her hands she held a saucer and cup of tea. Breathing in deeply she released a relaxed sigh at the scent of her Chamomile tea. With her in her office sat the tiny deputy Headmaster Fillius Flitwick, he however had a worried expression, a sheen of sweat forming on his forehead and bottom lip caught on his teeth. He had initially come to discuss this years new arrivals, however when he had mentioned a specific student a large crack sounded in the office.

Headmistress McGonagall had accidentally shattered her tea cup with her magic.

Rather than mentioning it she simply repaired the mess and poured some more tea into. For the next ten minutes she sat in silence admiring the sky. To deputy headmaster Flitwick it felt like several hours had passed before she spoke.

"Yes..." She began softly, startling the half-Goblin, "I believe I will retire Fillius."

"WHAT!"

Of all the things she could have said that was what he had least expected.

"Term begins in four days, what on earth are you thinking Minerva!" Frantic could not begin to describe the deputy's state of mind.

'What could have brought this on, I only mentioned... oh' The half-Goblin paused his line of thought, looked at the dazed Headmistress, looked away, and then back again.

"Does this have anything to do with young Mr. James Sirius Potter?"

"I can't do this again Fillius!" She suddenly burst out, her eyes wide and frightful. "Merlin knows how many years I lost when dealing with the marauders and Weasley twins!"

If not for how serious she appeared Fillius would laugh.

"Come now Minerva you can't retire just because of that," He paused to consider his next words, "And I'm sure that one eleven year old child could be as mischievous as four teenagers. His namesakes don't guarantee his character anyway."

She did not seem convinced. Fillius sighed and spent the next few hours convincing the woman to not retire.

One week later they once more sat in the Headmistress' office, the Headmistress glaring daggers at the tiny deputy, slouched slightly and her arms crossed.

"So I may have been slightly wrong." The half-Goblin finally said, looking quite amused as he sipped on his tea.

"Oh yes, only slightly wrong." The Headmistress bit out, teeth grinding together almost audibly.

Fillius sipped his tea. Minerva exploded.

"HE'S BEEN HERE TWO AND A HALF DAYS AND HE'S ALREADY CAUSED MORE 'MISCHIEF' THAN THE MARAUDERS MANAGED IN THEIR SECOND YEAR!"

She stood toweringly in front of the half-Goblin, her eyes wide and manic and her hair in disarray.

"I'm leaving Fillius and you can't stop me!" She declared suddenly, sprinting around the man and making him spit out his tea.

"No wait Minerva, I'm sorry, don't leave me to deal with this alone!" He shouted as he ran after her with his short legs. For the next three hours the students of Hogwarts entertained themselves watching the Headmistress and Deputy Headmaster play cat and mouse across the castle, only with the roles reversed. By the end of the three hours the mouse won and the cat animagus sat in a cage pouting.

Hi. So. I realised I didn't really plan a proper story line for this one so decided to just make it a bunch of related drabbles or snippets into the lives of Harry Potter and Co. post Hogwarts. So expect short chapter and probably sporatic uploads as I'm busy with school and soon work (hopefully).
