A/N: Long time no see everyone! Hopefully there are still some people who are excited for this story to continue haha. Im so sorry for the wait, it's quite literally been THREE YEARS but I am back! I always hate when writers disappear and never return so i figured I'd try to finish what i started. Thank you all for sticking by me, on with the story!
"So, you really thought you could get away with it huh? You good for nothing punk!"
A gentle hum along with a dim glow radiated from the television in the center of the room, the dialogue barely audible as the subtitles danced across the screen.
Maka absolutely despised violent movies, and yet she knew deep down that Soul had picked that particular kind of film tonight simply to mess with her.
But despite her hatred of the genre, she couldn't help but notice a certain weapon's arm loosely slung across her shoulders on the couch. His head was angled inward and slightly grazing hers, to anyone else it appeared as a completely innocent and relaxed position between close friends.
But Maka has been paying very particular attention to this position for the past hour and a half.
The others had very obliviously made themselves well at home. Black*Star sprawled himself out in the arm chair to the left, focusing intently on the screen while Tsubaki made herself comfortable on the floor in front of him, cuddling a couch pillow as she fought her eyelids to remain open.
Liz and Kid sat next to Maka and Soul on the couch, both with their own blanket. Kid was muttering something under his breath about the main characters choice of costume while Liz was filing her nails absentmindedly.
Patty had been "styling" Crona's hair on the floor to the right for the past hour or so. But despite the latter's many attempts to escape, Patty had managed to deal out some serious hair reconstruction.
Maka was jealous of her friends' ability to distract themselves. Hell, she sure wished she could in her current predicament. She was more then 100% sure that if you asked her what the main characters name is, she would not be able to answer.
After all, how could she be expected to pay attention to such a thing when Soul was so close to her...
And he smelled so good...
Maka shook her head slightly to rid her thoughts of such things and unconsciously relaxed into the sofa, letting her head fall loosely on Soul's shoulder. His head had already been tilted toward hers, but now their faces were merely three inches away from touching.
Maka's face flushed when Soul turned his head at her sudden shift, realizing their lack of personal space. He smirked.
"Gettin' real cozy now, aren't you Maka?" He leaned in, his warm breath hitting her cheek and giving her goosebumps.
"I um, I didn't even realize how c-close we were…" She mentally punched herself for allowing herself to stutter in front of Soul, "I was kind of just dozing off actually.. Yeah! I uh, just nodded off for a second there, sorry about that!"
Soul's smirk shifted into a knowing grin and Maka felt her heart thud as the room instantly grew fifty degrees hotter then it was before. His hand gripped her shoulder, not too roughly but firmly enough to keep her from standing up.
"Oh really~?" Soul whispered into her ear teasingly. "I don't understand how you're able to relax in this situation, to be honest I haven't been able to pay any real attention to anything except you…"
Maka swallowed hard.
"In fact," Soul's hand loosened and began lightly tracing patterns along her forearm. "I could get used to you being all cuddled up in my arms like this, it's actually very comfortable. But I could think of one thing that might make this whole experience much more fun…"
Maka turned her face to look Soul in his eyes and sharply took in a breath when she saw the desire in his eyes. Soul used his free hand to cup Maka's cheek and she gleefully burrowed her face into it, causing the weapon to smile adoringly.
"Fuck it." She heard Soul growl under his breath, he brought his face a centimeter closer to hers and Maka's eyes naturally fluttered shut in anticipation.
"I'm boooooooooooored." Black*Star suddenly groaned VERY loudly from his section of the room.
Soul and Maka immediately detached themselves from one another, both glancing around the room to make sure no one had been paying attention to the two of them. Luckily, everyone appeared to be completely oblivious to the couple's growing tension.
But boy, was Soul frustrated.
"Shut up and keep watching the damn movie." Soul spat, irritation etched in his words.
"There hasn't been a fight scene for like the past half hour, I wanna do something elseeeee." Black*Star whined, hopping up from his seat, alarming and fully waking up Tsubaki. "Let's play a game or something! I bet I could beat all your asses to the ground!"
"W-we sold all our board games t-to get more money for textbooks." Maka tripped over her words, beet red and still not completely recovered from what almost occurred.
"What about video games? I absolutely RULE at Blood Bath Anarchy!" Black*Star ran to the television set to grab a gaming controller.
"Actually.." Maka sighed, gaining most of her composure back. "We're banned from playing video games for the next three months, ever since that controller you're holding found it's way through the wall and into our neighbors priceless antique painting. Isn't that right Soul?"
Everyone turned to look in his direction, jaws dropped in disbelief. Soul muttered something inaudibly and rubbed the back of his neck, turning his head away. Black*Star groaned once more.
"So there's no board games AND no video games, what can we do then?"
"We could play the king game?" Tsubaki chirped in happily. Half the room cheered with agreement while the other half sat in confusion.
"That sound's vaguely familiar.." Kid said curiously.
"It's a game where one person is elected as the 'King' and gets to order all the others to do funny dares and stuff, I used to play it as a kid."
"The King Game? Sounds like it was MADE for me! I'm totally down!" Black*Star shouted.
"Do you have a piece of paper and a pen, Maka?" Liz inquired, Maka retrieved both items and noticed her ripping up the paper into smaller pieces. She labelled the pieces with the numbers 1 through 7, and wrote the word "King" on another.
"Alright everyone!" Liz smiled, shuffling the pieces together, "Take your picks!"
