"I used to design for gods!" - Edna Mode
A small woman with dark hair and large glasses sat at a table in a chic cafe. She held a large notebook in one hand and a fistful of colored pens in the other. As she worked on her drawing she ordered several cups of coffee, but never left her table. She was meeting someone - someone who was running rather late. If this someone took much longer their tardiness would not be tolerated and the woman would leave, never looking back.
However, right as she was about to cap all her pens and leave the establishment a tall, dark figure blocked the doorway. The woman raised an eyebrow and gave the figure a suspicious glance. A few of the cafe's patrons caught the whiff of danger that followed this man and quickly left the eatery. The woman held her ground, slowly putting away her drawing tools.
"You're late." She noted threateningly.
"It couldn't be helped." The man moved from the door and sat across from her.
"You know how I feel about bad excuses. I do not tolerate them!"
"I'm sorry, but I'm here now, aren't I?" The man had a British accent and every word he spoke was arrogant or condescending. The woman didn't notice.
"Yes, yes!" She waved it away, "Now stop wasting my time and get on with this before I change my mind and once again become sane," A smile formed on her lips, "It's good to see you darling."
"And you, Edna," The man smiled back, "How have you been?"
"Feh! All of my clients now have no style! It's all stars stripes and hulking muscles. Not like you, Loki. At least you have a sense of fashion," She jumped onto the table and took the helmet from his head, "Hmm… though you seem to be losing it. This helmet will never do darling, never! Trash!" Edna threw the horned helmet into a nearby trash can and wiped her hands. Loki rose from his chair and quickly resurrected the helmet from the trash.
"If I recall correctly, you designed this helmet." He pointed out.
"Feh!" Edna crossed her tiny arms and pouted, "I've said it before and I'll say it again, I never look back, darling, it distracts from the now!"
"This helmet is what I wore when I attacked New York! When I became king of Asgard!" Loki protested.
"And both of those events were failures! If you wear this helmet that is all you will be… a failure!" Edna declared.
"You know nothing, you diminutive…" Loki began hissing but was cut off when Edna shoved a crumpled up paper in his mouth. He spat it out and gave her a baffled look, "What…?"
"Gobble, gobble, gobble! Too much darling, too much! Be quiet and let my genius work." She took out her drawing pad and began furiously scribbling, when she was done she held out the drawing for him to see and he nodded.
"All right, I admit it has potential. I still don't know about leaving out the helmet…"
"You'll thank me later darling. Okay? Okay. I make this for you and you will wear it. Good. I must go now, but I'll call you when it's finished. Goodbye darling!" The little woman patted him on the head and kicked the helmet one more time on her way out of the cafe.
Loki stared after her in confusment, wondering what exactly had just happened. He had just witnessed the hurricane that was Edna Mode. And that is why Loki's outfit in Thor; The Dark World is different from his outfit in the Avengers.
