See? I'm trying I swear haha. Though, I wanted to use a different song for this one, but I couldn't find anything that would fit. Oh well, that sucks. Anyway, you can clearly see I changed the format to be past tense, for a good reason mind you. It'll change eventually. Nothin is mine but the obvious.
Forever the Sickest Kids - She's a Lady
I was told to pack only what I could fit into a single suitcase so the Helicarrier could lift off. Grumbling, I shoved pair after pair of slightly ripped jeans and oversized sweaters into my only bag, and stood outside waiting for direction. Taylor came up behind me, lugging an army green duffel bag that probably weighed more than her. More than likely, it was filled with books.
Fury came down the walkway immediately, the wind from the blades making the night air colder than it already was. Shivering, I figured that was a bad omen of things yet to come. And boy, was I sure as shit right. Apparently, Fury called a team meeting just for Taylor and I to be introduced to our training partners. Walking into what can only be described as a board room, I saw four other people sitting in various spots. The first person that caught my attention was a blond, pretty fit guy with shoulder length hair. He had green eyes, and had what I'd say was the most soothing presence I've ever felt. It instantly calmed me, and relaxed all the tension I had been holding in since sunset. At the sound of our footsteps stopping, he looked up and smiled. Standing, he walked over and stuck out his hand.
"Hello, my name is Daniel Rand. But you can call me Danny". Mm, I hate to say it, but this whole team thing got a hell of a lot better looking. Glancing to my right, I see Taylor's hand shaking as she goes for the handshake. Damn, she's starstruck. Oh well, it was a fun crush while it lasted. The next person to introduce themselves was this huge guy who looked like he spent hours in the gym per day. He was black, and wore a tight shirt to show off his muscles.
"Luke Cage. Go ahead, try and hurt me".
"Uh... Okay...?" More than a little confused by his request, I tried to think of the least lethal spell I knew.
"Glacies". Ice began to harden around his arm, and he chuckled.
"I don't even feel that, c'mon, you can do better"
"Cool it Luke. No need to show off to a new recruit", a girl with dark honey skin and brown hair said. Ugh. She reminded me of so many girls I hated in the past. Smart, but knew it and flaunted it. She and I wouldn't be getting along, I knew it immediately.
"Ava Ayala. Don't bother me unless you have a 4.5 GPA". Jesus. Does anyone even have one that high? That's incredibly ridiculous.
"You know that's ridiculous, right Ava," the last guy said. He was lighter than Ava, but not by much. Short dark hair, green eyes, irritating voice. Eugh, he's gonna be a problem too. Smirking, he glances over at us and gives a curt nod.
"Sup ladies? I'm the alpha man around here, so feel free to ask me anything".
"Cadere". His chair suddenly flipped backwards, and he tumbled to the ground. "No thanks, I'm fine", I said, smirking right back. The others laughed, and Danny offered his hand.
"Sam, you must have better manners in the presence of guests".
"No way! Did you see what she did?! She's a witch!" Frowning slightly, I picked up the overturned chair and set it back in place.
"I guess it's our turn for introductions. I'm McKenna, this is Taylor. Sixteen and thirteen, respectively". Luke nodded, and held his hand up to Taylor for a fist bump.
"Nice job getting on the team so young. What can you do?" Walking back to the door, Talyor stopped and asked for the ring I wore on my right hand. Taking it off, I tossed it to her and stepped to the side, knowing what was about to happen. Taylor asked Luke to stand at the monitor on the other end of the room, arm flush against the wall with the ring slightly raised above it. She took a pencil out of her bag, paused for a breath, and let go.
"Sweet Christmas!"
Luke jumped when the pencil landed with a thud, dead in the center of the ring. The others turned to my sister awestruck, and I couldn't help but feel proud. She was a marksman, best I'd ever saw. She could kill a fly from up to 60 feet away with no scope, but doesn't like to. That's what made her the most dangerous person I'd ever met. This demonstration was just child's play to her, and I couldn't wait to see what else she could do here. Oh... Wait a minute. Fury said I'd have a co captain didn't he? And all of these idiots were too inexperienced for the job so...
"Unfortunately, Parker couldn't make it tonight. He'll be here in the morning though, so make sure to be up bright and early to greet him". I nearly jumped a foot off the ground when I heard Fury's voice from behind me. Jesus. Okay, so he'd be there tomorrow. Good to know. Leaving the room, I steered Taylor in the direction of where our rooms were, and went to bed.
-~-
Come daylight, Fury had us up and in tge training room immediately. As expected, it was going pretty bad. On the bright side, it gave me a perfect opportunity to access each person and decide how to handle them. Luke went by Powerman, which made sense since he was all strength and muscles. Follows well enough when not showboating, so he should be fine to command in the midst of battle. Ava, or White Tiger, was totally being a try hard. She obviously wanted to impress Fury with her skills and dedication, so she followed his rules like the President himself told her. Only would listen to someone who she deemed fit to lead, so I had some work to do to gain her respect and trust. I assumed that'd only happen when I either died or sacrificed myself to save another.
So yeah, when I died.
Sam, who took up the name Nova, was so out of his league, it was insane. He goofed off the whole time, never listened to a word from anyone, and always wanted to fight the "big bads". Good thing no one told him who my dad was. Oh, and his new nickname for me was "Witch". If he said it again, we'd see how much of a witch I really was. Iron Fist was the only one I had the most respect for. Danny was honestly my favorite out of everyone because not only was he level- headed and insightful, but also had the skills to back him up. Only questioned my tactics if he thought the others would get hurt, which I could respect. Speaking of others, the last member of our little light brigade showed up. An hour late.
Spider-Man. What a stupid name for a hero. Peter was the leader of the team, which meant I had to constantly talk with him about what to do with the team. Shaggy brown hair, blue eyes brighter than mine. I didn't like him very much. He made way too many jokes, and never seemed to take anything seriously. I thought the feeling was mutual, but that changed pretty quick...
So what if most of the others didn't like me? Fury only said I had to teach them so they at least know what they were doing. Of course, a little respect would be nice, but whatever. They all knew not to cross me because I made sure I set my foot down by showing them my strongest incantation spell during training the first day. That's what started the "witch" trend from Nova, but what did it matter? He wasn't the first to call me that. As long as they understood their places, we wouldn't have any problems. Of course, the worst I could threaten them with would be changing them into an animal. Which, thinking about it, they were all well on their way to doing that by themselves. My first set of abilities only allowed for a few bells and whistles, and a lot of rules. One such rule being that I couldn't harm anyone unless they were inflicting pain on someone else. Even then, I still couldn't kill them. That's why I wanted to have full control of my Shadow, but that comes up later in this little tale. In short, being in control gave you a world of abilities with zero limitations.
