A/N: I've been in a Disgust and Sadness friendship kinda mood. Thanks for reading and here's to hoping that I think of something more upbeat next time!

Sadness seemed just as sad as she normally did. Same wide, solemn eyes and same small blue lips that couldn't even offer up a fragile smile because she had nothing to smile about. Same old crestfallen attitude.

Joy told Disgust that she'd always been like that, and it wasn't hard to believe since Sadness hadn't proved her otherwise.

But there was something uneasy stirring in the pit of her stomach this time, telling her that they were all wrong to treat her this way. And when Joy drew that little chalk circle and told Sadness to stay in there, her stomach churned even more.

That can't be right, can it? I know we've never been fond of her but does she really deserve to be degraded like that? Disgust shook her head and attempted to refocus herself on her work. What should Riley wear to school? What should Riley wear to school? What should Riley wear to school? Her eyes steadily drifted over to the manual section again. Stop it! She makes Riley sad, she probably belongs there. But as soon as the thought slipped through her mind she immediately regretted it.

Her pensive green eyes finally settled on Sadness and the bitter feeling returned again. She looked miserable standing in that dark corner by herself. It probably hurts even more when she looks over the edge of a manual and sees all of us over there like a family and her like...like no one. Standing on the outside... Disgust let out a huff of air.

It's wrong. What we're doing to her is wrong.

Disgust snuck a quick glance towards the console and found that her friends were all grouped over there, distracted by their work. She chewed her lip thoughtfully. Might as well do this while no one's looking.

Disgust carefully approached the chalk circle and scuffed away a part of the edge with her toe. Then she cleared her throat, hesitantly because her brain still hadn't caught up with current events. It was all gut instinct. "I broke the circle." Oh, geez. Thank you, Captain Obvious!

Sadness jolted and spun around to face her. She eyed Disgust for a moment as if she were deciding whether or not it would be a good idea to talk to her. It seemed like such an alien concept, having an actual conversation with someone. "What?"

"You don't have to stay here. I uh…I broke your circle," Disgust repeated, this time she repeated it for herself. Oh my god, I broke her circle? What am I supposed to say if someone spots me over here? Argh, I still don't know if what I'm doing is right…I better end this soon.

Sadness gazed down at her feet. Sure enough, there was a blurry white mark where the chalk line had been. But what was this supposed to mean? Were they friends or was she just being nice? Regardless of her reason, it was worth thanking her for. The other Emotions didn't normally treat her like this.

But when she looked up, Disgust had already fled…

Sadness sighed softly and tried not to think of the crooked Core Memory shining just out of the corner of her eye...
