A/N: I know I know it has been forever but life got in the way and a monster called thesis puts me off any kind of writing currently. Still I managed to get inspired tonight and finish this off for you. This chapter will be the last one for now at least, though I do have some plans for a few one shots in this universe. Still, don't hold your breath cause I have no idea if I'll ever get around to writing them.

I would like to thank all readers and reviewers and especially those who stuck with this story through these slow updates. I really hope that the final chapter does not disappoint you. Enjoy!

"The Volturi saved you?" Victoire asked a slight disbelief colouring her voice and Rian wasn't surprised. The one lesson they taught about vampires in Hogwarts didn't exactly paint the self-appointed leaders of the race in a favourable colour.

"Yes." Rian nodded.

"But why?"

Rian chuckled. "I think there is no being in this planet who can fully tell what goes on in Aro's mind. He does what he wants, when he wants and there is no one to stop him. It could be that he was intrigued by my appearance or by my gift, for I am sure Eleazar informed him as soon as he set eyes on me, or then it might have been just a spur of the moment thing. I doubt we shall ever know."

"So what happened?" Teddy asked eagerly.

"Well, one moment I was surrounded by an angry mob and the next they were all gone, minding their own business, most likely having no memory of what they had been doing."

"Serah." Carlisle said knowingly and Rian nodded.

"Who's Serah?" Emmett asked.

Rian and Carlisle exchanged a glance and Carlisle took over.

"Serah was a high member of the Guard with the ability to control people's minds for a short period of a time." He said. "She could make you forget what you were doing or influence you to do something even against your will if you were not strong-minded enough." He continued looking at Rian.

"She never did get into my head, thank Merlin." Rian commented.

"You said "was". What happened to her?" Alice asked.

"She…died." Rian said.

"She was the highest member of the Guard and Aro's personal favourite. He had transformed her more than 500 years earlier and considered her almost a daughter in a way he never had anyone else before." Carlisle said.

"What happened? How did she die?"

"Aro killed her." Rian said quietly. He had liked the girl though they had never been particularly close.

"Around the time Harry and I were preparing for our departure from the Volturi, Serah disappeared. She supposedly left for a mission for Aro, but after months passed she never came back." Carlisle explained before Rian picked up the story.

"Aro send Demetri to track her down and she was dragged in front of him along with a human man and a small child."

"She had fallen in love with a human." Carlisle said glancing at Edward.

"She had fallen in love and claimed that the man was her mate." Rian said sombrely. "The man was terrified of her but she had been using her gift to manipulate him to think that he loved her, only it lasted only for short periods of time. She refused to change him or hurt him and tried everything to convince him that they belonged together. She had killed the man's wife and turned their small child claiming that the child was hers."

"Aro tried to reason with her, get her to come to her senses but nothing helped. He got angry and killed the man and the child in front of her and she snapped. She tried to use her gift on Aro but Aro's mind was too strong for her and it backfired. She tried to physically attack him but failed and Aro ripped her to pieces in front of the whole Volturi." Carlisle said closing his eyes. Rian took his hand comfortingly as they both relived the horrible moment.

"As interesting as it is to hear gruesome tales of the Volturi's impressions of law, I think we are here to learn about you." Rosalie looked piercingly at Rian, breaking the silence. Esme looked at her disapprovingly.

"Rose." She warned.

"No, she is right." Rian said with a small smile. "Let us continue with the story." He paused to gather his thoughts.

"So as I said I was saved by the Volturi and taken to meet Aro and the others. Aro was instantly intrigued by me, especially when he learned of my unusual diet and made it his mission to break my resolve during my stay with them." He continued. "At the time of when I met them I was drifting, not really belonging anywhere and quite frankly, a bit lonely so I welcomed the company and when Aro asked me to stay I accepted although within my own terms. I did not condone the lifestyle the Volturi leads but I did not blame them either as most vampires live with human blood. We had some very interesting debates about the subject though." He reminisced. "I refused to be part of the Guard or be at Aro's beck and call and surprisingly he accepted my terms, though he did not give up on convincing me otherwise. I spend my time learning history and composing and basically doing anything I had ever wanted to do. And in 1843 I met Carlisle." He smiled brightly at the memories.

Carlisle smiled back and kissed the back of his hand.

"Aro introduced us and we became friends…"

"More like danced around each other for half a decade before admitting that we were drawn to each other." Carlisle chuckled.

"Well yes." Rian laughed. "But it was a difficult time. Same-sex relationships were a taboo basically everywhere in the world. Even vampires who were mates had to hide most of the time in fear of repercussion."

Carlisle nodded in agreement.

"We got on Aro's nerves though." He laughed. "He wanted to bang our heads together and get on with it from basically the moment we met. He was telling me to get on with it or he'd snatch you himself."

"Only took you five years." Rian teased.

"It's not like you were any better." Carlisle shot back and Rian shrugged grinning.

"Anyway, we finally got our heads off our arses and admitted we were in love and spend the next decade driving Aro up the wall and making him regret ever wanting us together, with our "lovey dovey" behaviour." He continued.

"In 1861 we decided it was time to move on and left the Volturi together." Carlisle smiled.

"The next years were one of the happiest times of my life." Rian said.

"So what happened? Why did Carlisle think you were dead and you him?" Edward asked. "We have heard Carlisle's side of the story, what's yours?"

Rian nodded and took a deep steadying breath.

"It was just past the start of the new century and we were living in London. Carlisle was working as a doctor and I continued my work with the orphanages. We were attending a party when it happened…"

Flashback

London, 1900

Harry smiled as he watched Carlisle's retreating back. Little did his beloved know that Dr. Cliff was going to offer him to take over his hospital. Although the party was arranged for Harry's benefit they were surrounded by their friends and colleagues and a surprise celebration was planned for Carlisle.

It was almost time.

Geoffrey only needed to inform Carlisle about it and for him to accept, which was of course the perfect ruse to get Carlisle out of the building for a few minutes so that they could change the decorations.

Harry was going over the plan with the musicians when the first scream was heard. Instincts, left from the War led Harry towards the noise and he saw Mrs. Goulder crumble into the ground as a young woman, beautiful as the angel of death, stood over her licking the dripping blood from the corners of her red lips.

"Delicious." The melodic voice of the woman hummed as her blood-red eyes scanned the room, which occupants were still as if they were in a picture.

The stunned silence lasted for only a second as room was made for panic. The people started to run screaming away from the demonic woman and her dozen companions that feasted on their friends and colleagues.

Harry was pushed within the crowd due to his weakened condition while the smell of fresh human blood paralyzed him. He could smell the delicious scent and see the veins pulsing under the thin skin on the necks of the people surrounding him. His senses were consuming him and the monster inside him was forcing its way to his consciousness like never before. Panic filled Harry's mind as he felt his control slipping no matter how hard he tried to fight back.

He closed his eyes and stopped breathing, willing himself to stay in control. He used all his power and knowledge of mind arts from his "previous life" and sunk deep into his mind fighting for control over his vampiric instincts.

Harry didn't know how much time had passed when a melodic voice pulled him back into reality.

"Hey there little one." The voice cooed.

Harry opened his emerald eyes and saw a young blond woman with glittering red eyes gazing down at him adoringly. But something was wrong. The vampire seemed… too big. Like she was the size of a giant. Harry looked around the room and saw the bloodless bodies of his friends and colleagues lying on the floor. His sorrow was replaced with a new wave of panic as he realised that everything around him seemed a lot bigger than it was before.

"Aren't you just a cute little baby!" The vampire said her hands reaching down to him. To his horror Harry felt himself being lifted up. "Don't worry baby. I'm gonna be your new mummy." The vampire cooed kissing his cheek as she started running from the building and for a brief moment Harry caught his own reflection and what he had become: a small baby.

End of Flashback

Emmett let out a loud chortle, breaking the flow of Rian's story.

"Your gift is to turn into a baby?" He managed to ask before breaking down laughing again.

"Not exactly." Rian smiled.

"What is it then?" Teddy asked eagerly.

"It is a bit similar to your Metamorphmagi abilities Teddy." Rian said. "But instead of being able to change any feature of my body to anything like you can, I am limited to my own features."

"What do you mean?"

"Essentially I can morph myself to reflect any period of my life from a small baby to an old man but I will always look like myself. I will always have my black hair although I can change the length and style of it. My eyes I can shift between my original green, the red they were when I was transformed, or the different shades of golden brown they were when I started my vegetarian diet, but the shape will always stay as it has been. Do you understand what I mean?" Rian asked.

"I think so." Teddy said frowning.

"Let me demonstrate." Rian said and stood up.

The occupants of the room watched as he started first shrinking slightly and his hair shortened and grew grey and skin turned wrinkled. In seconds, before them stood what seemed to be a 90-year old Rian.

"Amazing." Carlisle said astonished.

"Wow." Teddy gasped.

"That's so cool." Victoire added.

"Oh the possibilities you could do with your gift!" Alice exclaimed. "You can blend anywhere."

"This is how Bella has known you since she was a little girl." Edward commented in understanding.

"Yes." Rian said surprising everyone as his voice matched his appearance, sounding much older than what they were used to. "Every time she came for a visit I made sure to appear the age she knew me to be." He explained as he morphed again and this time they were faced with a gorgeous two-year-old child with a blood-red eyes.

"He looks…" Esme started.

"Like an immortal child." Rosalie gasped.

"This is what happened to you that night. Your gift activated and you morphed into a child and the vampire woman fell in love with you and took you with her." Carlisle said.

"Yes." Rian agreed his voice like an angelic child before he morphed back to his normal look. "Except I was about six-months-old baby incapable of moving on my own or speaking other than baby babble. When I morph I maintain my own mind with all my knowledge and memories but the physical side changes to what it was or what it would be depending on which way I morph."

Carlisle nodded in understanding.

"And when you were morphed into a baby your consciousness was that of a normal baby while all your knowledge and memories were stuck in your sub-consciousness as a baby's brain was not able to process them." He concluded.

"Exactly." Rian said.

"How long did you stay that way?" Victoire asked and the others except for Rian turned to look at her questioningly. "I mean, you said that Rian's brain wasn't able to process his knowledge, so he wouldn't be able to morph back either, right?"

Now all gazes were turned to Rian as they processed this.

"That's why you never returned to Carlisle." Esme said in understanding. "Even though he stayed in London for over a year onwards after the massacre. You were stuck as a baby."

"And that's why the only thing left of you was your ring!" Teddy exclaimed.

"Yes." Rian said sadly looking at Carlisle. "It took me two years to get back to my normal form. I was weak for not having fed blood in such a long time and having only been a vegetarian for few days before I morphed. I could not access my power at all and it was too much of a baby's brain to handle. The vampire who took me, her name was Lucy, tried to feed me human blood but amazingly even as a baby I refused. It took her several months to make me eat anything and even then I ate only because she offered me blood of a grizzly.

"You see, I was of course discovered by the other new-borns and most of them were as fascinated by me as Lucy was. They all thought I was an immortal baby, but not all were happy about my presence. Some were aware of what the Volturi had done to those with immortal children before and wanted to get rid of me. Three months after I had been taken a fight broke out. Several vampires who feared for Volturis prosecution ganged up in an attempt to kill me. However, most of the group had become obsessed by me and my beauty that they were willing to sacrifice themselves to protect me. The two sides started destroying each other and in the mist of it all Lucy grabbed me and ran away.

"For the next year we travelled all over and she was able to feed from humans in villages and cities undetected. Soon however, word started to spread and people were ready for her and she barely escaped with her life intact. You see Lucy wasn't a fighter. She had no strategic bone in her body and was completely unprepared for the resistance of the humans. Thus we ran again and in fear of the humans she occasionally had to resort to feeding from animals.

"As she found out that I would drink animal blood she started feeding from them even more frequently and I started gaining strength. Then one day we came across a couple of nomad vampires in the woods of east Canada. They of course noticed me and the woman insisted Lucy give me to her. Lucy, however, refused and started running, hiding me into a small cave on the way while trying to distract the couple who were determined to have me. However, she got caught only seconds later and I witnessed as they tried to torture the information out of her. Dear Lucy never revealed my location and they killed her.

"I was distressed and angry and that tricked my transformation back to my normal self. I was consumed by anger I had not felt in centuries. I destroyed the nomads before they even had a chance to realise what was happening." Rian said looking down.

"They deserved what they got!" Rosalie said angrily.

Rian said nothing to and continued his story.

"Afterwards, I made my way back to London hoping to find out what had happened to you." He said looking at Carlisle. "I looked through every source I could find but they all indicated that everyone who had been present had died. Our apartment had new occupants and even the landlady had changed. The hospital where you worked had shut down after the death of Dr. Cliff and my orphanages were taken over by the government. Nothing of the life we had built together was left."

Rian looked at Carlisle pain in his eyes, clutching his hand. Victoire sniffed and wiped the tears from her eyes while Teddy held her comfortingly.

"I stayed for a year but lived like a recluse while I mourned for you. In the end the memories got too much and I left. I drifted from city to city, country to country for the next years never settling anywhere." Carlisle reminisced. "I had never felt so alone. It was like…"

"Like a piece of you was missing." Rian filled in quietly. "I felt the same."

Carlisle nodded briefly. "I met Edward in Chicago in 1918. He was dying of Spanish influenza. His parents were already gone and his mother had begged me to save him…"

"You saved him and he became your son." Rian smiled. "You built yourself the family we always dreamed of."

"Yes." Carlisle said and looked into Rian's eyes. "But it was never complete."

Rian grinned happily all his love for Carlisle shining through his gaze as he entwined their fingers together.

"Now it is."
