Chapter 16: The True Tradition

Elsa's POV

I walked up to Anna's door and took a deep breath. I wasn't good at this part. I needed to apologize to Anna about earlier. I knocked on the door, then opened the door.

"Anna, I owe you an apology from earlier." I looked around her room. It was empty. "Anna?"

Just then I heard something in the attic. I got a lantern and went to the attic.

I opened the attic, walked in and looked around. It didn't seem anything was up here. I looked behind me to see Anna and my old chests.

Just then, something moved in the open chest. I jumped back.

Anna removed the blanket over her. "Hi, Elsa."

I sighed in relief. "Anna! What are you doing up here?"

"Looking for traditions," Anna said as she got out of her chest.

"And what are you wearing?" I asked as I looked at what she was wearing.

"My old Viking helmet and this was my sorceress cloak. Dragon feet! Um num, num, num."

I giggled. "I found them in my old trunk," Anna said as she put her things back in the trunk. "What's in yours?"

"Oh, mostly gloves," I said.

"Right. Rows and rows of satin gloves." Anna said as she opened up my chest.

I looked in to see all my gloves.

"Oh," Anna said.

"Yep, welcome to my world," I said as I looked down at the chest.

Anna picked up something. "Wait, who's this little guy?" I realized it was my old stuffed penguin.

"Oh! Sir Jorgenbjorgen! He was a really good listener. Besides Jack, of course." I then looked around. "Anna, how are we going to find any traditions up here?" I said as I dropped Sir Jorgenbjorgen. I then heard a little bell. I moved the doll to find a box that was very special to me. "Unless…" I said as I picked it up.

"What's that?" Anna asked.

"Look inside." I handed it to Anna. She opened it and gasped.

Jack's POV

"Oh great! Seriously Olaf!" I shouted at Olaf.

Olaf shouted back. "Okay, Jack, Sven, I'm not going to sugarcoat it. This is a bit of a setback."

"You think?! Kristoff is going to kill us. That was the sleigh Anna gave him!" I said as I looked back down the bottom of the cliff.

"Oh! Maybe this is salvageable." Olaf said.

"Olaf, it destroyed," I said, looking up at him to see him going through the gifts. "Really!? You're worried about this now!"

He put something on his head. It fell off. "No, definitely not." He then picked up a bottle. "Oh, parts of this are still good, I think." The bottle shattered. "Oh no, this is unsafe now." He said as he buried the bottle in snow. "Hey, the fruitcake! These things are indestructible!"

"The fruitcake had to survive?" I said to Sven. He shrugged.

"I'll just take this seemingly harmless shortcut here, and meet you guys back at the castle, okay?" Olaf said.

"Olaf, don't you dare!" I shouted. But he already disappeared.

Suddenly I heard a wolf howl.

"Oh, puppies." Then heard some growling.

"Should we go get help?" I asked Sven.

"Down boy. I'm just gonna go now!" I heard Olaf say.

"That's a yes." I jumped on Sven.

We started riding as fast as we could back to the castle. Sven headed straight for the forest.

"Wait, Sven, go around," I said. But he ran under a tree. A branch hit me in the head. My vision blurred, and my head was spinning.

"Whoa," I said as I struggled to stay on.

Kristoff's POV

I was about to try the Flemmy stew when suddenly Sven and Jack slid into the stable. They both slammed against the wall.

"Oh, Sven! The Flemmy stew is ready!" I said as I started putting more ingredients in.

Sven ran over and tried to get my attention. "Oh Kristoff, you're so thoughtful. Now, where's my bowl?" I said for Sven. "Hey, simmer down buddy. Here you go!"

Sven looked at the bowl. He then put a carrot in the soup. "Whoa, what are you…" Then tilted the carrot towards me. I looked down at it. It looked like Olaf. But I figured it needed more carrots. "Oh! Of course! Needs more carrots! Can't get enough of them, can you."

Sven then moved over to Jack and dragged him over to me. He helped Jack sit up. Jack just looked up at me and smiled.

"Hello daddy, I want a bear for Christmas," Jack said cheerfully.

Sven then hit him in the head with his antlers.

Jack's face went serious. "Private Jack, reporting of duty, your majesty."

Sven hit him again.

"The cold front is coming through very strongly"

And again.

"You've got to ask yourself one question, do I feel lucky?"

And again.

"Walt Disney Animations presents Frozen 2!"

And again.

"Olaf is lost in the woods and being chased by hungry wolves!" Jack said with a hint of urgency in his voice.

"Oh?" I asked.

"Jack, is that true?"

I looked to see Elsa and Anna at that door.

"Yeah, so we've got to go," Jack said as he got up.

"Ring the bell. Gather everyone!" Anna said.

Olaf's POV

I ran through the forest, being chased by the wolves. I could tell they were after the fruitcake.

"Please, I know you're hungry, but I need at least one tradition for my best friends. The fate of the world depends on it." I said as I threw the fruitcake through a hole in the trees and separated myself to get through.

I rolled down a hill and put myself back together. I looked behind and saw the wolves were gone. I then looked down. "Yes! Yes, I did it! A tradition is saved!" I said as I picked up the fruitcake and lifted it in the air.

Just then a hawk grabbed the fruitcake and took off with it.

"Well, I guess hawks need traditions too."

I put my nose back and started to walk.

Happy, merry, holly jolly tidings of good cheer

I never meant to let them down at that time of year

I sat down next to a tree. "Maybe I should stay lost."

Jack's POV

After I grabbed my staff, I went with the others to get people to help find Olaf. Elsa, Anna and I knocked on every door, getting the whole kingdom involved with the search. When everyone was gathered, we took off into the forest and looked for Olaf. I flew right above the tree line looking for him.

"Olaf! Olaf! Come on, buddy I need you to come back!"

I went back to Elsa.

"Any sign of him?" Anna asked us.

"No," Elsa said.

"I've got nothing," I said.

"Keep looking."

We kept searching.

"Olaf, where are you?" Anna shouted as we passed a big tree.

"He's not here," Olaf said, under a big pile of snow.

"Oh," Elsa said with a smile.

"Hmm. I wonder where he went." Anna said as we knelt next to him.

"Well, he probably went on a mission to find traditions for Anna and Elsa," Olaf said.

"As did I," I said.

"Oh. And did they find any?"

"We did," I said.

"But then they caught fire and fell off a cliff. And they caught fire again. And then a hawk took them." Olaf said as Sven pulled him out of the snow

Sven put him down and I hugged the snowman. "I'm sorry Olaf. I should have come with you."

"It's ok." We then turned to the girls.

"I'm sorry. You still don't have a tradition." Olaf said.

"I'm sorry too," I said. "I was just so afraid that Elsa would lock herself back up if we failed."

"But we do, you guys. Look." Anna showed us a box. She opened it up.

"Wait, is that…?"

"Oh of course!" I said.

"Anna made these, years ago. When we first made you. You were the one who brought us together and kept us connected when we were apart." Elsa said.

"Every Christmas, I made Elsa a gift," Anna said.

"All those long years alone, we had you to remind us of our childhood."

"Of how much we still loved each other."

"It's you, Olaf. You are our tradition." Elsa said.

"Me?" Olaf asked.

"Surprise!" Anna said. The girls hugged him.

Sure, it's nice to open a gift

That's tied up with a perfect bow

But the greatest present of all

Was given to me long ago

Elsa got up and lead Olaf over to the villagers. I walked up behind her and wrapped my arm around her.

It's something I would never trade

It's the family that we've made

'Cause when we're together

I have everything on my list

And when we're together

I have all I wished

All around the Christmas tree

There'll be dreams coming true

But when we're together

Then my favorite gift is you

Elsa used her magic to make a trail of ice. We walked down it as I sang to Elsa, Anna, and Olaf.

I would travel miles and miles

And I would follow any star

I'd go almost any place

If it's any place you are

Elsa and Anna started to sing with me.

'Cause when we're together

When we're together

I'll forever feel at home

And when we're together

When we're together

We'll be safe and warm

Doesn't matter where we are

If you're there with me

'Cause when we're together

That's my favorite place

To be

Elsa went to the edge of the lake and stomped her foot. A giant ice tree appeared. I used my magic to hang lanterns on it.

'Cause when we're together

It's a holiday every night

And when we're together

Then the season's bright

I don't need the bells to ring

I don't need the bells

I'll know when it's here

I'll know when it's here

Anna took the tiny Olaf doll Elsa made and gave it to Elsa. She made it into a Christmas star. I picked up Olaf and took him to the top of the tree to put the star on. He put it on. We floated back down to the others.

'Cause when we're together

I could stay forever

And when we're together

It's my favorite time of year

"Well, I think Arendelle has a new tradition," Elsa said to Olaf.

"Thank you, Olaf."

Just then something landed on Olaf. We then heard a hawk caw.

He lifted a fruitcake. "The fruitcake. It's a Christmas Miracle!"

"That's it. I'm done with fruitcake. That is IT!" I shouted.
