"GIRL (REALLY) MEETS MAYA"

Author's Note: This work is purely fanfiction, and I own nothing related to either "Girl Meets World" or its predecessor, "Boy Meets World". I am simply borrowing the characters. The story is written as though it comes from Riley's diary, and the italics represent her imagining something or remembering what happened that day.

Dear Diary, today was the first day back to class after spring break. I didn't realize how much I missed my best friends Farkle and Maya, and of course, my boyfriend Lucas. I know he texted me every chance he got, but it's just not the same as being with him in person. Maya met me at my locker, to show me pictures of her vacation. Shawn took her mom and her to Fiji, since he had a photo shoot there. I am so glad Shawn finally proposed to her. Those girls deserve to have a real family.

Back to the pictures…I don't know why, but I kept focusing on Maya's chest. She's my best friend, and I shouldn't feel this way about her, but I do. I love my boyfriend dearly, but I'm starting to think I might be bi.

I had to talk to my parents about it. Dad is just too goofy, and can't be serious for more than five minutes. Thankfully, Mom is the complete opposite. She knows how to have fun, but also when it's time to be serious. That was not a fun conversation.

"Mom, can I talk to you for a second?" I asked her.

"Sure, honey. You know you can come to me whenever you need to."

"Well, it's about Lucas and me…and, somehow, it involves Maya as well." For some odd reason, my mom's eyes lit up at this. What came out of her mouth next was completely unexpected.

"Oh my gosh! You're pregnant, and Maya's going to be the godmother! I'm going to be a grandma! Yay!"

"Fuck no! I mean, Lucas and I have gotten really close lately, but don't worry, he uses condoms, and I'm on the pill. I want to go through college and be married first."

"First, sweetie, watch your language around your mom. And second, I'm relieved you're not pregnant. I'm too young to be a grandma."

"Thank you, mom, but can I ask you something?"

"I said you could. What's wrong? You look nervous about this conversation."

"Um…I love Lucas to death, but at the same time, I'm having these odd feelings. Feelings about…Maya." I could feel myself blushing at having said that.

"Honey, it's natural at your age to go through something like this. It's all part of discovering who you are. Hell, your father and Shawn went through it too. There was one night where they decided they had to see if they were just friends, or if there could be more between them. Although, it could have just been the alcohol, because it was during your dad's bachelor party. After everyone passed out from having too much to drink, Corey led Shawn to his bed and…well, you can connect the dots from there." Oh my god! Was my mom really telling me about my dad's past life? That is just beyond weird!

So, between you and me, Diary, I have a plan. Mom and Dad are going out on their monthly date night next week, and Auggie will be over at Ava's. I can't believe their pretend relationship back in kindergarten has lasted this long! Anyway, Maya is coming over to watch a few movies and have a girls' night. Mom said we could have some beer, as long as it was just a six-pack, which means three beers each. They don't know that I know where they hide the good stuff, though. I'm going to get myself drunk and just let my feelings spill out. Perhaps I'll share with Maya, and maybe find out if she feels the same way about me.
