Chapter 22: The End

When Lucy woke up the first thing that stood out was the intense pain in her abdomen. It was searing as if her stomach was on fire. The second thing was that she was flat, not angled like she was one she fell asleep, and straight above her were lights. Her throat also hurt, like she hadn't drunk any water in days. She looked to her left and right and noticed that there were doctors still around her.

"Where am I?"

"Ah your awake! Good. This is the recovery room. Once we make sure the anesthesia wore off properly and your good to go you can go into your birthing suite and meet your little one and see your family and guild."

"Okay."

"We were told that you kept the gender a surprise so we won't tell you, you'll just have to wait and see."

"Okay."

"So just some basic questions. What's your name?"

"Lucy Dreyar."

"Good. And what year were you born?"

"X767"

"What country are you in?"

"Fiore."

"And who is the current ruling body?"

"Princess Hisui in the stead of the King."

"Okay you seem good to go. Let's get you to your baby."

They wheeled the entire bed out of the room and down a set of halls, up an elevator, down another set of halls, and finally into a room. When she got into the room the first thing she saw was Laxus holding a small object wrapped in blankets. She could only assume that was their child. Laxus looked up when the door opened and smiled softly at her, waiting patiently for them to finish getting her into the room before he brought the sleeping infant to her. Once she was securely in the room and the transporters had left Laxus walked up to her and handed her the small little bundle.

"It's a boy, he has your eyes. Not really any hair yet but I don't think many baby's do. When they handed him to me all I could think was that he was so tiny."

Lucy gently stroked the infant's cheek, when she did his nose scrunched up, but he didn't wake up. She smiled and looked at Laxus with tears in her eyes.

"What should we name him?"

"Hmm. I was thinking Lukas. Its like I mix of both of our names. I don't have any ideas for a middle name though."

"I do. I was thinking maybe we could give him my fathers name for his middle name?"

"I don't see why not but I thought you guys had a bad relationship."

"At the end it wasn't so bad."

"So, Lukas Jude Dreyar."

Lucy nodded and Laxus smiled, the small child would be their pride and joy. They would do anything for him.

Lucy was finally released from the hospital three days later, and the entire guild rejoiced. Laxus was defiantly much happier to have his mater and son home rather then I the antiseptic filled hospital. Lucy was also much happier to be away from the hospital food. Lukas was a very happy baby, and very rarely every cried. The nurses all loved him, much to Laxus dismay. Lucy was on a strict activity restriction though, so if Laxus wasn't there to tend to him the nurses had to be.

Makarov had come every day to check up on them and had stayed for most of the day. He said that nothing was more important than seeing his cute little great grandson. It eased Laxus mind by magnitudes that it was his grandfather tending to his son more often then the nurses. He knew they were trained and could do it better then his grandfather any day of the week, it was just that he didn't know them. Anyone who knew a dragon knew that was something that didn't fly with dragons.

But all that was in the past. Lucy and Lukas were home now. Lucy was tucked securely in their warm bed, and Lukas safely in his crib as the sun began to set. Laxus had a bottle ready, water and formula powder premeasured for when Lukas woke up. All we had to do was mix them together and warm it up slightly in the bottle warmer. He also had diapers and wipes already set aside for quick grabbing and a spare outfit, just in case. No such thing as too prepared is what his grandfather had told him. Gramps, Ivan, and Ikazuchiryū were just a shout away if they were needed. Even Mira had come over for their first night home to help. But Laxus was determined to show them all that he had this. Everyone was asleep, including Lukas, so it was time for Laxus to get some rest.

Laxus was just getting into bed when Lukas began to scream. Laxus bolted out of bed, bottle and diapers in hand and ran to his son. He picked him up gently and opened his onesie. And then it hit him. The smell, oh god the smell. His dragon nose recoiled, and he gagged. But no, he was determined. A dirty diaper would not stop him! He held his nose with one hand as Lukas laughed at the faces he was making and undid the diaper. The smell made it through his plugged nose and he turned green. And he yelled for help, he had lost.

"OH MAVIS! SEND MIRA!"

He heard soft footfalls up the stairs before a soft laugh and shuffling of diapers. He made his way out of the room and into the bathroom and decided that the only way to never have to experience that ever again is to never change another diaper. Ever…

Five years after the birth of Lukas, they were met with the death of Makarov. The heart attack had come out of nowhere and grief spread through the guild like a wildfire. Everyone thought he was a healthy man, everyone but Polyuscia who knew better. It was right after Lukas fifth birthday when he passed. Lucy was pregnant with their second child at the time. No one knew who was going to take over the guild, it was a rough time for everyone. That is until Ivan suggested something truly surprised everyone right at Makarovs funeral.

"My father was truly an amazing man. He saw the good in me when there was so much wrong I had done to everyone, and he gave me a second chance. He wouldn't want this guild, this family to be led by someone who isn't as noble or who doesn't have that some heart. But at the same time, he also wouldn't want us to drag our asses around and mourn for the rest of our lives either. That's not the type of person he was. He would tell us to keep moving forward, to keep our heads held high and to never forget what's in our hearts. That's why I want, on this same day to nominate someone for the new guild mater of Fairytail that I think lives up to the same principals and ordeals my father stood for, and Mavis knows that isn't me. Rather I think that's my son Laxus.

"My father had a strong set of ideas that revolved around forgiveness and family. I believe that my son learned that first hand, and that's why he would make a good guild master, not because he is a Dreyar, but because he's made mistakes and came back from them and became better for them. Now he has an amazing family and an amazing team. I've watched him for the past, what almost six years? Interact with everyone here as someone that's not above everyone or better then everyone, but equal with everyone. And as we move into a new age I think that what we need."

As he sat down everyone stood up and clapped, giving their unanimous support for Laxus. Everyone agreed that Ivan was right, what they needed someone on an equal playing field. Gildarts stood up and smiled.

"I'll second it. So, what do you say Laxus? Will you do it?"

Laxus had tears in his eyes as he looked at the guild, no as he looked at his guild. Then he smiled and hugged his family and stood up.

"Sure, why the hell not?! Doesn't hurt I know how to do the job huh. Thanks guys. Everything you've said and your support and everything means a lot, and I know it would have probably made gramps cry if he was here to see it. Now let's say it loud enough for gramps to hear it. Who are we?"

Everyone jumped up and shouted.

"WE ARE FAIRYTAIL!"
