The Ood advance towards Jefferson, Jessa, Rose and the other crew member.

"Open fire!" Jefferson yelled as he and the guard fired at the Ood. Jessa quickly covered Rose until they were done shooting. Once the shooting stopped, Jessa steps over the dead bodies of the Ood and grabs the communication device once more, anxious to see if the Doctor was okay.

"Doctor?" She waits for a moment but there's no reply, just static. "Doctor, can you hear me? Doctor? Ida? Are you there?"

"Open Door twenty-five." Jefferson and the guard spun around, guns raised and ready for whatever was coming through the door but it was just Danny.

"It's me! But they're coming." He raises his hands slightly in alarm.

"Close Door twenty-five."

"It's the Ood. They've gone mad." Danny told Jefferson.

"How many of them?" He inquired.

"All of them! All fifty!" Jefferson starts to approach the door.

"Danny, out of the way." Danny doesn't move. "Out of the way!" He order with more ferocity. He pushes Danny out of the way of the door.

"But they're armed! They're dangerous!" Jefferson starts to open the door. "It's the interface device. I don't know how, but they're using it as a weapon."

"Open Door twenty-five."

Jefferson opens the door revealing the group of Ood standing on the other side. One of them immediately advances, sticking the communication ord to the female guard's forehead. Jessa grimaces as the guard lets out a scream and slumps to the floor, dead. Jefferson quickly opens fires then shuts door.

"Jefferson, what's happening, there?"

"I've got very little ammunition, sir. How about you?" Jefferson said into his wrist device.

"All I've got is a bolt gun. With uh," There's a pause, "all of one bolt. I could take out a grand total of one Ood. Fat lot of good that is."

"Given the emergency, I recommend strategy Nine." Jefferson offered.

"Strategy Nine agreed. Right, we need to get everyone together. Rose? What about Ida and the Doctor? Any word?" Jessa shakes her head as Rose grabs her hand and gives it a tight squeeze. Both sisters worried out of their mind.

"I can't get any reply," Jessa answered, her voice shaking slightly. "There's just nothing." Just then, the communication device crackles and the Doctor's voice comes through.

"No! Sorry, I'm fine. Still here!" Jessa let out a relieved sigh as she reaches for the device but Rose beats her to it.

"You could've said, you stupid b-" The communication device screeches loudly, blanking the rest of the word out.

"Rose Olivia Tyler!" Jessa chasitied her sister.

"Whoa! Careful! Anyway, it's both of us, me and Ida. Hello! But the seal opened up. It's gone. All we've got left is this chasm."

"How deep is it?" Zach asked him.

"Can't tell. It looks like it goes on forever." The Doctor replied.

"The pit is open." Jessa repeated what the Beast had said. "That's what the Beast had said."

"But there's nothing? I mean, there's nothing coming out?" Zach wondered.

"No, no. No sign of the Beast." Rose looked over to her sister.

"It said Satan." She said, scared. Jessa wraps an arm around her shoulders.

"There's no such thing as 'Satan', Rose." She whispered but Rose didn't seem convinced and turns back to the com.

"Is there no such thing?" She asked the Doctor but he didn't reply. "Doctor?" He still wasn't answering. "Doctor, tell me there's no such thing."

"Ida? I recommend that you withdraw. Immediately." Zach ordered.

"But we've come all this way!"

"Okay, that was an order. With-draw. With that thing open, the whole planet's shifted. One more inch and we fall into the black hole. So this thing stops right now." Zach told her.

"But it's not much better up there with the Ood." Ida replied.

"I'm initiation Strategy Nine, so I need the two of you back up top immediately, no ar-" Suddenly the com caughts out. "Ida? Ida?!"
"I bet she turned off the com." Jessa informed Zach.

"Great," He sighed as they waited for the Doctor or Ida to com again.

"Jessamine, we're coming back." Jessa beamed brightly, pleased.

"Best news I've heard all day." Jefferson released the safety catch on his gun then suddenly, turns on Toby.

"What're you doing?" Rose asked him, slightly panicked.

"He's infected. He brought that thing on board. You saw it." He aims his gun at Toby. Toby's eyes widen in shock. He's cornered, cowering on the floor.

"Are you gonna start shooting your own people, now? Is that what you're gonna do? Is it?" Rose inquired as she approached him.

"If necessary." Jefferson answered.

"Well then, you'll have to shoot me 'if necessary', so what's it gonna be?" Jefferson pauses as Rose kneels next to Toby. Jessa bites her lip as she keeps a sharp eye on her sister, still wary about Toby. "Look at his face. Whatever it was, it's gone. It passed into the Ood. You saw it happen. He's clean." Jefferson looks like he's considering what she said as Toby breathes heavily, frightened.

"Any sign of trouble, I'll shoot him." Jefferson warned them before moving away.

"Are you all right?" Rose asked Toby.

"Yeah," He was trembling, close to tears. "I dunno." He shakes his head.

"Can you remember anything?" Jessa asked him.

"Just it was so angry. It was fury and rage, death." Toby casted terrified glances around the room before turning to Jessa, meeting her eyes. "It was him. It was the devil." Jessa stares at him apprehensively as Rose turns to him.

"Come here." She draws Toby into a comforting hug. He clings to her, eyes still wide open with horror. The group waited for Ida and the Doctor to make contact again.

"Okay, we're in. Bring us up." Came Ida's voice.

"Ascension in," Jessa smiles in anticipation. "Three, two, one." The mechanism failed causing the lights to go out.

"This is the Darkness. This is my domain." The display on the screen changes to show several Ood standing together, the Beast using them to communicate. "You little things that live in the light, clinging to your feeble Suns."

"That's not the Ood. Something's talking through them." Zach said through the communication.

"Only the Darkness remains."

"This is Captain Zachary Cross Flane of Sanctuary Base Six representing the Torchwood archive. You will identify yourself." He ordered. 'Torchwood?' Jessa thought in interest.

"You know my name." The Beast replied.

"What do you want?" Zach asked it.

"You will die here. All of you. This planet is your grave."

"It's him. It's him. It's him." Toby repeated, trembling.

"If you are the Beast, then answer me this: which one? Hmm? 'Cos the universe has been busy since you've been gone. There's more religions than there are planets in the sky. The Archivist, Pordonity, Christianity, Pash-Pash, New Judaism, Sanclar, Church of the Tin Vagabond. Which devil are you?" The Doctor inquired.

"All of them." The Beast answered.

"What, then you're the truth behind the myth?" He asked next.

"This one knows me, as I know him. The killer of his own kind."

"How did you end up on this rock?" The Doctor questioned, not acknowledging what the Beast had said.

"The disciples of the Light rose up against me. And chained me in the pit for all eternity."

"When was this?"

"Before time."

"What does that mean?!" The Doctor exclaimed.

"Before time."

"What does 'before time' mean?" The Doctor repeated, slightly annoyed.

"Before light and time and space and matter. Before the cataclysm. Before this universe was created."

"That's impossible. No life could have existed back then." He said.

"Is that your religion?" The Beast asked.

"It's a belief." He replied.

"You know nothing. All of you. So small." The Beast stated. "The Captain, so scared of command. The soldier, haunted by the eyes of his wife. The scientist, still running from daddy. The little boy who lied." Danny shifts slightly uncomfortable.

"The virgin," Toby turns, on edge. "The lost girl, so far away from home. The valiant child who will die in battle so very soon." Rose looks to her sister, terrified.

"Jessa, Doctor, what does it mean?" She asked them.

"Don't listen to it, Rose." Jessa said quietly.

"What does it mean?" She asked next, not letting it go.

"Nothing, Rose." Jessa replied, strongly.

"And the woman who courts Death," Jessa froze, staring wide eyed at the communication device. "Doomed to always be alone, always running from the truth, forever hiding her true form."

"Shut up," She mutters out, squeezing her hands into tight fists.

"Tell me, Mistress, when will you finally face the Darkness and embrace it like an old friend?" Jessa slams a fist onto the device.

"Enough!" The Beast let out a dark chuckle.

"Jessa, don't listen to it. It's lying." The Doctor told her.

"You will die and I will live." The footage of the Ood suddenly cuts out and is replaced with a roaring horned beast, which causes everyone but the Doctor and Jessa to gasp and stumble backwards.

"What the hell was that?" Danny questioned, his voice shaking with fear. Everyone started to franticly speak over one another. Jessa rubs at her forehead as she and the Doctor tried to calm everyone down. Suddenly, there was a loud screech coming from the communication device. The babbling instantly stops and silence falls, much to Jessa's relief.

"If you want voices in the dark, then listen to mine; that thing is playing on very basic fears. Darkness, childhood nightmares, all that stuff." The Doctor told them.

But that's how the devil works." Danny replied.

"Or a good psychologist." The Doctor shot back.

"But how did it know about my father?" Ida asked. The Doctor pauses for a moment.

"Okay, but what makes his version of the truth any better than mine? Hmm?" He gives Ida a moment to reply but she doesn't. "Cos I'll tell you what I can see: humans. Brilliant humans. Humans who travel all the way across space. Flying in a tiny little rocket into the orbit of a black hole! Just for the sake of discovery, that's amazing! Do you hear me? Amazing. All of you."

"The captain, his officer, his elder, his genius, his friends. All with one advantage. The Beast is alone. We are not. If we can us that to fight against him," There was a loud band and a puff of dust wafts onto the exploration deck.

"Doctor! The cable snapped! Are you all right, Doctor?" Jessa said into the comms but he didn't reply. "Doctor?!"

"Comms are down." Zach answered. Rose leans over Jessa's shoulder.

"Doctor? Doctor, can you hear us?"

"I've still got life signs, but we've lost the capsule." Zach informed them. Jessa stares at the communication device with a slightly blank look.

"Say something, are you there?" Rose continued to try and contact the Doctor.

"There's no way out." Zach paused for a moment. "They're stuck down there." The group moves over to the deck and peers down the lift shaft.

"But we've got to bring them back." Rose said.

"They're ten miles down. We haven't got another ten miles of cable." Another loud bang on the door makes them jump. "Captain? Situation report."

"It's the Ood. They're cutting through the door bolts. They're breaking in."

"Yeah, it's the same on Door twenty-five." Jefferson replied. Jessa turns to him.

"How long will it take them to get in?" She asked him.

"Well, it's only a basic frame, it should take ten minutes." Another bang. "Eight."

"I've got a security frame, it might last a bit longer, but that doesn't help you." Jessa lets out a sigh as she walks away from the shaft.

"All right, so we need to stop them or get or do both." She offered the group.

"I'll take both, yeah? But how?" Danny inquired.

"Didn't you hear the Doctor? Why do you think the Beast cut him off? He was making sense. He was telling you to think your way out of this." Jessa looked around the dark room. "First, we need some lights. There's gotta be some sort of power somewhere."

"There's nothing I can do. Some captain, stuck in here, pressing buttons." Zach said, bitterly.

"Well, your in luck. That's just what the Doctor wanted, press the right buttons." Jessa smiled.

"They've gutted the generators!" He exclaimed but then pauses, "But the rocket's got an independent supply. If I could reroute that. Mr. Jefferson? Open the bypass conduits. Override the safety."

"Opening bypass conduits, sir." Jefferson presses the appropriate buttons.

"Channeling rocket feed. In three, two, one, power." The lights came back on causing Jessa to clap while Rose cheers.

"There we go." Jessa said, softly.

"Let there be light!" Danny laughs.

"What about that Strategy Nine thing?" Rose inquired.

"Not enough power. It needs a hundred percent." Jefferson answered. Jessa nodded letting the information sink in.

"All right, we need a way out. Zach, Mr. Jefferson, you start working on that." She looks over to Toby then approaches him. "What about you?"

"I'm not a soldier." He told her as he stood up. "I can't do anything."

"Now that not true. You're the archaeologist. What do you know about the pit?" She asked him.

"Well, n-n-nothing. We can't even translate the language." Jessa let out a sigh and starts to turn away. "H-hold on. Maybe." She turns back to him, confused.

"What is it?"

"Since that thing was inside my head, it's like the letters made more sense." She stares at him for a moment, now unsure about what kind of threat Toby would be later down the road.

"Well, I guess it'll work. Anything you can translate." She walks over to Danny. "Axz for you, Danny-boy. You're in charge of the Ood, any way of stopping them?"

"Well, I don't know." He shrugged. Jessa shakes her head and pushes him over to the computer.

"Then figure it out. The sooner we get control of the base, the sooner we can get the Doctor and Ida." Jessa left him to it then moves to stand beside Rose, who was looking down the never-ending shaft. She places a hand on her shoulder. "We'll get him back, Rose. I promise."

"Open junctions five, six, seven." Another bang. "Reroute filters sixteen to twenty-four. Go." Toby was working on the symbols.

"There's all sort of viruses that could stop the Ood. Trouble is, we haven't got them on board." Danny told the girls as he works.

"Well, that's handy, listing all the things we haven't got. We haven't got a swimming pool either. Or a Tescos." Rose replied, sarcastically causing Jessa to give her a stern look. The computer bleeps.

"Oh my god. It says yes!" Danny cheers excitedly. "I can do it! Hypothetically, if you flip the monitor, broadcast a flare it can disrupt the telepathy! Brainstorm!"

"What happens to the Ood?" Jessa asked, concerned for them. They were innocent in all of this, being used by the Beast.

"It'll tank them, spark out!"

"There we are, then! Do it!" Rose said, enthusiastically.

"No, but," His faces falls and shakes his head. "I'd have to transmit from the central monitor. We need to go to Ood Habitation." There's another bang on the door, causing sparks to fly.

"That's what we'll do, then." Jessa decided as she stares at the door. "Mr. Jefferson, any way out of here?"

"Just about, there's a network of maintenance tunnels running underneath the base. We should be able to gain access from here." He told her.

"Ventilation shafts." She smiled.

"Yeah, I appreciate the reference, but there's no ventilation. No air, in fact at all. They were designed for machines, not life forms." He explained.

"But, I can manipulate the oxygen field from here. Create discrete pockets of atmosphere, if I control it manually, I can follow you through the network." Zach stated.

"Right, so we go down, and you make the air follow us. By hand." Rose said doubtfully.

"Jessa wanted me pressing buttons." He replied.

"Yeah," Jessa sighed, "I asked for that. All right, we need to get to Ood Habitation, work out a route." There was another violent bang on the door. Rose, Jessa, Jefferson and Toby were ready to enter the maintenance tunnels, but Danny was still at the computer.

"Danny, let's go!" Jessa called to him.

"Hold on! Just conforming."

"Dan, you gotta go now!" Another louder bang. "Come on!" The computer beeps.

"Yeah!" Danny cheered then takes an orange computer chip from the machine. He shows the others as he hurries over to the entrance to the maintenance tunnels. "Put that in the monitor and it's a bad time to be an Ood!"

"We're coming back. Have you got that?" Rose gave the men a hard stare. "We're coming back to this room and we're getting the Doctor out."

"We will, Rose but we need to focus on the task at hand." Jessa reminded her.

"Okay, Danny, you go first, then the girls, then Toby, I'll go last in defence of position. Now come on! Quick as you can!" Jefferson told them then they all lowered themselves down into the tunnels in the order Jefferson specified. The girls land next to Danny in the tunnel. Rose gives a sniff before wrinkling her nose.

"God, it stinks. You all right?" She asked Danny.

"Yeah, I'm laughing." Toby lands beside them. "Which way do we go?" Danny asked Zach.

"Just go straight ahead. Keep going 'till I say so." He answered as Jefferson appears in the tunnel. The five crawl down the tunnel.

"Not your best angle, Danny." Rose suddenly said as she stares at Danny's rear end.

"Oi! Stop it!" He cried, indignantly.

"I dunno, it could be worse." Came Toby's voice from behind Jessa. She felt her cheeks flush a bright red.

"Cut it out!" She huffed out, embarrassed.

"Straight along until you find junction 7.1. Keep breathing. I'm feeding you air. I've got you." They reach the junction in the tunnels and sit down, out of breath.

"We're at 7.1, sir." Danny informed Zach.

"Okay, I've got you. I'm just aerating the next section."

"Getting kinda cramped, sir. Can't you hurry up?" Danny complained.

"I'm working on half power, here." Zach bit out.

"Stop complaining." Jefferson muttered.

"Mr. Jefferson says 'stop complained." Rose repeated to Danny.

"I heard." He shot back. She turns to look at Jefferson.

"He heard." Jessa rolled her eyes at her sister's antics.

"But the air's getting a bit thin." Toby said into his wrist comm.

"He's complaining now." Rose told Jefferson.

"I head." Danny wipes some sweat from his face. Rose sniffs again before screwing up her face in disgust.

"Danny, is that you?" She asked him.

"I'm not exactly happy." He replied, defensively.

"I'm moving the air. I've got to oxygenate the next section. Now, keep calm or it's gonna feel worse." There's a loud banging coming from the other end of the tunnel. Jefferson aims his gun towards the sound.

"What was that?" Danny asked.

"Mr. Jefferson, what was that?" Rose repeated the question. Jessa already had a feeling what was causing the sound.

"What's that noise?" Toby inquired next.

"Captain, what was that?" Jefferson questioned Zach.

"The junction in Habitation Five's been opened, it must be the Ood." He replied. "They're in the tunnels!"

"Well, open the gate!" Danny exclaimed.

"I've gotta get the air in!"

"Just open it!" Danny paused for a moment then tacked on a quick, "Sir."

"Where are they? Are they close?" Jessa asked Zach.

"Don't know, I can't tell, I can't see them. The computer doesn't register Ood as proper life forms." He answered.

"Whose idea was that?" She inquired incredulous at the stupidity of not making them viewable.

"Open the gate!" Danny practically roars into his comm, sweating and shaking. The gate opens and the five quickly lunge through it.

"Danny, turn left. Immediate left." They crawl down the tunnel as fast as they could with Jefferson going backwards with his gun at the ready.

"The Ood, sir. Can't you trap them? Cut off the air?" He asked.

"Not without cutting off yours." They could hear the Ood continue to pursue them down the tunnel, but they hadn't spotted them yet. "Danny, turn right. Go right! Go fast, Dan, they're gonna catch up."

"I'll maintain defence of position!" Jefferson told the young adults with him.

"You can't stop!" Rose exclaimed.

"Miss. Tyler, that's my job." He sat down, aiming his gun down the tunnel. "You've got your task, now see to it." Jessa bites her bottom lip as she tries to figure out what to do. He would die protecting them so they could get to safety.

"You heard what he said, now shift." Toby pushes the two girls forward, leaving Jefferson behind to face the Ood alone. The four young adults could hear as he fired off his gun as they crawled as fast as they possibly could.

"8.2. Open 8.2. Zach!"

"I've gotta aerate it!" Zach snapped at Danny.

"Open it now!" He yelled furiously.

"I'm trying!" Danny thumps on the gate, desperate.

"Danny, that's enough. It's not helping anyone." Jessa told him as she stopped him.

"Zach, get it open!"

"Jefferson, I've gotta open 8.2 by closing 8.1. You've got to get past the junction, now move. That's an order, now move!" There's no reply from Jefferson except the sound of bullets being fired. "I'm gonna lose oxygen, Jefferson, I can't stop for your dramatics!" Gate 8.2 opens, allowing the four to move through it.

"Come on!" Danny called as he crawled through, Jessa glances back down the corridor before following after the group, hestaintly.

"Danny, turn left and head for 9.2. That's the last one. Jefferson," Zach pauses for a moment. "You've gotta move faster. Move!"

"Mr. Jefferson, come on!" Rose shouts to him.

"Keep going!" Toby pushes her forward. Jessa moves to help Jefferson but the moment she reaches out her hand, the gate closes, leaving Jefferson trapped on the wrong side.

"Regret to inform, sir, I was a bit slow. Not so fast, these days."

"I can't open 8.1, John. Not without losing air for the others." Zach told him.

"And quite right too, sir. I think I bought them a little time." The four reach the end of the tunnel as they listen to Zach and Jefferson's conversation.

"There's nothing I can do, John. I'm sorry." Zach said softly.

"You've done enough, sir. Made a very good captain under the circumstances." Jessa looks over to Rose and finds her close to tears. "I ask, if you can't add oxygen to this section, can you speed up the process of its removal?"

"I don't understand. What do you mean?"

"Well, if I might chose the manner of my departure, sir. Lack of air seems more natural than, well, let's say death by Ood. I'd appreciate it, sir!" Jefferson's voice rises in pitch.

"Godspeed, Mr. Jefferson." Zach replied after a moment.

"Thank you, sir."

"Report, Officer John Maynard Jefferson PKD, deceased with honours." Zach said, his voice tight as he fights back his tears. Jessa and the others sat there in silence. "43K2.1."

"Zach, we're at the final junction. 9.2. And er, if my respects could be on record. He saved our lives." Danny told Zach.

"Noted. Opening 9.2." The gate opens revealing a group of Ood right behind it, waiting for them. The four scramble away, shocked.

"Lower 9.2. Zach, lower it!" Rose shouted.

"Back! Back! Back!" Danny pushed at Toby and Jessa.

"We can't go back! The gang point's sealed off, we're stuck!" Jessa looked around the tunnel before looking up and notices the grilling above their heads.

"Come on!" She pushes it out of the way. Jessa lifts herself up and emerges through the floor of the corridor above. She reaches down and pulls her sister through than Danny. The Ood were beginning to crawl towards Toby. "Come on, Toby! Give me your hand!"

"Help me!" Toby scrambled towards her outstretched hand. "Oh, my God, help me!" Rose and Jessa hoist him up through the hole as more Ood approach them from one end of the corridor.

"It's this way." Danny starts running in the opposite direction. The other three were quick to follow after him.

"Hurry up!" Came Zach's voice through the comms. The group burst through the doors into Ood Habitation and rushed over to the computer. The Ood that were still inside the room looked up at their arrival.

"Get it in!" Rose told Danny, hurriedly.

"Danny, get down."

"Transmit!" Jessa rolled her eyes as the other two pressure Danny into working faster.

"I'm trying, I'm trying! I'm getting at it!" He shouted at them.

"Stop them!" The Ood were making their way up the stairs towards them. Jessa glances over to Danny.

"Danny, now would be a great time to get that thing transmitting!" Danny plugs it into the computer. The reading goes down to Basic 0. The Ood clutch at their head and stumble about before finally collapsing to the floor. Silence rings out through the whole base.

"You did it! We did it!" Rose cheered, smiling.

"Yes!" Rose laughs in delight with Danny joining in with her. She throws her arms around him then hugs Toby, who grins. Jessa rushes over to the computer and grabs the comm.

"Zach, we did it. The Ood are down. Now we've got to get the Doctor and Ida." She reminded him.

"I'm on my way." She races out of Ood Habitation, heading back to the exploration deck. The others soon join her as she picks the comm up.

"Doctor? Are you there?" She waited for a moment. "Doctor? Ida? Can you hear me?"

"The comms are still down. I can patch them through the central desk and boost the signal. Just give me a minute." Zach starts to work on the computer while Jessa looks on, anxious. "All right, there. That should do it." Jessa moves back to the computer.

"Doctor? Are you there? Doctor, please answer me." She bites her lip as no one answers. "Ida, Doctor, are you there?"

"He's gone." Came Ida's voice suddenly but her reply made ice rush through Jessa's veins.

"What do you mean?" She asked her.

"He fell. Into the pit. And I don't know who deep it is. Miles and miles and miles."

"But," Her voice breaks, "What do you mean 'he fell'?"

"I couldn't stop him. He said your name." Ida said quietly. Zach gently tugs the comm away from Jessa. She was staring straight ahead, silent.

"I'm sorry." She doesn't respond to him. "Ida? There's no way of reaching you. No cable, no back-up. You're ten miles down. We can't get there."

"You should see this place, Zach. It's beautiful. Well, I wanted to discover things and here I am."

"We've got to abandon the base." He told her. "I'm declaring this mission unsafe. All we can do is make sure no one ever comes here again."

"But we'll never find out what it was." Ida replied.

"Well, maybe that's best." Zach answered back, softly.

"Yeah." There was a pause between the two.

"Officer Scott,"

"It's all right. Just go. Good luck." Ida said.

"Thank you." Zach replaces the comm back then turned to the boys. "Danny, Toby, close down the feed links. Get the retrotopes online. THen get to the rocket, strap yourselves in. We're leaving." Rose turns to him, Jessa was still silent and staring off into the distance.

"I'm not going." Rose told Zach. "We're not going." She motions to Jessa.

"Rose, there's space for both you and your sister." Zach replied, reassuringly.

"No, we're gonna wait for the Doctor. Just like he waited for us." She said, quietly.

"I'm sorry, but he's dead." Jessa finally looks over to her sister, her face blank of her emotions as she listens to the two.

"You don't know him. 'Cos he's not," Rose's voice breaks with repressed tears. "I'm telling you, he's not and even if he was, how could I leave him? All on his own, all the way down there? No. I'm gonna stay." Zach looks over to Jessa imploringly, she gives him a tight nod.

"Then I apologise for this. Danny, Toby, make her secure." Danny and Toby come up on either side of Rose and take an arm each while Jessa watches on.

"No! No! No! Let me go!" She struggles to get the boys off her. "Get off me! I'm not leaving!" Zach plunges a needle into her arm, sedating her. "No." Rose went limp in a matter of moments.

"I have lost too many people. I am not leaving you behind." Zach told her unconscious form, determinedly before hoisting her over his shoulder. "Let's get her on board." As Zach walks pass Jessa, he places a hand on her shoulder and gives it a squeeze then continues to walk on. Jessa waits for the others to go by her before following after them. As she reaches the door she glances back towards the window and stares at for a moment, one tear rolling down her check then walks out of the room. Everyone takes a seat on the rocket as Zach got the rocket ready for launch.

"Dislocating B-Clamp, C-Clamp, raising blue nitrates to maximum. Toby, how's the negapact feed line?"

"Clear! Ready to go, sir. For God's sakes, get us out of here!" Jessa looks over as Rose begins to stir in her seat in-between her and Danny.

"Captain," Danny calls to Zach, also noticing Rose's stirring. "I think we're gonna have a problem passenger."

"Keep an eye on her." Zach ordered.

"Wait. . . I'm not. . ."

"It's all right, Rose, you're safe."

"I'm not going anywhere!" She tugs at her seatbelt, shouting at the others. "Get me out of this thing! Get me out!"

"And lift-off!" The three men whoop and cheer as the rockets lifts off. Jessa squeezes her eyes shut and blocks out their cheering as she holds back her tears. Her eyes snap open when she felt someone lean over her and grab something.

"Rose!" She exclaims as Rose points a bolt gun at Zach.

"Take me back to the planet." Zach doesn't reply or even turn around. "Take me back!"

"Or what?" He asked.

"Or I'll shoot." She told him. He finally turns around to her.

"Would you, though? Would you really? Is that what your Doctor would want?" Rose holds his gaze for a moment before slumping back in defeat. Jessa quickly snatches the gun away from her. "Sorry, but it's too late anyway. Take a look outside. We can't turn back. This is what the Doctor would have wanted." Both Tyler sisters look out the window.

"Isn't that right?" They stay quiet as the rocket speeds them away from the black hole. Suddenly, Toby starts to laugh quietly to himself, gaining Jessa's attention.

"What's the joke?" Danny asked him.

"Just we made it. We escaped. We actually did it." No one shares his mirth.

"Not all of us." Jessa whispered.

"We're not out of it yet. We're still the first people in history to fly away from a black hole. Toby, read me the stats."

"Gravity funnel holding, sir. Always holding." Toby told Zach, still smirking. "Stats. at fifty-three, funnel status at sixty-six. five. Hull pressure constant. Smooth as we can, sir. All the way back home. Coordinates set for Planet Earth." Jessa continues to watch Toby before finally speaking her thoughts.

"It doesn't make much sense, does it? We escaped, but there was a thousand ways it could've killed us. It could of done anything but it let us go. Why? Unless it wanted us to escape." The other's went quiet as they let what she said sink in.

"Hey, Jessa, does a favour. Shut up." Toby snapped at her, nastily. Jessa narrowed her eyes at him, knowing exactly who was speaking to her and it wasn't Toby. "Almost there. We'll be beyond the reach of the black hole in forty, thirty-nine. . ." The rocket suddenly begins to shake violently.

"What happened? What was that?!" Danny exclaimed in a panic.

"What's he doing? What is he doing?" Toby suddenly questioned much to everyone's confusion.

"We've lost the funnel! Gravity collapse!" Zach reported.

"What does that mean?" Jessa asked him as she took Rose's hand in her's.

"We can't escape. We're headed straight for the black hole!" Jessa glances out the window to see the planet move towards the black hole. She looks back towards the cockpit and reels back in shock to find Toby glaring at her with red eyes, black symbols cover his skin.

"I am the rage,"

"It's Toby, Zach, do something." She said hurriedly.

"And the bile and the ferocity."

"Just do something!" She shouted.

"I am the Prince and the Fall and the Darkness,"

"It's him! It's him! It's him!" Danny cried.

"Stay where you are, the ship's not stable!" Toby expels a burst of flame from his mouth. "What is he?! What the hell is he?!"

"I shall never die! The thought of me is forever! In the bleeding hearts of men, in their vanity and obsession and lust," Jessa looks down at the bolt gun in her hand then back up to what was once Toby. "Nothing shall ever destroy me. Nothing." She points the gun at the front window.

"Go to hell." She told him, darkly then fires the gun causing it to shatter the glass. Jessa undoes Toby's seatbelt and he's sucked through the window and into outer space, heading straight for the black hole.

"Emergency shield!" Zach presses a button and the emergency shield activates, covering up the gaping hole. The rocket continues to shake and shudder, heading towards the black hole. "We've still lost the gravity funnel. We can't escape the black hole!"

"But we stopped him," Jessa replied, slightly out of breath. "That's what the Doctor would've done."

"Some victory. We're going in." He mutters.

"The planet's lost orbit! It's falling!" Danny reported, terrified. He looks back to the computer. "The planet's gone." He looks over to the girls when they say nothing. "I'm sorry."

"Accelerate. I did my best. But hey, first Human Beings to fall inside a black hole. How about that? History." Jessa closes her eyes as Rose holds tight to her arm, her head pressed into her shoulder. They were ready for the impact, eyes screwed shut, when everything stops and silence falls.

"What happened?" Jessa asked, opening her eyes and leaned forward. They all suddenly lean to one side as the rocket turns.

"We're turning." Zach said confused then looks at the screen. "We're turning around. We're turning away!"

"Sorry about the hijack, Captain." The Doctor's voice came through the comms. "This is the good ship Tardis." Jessa and Rose's mouth drop open. "Now, first thing's first, have you got a Jessa and Rose Tyler on board?"

"We're here! It's us! Oh, my God!" Rose answered quickly, overjoyed. She laughs and shakes Jessa's arm, giddy with relief and happiness. Jessa on the other hand, felt slightly numb and annoyed. "Where are you?"

"I'm just towing you home. Gravity-schmavity. My people practically invented black holes." The Doctor replied. "Well, in fact, they did. In a couple of minutes, we'll be nice and safe. Oh, and captain, can we do a swap? Say if you give me Jessa and Rose Tyler, I'll give you Ida Scott? How about that?"

"She's alive!" Zach said, delighted.

"Yes! Thank god!" Danny cheered.

"Yeah! Bit of oxygen starvation, but she should be all right. I couldn't save the Ood. I only had time for one trip. They went down with the planet. Ah! Entering clear space, end of the line, mission closed." Rose and Jessa undo their seatbelts and race towards the hull. Rose reaches the Tardis first and flings the doors open as they enter. The Doctor looks over to them and smiles. The Doctor gathers Rose up into his arms giving her a tight squeeze before turning to Jessa, who had her arms crossed over her chest and was holding back her tears, trying to give him a stern look.

"I'm so angry with you right now." She told him. He gives her a soft smile.

"I know," He replied then holds his arms out for her. Jessa let out a quiet sob before racing into his arms. The Doctor lifts her clean off the floor, holding her tight to him. "I'm so sorry."

"We'll talk about it later," She whispered as she pressed her face into the cranny of his neck and shoulder. The two stood there for a good ten minutes, just holding each other before finally, letting go and walked over to the console.

"Zach? We'll be off, now. Have a good trip home." The Doctor messes with a few of the buttons on the console as Jessa stands next to him. He wraps his arm around her waist, needing the physical contact. "And the next time you get curious about something, oh, what's the point? You'll just go blundering in. The human race."

"But Doctor, what did you find down there? That creature, what was it?" Ida asked.

"I don't know! Never did decipher that writing. But that's good! Day I know everything? Might as well stop." He answered.

"What do you think it was? Really?" Rose inquired.

"I think we beat it. That's good enough for me." He said.

"It said I was gonna die in battle." The Doctor catches her eye.

"Then it lied." He told her with quiet confidence. Jessa reaches over and squeezes her hand. Rose smiled at the two, reassured. "Right, onwards, upwards. Ida, see you again, maybe!"

"I hope so."

"And thanks, boys!" Rose called to Danny and Zach.

"Hang on though, Doctor. You never really said, you three, who are you?"

"Oh," The Doctor looks to Jessa than Rose, "The stuff of legend." He pulls a lever and the three watch the rotor rise and fall with smiles on their faces.
