Articuno and she flew over the ocean. He had agreed to take her to a faraway land he knew. They flew high above the fluffy white clouds, an altitude which would freeze a human solid. But the Ice-type bird and she were just as comfortable up here as they would be down on the ground.
They would follow her, she knew they would. She had stolen the item they needed t control her and they would want it back.
She checked once more that her bag was still slung over her shoulder, fastened tight shut. She couldn't afford to lose it now. Not when she was so close to freedom.
Her friends had stayed back in Kanto, they were in no danger there - they were only prototypes after all - the scientists were glad to be rid of them. It was only her they would hunt down. But it would take them a long time to find her here, so far from her home region.
She knew she could not return there. She could never go to the island she had always known as home. Not when it was now inhabited by twisted scientists who were after her to use her as a slave.
No, she needed to find a new home, one where she could live and be free, free like the wind. She closed her eyes, feeling the icy breeze whip her hair around her face. Perhaps she had chosen a conspicuous disguise. Her dark red locks flowed out behind her as they flew, her beautiful face framed by scruffy bangs. Once she opened them again, here deep purple eyes were the icing on the cake, making her both a unique and unusual beauty.
"Are we nearly there my friend, you seem to be tiring." She patted the Pokémon's back.
"We shall arrive soon, before the sun rises." His deep voice echoed in the night sky.
The navy skyline was decorated with twinkling stars, shining innocently, illuminating the travelling pair. The perfect icy-blue plumage of the legendary bird glowed with the starlight as he glided swiftly underneath the blanket of stars.
She lay on her back, resting against his, setting her bag on her lap as she watched the stars fly by, trying to spot constellations or pictures in the sky, failing at this quite spectacularly. To her defence, they were flying by or being interrupted by wisps of clouds.
The night was silent, in the distance was the sound of rushing water, but up in the sky, only the whispers of the wind could be heard. It was rather eerie she thought. She'd escaped from a noisy human laboratory rather recently; the noises of the outside world had consumed her from then on. Running, constantly running from what? Mere humans! A little voice in her mind reminded her that these humans were smart, they had built technologies to entrap her and force her to do they're will. It was only because of a scientist who had helped her get free that she was now here.
A twinge of sadness ran through her as she thought of the kind young scientist. He had pitied her, getting her free and giving her the only object which had the power to entrap her. The others had seen on the CCTV footage, they'd killed him on the spot. After that, she had tampered with the technology around her, deleting all the data they had on her and damaging it so severely that it exploded, creating a large enough exit for her and her friends to escape out of.
"Thank you so much for this. I'd have never made it all this way without you." She watched his wings beating against the air in a special rhythm which both propelled him forward and kept him aloft.
"If I hadn't agreed to bring you, Zapdos or Moltres would have. We all are loyal to you." She felt them begin to head downwards; it seemed they had finally reached their desired destination. She rolled back onto her front, kneeling on his back, staring forwards at the land far, far below them. It sat snugly in the waters which surrounded it, many islands to its eastern section. Could this be her new home?
"Tell me, what is this place called?" She asked, her sharp eyes observing and memorizing every inch of the landscape, locating major cities and learning about the people who lived here simply by looking at the land.
"The people know it as Hoenn." His answer was simple; she logged the name into her mind, nodding as she processed it.
She sensed something new, a Pokémon, very close by, approaching at great speed. "Duck!" She called as a great emerald Ekans-like Pokémon swooped at them, screeching its call at them. She deducted that it was protecting its territory. "Fly as fast as you can, I'll try talk to it!" She stared into the golden pupils of this great Pokémon, feeling the rage in its mind. "Please calm yourself, we mean you no harm. We are merely seeking safe passage to the region below."
"I am vowed to protecting this place. I shall not allow something alien like you to endanger those below." He opened his mouth, a pulsating energy filling it and bursting towards Articuno and her. She could think of no better way to protect her friend.
"Articuno, go home," She yelled as she threw herself towards the pulsing blue-purple energy. The Dragon Pulse collided with her square in the chest, suspending her in the air for a few moments before the stream ceased and she fell to the Earth, limp as a ragdoll.
The place where his attack had struck had numbed faster than she had anticipated, her body had ceased up, preventing her from doing anything to slow or steady her fall. She could do nothing but watch as the stars raced away from her and feel the wind batter her around carelessly.
It took a long while for her body to fall to the ground, finally she crashed into solid water, the impact would cause a human body to fall apart at the seams, but hers held fast, her energy pouring into her entity in order to prevent the bones from shattering and her organs rupturing. She felt the solid sand crash into her back - she'd fallen in shallow water - she must be near a coast.
Focussing on moving her limbs once more, she sent her energy pulsing through her chest, revitalising the nerves there, awakening them from the numbness the attack had caused. That Pokémon was stronger than anything she'd ever known. Was he a local legend like Articuno was for Kanto? She made a mental note of the creature and reminder to seek out information about him.
Her body responded once again, allowing her to push off from the sands and break the surface of the water, she was indeed near an island, one of the smaller islands which sat off the mainland of this region. She could see a city perched upon it, a giant rocket dominating the nearby skyline. It indeed looked like these people were just as eager to learn everything they could, just like the scientists back in Kanto. Her mind pinpointed exactly where she was in the overhead map she'd saved into her mind.
"I wonder what kind of place this is." She murmured as she swam ashore. Feeling the weight of her bag as she stepped onto the sand, she looked towards the city, it stood upon a small cliff - which presumably protected them from high tides - the entire beach here was covered with a thin layer of water. Every step she took made an uncomfortably loud splashing noise.
She saw a light flicker on in the window of a house just ahead of her. Perhaps someone had seen her rather dramatic entrance. Her eyes zeroed in on the house in question - its walls were covered in seawater - which was evident on the window, as the droplets had coated the glass surface. Her entrance must have displaced a large amount of water, causing a large wave t splash against this side of the city, hence the sheer volume of water on the beach.
A face was now at the window, its features distorted by the water clinging to the glass, good. That meant that her features were also distorted and this person could not see her exact facial features. She needed to flee, flee now before too many suspicions were aroused. The face vanished, a door opening on the other side of the house.
"Hello?" A male voice called, she assumed it belonged to a young adult, perhaps early twenties. It seemed friendly enough, but with humans you never can tell. "Is there someone there? Are you hurt?" Running footsteps, approaching the top of the five-foot drop onto the beach alerted her and reminded her to move and quickly.
She ran quickly, hiding behind a large rock just off the shore of the beach, allowing the water to consume most of her body, just leaving her head poking up, so that she may watch the human approaching.
He slowed before the drop, looking around for the figure he had just seen on the beach. He then crouched on the edge, dropping softly into the shallow water, examining the sopping grass above and the soggy sand below, putting that together with the water which left his house drenched and caused him to wake; he assumed that a large tidal wave had just hit his home city. But what had caused this was unknown. Upon looking out his window he had seen something there, it had looked like a woman, although the water was distorting the figure.
He hummed to himself in thought, but then spotting an item on the sand; he stooped down and plucked it from the ground, holding it up so it would catch the light streaming from his window.
Her eyes narrowed as she focussed on the item he held. Her breath caught when she recognised it as the item which should have been tucked into her bag, safe and sound. She checked said bag, a gash had torn it apart, the seam of the shoulder-strap bag had parted, probably on impact with the water, and the item which had been inside had drifted away on the displaced water.
She cursed internally, seeking to memorise the face of the human which now possessed that item, but he had turned away, the night obscuring his features. At least she knew where he lived all hope was not lost. He walked away, walking down the beach towards distant stairs instead of clambering up the drop.
She sank into the ocean, knowing she needed to get that item back before anyone learned how to use it.
