This is a The Flower Shop Winter in Fairbrook fan fiction.
Smiling contently I reflected back on my day. I was on my second year of college in Los Angeles, right after winter break. Today, I went with Clara to bowl. Ah, that was fun. Maybe it would be better if it wasn't so late though… I felt a bit self conscious now, I should've accepted Clara's invitation for us to drive together but I didn't because I had errands to do. Ugh! I should have just done them tomorrow! It being absolutely freezing today didn't help. I bet it's even colder now that it's night. The heater on my car was on full blast, not to mention I still had my regular winter gear. I was brought out of my thoughts by someone walking on the sidewalk in the distance. They're nuts. But when I got closer, I recognized this person! It was Jacob! His teeth were chattering and he was shivering, as he walked dragging his bike behind him. Reaching him, I slammed the breaks. Okay, maybe that was a bit much, but I was shocked okay? What the heck is he doing here? It's dangerous to walk around alone at night! Not to mention freezing! He's supposed to be in Fairbrook... Jacob's face filled with shock and I think fear too. Putting the car in park, I rushed out and walked over to Jacob who was still the same.
"O-o-oh i-it's y-y-you Na-Natalie…" Jacob relieved. He is so going to get it!
"What the heck are you doing out here?! And you're freezing! Never mind, tell me later. I'm giving you a ride, and don't you dare say it's too much trouble! It won't work!" I demanded. I know him, he'd resist saying 'I don't want to burden you' so I had to make it clear. Jacob nodded.
"Just get in. I'll put your bike in the back." I said firmly, again showing him it was not up for debate. Jacob looked a bit uncertain but went into the passenger's seat while I hauled his bike into the back and picked up some heavy blankets. Returning to the driver's seat, I threw the blankets to him which he accepted. Spreading them around himself, Jacob's face was completely apologetic but his teeth were still chattering and he was still shivering. After I had started driving and Jacob was less freezing, I spoke up.
"Okay, tell me everything." I said.
"Are you sure you want to hear about my problems?"
"We're been over this Jacob."
"My family decided to move here since there aren't many colleges near Fairbrook. I'm going to be going to college, so there's no one left who's in anything less. Also, my father got a good job opportunity here. But my family all went on a trip for a week. I really didn't want to go and I wanted some peace and quiet so they said I could stay here. Well, they of course asked if I'd be okay first. The problem is they took all the cars for the trip. I was supposed to take the bus but I was too late so I rented a bike."
"Why weren't you riding it?"
"The gears froze."
"Oh. But what were you going to so late?" Jacob shuffles nervously, his face a bit red; maybe I should just drop it.
"I was buying seeds that Susana uses and sending them to her. But I took too long."
"Huh? Why are you so nervous about that?" Jacob blush increases.
"I-it's not that… It's just that… Uh…," more shuffling happens as his blush increases.
"What?"
"I-I've never been in a girl's car. Let alone get a ride in it…" Oh, I should've known. He is like that.
"Just like I said about the room, it's just a car. And it's not like we don't know each other. Try to ease up a bit." Jacob blush disappears as he smiles politely.
"Thank you for giving me a ride."
"You know I could give you a ride anytime you need it."
"I-I could never ask that of you!"
"You're not. I'm asking." Jacob looks nervous again, maybe I should've kept my mouth shut but c'mon! It's freezing out here! And a bus for Jacob? That must be torture! He's from Fairbrook, a small town, and he's shy! Not to mention, he likes quiet. Maybe I should bring these things up.
"Look. I know you must really hate buses but you keep your mouth shut, you deal like you always do. But c'mon! It must be awful for you! Let me drive you around, it'd be quiet." Jacob shifted his feet around and cast his glaze down.
Lifting one eye to look in my direction, he said in a quiet voice, "Are you sure you don't mind?"
"Of course not! I'm practically begging here!" Jacob smiles like a huge disturbance was removed.
"Thank you Natalie."
"Um, are you enrolled in school yet?" Jacob nods.
"Yes, at (it was never mentioned in the game)."
"Oh! That's the school I go to! I'll just pick you up on the way, it'd be easy! Oh, I think we're at your house now." I drove into the driveway, we said our goodbyes and negotiated a time for me to pick him up and I left.
