I do not own GMW... sad I know
Hey so this if my first GMW fanfic. The idea for this story wouldn't leave my head so I had to write it down. Please review if you like. I might change the rating later on in the story
Summary: Riley Matthews has always been the nice, quiet girl who doesn't like the spotlight. But what happens when Maya hears she singing in her room one day and Maya talks Riley into signing up for the talent show? Will Riley be able to go through with it? Will Riley finally learn what it means to stand up for yourself and to do what you love no matter what others think of you? Please review
Riley Matthews woke up and the day was beautiful, even though it was raining.
She looked at her clock that was next to her bed.
6:45 am
She had slept in but she didn't care. She had been dreaming about Lucas Frair, one of her friends and the boy she had a crush on since the day she first saw him on the subway. Her best friend Maya Hart would be here any minute, so she'd have to hurry, and when she had to hurry she would sing. She liked to sing to herself but no one, not even Maya had heard her sing. Riley had a confidence problem, almost everyone knew this, but when it came to singing it was different. She also had a little bit of stage fright She liked to sing, no not liked, she loved to sing and she was good at it to. But she didn't tell anyone, cause what if she wasn't as good as she thought.
She picked out a cute outfit: a green-blue long sleeve shirt that had a little pink ruffle attached on the bottom of the shirt, blue jeans, and a cute pair of boots that her mom got her.
She grabbed her phone and went to her playlist. And she started to sing as she got dressed, little to her knowledge that she had an audience behind her door.
Maya's PoV
I get to the Matthew's apartment building at 6:45. Usually if I get there early I'd wait outside but since it was raining, I decided to go. I pressed the button.
"Maya"
I expected it to be Riley who'd answer but it was Ms. Matthews.
"Come on up Maya."
I practically flew up the stairs. When I get to their door, I opened it, walked in and stand there. I loved coming over to Rileys. It is a place that I felt wanted and cared for. Not that i don't wanted and cared for at home, mom is usually gone to work by the time I get up and either is still at work or is already asleep when I get home. Here someone was always around.
"Hey goof-balls" I said caringly.
"Hi Maya" said Auggie, Rileys little 5 year old brother. "Riley's not ready yet. She slept in. Sit by me."
I smile at the boy.
"Okay."
Ms. Matthews turned around from the stove with a bowl of something that resembled oatmeal.
"Maya, breakfast."
"No thanks, Ms. Matthews."
"Maya, honey, we've been over this. I wasn't asking" Topanga said with a smile as she put the bowl in front of me. I just smiled and start eating. Today the oatmeal was really good so it was gone in a matter of seconds.
"Thank you" I said as I pushed the bowl away.
Topanga smiled back. I looked at the clock.
6:50am
"I'll go and check on Riles." I get up and headed to me best friends room. As I turned the corner to her room, I heard Riley inside. At first I thought Riley was talking to herself, her door was closed, which meant that she was probably changing, so I couldn't really tell. But the closer I get, the more it didn't sound like talking but singing.
Riley was singing. I couldn't believe her ears. Riley was singing and she sounded good.
Riley's PoV
"2 AM and she calls me 'cause I'm still awake,
"Can you help me unravel my latest mistake?,
I don't love him. Winter just wasn't my season"
Yeah we walk through the doors, so accusing their eyes
Like they have any right at all to criticize,
Hypocrites. You're all here for the very same reason
'Cause you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable
And life's like an hourglass, glued to the table
No one can find the rewind button, girl.
So cradle your head in your hands
And breathe... just breathe,
Oh breathe, just breathe
May he turned 21 on the base at Fort Bliss
"Just a day" he said down to the flask in his fist,
"Ain't been sober, since maybe October of last year."
Here in town you can tell he's been down for a while,
But, my God, it's so beautiful when the boy smiles,
Wanna hold him. Maybe I'll just sing about it.
Cause you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable,
And life's like an hourglass, glued to the table.
No one can find the rewind button, boys,
So cradle your head in your hands,
And breathe... just breathe,
Oh breathe, just breathe
There's a light at each end of this tunnel,
You shout 'cause you're just as far in as you'll ever be out
And these mistakes you've made, you'll just make them again
If you'd only try turning around.
2 AM and I'm still awake, writing a song
If I get it all down on paper, it's no longer inside of me,
Threatening the life it belongs to
And I feel like I'm naked in front of the crowd
Cause these words are my diary, screaming out loud
And I know that you'll use them, however you want to
But you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable,
And life's like an hourglass, glued to the table
No one can find the rewind button now
Sing it if you understand.
and breathe, just breathe
woah breathe, just breathe,
Oh breathe, just breathe,
Oh breathe, just breathe."
I grab my backpack as I finish and turn towards the door as it starts to open. My heart starts to race. Did someone just hear me sing.
What is Maya going to say and how will Riley react? I'll post more soon. But in the mean time, REVIEW. There is a lot more to the story.
The song Riley was singing was Breathe (2AM) by Anna Nalick
