Hour of Judgment
I own nothing but my own Ideas
Lucina's Judgment is a powerful scene. It hits even harder when you are related. What is it like through the perspective of her mother?
I decided to try it. The name will be, as usual, Robin. The dialogue is a tad A.U
Robin looked at her daughter in a stake of shock. She hadn't seen this coming, although in hindsight it made a lot of sense. Lucina had come back in to save Chrom, after all. At the cost of everything else.
Including her mother.
It was a sediment she could respect, and agree with to an extent. Chrom was an important leader, and her husband. He was also a descendant of Naga. Losing him would mean losing the way to defeat Grima, as well as the land and people in it. It was the future her daughter fought to avoid.
She had some idea of how it would happen, a dream that would stay a dream this time.
She would admit that killing her before she became a liability made sense on the surface, but there were other factors at play here.
Tharja had once told her that she was the perfect Grima vassal, but there were others who could still take her place. Less perfect vassals. People related to her by blood. People with dragon in their blood.
People like Lucina and Morgan.
Lucina and Morgan have the blood of both dragons in their veins. It means, that she could be claimed by either dragon, if Robin was gone. Tharja had insisted that Robin was the primary vassal, and the one Grima would use first, but someone with such strong ties to divine dragons, would be a good body in a pinch. If Lucina believed that killing her mother would make a better future, what could Grima convince her to do for it, if he got a hold on her mind?
Despite sharing many traits with her father, Lucina was probably more vulnerable to Grima than Morgan would ever be. Lucina was the organizer of operations. The leader. Powerful woman ran in the family, it seemed. Neither of them were content to delegate for a job they wanted done right, and could be quite stubborn about their plans.
Chrom and Morgan had an unshakable faith in themselves and others. They were the heart, and intention, and good leaders and speechmakers. Inspiring. Robin believed people could take care of themselves, but also that they needed someone coordinating it to keep all of their goals intact. She was a coordinator, a tactician. And she saw the same potential in Lucina, It was how Lucina had managed to get everyone back in time, after all.
They both lead as they did, because they cared about their friends, and wanted to keep them safe. Making quick decisions was often a valuable part of leadership, Robin had learned very early on. However it was equally important to consider the ramifications. After all, rescuing someone was all well and good, but sending a Pegasus Knight to rescue someone from archers was suicide.
In Lucina's case, the idea of killing the current Grima vassal seemed like a good plan, but Lucina had not thought it through, had not considered who the next Grima vassal would be, and that was dangerous. Its much easier to defeat the enemy you know, for they have familiar tactics.
Who would be at risk of possession next. Even if her kids could shake off possession here, what about Baby Lucina back in the capitol? Could she be subject to possession?
And Morgan had not even been born yet. What would happen to the Morgan here, if she had been dead, and unable to conceive him? Would he vanish from existence?
It was a terrifying thought to consider.
She could understand Lucina committing Matricide for the sake of the world, but Fratricide too? To sacrifice her unborn brother? An innocent.
Or had her daughter even considered Morgan in her plan?
The second she had Morgan she was going to work on building overprotective sibling instincts in her daughter. And a better family bond in general. Dysfunctional apparently passed on dysfunctional parenting skills to their kids, if this conversation was any indication.
She was the worst mother ever.
"I love him as much as you do Lucina." She replied, at last. "But you ask too much."
"Perhaps I do…" Lucina replied calmly.
She relaxed, and then Lucina spoke again. "Then draw your blade, and we will let combat pass final jugement."
Oh Gods no! This couldn't be happening.
"Lucina." She tried, "I cant do that to you. And I cant let you do that to anyone else either."
Lucina looked hesitant, so she continued.
'I cant let you live with my Death, Lucina. Have you given any thought as to how it will affect the new future? Are you willing to make yourself motherless, and your father a widow? And Morgan hasn't even been born yet. What would happen to him?"
"Mother…" Lucina pleaded. "He's going to DIE! Something must be done!" She cried out, tears streaming down her face.
"Lucina we are a family." Robin whispered. " And you only get one of those. I wont let you throw it away! We are going to stay together and we are going to survive!"
"That's all I want!" Lucina began to sob uncontrollably. "Bu-t-" She hiccupped, in trying to start an argument, "b-but."
Robin wanted nothing more tan to run oveer and hold hug her. To her in her arms, and whisper nonsense to her, like she did with baby Lucina. Future or not, this was her baby girl.
"Lucina?" Robin asked tentatively."
"Ah Gods! I cant do it!" Lucina cried out, lowering her sword. "I'm sorry mother. I'm so, sorry. Please forgive me."
"My poor girl." Robin murmured, coming over to hug her. "Lucina…" She cooed, as the girl sobbed into her robes.
Her daughters reasons were all to easy to understand. There was fear- of the bad future, and of war-torn children, and ruin- and there was desperation- a desperation to save, and prevent- a need- the need to be loved, and to grow up safe- and vision to make that happen. But there was no foresight or long term planning.
If she had been possessed by Grima, her daughter wouldn't have stood a chance. She had been willing to risk herself, her brother, her happiness, and her future, for her father. All of her family, for exactly what she had been trying to save.
It was reckless. She had gone into the past, and risked everyone she knew, to change the future. She could have risked a kid born at a different time, or worse. She cold have killed someone's parents as Marth dueling them in the tournament. What would happen to a kid, if a parent died before they were born? Would they poof out of existence? Would they have never been born?
It was a terrifying thought.
Sacrifices were a part of battle, even when your side won. She would never be able to forget a Mire, filled with Plegan soldiers who did not want to fight. That battle had been no victory.
Should she teach Lucina tatics? She had been planning to, Lucina was showing potential to be talented at it. But now she wondered at just how smart of an idea it would be, to place other peoples lives in her daughters hands, especially with this mindset?
There was a desperateness in Lucina that scared her. The way she talked, she seemed to be willing to sacrifice anything for her victory, no matter what it cost her. Good commanders learned to retreat and think, ut Lucina seemed to be throwing everything she had into trying to stop her problem.
A problem that was admittedly, all her fault. She had been the one to make the world a land of no hope. She didn't intend to let it happen like that this time, but…
What if she was making a mistake? What if she was just as blind and biased to the flaws in her plan as Lucina was?
"Oh my baby girl." She whispered, and started to cry.
I think, that if Lucina is the daughter of Robin the Avatar, and Chrom , she is going to be an attractive choice for either dragon, and Morgan to. Probably the only equal would be a Robin and Tiki/Nowi Morgan/Nah. What dragon they get, depends on their actions. I have not yet seen something where Lucina having fellblood was used, despite the popular Chrom/ Robin paring. Actually, that might make a cool AU, Lucina (your daughter) the antagonist.
I view Morgan as an overprotective little brother.
If there is anything I hate about this scene, is that it doesn't incorporate Morgan if you have him. I mean, it created 3 scenes that varry depending on your relationship with Lucina, but completely ignores her brother (or one of her siblings being married to Robin) (Or Lucina being unrelated and Married to Morgan), strikes me as odd. What is Morgan in this, chopped liver?
Sorry if I went a little overboard.
please drop a line, and leave a review. That would be very awesome of you.
