Prologue

Let It Be

Sarah discovered that she had a talent when asked to sing at her cousin's wedding.

She and her stepmother and father, not to mention little Toby, had flown to Miami where the wedding would take place between her cousin Geoffrey and his fiancée, Rosamund. Irene had made a point that she thought of Rosamund as a beautiful woman with a haughty personality. Sarah had added to the subject by noting that she thought of Rosamund as an uptight bitch.

When they'd arrived at the wedding, which was taking place on one of Miami's rocky beaches, Rosamund hadn't arrived yet. Geoff was talking nervously on his cell phone, and as Sarah approached him she caught snatches of his conversation like, "Not enough chairs."

"Where's your bride-to-be?" Sarah asked, giving her cousin a big hug while at the same time trying not to wrinkle his pure white tux.

"On her way," said Geoff, looking nervous. Sarah raised her eyebrows and said, "Okay, what went wrong?"

"Well our wedding singer just cancelled on us," her cousin replied. "Something about his wife being in labour. Sarah, could you do me a favour?"

Sarah narrowed her eyes. "It depends what it is, Mister Almost-A-Husband."

"Well, you were always in musicals and in the choir when we were in elementary school together," Geoff started hesitantly. Sarah's mouth dropped open.

"You want me to sing for your wedding?" she gaped. "Gosh, I don't know…"

"Please? Everybody from the band is here… well except the singer of course. Plus I know how good you are," Geoff added.

Sarah shrugged and mumbled, "Fine. But don't ask me to be the flower girl too."

Geoff gave her a hug just as Rosamund's limousine pulled up in the parking lot. Sarah's father Robert bustled off to get her, as he would be the one to give her away. The band started 'the Wedding March' and everyone quickly seated themselves in little plastic lawn chairs just as Robert appeared with Rosamund on his arm. Sarah's upper lip curled at the sight of the bride. Her wedding dress was far too tight and far too thin, not to mention that Rosamund's breasts were about ready to pop out of the dress any second. Her tight blond curls were dusted with sparkles and the veil was diamond studded. Sarah made a noise under her breath. Geoff really did spoil his fiancée.

Hm, no wonder she's such a bitch.

"Dearly beloved…" droned the priest.

Sarah could have sworn she saw a white and beige barn owl perched atop the wedding arch.

And then the wedding was over. The moment Sarah had been dreading finally came. One of the band members waved vigorously at her for her to join them on stage. Sarah cringed and clambered onto the stage.

"I wondered why Geoff's cousin was here, but now I understand," Sarah heard Rosamund's nasally voice call out. "She's just the entertainment."

Sarah's expression turned cross, and she grabbed the microphone and said darkly, "Any requests?"

Somebody shouted out, "Let It Be, by the Beatles!"

The band members grinned at each other (while Sarah continued to look cross at Rosamund's more that palpable comment) and strummed up the intro.

Sarah opened her mouth and started the song.

"When I find myself in times of trouble, Mother Mary comes to me,

Speaking words of wisdom… let it be."

That was two years ago… and a month after Sarah had beaten a mystical Labyrinth and defeated a Goblin King.

A/N: Sorry this took so long; this account disappeared for a while for some reason and I couldn't log in. This and chapter one will be posted today. Even though I still think this story kind of sucks, since I wrote it when I was like thirteen, people were requesting it and SWD so I'll be reposting them here. Updates will be every Friday. This is the heavily edited version; the full, unedited version is on AO3 on my regular Vampiyaa account.
