Eva: I'm glad you liked the flashbacks, I did try placing them in the perfect places to add depth and understanding. You are right about the proposal thing. I don't know how long I sat in front of my computer and thought that out. I've never seen Saving Hope, though I have seen clips of Daniel Gillies in a few Elejah videos. Is he just as beautiful in it?

TheYamiNeko: I wasn't pressured to do it, I was actually questioning the idea myself.

Elena Mikaelson: Here you go, enjoy!

Guest: Sorry, Elena won't be pregnant in the epilogue, but after you read it I think you'll like it. I actually did sit down to AOF the other day, I wrote 3 sentences and got stuck. But I haven't forgotten about it.

Dreamsliveonforever: Thank you for the compliment. I don't know what I'll be writing next. I have five Elejah stories typed (aside from AOF and Delayed Realizations). Obviously none of them are completed. They're all planned to be different chapter lengths (both, all human and then something closer to the show) but I haven't seriously considered what I'd do. Although, I don't think I'll be going anywhere when it comes to Elejah, at least not for the time being.

BarbossasWench: I hope you enjoy it.

Aria: I hope this will work for you.

Happy Guest: Thank you for the compliment. I do try to do my best for them. Since the actors are now on separate shows, it's difficult when they don't interact much anymore. Thank you again for the kind words.

Author's Note: So, really long note, I apologize for rambling I'm about to go on. First of all, thank you guys so much for all your kind words and support. I do enjoy writing for this pair and while I may have written all human one shots including them, this was out of my comfort level, so I'm happy that it went over well. I'm sorry for the shortness of this chapter. Honestly, part of the reason why chapter 9 was so long was because it could have been used as the last chapter, because I did struggle with this epilogue. I think I've come to realize that epilogues just aren't my strong suit. I knew what I wanted to do, but as I sat down with pen and paper to scrawl out children's names and ages, and then typed, erased, re-typed, erased again, I decided to go for simple. So I apologize if I skipped over anyone's favorite characters, this really just mentions Elena, Elijah and their children and it only spans a couple moments in their lives.

Disclaimer: I don't own any of the characters familiar to TVD or TO.

Epilogue

"You need to behave," Elena whispered. Elijah's mouth was attached to her neck and his hand was creeping underneath the bottom of her shirt. However, she made no further move to stop him.

"But I thought you liked it when I touched you here?" He asked. His nimble fingers found their way over her breast and squeezed her nipple through her bra.

"You know I do," she breathed. "And I love it when you do-" She was unable to finish her coaxing words when they were interrupted.

"You know, if you want to do that, you could at least go to your room," thirteen year old Zachary Mikaelson observed, walking into the living room to find his parents making out on the couch.

Elijah's hand immediately dropped out from under her shirt. Elena giggled and pulled away from him. His response, was to attach his lips to her neck.

Zach rolled his eyes as he watched the pair of them. "Seriously, you two are like teenagers," he grumbled.

The words pulled his attention and Elijah frowned. "Yes, God forbid your parents love each other and like to kiss…" He grumbled back. "It could be worse, we could be like Danielle's parents," he tossed out, referring to Stefan's step daughter.

Stefan had been right when he told Elena that Lexi was nowhere near ready to begin a relationship the afternoon they were leaving the shooting range. Not only had she gone through a massive divorce, but she was given sole custody of her daughter. The emotional toll was great and it left her more cautious than ever. Stefan befriended her first and then ended up wooing her one year after that. The pair dated for one year before becoming exclusive. And of their friends, Stefan had been the last to marry. Together, they would eventually have a son and daughter.

"Okay, I think it's safe to say that you passed kissing a few minutes ago," he scrunched his nose together in disgust.

"If you don't like it, you could always go to your room," Elena observed quietly. "The last I checked, your dad and I were the ones that paid the bills around here. When you're all grown up and you have your own house, I promise we won't make out in your living room."

"Billy and Chase are coming over," he mentioned. "Please don't embarrass me."

"You say that like neither of them have ever seen their parents kiss." And she knew for a fact that her nephew, Billy, had seen Klaus and Hayley kiss more often than not.

A year after Zach had been born, Hayley gave birth to William. It really had been no surprise to anyone that the couple managed to stay together as long as they had. They fought a lot, much more than Bonnie and Damon ever had, but they made up with one another all of the time. And when baby fever finally claimed Hayley, Klaus had been powerless to deny her. She'd also given him another son, Johnathon, and a daughter, Sarah. Though the two were slightly younger and weren't invited to play with their older brother and cousin.

"Ooh, Chase will be here?" Six year old Ava asked, peeking into the room. Until then, she'd been in the next room over, playing on the computer.

Zach was quick to frown. "You aren't invited, so don't even think about it," he warned her.

His look was severe, but she returned it with equal fervor. "What if he isn't only here play with you?"

"He certainly isn't here to play with you," he argued.

Chase Saltzman, was Rick and Jenna's only child. She'd wanted more, but she didn't have an easy pregnancy. And when she'd delivered Chase, she'd hemorrhaged during delivery, the doctor told her that more children weren't a possibility. He was two years younger than Zach and the last of the children 'allowed' to play with the older kids. Matt and Caroline's children wouldn't have been exempt from the rule, but since they'd moved eight hours away, they didn't often see one another.

Crossing her arms over her chest, Ava pursed her lips as she stared at her older brother. "You can't keep me from Chase forever." From the moment she'd been old enough to interact with other children and understand them, she'd had a preoccupation with Chase. He was always on her mind, and because his daddy worked with hers, she was often able to see him.

Elena thought it was the sweetest thing ever, but Elijah didn't have such illusions. Given his age, he knew that Chase still believed in 'cooties,' and the like, he wasn't far off from puberty. Elijah was ready and was already practicing the patented protective father look.

"I'm going to marry him one day, you wait and see."

Casting a glance from under her eyelashes, she was interested to see how her husband would react to their daughter's proclamation. His mouth was slack and he appeared to be in complete shock. "Maybe we can shelve this conversation for another day, like perhaps after you have your first boyfriend."

"There won't be any boyfriends," Elijah broke in. "Boyfriends will be strictly forbidden until you go away to college," he added, fixing a pointed glare on his daughter.

Again, she gave as much as she received. Ava returned the stare with as much flare as she could muster.

Next to her husband, Elena attempted to stave off her giggles. Casually, she covered her mouth and coughed. But it was the sound of an infant crying that gathered her full attention.

"Lillian's up now, Ava," Zach said. "Why don't you play with her?"

"Lillian is a baby," she pouted.

(16 years later)

"You stay away from me, Benjamen Salvatore!" Eighteen year old Lillian exclaimed as she strode past her family and extended family without even sparing them a glance.

"Lilly, come on, you know I didn't mean it," Ben said, chasing after her.

Spinning around to face him, she noticed that he was forced to come to an immediate halt, lest he run into her. "Let me set you straight, I wouldn't even touch you if the world's population was wiped out by a plague and we were the only two left. Humanity would die with us because there is no way in hell I would ever let you get close to me!" Without another word, she spun around and continued to walk away from him.

As determined as ever, Ben continued to follow after her.

Shaking his head at the sight, Elijah turned to Stefan and offered up a glare. "Your son still after my daughter?"

Stefan shrugged as he followed the two with his eyes. "Appears to be."

When Elijah saw his wife approach, he easily stepped past his friends and met her half way. "Have I told you how lovely you look today?" He asked, reaching for her hand and placing a quick kiss on her lips.

She shook her head in negative. "No, but considering our oldest daughter is getting married today, you're forgiven."

True to the words that she'd uttered when she was six years old, Ava Mikaelson would be marrying Chase Saltzman in a matter of hours.

In the years that passed, Matt and Caroline weren't the only ones to move away. When Damon was given the opportunity to run his own restaurant, he and Bonnie packed up with their two boys and moved four hours away in the opposite direction. Reunions were few and far between. And though Elena missed her friends, she had grown very close with her sister-in-law, Hayley. She'd also managed to find good friends in both Jenn and Lexi, though they'd never take the place of her first friends.

And life was never lonely for the Mikaelson clan. They managed to see Klaus, Hayley and their brood at least twice a week. Rick and Elijah still worked for the same law firm and the two families often had dinner together, while Stefan and Lexie lived in the next housing development over.

"I just can't believe this day is here as quickly as this," Elena murmured. "It seems like only a few months ago, that our six year old daughter was proclaiming that they'd be married one day." Where had the time gone?

"At least I still have my little Lilly," he sighed. Lillian, their baby, their last born and the youngest out of all of their friends' children, was just a lovely as her mother. He loved all of his children with equal fervor and he would never dare pick out a favorite, but he couldn't deny that Lillian possessed a little extra something special. Though, maybe it had more to do with the fact that she didn't fall at Benjamen's feet… And he admitted as much to his wife.

Elena looked over her shoulder, taking notice of the fact that Lillian had stopped running from Ben and was now letting him tuck a piece of her hair back into the messy bun she'd styled for her sister's wedding. She made a point of clearing her throat. "You were saying?" She asked, nodding over to pair.

Elijah spun around and followed her line of sight. "That little shit!"

She was unable to keep from rolling her eyes over his antics. "I like how you seem to forget how you once were," she tossed out, referring to the fact that he hadn't been shy with women.

"But then I met and fell so deeply in love with you," he immediately responded without bate.

"Good answer, I've trained you well."

His hands fell at her waist and he pulled her even closer to him. "Yes, you did, wife o' mine."

He couldn't help but feel a sense of accomplishment. Aside from the fact that he detested the thought of his daughters dating or marrying, he couldn't help but feel as if he and Elena had done their children well. With two of them married, or almost married in Ava's case, and Lillian getting ready to go off to college, he was looking forward to having his wife all to himself again.

"I should get back to our bride."

He nodded in response. "I'm actually surprised you left her side for as long as you did," Elijah pointed out.

"She wanted a moment with her friends," she excused, sighing dramatically. "I will see you at the wedding. Hey, save me a dance tonight?"

"I think I can fit you in, but I better check with my girlfriend, she might get jealous," he jested.

She responded with an arched eyebrow. "That is not funny," she denied, thinking on the relatively new, twenty-something paralegal at his firm that didn't seem to care that he was married.

"I like it when you still get jealous over me," he whispered, leaning in placing a kiss on the crook of her neck.

"Well, I don't!" She hated the fact that he appeared to be so amused by her predicament. "Hmmm, maybe I'll give Bill Driscoll a call. It's been a while since I've spoken to him."

His laughter was immediately cut short. "Okay, it's not funny, I get it," he sobered up. Elena had come across Bill years earlier through work. And while she maintained that Bill was only being friendly, Elijah swore the man was half in love with her.

She beamed, proud that she'd been able to turn the tide. "So…about that dance?" Elena tried again.

"Barring the few dances I've reserved for our daughters, I'm yours."

She began to play with the lapel of his suit jacket. Nibbling on her bottom lip, she looked at him through her eyelashes. "I like it when you say things like that."

"I know." It wasn't uncommon for him to say such things, to remind her just how much he treasured her and the life he had with her. "And you know I love it when you flirt with me."

"I know."
