Sorry that this chapter took a bit longer folks. It was actually almost entirely done a week ago, but I got so sick that I couldn't find it in me to write the last 2,000 words. I was also forced to split my planned chapter in two. This was only half, and it was already over 13,000 words. Since I didn't want a 26,000 words chapter, I had to split it. So Naruto entrance into the supernatural world isn't quite complete yet. He finds the door this chapter, but next chapter is when he'll step through it.
Naruto's Family Situation: I'm glad some people liked Naruto's parents. Other people not so much, but you can't please everyone. I also thank everyone for their suggestions. Some people pointed out the exaggerated 'poorness' of Naruto's family. That is the game at work. Before the game they lived better. The game that twisted things to make it more unrealistic, which I have to admit is just me taking creative liberty. Some people also commented on Naruto's parents doing nothing. They are. Naruto's father is going through several temp jobs, and he is receiving benefits from the army. I just don't talk about it because they aren't the focus of the story. As OC characters, I'm trying to avoid focusing on them much besides when they interact with Naruto. Guess I should have given them more focus. I'll make this clear next time they appear.
Itsuko's Harem Speech: Damn, you guys loved that point. Before a lot of you were iffy on the femIssei point, but now many of seem to have come around. I'm glad. I thought I'd overdone the harem speech, but it appears not. Many of you still have questions on Naruto and Itsuko's relationship. While I wish I could give you a definitive answer, it will remain up in the air for a time. It will also evolve as time goes on and the two change and grow themselves.
"You seem rather…worn-out today, Naruto," Itsuko commented with a sweat drop. Naruto's only response was a tired groan, forcing Itsuko to demand incredulously, "Okay, what the hell did Oji-san do to you last night?! Beat you with a bat?!
Naruto and Itsuko's friendship had been renewed after their peeking session. They had started eating lunch together. Not a lot, but it did give them time to talk.
Today Naruto wasn't really up for it. He was instead laying down on the grass, exhausted. Even Itsuko had been able to tell his condition.
It had been several days since Naruto had started training with his father. The first few days had actually been easier than expected. His father had joined Naruto in his morning workouts. Instead of long distance running, his father had started Naruto on something called high-intensity interval training. It was training where you alternated between periods of intense exercise and less-intense recovery periods. The intense exercise consisted of sprints, which trained both stamina and speed. Then during the recovery periods they did multiple different muscular workouts, push-ups, sit-ups, squats, etc. This allowed Naruto to train his muscles, hopefully improving his strength. Overall it was much more intense and draining than his previous long distance running, but Naruto's stamina had been up to the challenge. Naruto had started doing the same thing in the sports fields after school. Then after fighting or doing quests, Naruto went home to have hand-to-hand lessons from his father. These lessons had turned out to be surprisingly easy. Instead of being physically challenging, these lessons were almost entirely Naruto learning basic fighting techniques. Very basic techniques. How to punch and kick properly, etc. These easy lessons had given Naruto enough of a break to handle the more rigorous schedule.
That had changed the previous night though. His father had finally decided to do a spar again to test what Naruto had learned, and had been even more brutal than their previous spar. Naruto still had the bruises he had earned, an achievement considering how fast Naruto healed. These bruises were the reason Naruto was laying on the ground.
At least he had finally gained the skill.
Standard Army Hand-to-Hand
A combat skill. This is the standard hand-to-hand combat style taught in the army, focusing on very close range combat. Also deals with standard close combat weapons. An effective, if mundane, fighting style for humans.
Clearly a better combat skill than Brawler. Naruto only had a single level in it so far, but it was a start. Naruto was sure he would improve quickly with his father training him.
Although Naruto did wonder about the fact that it said 'for humans'.
Naruto finally groaned out to Itsuko, "No, Otou-san is just a slave-driver…He also might have a hidden sadistic streak."
Itsuko wasn't quite sure how to respond, so she just focused on eating her lunch. Naruto finally sat up as he judged that his own ramen had been sitting long enough. He had decided to splurge and eat three today. He was in no mood to moderate himself.
Naruto had already finished his first cup of ramen and started on his second when he was interrupted by several girls squealing. Itsuko looked up first and immediately squealed as well. Naruto rolled his eyes at the noise, but finally looked up.
And immediately choked on his ramen. He pounded his hand into his chest several times to clear his throat. Unfortunately coughing up his half chewed food ruined the rest of the cup, but Naruto didn't even care. He instead focused on the cause.
Rias Gremory and Himejima Akeno. The so-called 'Two Great Ladies of Kuoh Academy'. The two most beautiful and respected females in Kuoh. While Naruto knew of them, and had seen them several times, he had never paid them much attention. They were in the year above him, he rarely saw them, and both of them were way out of his league. There was simply no point for him to give them any thought. They were simply two ridiculously beautiful females he went to school with.
Or at least that was what he had thought. An opinion he now had to revise.
Rias Gremory was a girl with long hair a unique and lovely shade of crimson, light skin, and blue-green eyes. Aquamarine really. The feature that Naruto had to shamefully admit caught most of his attention, besides her hair (Naruto had to also admit he had slight fetish for hair), was her figure. She was ridiculously busty and well-curved. Kuoh was filled to the brim with beautiful girls, but Rias was clearly something outstanding even for Kuoh.
Himejima Akeno was clearly the same, if cut from a different mold. While Rias fit the mold of a foreign princess, Akeno was the traditional Yamato Nadeshiko. Black hair, pale skin, demure and modest personality. Following his hair fetish, most of Naruto's attention was drawn to her hair. It was put in a ponytail with an orange ribbon, and was so long Naruto couldn't understand how it didn't drag on the ground behind her. Naruto was a bit unsettled by her violet eyes though, as Naruto's previous prankster personality allowed him to easily see the mischievousness in them. His gut could also sense a lustful, and downright vulgar, side to her that she seemed to keep hidden. Naruto would also be remiss, as a straight male teenager, to neglect to mention that Akeno was even bustier than Rias, despite being shorter than her by several inches.
Of course their appearances wasn't the reason Naruto had to reconsider his thoughts on them. He had already known the two were inhumanly beautiful and sexy. Everyone knew that.
No, the reason was their power levels. Rias was 31, and Akeno was 29.
31 and 29! That was insane!
Itsuko obviously misunderstood the reason for Naruto's wide eyes as she elbowed him in the ribs playfully as she snickered, "Enjoying the view, huh. I knew peeking would be good for you."
Naruto immediately averted his eyes from the two. Blushing slightly, Naruto immediately protested, "I wasn't 'enjoying the view'. I was simply…shocked about something."
"Shocked about their beauty? About the size of their breasts? Yeah, I can totally understand that," Itsuko asked, clearly not believing him.
"Ugh, not what I meant," Naruto grunted out while burying his face in his hands. Naruto knew he was just burying himself deeper into the hole, but he had to ask. "So, uhhh…What do you know about those two? Anything unusual? Something most other people don't know?"
"So you're going to go for a home run and try to score with one of those two…I'm so proud of you, Naruto," Itsuko gushed out. She then shrugged though as she continued, "Unfortunately, I can't help you there. Don't know much about those two. Or at least nothing that everyone doesn't know. Never been able to peek on them. When those two change the girls with them set up a perimeter and everything. Protect them like the sight of their naked bodies is a national treasure. I've also never talked to them. No way would their guard dogs let me, a pervert, anywhere near them."
Naruto decided to not protest Itsuko's assumption on why he was interested. She wouldn't believe him anyway. He instead thought back to the two.
31 and 29. So much higher than the previous highest of Naruto's father, 15. He had to figure out why that was.
Naruto briefly wondered whether it was just a mistake, but quickly threw that thought away. Better not question the accuracy of the game. If he did it wouldn't be long before Naruto was once again questioning his sanity.
Naruto picked up his last cup of ramen and started eating, his eyebrow furrowed with thought.
Naruto spent the rest of the day considering how to approach the problem. While he had first thought about trying to subtly investigate it, but he had finally decided to be blunt. While Naruto could do subtle, Naruto had picked up the skills Sneak and Eavesdrop by trying to find D-rank quests, he preferred being upfront about stuff. It was quicker and easier.
So as soon as school ended Naruto stood and started walking towards the third year classrooms. He'd find Rias or Akeno and ask them directly. Although first he had to find one of them, since he didn't know the precise classroom they were in. It was a more difficult task than expected, with students flooding the halls to leave.
Naruto finally moved to the side and leaned against the wall. His size then allowed him to look out at the sea of students. He started focusing in on the hair styles and colors of the students. Since he knew he wouldn't be able to pick out Akeno's common hair color from the crowd, Naruto instead looked for the distinctive crimson of Rias' hair.
Naruto feared he had missed her when the students started thinning out, but he then spotted the crimson he was looking for. Rias must have been waiting for the crowd to clear out before leaving herself. Naruto quickly made a beeline for her.
Naruto quickly noticed she wasn't alone, although it wasn't Akeno she was with. It was Souna Shitori, the Student Council President. She was also the third most beautiful and respected female in Kuoh. She had black hair cut into a short bob, light skin, and amethyst eyes. Despite having the coloring of an Asian, Naruto clearly noticed that her features weren't exactly Asian. Sona, unlike Rias and Akeno, had a slim figure.
Naruto mainly took note that her power level was 28, which just made it clearer to Naruto that something was going on here. Another super-strong person, talking to Rias. That couldn't be a coincidence…Naruto did wish Souna wasn't a part of it though. She…kind of intimidated him. Always so cold and stern.
Naruto couldn't back down now though. Not when something more had appeared before him. He had to figure out what was going on. This was the first clue Naruto had to solving the questions he had concerning the power level system. He couldn't let this opportunity go.
His determination renewed, Naruto marched straight up to the two. Giving a polite, if stiff, nod, Naruto said, "Gremory-senpai, Shitori-senpai."
Rias looked at Naruto inquisitively, tilting her head and looking him over. Despite her nonchalant attitude, Naruto saw her examining him a bit too seriously. She then spoke up slowly, "You are…"
"Maeda-san," Souna interrupted bluntly. Meeting his eyes, she immediately demanded in a commanding tone, "Do you need something?"
Naruto had to fight back a shiver. People thought he was intimidating?! Well Souna had him beat by a mile in that regard. Naruto still plowed on though and informed them, "I was hoping I could ask you two a few questions."
"What sort of questions?" Rias asked in confusion.
"Maeda-san, both Rias and I are busy people. Please don't waste our time. If you have questions I'm sure some teachers or the office can answer them for you instead," Souna told him bluntly.
"No, it has to be you two," Naruto insisted, crossing his arms to show he wasn't going to budge. Naruto heard several of the students still in the hall start whispering though…Okay, maybe it wasn't the best idea for Naruto to confront two of the most popular girls in school like this. Probably should have waited till it was in private. Naruto didn't even want to think about what they probably assumed he was planning. Oh well, too late to regret it now. Naruto had no choice but to press on.
"What could you possibly need to ask both Sona and I, Maeda-san," Rias asked. Despite her tone being completely innocent, the males within hearing distance all started glaring at Naruto. Clearly their imaginations were running wild about just what Naruto could ask them.
"How are you two so strong?" Okay…more blunt than Naruto had been hoping for, but the words were already out of his mouth.
Rias just looked at him with clear surprise and asked, "What are you talking about?"
Despite her looking completely genuine, Naruto's gut told him she understood exactly what he meant. Trusting it, Naruto simply narrowed his eyes at her as he retorted, "You know exactly what I mean. How are you two so strong? It's…unreal."
Rias narrowed her eyes right back at Naruto as she clearly thought on how to respond.
Souna was different, and told him in a no nonsense tone, "I don't know what kind of game you are playing, Maeda-san, but I am not amused. I have places to be, and tasks that need to be done. So please stop wasting my time." With that she tried to step around Naruto.
Which he quickly stopped by stepping to block her path. Frowning at her clear desire to leave without answering the question, Naruto told her stubbornly, "Stop evading the question. How are you two so strong?!"
Naruto stared at Souna, refusing to back down. She met his eyes. Suddenly Naruto felt another surge of intimidation towards the Student Council President. He felt like a total idiot, confronting her like this. Asking stupid questions she likely didn't even understand. He should probably just cut his losses and leave before making a bigger fool of himself. However all it took was another look at her power level to dissuade him from that thought.
Seeing that he wasn't going to back down, Souna seemed entirely unamused by Naruto's obstinacy. Adjusting her glasses carefully, she then declared without looking at Naruto, "You know, Maeda-san, this counts as harassment."
"What?!"
Naruto jumped in shock as a multitude of voices screamed that out. He then spun around to look at the crowd that had suddenly appeared behind him, totally baffled by their sudden appearance. There couldn't have been more than half a dozen people in this hallway just moments before. Yet now there was probably three dozen people standing in a mob behind Naruto. Was 'harassment' some magic word popular girls can use to summon a mob of fans to defend themselves with?! There were both males and females in the mob, and they all looked pissed!
"How dare you harass Souna-oneesama, you beast!"
"Don't worry, Rias-oneesama, Souna-oneesama. We'll protect you from that dog!"
"We won't allow you to ravish our Onee-sama's lovely, virginal bodies!"
"Run, Souna-sama, Rias-sama! Before he devours you!"
"He's trying to turn you into his own personal sex slaves."
"Yeah, he'll train you into obedient dogs who listen to his every command!"
"Yeah, and then your breasts, legs, and butts shall all belong to him!"
"We can't allow that! We'd be super jealous of him then!"
"You stupid boys, what sort of thoughts are you having about our Onee-sama's!"
"Later! Maeda is the real threat here! He's the Rottweiler. These guys are just harmless little Chihuahuas in comparison."
"Now that's just rude."
"Let's take out our frustration on Maeda!"
"Yeah!"
Naruto just listened to the multiple yells of the mob with wide eyes. Naruto took a step back when they all refocused on him. He shot a quick glare at Sona, but was then forced to turn around and run away from the mob that started chasing him.
Both Souna and Rias just watched this happen. Rias was amused by the actions of the mob. Turning to Sona, she asked, "Wasn't it a bit harsh to sick all those people on him?"
Devils were beings of desire, and by their very nature were able to entrance and manipulate those around them. They didn't even need to actively use magic. Naturally there were limits to such an ability though. Anyone with a sufficiently strong will would remain entirely unaffected. Anyone who also knew about their nature as devils would also almost certainly be able to resist their allure, unless their desires were too strong and their willpower too weak. Altogether useless against any supernatural beings, but very useful against 'regular' humans. Most of the students at Kuoh never stood a chance of resisting the numerous devils in their vicinity. It was because of this that all the devils attending Kuoh were so idolized, even beyond what their looks would normally allow. It was very convenient for the devils camouflaged among them. No one questioned them, pried into their business, or attempted to get too close. The partially mesmerized students were also, as Sona had just proved, very useful for a distraction.
"He was asking questions we couldn't answer, and wasn't taking no for an answer," Sona claimed coldly. She then looked at Rias as she pointed out sharply, "He's growing bolder…and stronger. Especially mentally. Not only was he completely unaffected by our presences, but he even managed to resist me when I actively used my demonic power to force him to leave. That isn't good. Have you found out anything about him that would explain his changes?"
"No, I haven't. We have a constant watch on him. Either mine or Koneko's familiars during the day, and Akeno's every night. He's not meeting anyone suspicious or sending out messages of any kind. He's just exercising like mad, doing chores around the city, and fighting delinquents," Rias stated in a worried voice, actually biting a fingernail anxiously. Looking at Sona, she asked, "How did we catch his attention? We've been covertly avoiding him ever since his change in behavior, and he only saw Akeno and I for a minute during lunch. If he had some sort of sensor ability, he would have tracked us down earlier."
"Maybe it has to do with sight. Or maybe it was something else entirely," Sona suggested thoughtfully. Not being able to reach a conclusion, she looked at Rias and told her bluntly, "Either way, he'll need to be dealt with soon. One way or another. He's already suspicious. If he is going to find out, we need to control just how he does and his reaction. You offered to handle him when I figured out something was wrong."
"I know," Rias quickly said, rather offended by Sona feeling it necessary to tell her this. She then claimed confidently, "We'll spend a few more weeks watching him and gathering information. Regardless of if we find out something, I'll then confront him."
"Good," Sona replied with a nod. She then started walking away from Rias, already late to the student council meeting. She still called back though, "For now I'll tell my peerage to avoid him. No need to be subtle anymore. He clearly knows something is going on. He won't find out anything from us before you confront him."
"Good. I'll tell the rest of my peerage to do the same," Rias said.
With Sona gone, Rias considered her most recent dilemma. Nothing about Maeda Naruto's actions of late made sense. He had always been an odd man out in Kuoh, but his recent behavior change was downright baffling. His actions today only emphasized that something was going on with him, and Rias knew that if handled wrong he could turn into a problem. She couldn't allow that.
Although if handled right, Rias might just gain herself a new peerage member.
While Rias and Sona had been having their conversation, Naruto had been dealing with the mob chasing after him. Naruto was still shocked he was being chased by a mob. What the hell?! This wasn't an anime where 98% of people were mere filler characters who did outrageous stuff like this!
Deciding to focus more on escaping, Naruto knew his situation was not very good. While Naruto had stamina in spades, he wasn't the fastest guy. He had only started training Speed recently, after all. Combined with the large number of pursuers, Naruto was gradually being cornered. While Naruto wasn't sure what would happen if he was caught, he had no desire to find out. If someone was chasing you, it was just plain common sense to run away.
Naruto growled as his attempt to go down the stairs was once again thwarted by the rush of students coming up the stairs. Naruto had confronted those two on the second floor, which meant he was stuck in a limited amount of space unless he could somehow get outside. Something he couldn't do unless he could get to the ground floor. He quickly moved further down the hallway, towards the last staircase that wasn't blocked. Turning a corner at the edge of the building, Naruto only got twenty feet before he came to a halt. This staircase was blocked off by students as well…Naruto was trapped.
Turning around, Naruto knew his pursers had blocked off both possible ways to go. Naruto looked around, desperate for any sort of escape. Finally spotting a window, Naruto looked through it to see that there were several bushes within jumping distance. Those could cushion his fall, but unfortunately this wasn't one of the windows that opened.
Ah, fuck it!
With that final thought, Naruto took a few steps back. Then just before his pursuers could grab onto him, launched forward. He only had a few steps necessary to gather speed, but it was enough. He then jumped, lifting his arms and legs up to cover his torso and head. He then crashed through the window. The sense of weightlessness was very brief. It was quickly followed by the feel of landing in a bush. For several seconds, Naruto was silent. Then-
"HOLY FUCKING SHIT! THAT HURT! THAT WAS NOT A SMART IDEA! I AM NEVER DOING THAT AGAIN! FUCK YOU, ME THAT THOUGHT THAT WAS A GOOD IDEA!"
Naruto really should have thought that idea through more. If he had, he would have realized it would have been a smarter idea to just take whatever his fellow students were going to do. Because diving through a window and landing in a bush was not like it appeared in the movies.
Firstly, glass cuts…Stupid thing to forget, but Naruto had. Jumping through the glass had resulted in Naruto being cut up pretty bad. Blood was leaking into his eyes from a small cut to his forehead, his thighs and calves each had several long, but thankfully shallow, cut. His arms took the worse punishment from the glass. His left forearm had a deep cut in it, and the edge of his hand had one as well. His right arm literally had a two inch piece of glass sticking out of it. While it was relatively minor in comparison, his uniform was also shredded and being rapidly dyed red from his own blood. The only two bright spots was that Naruto had successfully protected his torso and neck, and that he had jumped far enough that the broken glass didn't fall on top of him. That would have been really bad.
Secondly, bushes do not make good cushions. They are prickly, rough, and can have some thick branches. Naruto was lucky a branch didn't stab into his kidney or anything, but he was sure his ass and back were littered with tiny cuts and abrasions. Not to mention splinters.
Yeah, the movies are very misleading.
Naruto carefully got back to his feet, grimacing at the pain running through his body. He then turned around to look back towards the window he had broken. His pursuers were looking at him through it with wide eyes and gaping mouths. Clearly they didn't believe he had just done that either.
"Okay, that was totally my fault," Naruto admitted while looking at them. He then pointed at them, flinching at the pain that movement caused, before declaring angrily, "But I'm going to blame you as well because this fucking hurts. So let me make this clear. Next time you guys decide to chase me, I'm not going to run. I will fight back. So do it at your own peril…Now I'm going home to make sure I don't bleed to death, but I swear to every god in existence that I will shove my foot up the ass of anyone who tries to stop me."
With that proclamation Naruto turned and started walking away. Well…limp away because he was in pain. That couldn't be stated enough. Naruto was in fucking agony. He was also a bloody mess. Naruto was not eager to explain just how he ended up like this to his parents, but he had no choice. He needed to clean and bandage all his wounds.
Although remembering the series of events that led to this point, Naruto decided this was not over. He was going to figure out what the deal with Rias, Akeno, and Souna was. He had already suffered for those answers, and he was going to have them no matter the cost.
And Souna…Oh, Naruto was totally blaming Souna for how she sicked that mob on him. Even if Naruto was the one idiotic enough to dive through a window, Souna was the one responsible for putting him in that situation…and Naruto would have his vengeance.
Naruto was leaning against a wall at the back of Kuoh. The bell had just rang, and students were preparing to go home or to clubs. Naruto himself had hurried back here.
Naruto's hurry was due to his investigation of Rias, Akeno, and Souna. Although his investigation had quickly expanded to include the entire Student Council and Occult Research Club. True to his word, Naruto had spent the last several days snooping around.
He certainly couldn't forget after the whole window incident. Naruto's parents had not been happy with him when he got home. His father had difficulty believing Naruto could do something so dangerous and reckless, and Naruto didn't even want to remember his mother's reaction. Naruto had actually been forced to miss school the next day due to his injuries so Naruto had just spent the entire day brooding about everything that had occurred. The only upside was that Naruto's healing factor allowed him to recover quickly. He even only got one permanent scar, the wound on his right forearm that had a piece of glass sticking out of it. Naruto was still pissed though, and by the time he got back to school Naruto had been raring to go. He would figure out what was being hidden from him.
Although the investigation hadn't gone as Naruto had expected. He had started his investigation by trying to see if there were any other students at Kuoh who were inhumanly strong. Naruto had been so focused on training and working since the game started that he hadn't properly scouted his fellow students. With three having popped up, Naruto had believed it likely there were more. Naruto had been proven correct when he did find several more students. He would have talked to them, but Naruto had relented when he noticed that they were members of the student council. Souna was the president. That couldn't have been a mere coincidence. Naruto had quickly found out who was part of the student council from his fellow students, and had immediately set out to scout them. Naruto had been disturbed to note that every single one of them had a high power level. The lowest, a first year named Ruruko Nimura, had a power level of 16.
That had obviously set off all the alarm bells in Naruto's head. The entire student council! It was obvious something was up. Naruto felt like one of those paranoid conspiracy theorists, but he was going to get to the bottom of the situation regardless.
However Naruto had decided to switch the focus of his interrogation. With the entire club stronger than him, and Souna clearly willing to play dirty, Naruto had no interest in risking provoking a reaction from them. So Naruto had instead decided to investigate Rias and Akeno.
Now knowing something was up with the student council, Naruto had remembered that Rias and Akeno were part of some obscure club no one knew anything about. That had seemed a good place to start. Unfortunately, Naruto had not been able to find out a thing about the so called Occult Research Club. His fellow students knew next to nothing about it. Where it was held, what they did, etc. All they knew was that several of the most popular kids in school were part of it. Most people just called it the Idol Club. Naruto had attempted to follow his fellow second year Yuuto Kiba to their clubroom, but Naruto kept losing him. The guy would turn a corner, and by the time Naruto looked around it the hallway would be empty. The guy must be insanely fast, or could teleport. Naruto wasn't sure which to believe.
So Naruto had been forced to gather information on them in a more indirect manner. Since the office held information concerning every club, Naruto had used Sneak to sneak in and steal the information regarding the Occult Research Club. That lunch he used the copier in the library to copy them, and had then returned the originals after school.
The papers had provided Naruto with something to think about, but few answers. For one, Rias Gremory was the one to establish the Occult Research Club during her first year. At the time the only other member had been Himejima Akeno, which was suspicious as every club was supposed to have no less than four members. Also suspicious was that every new member of the club was registered the first day of the new school years. Usually it took a few days for people to find clubs. Naruto had also learned that the Occult Research Club had a fifth member, one Gasper Vladi. Naruto had been forced to sneak back into the office and steal the attendance sheets just to prove there was a student by that name that attended Kuoh. However he had not even showed up for class once. The mere knowledge that he hadn't been kicked out of Kuoh yet was weird. The club members had also logged in far too many missing days for 'club activities' than there should have been. Hell, Naruto had even read the research papers the club turned in to fulfill school club requirements. The papers were rather underwhelming, only stating things everyone knew, and likely only required a few hours to write. Certainly not enough to account for all their club time. Finally there was the fact that several complaints had been filed from people looking to join the Occult Research Club. While it was allowed for a club president to set some sort of standard test to decide who enters their club, Rias had apparently denied every applicant without even that much. Such a practice should have been against school rules.
Altogether it clearly painted a picture of something being hidden. Not only by Rias, but by the school as a whole. Multiple aspects of the Occult Research Club couldn't be possible without assistance of someone powerful in the school. Kuoh was owned by several foreign aristocratic families, but Naruto hadn't been able to find out anything more about said families. Naruto's best theory was that Rias's family, the Gremory's, were one of the families and that was why she seemed capable of ignoring multiple school rules.
Naruto had learned one thing that particularly helped him though. The location of the Occult Research Club's clubroom. It was in the old school building.
It was yet another reason that showed Rias wielded some power in the school. The new school building had been built two years ago, when Kuoh turned co-ed. Since then the old school building had remained empty. Rumors had even sprung up that it was haunted due to its rundown state, which was weird since it had only been abandoned two years ago. For the Occult Research Club to be allowed a clubroom there while everyone else was forbidden was clearly indicative of something.
This knowledge was useful to Naruto though as it meant he could actually go to their clubroom. Ever since he had confronted Rias and Souna, the members of their clubs had been avoiding Naruto. Quite obviously. Whenever a member spotted Naruto they would either leave or join a group of students. Naruto had already seen what would happen if he confronted one of these intensely popular students around other people, and had no desire to do a repeat. Now Naruto knew their clubroom though.
It meant he could confront them. Something Naruto felt was necessary as he hadn't managed to find any answers yet. Only more questions. Naruto had only been able to come to three conclusions from all he had learned. One, the student council was a cover for something. Two, the Occult Research Club was a cover for something. And three, the school was also in on it. If Naruto wanted to get to the nitty gritty, he likely had to get the answers directly.
Naruto had previously decided that he would do that today, hence his rush. He had resolved to try and get these answers from the Occult Research Club. Naruto still had a grudge against Souna, and so wasn't going to go to her.
He should get to that. He had exited the new school building at the nearest exit to the old school building. He could even see the roof of the building just beyond the tree line. It was right there.
Except Naruto didn't move. Now that he was looking at the building, he was hesitating. Actually, scratch that. Naruto was frozen.
In truth, Naruto's nervousness had been rising steadily as the investigation had continued. Naruto had previously been ignoring it, but he found he could ignore it no longer. Not with things about to come to a head. Everything he had discovered seemed to indicate this was something larger than he had first believed. Two clubs, clearly more than they seemed. A school, owned by rich foreign families no one knew about, that seemed to assist in trying to cover that up. There was clearly a conspiracy going on, and Naruto suddenly wasn't sure if he wanted to stir that hornet's nest. They might not appreciate Naruto's search for answers.
Naruto quickly flipped through the notebook where he had kept notes about his investigation. Eventually he came to the page where he had noted down the power levels of everyone he had met. Well, everyone over 10.

Kiyome Abe-13
The underlined names were the members of the Occult Research Club, and the ones in parenthesis were members of the student council. Naruto had simply stumbled upon Kiyome Abe, who was captain of the Tennis Club. Although her power level was too high for there not to be some story to her, it didn't appear as important as the others. So Naruto had mainly disregarded her.
Reading the list of numbers did not help sooth Naruto's nerves. Naruto had finally reached 10 two days ago, and completed his Power Up! Quest. It certainly wasn't high enough for this case. Naruto had even been annoyed to find out his father had actually increased more than Naruto himself. Naruto's father had gone from 15 to 17. Clearly he just had to shake of the dust, so to speak, compared to Naruto who was forced to actually learn from nothing. Against either of these groups Naruto would be helpless if things degenerated to a fight.
Naruto's resolve was slowly breaking down as he realized more and more that doing anything more could be legitimately dangerous. Who knows what he had stumbled on? Maybe it was important enough that 'silencing' one meddlesome kid wouldn't matter. Did Naruto really want to risk it? Was his curiosity more important than his safety?
Naruto growled and shook his head as he considered this. Damn, psyching himself out on the final lap.
Naruto suddenly had an idea. Reaching into his bag, he pulled out his journal. The codex! Naruto couldn't believe he hadn't thought of it before. Naruto immediately opened the journal up to the codex page on the Occult Research Club.
The Occult Research Club is a club of Kuoh Academy.
With only five members, the ORC is a small and highly prestigious club. It is oftentimes referred to as the Idol Club. Based out of the old school building, the ORC is an intensely secluded club. Rias Gremory is the club president, and Himejima Akeno is the vie-president.
There are subtle clues that the ORC is a front for something else.
"Mysterious. He's trying to learn the truth about us, and is uncovering too much. We'd prefer to wait a few weeks, but if he pushes any further we'll have to confront him."
Naruto mainly focused on the reputation. Clearly Naruto hadn't been as subtle as he had believed. They had clearly noticed. It also seemed his actions were alarming them, forcing them to think about confronting him. While he had been planning to confront them, hearing that they might confront him only alarmed him. Although it appeared they wanted to wait a few weeks. Part of Naruto liked the idea of waiting a bit before dealing with this mess.
Shaking his head in indecision, Naruto turned to the codex on the student council.
The Kuoh Student Council is the main student governing body of the school. They are responsible for club administration, student punishment (with assistance from teachers), arrangement of special events like fundraisers or social events, and such activities.
The current student council president is Souna Shitori, and the vice-president is Shinra Tsubaki.
There are subtle clues that the student council is involved in other, less public, activities.
"His activities have clearly taken a suspicious turn recently. ORC volunteered to handle him, but seem to be delaying. If he continues investigating we'll need to deal with him ourselves."
'Deal with him'?! That wasn't ominous at all.
Okay, Naruto was really starting to think it wasn't the best time to do this. He really had only spent a few days investigating. Maybe he should take a few days or weeks to consider what he learned more. The ORC was apparently planning to confront him anyway. Might as well wait for them to make the first move.
Although part of Naruto was railing against the idea of backing down. The part that had been slowly returning since this game had started. The reckless and never-say-die attitude Naruto used to have in middle school. It was yelling at Naruto to march into that clubroom and not take no for an answer.
Naruto jumped and let out a rather unmanly shriek when someone touched his shoulder. Naruto quickly spun around to see a grinning Itsuko. She quickly asked in a teasing voice, "Not paying attention, Naruto?"
Naruto tried to cover his blush of embarrassment by coughing into his hand…It didn't really work. Finally Naruto just asked, "What are you doing here, Itsuko?"
Itsuko just shrugged as she informed him, "Was about to go peek on the softball club." She added onto this statement by motioning towards where Matsuda and Motohama were standing nearby. They were glaring at Naruto. Naruto was disgruntled by their presence, but did his best to ignore them entirely. Itsuko quickly asked, "What about you?"
Naruto shot one last look at the old school building before answering, "Nothing much. Just wandering around. I think I'll be going home about now."
"Alright, I'll walk with you."
"But Itsuko!"
"We were going peeking!"
"The softball club!"
Itsuko just waved off Matsuda and Motohama's protests and told them, "There's no need to rush. They'll need another ten to all meet up and start changing. More than enough time to walk Naruto to the gate."
The two reluctantly accepted her words, and Naruto just shrugged in consent. While he would prefer not to spend more time with Matuda and Motohama than necessary, it would only be a few minutes. He could handle that…Maybe.
With that the four set off walking towards the front of the school. Unfortunately for Naruto, Motohama quickly turned to Naruto and asked gleefully, "I hear that you were harassing Rias-sempai and Souna-sempai."
Sighing in annoyance, Naruto grunted out, "I wasn't harassing them. I was just trying to ask them something."
"Don't lie. Everyone knows you were trying to seduce those two goddesses," Motohama quickly said.
"Heh! Take that, damn playboy. You struck out like everyone else," Matsuda snapped. Naruto was only barely able to control the urge to smack him as he continued, "We even heard that you started harassing them so much that people started chasing you. See! You aren't better than us!"
Motohama quickly added on, "We even heard you were stupid enough to jump through a window."
"I was not trying to seduce them, and I didn't start harassing them!" Naruto barked out. However his anger drained away and his cheeks flushed slightly as he admitted, "I did jump through a window though."
Itsuko immediately burst out laughing and thumped Naruto on the back in congratulations as she declared, "That's sweet. I always wanted to try that."
"Don't!" Naruto immediately said, turning and grabbing her shoulders. He then looked her in the eyes as he told her seriously, "Don't…do it. It isn't like the movies portray it. It isn't cool or fun. It hurts!"
"Ugh…Ok~ay," Itsuko replied hesitantly, taken aback by Naruto's words and attitude.
Naruto decided to just move on as if nothing happened. Itsuko eventually followed, and the other two as well. They were now silent though. That just made it easier for Naruto to be able to tell something was going on when they approached the front of the school. They had arrived at the area where they students were supposed to change their shoes, but the students present weren't leaving. They instead seemed to be moving in a certain direction, as if there was something interesting over there.
"What's going on?" Itsuko asked, noticing the same thing as Naruto.
Naruto just shrugged, but then tilted his head. When Itsuko opened her mouth to speak Naruto lifted a hand to silence her. In the silence the conversation of the two boys walking past them became audible as Naruto activated Eavesdrop.
"A magical girl, really?"
"Yeah, and she's hot. Like, really hot. Big boobs too."
"Why would a girl like that be doing here if she's not a student?"
"I heard she was chasing after Kaichou."
"Why?"
"I don't know, dude. I just want to get some pics before she leaves."
That was the last bit they could hear before the two boys left their hearing range. Before Naruto or Itsuko could comment Matsuda and Motohama turned to each other and exclaimed in unison, "Ohh, a big boobed magical girl." With that the two shot off in the direction the boys had been heading.
Itsuko just chuckled and faced Naruto before asking with a gleam in her eyes, "Want to go see a big boobed magical girl?"
"The big boobed part is rather unnecessary," Naruto replied.
"But appreciated," Itsuko immediately quipped.
Naruto just rolled his eyes as he continued while ignoring the interruption, "But I am interested in why a girl is cosplaying at school, and following the Kaichou around."
Mainly the part about Souna, the Kaichou. Opportunities for revenge usually came about from awkward situations. Naruto doubted Souna was ever part of a situation more awkward than being chased by a cosplaying magical girl.
Itsuko obviously didn't believe him though as she replied teasingly, "Yeah, sure."
Naruto decided to just accept her skepticism and started moving. They quickly arrived at the crowd. Naruto led the way through. If there was an upside to his appearance and apparent intimidation factor, it was that he was able to work his way through crowds rather easily. Itsuko simply followed in his wake. Naruto quickly reached the front, and unfortunately found himself next to the salivating Matsuda and Motohama. Grunting at their presence, Naruto just ignored them and focused on the occurring scene before him.
Souna was indeed present, along with several other members of the student council. It appeared she was being harassed, but not in the way one would suspect. It appeared Souna was trying to get away from another girl who wouldn't allow her too. Souna had a clear blush of embarrassment, and some exasperation, on her face. It was probably the most emotion Naruto had ever seen from the controlled girl. Usually that would have been more than enough to catch Naruto's attention, but this time his attention was fixed on something else.
Naruto felt his heart stop briefly when he saw the power level of the girl currently harassing Souna. The cosplaying girl's power level was…59.
What was with this week?! First he found some inhumanly strong people. Then he found out there was clearly a conspiracy based around two school clubs. Now he finds someone who could probably kill him by sneezing too hard in his direction.
Apparently realizing the crowd around her was cutting of any escape, and that she was creating a spectacle, Souna turned around to face the other girl. She then said in a louder than normal voice, "Stop, Onee-sama!"
Onee-sama? That was Souna's older sister? Naruto had difficulty believing the strict and taciturn Souna would have an older sister that went around cosplaying as a magical girl. Although their inhuman power levels did match up.
Actually, now that he was looking, Naruto could detect the similarities in their appearances. Their eyes were the exact same shade of amethyst, with their skin being the exact same tone as well. Their facial structures were also eerily similar. They certainly weren't twins though. The new girl's eyes were larger and a different shape than Souna's, and her black hair was a different shade of black than Souna's. She was a tiny thing, being several inches shorter than the average sized Souna, even more if you took into account the heel-boots she was wearing. Her figure was rather amazing though. A bit childish, but still hourglass. Unlike Souna's slim figure, she had large breasts, a slim waist, and a plump bottom. Very bodacious. Overall she wouldn't lose to anyone in terms of beauty.
"What's wrong, Sona-chan? Your face is all red. You should be happy. You get to see your beloved Onee-sama again," the girl declared happily while throwing her arms in the air.
Souna was clearly feeling stressed when she yelled, "Onee-sama, I'm the student council president around here. I simply cannot approve of your outfit or your conduct, even if you are my family."
"So mean, Sona-chan. Don't say that. It makes me sad," the girl complained childishly. She then swooned as she exclaimed loudly, "We should be running into each other's arms while calling each other's names. 'Onee-sama!' 'So-tan!' We then start hugging with lilies in the background, preferably in a yuri way. That's the sort of development I was wanting. Me being all yuri-yuri with So-tan!"
"I told you to not add 'tan'!" Souna protested, blushing fiercely.
"But lovers have to have pet names for each other, Sona-chan."
"We aren't lovers."
"Yet!"
Now that conversation got a reaction from the crowd. A hot girl suggesting yuri with another hot girl was naturally enough to excite teenage boys. Not even to mention the blatant incest involved. The girls present were simply shocked by Souna's older sister. Souna was probably the person most admired by the females of Kuoh, so they were no doubt shocked by the clear contrast between Sona and her sister. Overall, everyone was totally focused on the byplay.
Even Naruto, although from the start he had been having difficulty tearing his eyes away from Souna's sister. She was very much his type, not that he was alone in that regard. The magical girl outfit was very weird, but still kind of cute. Naruto had always had a fondness for short girls as well. Not to mention her hair. It was longer, glossier, and silkier than Souna's. Clearly she took good care of it. The twin ponytails captured his attention as well.
Itsuko noticed his glazed over eyes and smirked. She then asked casually, "You always did have a fetish for hair, didn't you? Particularly twin ponytails, right?"
"Yeah. Gives you something to grab onto," Naruto answered automatically. His eyes widened though when he realized what he had just said. His cheeks immediately started burning and he lowered his head in mortification.
Itsuko burst out laughing at his response, but it was Matsuda and Motohama that commented first. Matsuda remarked smugly, "Look at him. He's blushing."
Motohama quickly ran with it and added, "So innocent and inexperienced. Being embarrassed simply from the admission of a fetish. Heh. How pathetic."
That was enough to snap Naruto from his shame. He shot the two a straight face as he retorted, "Didn't you guys call me a playboy just five minutes ago. Now you call me innocent and inexperienced. Make up your mind." Naruto was totally innocent and inexperienced, but he wasn't going to admit that.
Maybe they sensed his thoughts, but the two seemed unusually confident. Matsuda quickly said, "I knew you were simply putting on a façade that you were a ladies man. I bet you haven't even kissed someone before."
"I never put on a façade," Naruto muttered quietly to himself before telling them, "And I have indeed kissed someone before."
"Really? Who? And your mother doesn't count," Motohama questioned.
Itsuko now blushed slightly. Naruto had kissed Itsuko when they were kids. Irina too. They were just playing around, experimenting. Even Itsuko and Irina kissed.
Deciding to spare Itsuko Naruto just shrugged as he replied, "I have, and who doesn't matter. It wasn't my mother either. Plus, kisses don't really matter. It's just two people touching their lips together. No big deal."
"A kiss is a huge deal," the two insisted in unison.
"No, it isn't," Naruto claimed with a shrug. "I could go up and kiss a girl right now without it meaning anything."
"Then do it," Matsuda said.
"Right now," Naruto asked, honestly caught off guard by the dare. Probably shouldn't have been. He really set himself up for it.
"Heh, he won't do it," Motohama taunted.
Naruto felt his eye twitch and he quickly snapped out, "Fine, I'll do it."
Naruto then turned to look out at the crowd. Plenty of girls present. Itsuko would be the obvious option. They had kissed before and Naruto was sure Itsuko wouldn't knee him in the nuts for doing it like most girls probably would. However, that would be a copout. Naruto needed to prove that a kiss didn't mean much. Naruto's eyes suddenly alighted on Souna arguing with his sister.
Naruto wouldn't be able to say in the future what drove him to do the next series of actions he was going to do. He would later claim temporary insanity because that's what it was. Insanity. All he knew was that he had to kiss someone, he still needed to get Souna back for the mob incident, and the current situation already provided plenty of fuel and oil. All it needed was a small spark and everything would come to fruition…His perfect revenge.
Naruto decided he had the perfect 'spark' in mind.
Without another word Naruto strode forward. Everyone turned to face the person who interrupted the scene, even the previously arguing Souna and her sister. Naruto moved till he was towering above Souna's confused sister. Naruto shot her an apologetic smile and told her, "I apologize in advance for this. You can pay me back afterwards."
She opened her mouth to say something, but Naruto cut her off. How? By leaning down and kissing her.
It was not an intimate or passionate kiss, but neither was it a mere peck. Naruto had simply pressed his lips against hers firmly, his hand placed underneath her chin and tilted her head upwards to make it work better. Naruto's didn't attempt to deepen it or introduce his tongue. He just stayed that way for several, clear seconds. She didn't break it either, likely too shocked to move.
It was after at least five seconds that Naruto pulled away, breaking the kiss. He then looked down at the girl he had just kissed. Her eyes were wide, disbelieving of what he just did. Naruto's eyes then turned to Souna. Her jaw had dropped and her mouth was open. Her eyes were opened so wide they looked like they might pop out of her head. The shock on her face was probably the most emotion he had ever seen from her. It was an amusing sight. He'd definitely review it later in Media for laughs. The other student council members behind her were the same. They looked as if Naruto had just kissed a shark. Disbelief and slight fear on their faces. Naruto finally looked at Motohama and Matsuda and smirked.
He then looked back at the girl he had just kissed. Straightening, Naruto told her, "Okay, you can knee me in the nuts or whatever you feel is necessary to get me back for that. I crossed a line, so I'll take it without complaint."
She immediately kicked him in the shin.
Naruto heard a clear crack coming from his shin, and the pain quickly followed. Naruto was pretty sure she just broke his leg. Slumping to the side slightly as his leg gave out, Naruto caught himself. He then stood back up, putting most of his weight on his good leg.
Naruto muffled a groan of pain before exclaiming in a strained voice, "Okay, that was a good kick."
"Mou, you big meanie," the girl declared with teary eyes. She then waved her arms around in a tantrum as she continued, "You kissed me! That was my first kiss, meanie! Sona was supposed to be my first kiss. I've been saving my lips for her, and you ruined it!"
"You wanted Souna to be your first kiss?" Naruto asked, his mind running. The girl just nodded sullenly, her tantrum having apparently died down. Naruto immediately grinned and proclaimed, "Then I think I've got a solution."
Naruto turned to Souna. Then, before Souna could react, he leaned down and kissed her. Souna stiffened at the action, but didn't pull away. Naruto once again stayed there for several seconds, simply pressing his lips against hers. He then pulled away. Not even taking the time to look at what expression Souna was making, he turned back to her sister. He then grabbed her and pulled her close. Leaning down once more, Naruto once again pressed his lips to hers. Their second kiss was little different from their first.
Naruto finally pulled away. Looking down at her, he informed her with a grin, "There. I took your first kiss, but right afterwards I kissed Souna. So Souna indirectly got your first kiss. I then kissed you again, so you indirectly kissed Souna. See? Everything solved. You indirectly kissed Souna."
For several seconds she just blinked at Naruto. Naruto wondered whether she was going to kick him again, but she then squealed and clapped her hands together as she exclaimed excitedly, "You're right. That totally makes sense." Naruto let out a brief sigh of relief, glad that by some miracle his logic appeared sound in her mind. However her excitement died down as she claimed dourly, "It's not the same though. It's not like I actually kissed Souna."
Nodding, Naruto suggested bluntly, "Then kiss her."
Tilting her head, the girl asked, "Just like that."
"Yeah. Just like that. Not like she's going to resist. She seems frozen," Naruto replied, pointing at Souna. True to his word, Souna appeared completely frozen. Clearly Naruto kissing her had as much an impact as him kissing her sister. "Here, I'll help."
With that Naruto placed his hand on her back, and his other went to the back of Souna's head. He then tilted Souna's head down while pushing her sister forward. She quickly moved without his prompting and pressed her own lips against Souna's. Naruto watched with pleasure as the kiss lasted for several seconds.
The girl finally pulled away. Giving a delighted sigh, she then announced, "That's better."
"I'm happy for you," Naruto immediately said with a smile before continuing, "But now I need to…"
Naruto then moved and kissed the cosplaying girl once again. This time it was a mere peck. He didn't stop afterwards though, instead turning to Souna and kissing her as well.
"Okay, why did you kiss us that time?" The girl asked in confusion, not really reacting to his third kiss with her.
"Do I need a reason to kiss two beautiful girls?" Naruto asked with a matching confusion.
"Good point," the girl claimed with an understanding nod.
"How about you kiss Souna again? That way the number of kisses between us is all equal," Naruto suggested.
"Yay, come here Sona," the girl cheered before once again kissing the frozen Souna. She then pulled back with another sighed as she commented in a content voice, "Now I've kissed Sona-chan twice. Best…day…ever!"
"Glad I could be of assistance."
"Wait a second. You still took my first kiss! Probably Sona-chan's too. You still owe me," the girl claimed while pointing at Naruto's face.
"I thought the kick to my shin was the payback?"
"No," the girl stated immediately while shaking her head furiously. She then explained, "The kick was revenge for kissing me without permission. However there is still the matter of my first kiss. You plundered and violated my pure, maiden lips! You must make that up to me!"
Naruto tilted his head. He really didn't want to receive another one of those kicks, and he really needed to get out of the immediate area before Souna recovered. Finally he asked, "How about I buy you some ice cream?"
"Yay, ice cream!" The girl immediately squealed out. She moved and grabbed his arm. She then started dragging him as she continued excitedly, "Let's go!"
Naruto didn't struggle, instead just doing his best to not be dragged. He was walking with a noticeable limp, but no one noticed. They were too distracted. Even once Naruto and the magical girl left the area, no one moved. They were all frozen from sheer shock at what just happened in front of them. Naruto had quite literally left everyone speechless.
"…Wow…" Itsuko finally got out, recovering from her own shock slightly. She then turned to the devastated Matsuda and Motohama as she added, "Now that was what a harem king should be like…Now if only Naruto could channel that more often."
"But…What…He…" Matsuda stuttered out, incapable of finishing a thought. Completely blown away by the awesomeness of the scene he had just witnessed.
"Damn it! I knew he was a playboy," Motohama finally exclaimed.
"Yeah, damn that playboy!"
"Damn him!" All the boys present broke out of their shock to scream that in unison.
"Kaichou! Kaichou!"
"Snap out of it, Souna-Kaichou"
"Maeda broke her!"
The members of the student council said such things as they crowded around the frozen Souna. Souna was still out of it, and it didn't appear she'd be recovering anytime soon. Clearly being kissed by a guy she didn't like and barely knew together with her sister, both of them twice, was too much for her to take. The blank look in her eyes made it clear no one was home. Souna's system had crashed, and now needed to be rebooted…System error!
"Okay, I'm down," Naruto announced blankly as his leg finally collapsed on top of him. He was still pretty sure that his leg was broken from her earlier kick. He had just been hiding it for as long as possible. That scene was totally badass, and he hadn't wanted to ruin it by falling on his face in front of everyone. So instead he had endured it and kept moving. Probably not the smartest move, but no one could accuse Naruto of being the smartest guy.
"Mou, what are you doing?" the magical girl asked from above him with a pout.
"You should know. You are the one that broke my leg with a kick…or at least cracked the bone," Naruto replied bluntly, looking up at her…Trying to ignore the clear panty shot she was giving him.
"But you were supposed to buy me ice cream," she protested.
"Come on, we both know that isn't true. You just played along so you could get some privacy to lynch me or something," Naruto retorted, resigned to his fate.
He had accepted it as inevitable. He did kiss someone so strong she could probably kill him with a look if she really wanted to. Maybe that wasn't such a good idea. Oh, it ended up working perfectly to get back at Souna. She had even played along, but Naruto figured it was a final kindness. Like her own version of a death row inmate's last meal. She played along, let him get a few more kisses in, so that she could lynch him afterwards while he was still on a high. The fact that she dragged him into the first alley they came across had only reinforced the thought.
Apparently not though as she simply put on a confused face and asked, "What do you mean?"
Naruto narrowed his eyes at her suspiciously. He then asked, "You didn't bring me here so that you could wreak some terrible vengeance upon me."
"…No, I brought you here because my favorite ice cream parlor is in this direction," she answered while looking at him weirdly. She then pointed out, "You said you were going to buy me ice cream."
Okay, apparently Naruto had been wrong. He had figured that due to her power level her retaliation for the kiss would be something equally intense. However it seemed strength and sadism didn't go hand in hand. She didn't bring him out here to lynch him. She just wanted the ice cream he had promised. Alright. Naruto might have provoked her in a temporary fit of insanity, and acknowledged that he couldn't escape someone of her power, but it wasn't like he wanted to be punished. He much preferred just buying her some ice cream.
Naruto finally lifted his hand from his position on the ground and grunted out, "Yeah, I did. Better keep my promise. I can't walk though, so think you can just drag me there?"
"Okay," she replied happily before gripping his arm in an almost painfully tight grip. She then started dragging Naruto across the ground with ease. It no doubt was a comical sight for anyone close enough to see. A small girl dragging Naruto like a rag doll. Although the ease by which she was dragging him did reinforce her power level. Naruto might as well have been a toddler for all the difficulty she was having. Finally, after three blocks, Naruto found himself deposited in a seat at a table outside an ice cream parlor. The girl then announced, "Here we are. My favorite place."
"Okay," Naruto managed to reply, his leg, and newly worn backside, bothering him. The two didn't get to say anything else before a person came to take their orders. The girl rattled of her order of a banana split with strawberry syrup so smoothly it was clearly her regular order. Naruto eventually chose a single scoop of sherbet. He was paying after all. Couldn't go all out or anything and run out of money. After the waiter left things turned awkward…for Naruto at least. The girl opposite him was just humming contentedly, apparently satisfied with the idea of ice cream. Naruto finally asked, "Okay, I never got your name. Kind of necessary information. I'm Maeda Naruto. Nice to meet you."
His introduction only excited her. Jumping to her feet, she did a spin as she said theatrically, "Nice to meet you. I am Serafall Sitri. Call me Levia-tan." She finished in a pose.
Naruto took note of the last name she used. It wasn't the same as Souna's, which was Shitori. It sounded similarly, but was different. A pseudonym?
Naruto didn't ask about that though, as it might be part of the conspiracy. Instead he raised an eyebrow and repeated, "Levia-tan?"
She nodded enthusiastically and continued striking poses as she told him, "Yes. I am the great magical girl, Levia-tan. With my glittering wand in hand, I fight evil wherever I might find it."
Naruto was once again forced to question if this really was Souna's older sister. Not only were the two so different, but with Souna being a third year Serafall would have to be at least college age. For her to behave like this was kind of weird.
Naruto finally shrugged and told her, "How about I call you Serafall-chan instead?"
Serafall immediately slumped as she replied with a pout, "Why does no one call me Levia-tan despite me telling everyone to?"
"How about I call you Sera-chan? That's a compromise," Naruto suggested.
"Fine," Serafall grumbled out with a pout.
Naruto just ignored her pout. Serafall very much seemed a person affected by exaggerated mood swings. Wondering what to talk about, Naruto's eyes finally found themselves focusing on her cosplay outfit. So he asked bluntly, "So what is up with the outfit?"
It proved the right thing to ask about to raise Serafall's mood. Brightening, she resumed making poses. Seemingly not caring that she was giving him panty flashes every pose, she explained cheerfully, "I admire magical girls so much I simply have to imitate them. They are my idols. They are a classic symbol of feminine strength, and they prove that females can both be strong and cute. They are also a symbol of purity and innocence. This outfit if from Magical Girl Milky Spiral Seven. It is worn by-"
"Mil Kiss. It's her alternative outfit for that season," Naruto pitched in, his tone bored. Naruto had unfortunately watched many magical girl shows with Itsuko, who loved them almost as much as harem shows. He then added with a scoff, "Purity and innocence? More like obliviousness and a lack of modesty."
"…What did you say?" Serafall asked slowly, a dangerous aura starting to surround her.
Naruto really should have taken that as a sign to stop talking, but unfortunately his obstinacy decided to rear its head so he instead informed her frankly, "Magical girls might once have stood for that, but now they represent unlimited panty shots and hot girls dressing in revealing and formfitting outfits."
Wrong thing to say to Serafall.
Glaring at him now, Serafall immediately countered, "Totally wrong. The outfits are meant to be cute, and they are secondary. The most important aspect is the pure and untainted hearts of the magical girls, and their fight to uphold the principles and peace and friendship."
"Please," Naruto replied, entirely unconvinced. "'The principles of peace and friendship'. More like meaningless chatter about the strength of the human spirit that no one even pays attention to. And no girl with a pure and untainted mind would feel it necessary to wear the outfits that they do."
"It is because of their pure and untainted hearts that they can wear such outfits innocently. For them it isn't about how they might appear to others. The outfits are cute, and thus they enjoy wearing them. It is because of your impure and soiled heart that you aren't able to understand this," Serafall argued.
Only for Naruto to protest right back, "Totally untrue. Any guy in the world would notice when a girl feels it necessary to flash her panties every few minutes. You can't say half the population has impure and tainted hearts."
"Nuh uh. Naruto-chan is just a lewd guy. You did taint my lips after all," Serafall pointed out with a pout.
"I'm lewd?" Naruto asked incredulously. He immediately gestured at her as he remarked, "Look at your outfit! Every pose you did flashed me your panties. That's because you feel it necessary to wear a skirt so short a slight breeze can lift it up. Not to mention your shirt is so short your stomach is bare, and it is tight across your breasts. Are you even wearing a bra?!"
"This is not about any bra I might or might not be wearing," Serafall claimed, a blush forming on her cheeks. "This is about a girl's ability to wear whatever she might like. A girl can choose an outfit simply because it's cute. They shouldn't have to worry about how others might perceive that outfit."
"Maybe, but is it really innocent?" Naruto questioned. "Magical girl shows always flash their panties. Why don't they ever wear sweatpants? Those are super comfortable."
"Skirts are comfortable too! They breathe and aren't restrictive at all," Serafall claimed firmly.
"Always though? Sweatpants are comfortable too. Why would a girl wear skirts all the time?"
"It isn't always. Kaeda-chan in Milky Spiral Six wore jeans in episode nine."
"It was a shopping sequence where she tried on many different clothes, and right afterwards she ran out of the dressing room naked when Doctor Destructo attacked."
"It was blurred!"
"Only on TV. The bought copies have it uncensored."
"Merely the actions of a company more focused on profits to please lewd boys like you who watch it simply for that sort of stuff!"
"Firstly, I didn't buy it. My female friend did, and she forced me to watch it. Secondly, that same profit focused company produced the shows. If they are focused on pleasing lewd boys like me, then it just shows that all the panty shots were for a lecherous purpose. Not to showcase innocence or purity."
"The actions of a company do not designate the purpose of an entire genre."
"No, the fans do. So the lewd boys who watch it."
"They aren't true fans. They aren't the ones that connect with the heart of true magical girl."
Two minutes later the waitress who brought them their ice cream could only sweat drop at the scene she arrived to. Serafall had Naruto's hurt leg in her grip, and she was clearly using it to punish Naruto. Naruto meanwhile was yelling through his pain that punishing him won't change the fact that she lost the argument. Serafall then added to the torture by quite literally biting the inside of his thigh. Their ice cream was forgotten in favor of their argument.
It took five minutes for their impromptu wrestling match to die down. The two then settled back into their seats, where there ice cream was waiting. It appeared the waitress decided to just stay out of it and left the ice cream there for them.
"Did you really have to bite me?" Naruto grumbled at the pain in his thigh.
"Yes, you were being a big meanie," Serafall answered curtly. She then added while sulking, "My magical girl outfit is not weird. It's awesome and cute!"
"It's totally weird," Naruto retorted bluntly. His words immediately caused Serafall to send him a cute glare with teary eyes. It was too cute for Naruto to resist, so he sighed and offered conciliatorily, "Okay, it is cute. Still weird, but definitely cute."
"Yay."
"It also gives a ton of panty shots, which is rather nice for me," Naruto commented, feeling a sudden urge to tease her.
It didn't work though. Serafall just shrugged and said without much care, "As long as it is cute, I don't care about stuff like that. The lewd and perverse doesn't concern me."
"The whole 'pure and untainted heart of a maiden' thing you were talking about earlier?" Naruto asked.
"Yep," Serafall claimed, and it didn't appear she was going to elaborate. She had started eating her banana split with strawberry syrup, and seemed focused entirely on the sweet treat.
It actually made Naruto chuckle. He hated magical girls, and Itsuko basically had to force him to watch those shows. Serafall actually pulled it off better than anyone Naruto had seen before though. She was telling the truth. She really didn't care that the outfits were so revealing. Just that they were cute. Most of the times when a girl wore something like that it was purposeful. Not with Serafall though. She seemed to lack a traditional sense of modesty, so the revealing nature of the outfit was totally irrelevant to her. It was certainly different.
It also made a rather potent combination. Serafall was incredibly beautiful on her own. The outfit was cute, but on Serafall's figure it also became downright sexy. Combine that all with the innocence of a girl who apparently hadn't even been kissed before Naruto's actions earlier. Being beautiful cute, sexy, and innocent was just unfair.
Naruto was thankfully brought out of his hormone filled thoughts by Serafall speaking up. Taking another bite, she suddenly asked, "So why did you kiss Sona and me?"
Naruto raised an eyebrow before countering, "You are asking about that now?"
"Yep," Serafall said cheerfully, her mouth full of ice cream. Swallowing it, she explained cheerfully, "Now that you fulfilled your promise of buying me ice cream, I've forgiven you for it. I want to learn just why you did it though before I choose to forget about it."
Naruto got that, so he told her simply, "I wanted to mess with Souna."
"Sona? Why?"
"Revenge," Naruto answered before explaining further at Serafall's confused look, "Several days ago Souna set a mob of students on me, and I was forced to dive through a window."
"You jumped through a window," Serafall exclaimed with a smile, immediately gesturing as she continued, "That must have been so cool! Like in the movies!"
"It was definitely not like how it goes in the movies," Naruto immediately told her. Rolling up his right sleeve, he showed her the scar that was present as he explained, "I was cut up so bad I missed school the next day, and I also have this little memento to remember the incident by. I'm just lucky that I heal fast, or it would have been much worse. Overall I was rather pissed about the whole incident, and at least partially blamed Souna. While it wasn't meant to be anything sinister or too serious, I really had to get Souna back. When I saw the way she was flustered by your presence, I figured…'Hey, why not throw a bit of fuel on that fire?' Hence, the kissing."
"So I was just caught in the crossfire?" Serafall asked, sounding a bit peeved.
"Kinda, yeah," Naruto admitted frankly.
Serafall's reaction was swift. Using her spoon, she flung a bit of her ice cream into Naruto's face. She exclaimed in a whine, "That's not fair! What a stupid way to lose my first kiss!"
Naruto took a moment before replying. He used that time to pick up a napkin and clean of his face. Especially his eye, which was stinging due to the strawberry syrup that got into it. He then replied unsurely, "Uhg…Sorry?"
"…Okay," Serafall answered after a moment's pause, her feelings of indignation and displeasure disappearing so fast it made her seem bipolar. She just one again started eagerly eating her treat. It made Naruto rather exasperated, but he wasn't going to complain. Although Serafall did stop for a moment to ask, "Why me though? If you were trying to get back at Sona, why did you kiss me first?"
"I was just flying by the seat of my pants. It turned out well, but I didn't exactly have a plan going in. I just knew I had to do something," Naruto claimed, although it was something of a lie. He didn't know why he had kissed Serafall, but he had gone in with something of a plan. He had intended to kiss Souna when he had stepped forward, but his body had seemingly ran on autopilot to kiss Serafall instead. An on the spot decision, that he hadn't even realized he had made at the time.
"What a great first kiss story. This guy I didn't know randomly stole my first kiss to get back at my little sister," Serafall grumbled sullenly, her banana split unfortunately all gone and thus unable to be used as a distraction.
Naruto just sweat dropped before repeating, "I'm sorry."
"Oh well. Most people would say it was about time I lost my first kiss anyways," Serafall commented neutrally, standing up. She then moved closer to Naruto as she told him genially, "I guess it is time to forgive and forget now. You bought me ice cream, and this was actually one of the more entertaining conversations I've had with a person in a while."
"…Really?" Naruto asked incredulously. They had an argument and short wrestling match about magical girls, talked about her outfit, and then had an explanation about the kissing incident. If that was what she considered entertaining then she must have a rather boring life…Although Naruto had to admit he also had a good time. It was different from the standard conversations Naruto usually had.
Wait…Doesn't that say something about his life as well?
Deciding to just shove that thought to the back of his mind, Naruto looked back at Serafall and said, "I'm glad you had a good time then, Sera-chan. I did too."
"We should do it again soon," Serafall suggested, surprising Naruto. He didn't get a chance to respond though before Serafall walked away while saying, "Unfortunately, my free time is up. I've got business to take care of. See you later, Naru-chan."
Naruto just watched her leave, caught off guard by the way she addressed him. He recovered once she disappeared though, and stood up. He blinked in surprise though when he didn't feel the expected surge of pain. He had been dreading the walk home due to his leg, but something was wrong. Naruto put more weight on his injured leg, but it still held. Naruto finally bent down and felt the area Serafall had kicked earlier.
It was fine.
Naruto was baffled by his find. His shin had definitely been cracked, there was no disputing that. Yet it was totally fine now. Naruto healed fast, but not that fast. It had taken two nights to heal from the cuts he garnered by diving through the window. A cracked bone should take just as long to heal. Certainly more than an hour.
Naruto suddenly remembered how Serafall had been holding his leg while they were wrestling. That was the only time anything had been touching his leg. If it hadn't healed naturally, that was the only time something could have been done to it…Did Serafall seriously just heal his leg? That was the only possible reason Naruto could come up with.
That just opened up a whole new can of issues though. Naruto had figured there had to be something beyond the ordinary world he lived in due to the power level system. Healing broken bones was outright magic though. The existence of magic would be a total world changer, if that was indeed the case.
Wait a second…magic…a girl…a magical girl outfit…a girl wearing a magical girl outfit and wielding magic…Was Serafall a legit magical girl?! It did actually fit disturbingly well. The student council and ORC were almost entirely female. The only exception, Yuuto Kiba, also fit the typical handsome, but nonthreatening, male that usually appeared in those shows. Man, it really did fit.
God, Naruto hoped he was wrong and just imagining things. He did not like those shows. It would be totally messed up if he found himself in a magical girl world.
Oh well, no choice but to wait and see. He'd likely end up confronted by the ORC or Student Council in a few weeks anyways. Might as well wait and see, not to mention use that time to hopefully find more clues that might explain the situation.
Starting to walk home on his mysteriously healed leg, Naruto slowed when he had the sudden desire to pull out the journal. Naruto did so. He then opened it randomly, sure that the game would automatically open it to the page it likely wanted him to look at. Naruto found it opened to the 'Other' tab of the Media section. It was a duel page between Souna and Serafall.
Special Picture unlocked due to requirement 'Make Serafall and Souna Kiss' being achieved.
Naruto damn near fainted when he saw the new picture. Sure, he had seen the two kiss earlier, multiple times, but those had been relatively chaste kisses. This picture was not so. Serafall and Souna were locking lips in the picture, in a risqué and sensual manner. The two also appeared topless, although the way the two were intimately hugging ensured that everything important was covered. It was simultaneously revealing and censored.
Naruto could hear the laugh of the Gamemaster as he admired the picture, but he really couldn't find it in him to care.
Man, what a day. He decided to wait for the ORC to make the first move, he kissed two beautiful girls multiple times in front of a crowd of students, he ate ice cream and became friends with one of said girls, and he finally got a sexy picture. Damn good day!
There it is. Not as far as this chapter was planned to be, but still quite a bit. This chapter was clearly focused around meeting new people and Naruto starting to see the conspiracy around ORC and the student council.
Souna Name: I'm sure many of you noticed that I switched between 'Sona' and 'Souna' a lot. That is because Sona uses the pseudonym Souna Shitori in school, so that is what Naruto knows her as. I originally was doing it to show how little Naruto really knows about her, but during the talk with Serafall it really got kind of awkward switching. Tell me if you readers think I should just go and edit it so only 'Sona' is used.
Serafall: Serafall is one of my favorite characters, and so I decided to have her play a larger role. She still won't be a 'main' character, but she will make far more appearances than in canon. Next chapter especially she'll play a larger role, and I'll also flesh out her character.
ORC and Student Council: So Naruto finally stumbles upon the devil community at Kuoh. Several of you mentioned that Naruto should have noticed them by now, but this chapter shows they've been doing some stuff as well. After all, Naruto's change in behavior would have caught their attention. Sorry for those of you who wanted Naruto to confront them immediately, but the plan from the beginning has been for something else to happen. Spoiler Alert! Naruto will become a devil. The entire story is based around the devils, so I feel it is necessary. I will however make it happen in as unique a way as possible. Sorry to those of you who wanted something totally different from the norm. I'm not an author that carves out entirely new paths, I just try to put new twists on old ideas.
