This is a Re-written Story I made back in 2008/2009. I wanted to make a new version (and finish it) of the same concept to see how much I have improved, in both writing and story telling. The original (and rubbish) story can still be found in my profile as I figured it would be fun to compare the old with the new. in fact the way this is going the story will end up very diff rent as well.

I Have dyslexia therefore please mind spelling and grammar errors. If anyone is happy to become my editor and review/correct my mistakes before I publish future chapters please let me know!

Disclaimer: I don't own any of the characters etc they belong to their respective owners. This is set during the Order of the Phoenix because that seemed to work best.

Please rate and review.

Chapter one Eventful Night.

Darren Looked up at the tall outline of the daunting looking castle that was enveloped by shadows. They where walking up a hill on the grounds of the castle, Darren felt unease, it was the early hours of the morning, about four or five and he was glad that they had gotten to this place; Hogwarts in time before the sun had rose, because this meant it was the first time in weeks he would be able to sleep in a soft bed. Darren turned to face Larten Crepsley; a tall man with ruffled orange hair, dressed all in crimson red and black clothing, his cape was frayed and dirt covered this sandals and trousers from the long journey. Next to him walked a strange muscular man with dirty green hair, sunburnt skin and dressed in a mismatch array of animal skins and mud.

Darren grinned at the odd-ball pair as he brushed down his shirt, they had meant to look more presentable than this but they hadn't got the chance.

"So this is it then...hogwarts...so why do I have to attend again?" asked Darren looking back at the castle a shiver of excitement, fear and wonder overcame him -for this was no ordinary school this was a magical school to teach witches and wizards.

"We have been over this Darren, Do you not listen to a word I say? You my young Vampire prince, are to attend this school becasuse we need to form an alliance with the wizarding world. We need all the help we can get to go against the Vampaneze, we went into detail with you before...We will be helping them with their great foe and they in return will help us." snapped Mr Crepsley grumpily as he was worn out and tired of his assistant asking the same question again.

"I know! I know! no need to get you knickers in a twist old man," smirked Darren as he ducked as Mr Crepsley gave a half hearted swipe at him; "Anyway I just want to make sure I know what is going to happen, to have to act as a Human and act like I can do magic even though I know nothing about it...it is going to be pretty hard." Darren sighs.

"I am sure you will be just fine. I mean you had me fooled that you where a bumbling idiot when we first met" replied a smiling Mr Crepsley, who was trying to put his assistant at ease. Darren Pulled a funny face knowing full well Mr Crepsley was winding him up.

"I have the purge to deal with as well, I had my first part of it a while back, who knows when it will strike again."

The purge is when a half vampire like Darren becomes a full vampire -many changes happens to the body, such as drastic growing, maturing and cells change so that they can no longer tolerate the sunlight for long. It is like puberty for vampires. It can some in spurts and will occur naturally or can be brought on by adding more vampire blood to the half-vampire's body.

"look! I can spot some people by the main entrance gate! I presume they are here for us... Should we give them a little scare?" said Vancha grinning, looking rather mischievous.

"You are a vampire prince, do what ever you want." replied Mr Crepsley with a sly grin. Vancha nodded and sped off at break neck speed towards the distant figures, keeping to the darkest shadows as best he could. Mr Crepsley shook his head and he and Darren continued walking towards the figures at a brisk pace.

When Vancha reached the three teachers, he slunk behind a pillar in the courtyard and circled around them, He then spotted his target and then Jumped! He got behind a pale, dark greasy haired, hooked nosed man, dressed in black robes and placed his hands carefully around his neck his sharp nails digging in slightly.

"boo!" Vancha whispered in the man's ear. The man yelled in surprise and grabbed for his wand in a panic, tearing at his robes in a panic to get it.

"If you will please, release Professor Snape, Sir" Said a old wizard with long silver hair and beard. This wizard was calm and didn't even seem that surprised at the new visitors sudden appearance He simply smiled as he pushed up his half-moon glasses. Vancha leaned close to Snape's ear and whispered something before letting him go, Snape whipped around to face Vancha with a furious look on his face.

"Ah! this must be young master Shan," said the old Wizard before Snape could unleash his furry on Vancha. Darren and Mr Crepsley approached the group with Darren trying his best to hide a yawn in the process.

"Greetings to the young Prince, and his teacher, I am Professor Dumbledore, Pray tell me who is this other...gentleman you have decided to bring with you? We assumed only two of you where coming."

"Names March, Vancha March and I will be your other Vampire Prince for this night" Grinned Vancha as he crossed his arms; "See though Darren here may be a fellow prince, this is a very important alliance and I figured it would be best if a Leader with more experience in matters should come and make sure everything goes over smoothly. Larten is a good and wise vampire, but he has no powers within our society so if anything goes wrong politicly he can not act on our behalf, and Darren knowledge is somewhat limited..."

Darren looked dumbfounded at the prince. He'd never seen him really act serious, but Vancha was chosen as a prince for good reason and apparently was smarter than he often acted. Darren wondered if Paris the oldest prince had been teaching him a lesson or two.

They all followed in silence as Dumbledore led them though the castle, it like a maze and all three vampires walked in silent wonder as they glanced around them. The achutecture was an amazing combination of old Gothic and ancient stonework. The doors mostly made of dark wood, the cealings towered high above them, and the stair cases themselves moved when-ever they felt like it. Darren Gawked at a painting of an old man as it moved and smiled at him.

Darren glanced ahead, the three teachers where talking to each other. He only just noticed the third one who had not spoke to them yet was in-fact an older woman with a tight bun of hair, very elegant cloak and very stern wrinkled face.

They all stopped once they stood out a large gargoyle statue, which sprung open when a password was given to it, the passage behind it led to a set of spiral staircases and into ta large office. Darren, Larten and Vancha where offered seats, in which Darren and Larten happily took, with Vancha opting to sit cross-legged on the floor instead. Darren marvelled at the room. The finishings where made of old wood and the shelves adorned with all sorts of strange and magical items. The air in the room was sweet from an incense burning on a window ledge and yet more of the strange moving paintings adorned the walls.

Dumbledoor sat behind his desk and spoke "Let me Introduce You to my two collogues here; this is Professor Minerva McGonagall," he gestured towards the woman who was sat in her seat legs crossed and her posture tight and formal. "And this is Professor Severus Snape." he nodded towards Snape who still stood near the doorway, his wand gripped in his hand by his side and his face glum.

There was a moments silence then Mr Crepsley replied; "I am Larten Crepsley Darren's guardian, this is Prince; Darren Shan and Prince; Vancha March who has already introduced himself" Larten looked firmly at Dumbledore as he spoke.

"So I believe you wish us to have Mr Shan here to be taught as an ordinary pupil as a sign of peace between us and the Vampires? This way we hopefuly learn from each other as a result, and perhaps even work together against our darkest foes." said Dumbledore his chin resting on his hand and his eyes twinkling.

"Yes well that is the plan, We wish not to gain a new enemy, but we are all in need of friends." said larten nodding.

"I think it is a great idea! We both have great enemies right now and we need to unite in this darkest hour." Stated Dumbledore.

Darren look up he hadn't really been listing until now and was half falling asleep as it had been a very long trip from Vampire Mountain. Larten smacked him on the arm and growled at him to wake up and pay attention.

"What do you know of our foe?" Interrupted Vancha

"I know of the Vampaneze, I know how they divided away from the vampires hundreds of years ago, and I two have heard of the rumours of the Vampaneze lord, in fact there was a prophecy about it...Anyway for now let us start one step at a time."

Vancha and Larten both tensed up at the word 'prophecy' and gave each other confused glances.

"Well I trust you all got the equipment I got for you Darren?" asked Professor McGonagall speaking for the first time. Darren nodded Unsure what to say, still blown away with all that was going on.

"I thought only one person was going to be the guardian of Mr Shan whilst he was settling in. So whats the plan now?" said Snape glaring at them.

"I will only be staying a few weeks, to make sure it all goes well." Replied Vancha rubbing his smelly, shoeless feet.

"So I gather that Darren is able to move freely in daylight, being a half-vampire but you sirs are not?" asked Dumbledore. Mr Crepsely nodded stiffly.

"Then you will be sleeping in one of the unused dungeons during the day and Darren will sleep in the dormitories like every other student. If it helps we have some quite comfy looking coffins you may use." Dumbledore smiled before continuing; "Remember this; all normal school rules apply to Darren and no one other than those in this room will know he is a half-vampire. For you Mr Crepsley and Prince March, I hope you understand when I say you are free to move around Hogwarts at night but are not allowed to show yourself to any of the students." Dumbledore spoke with command and a firmness in his voice that surprised even McGonagall.

"Very well then. We will not harm or speak any of your students, we wish to have as little to do with them as we can. We are creatures of our word." Stated Larten, Vancha and Darren merely Nodded in agreement.

"So eh, I amuse I will be put into a student 'house' then?" Darren guessed.

"That's not the important thing, you said you would provide us with blood if we agreed not to harm the students here right?" interrupted Vancha suddenly.

"Yes that is correct. You will receive donated blood on a regular basis, and of course any food you wish from out extensive kitchens." Stated Snape, grumpily.

" Yes Darren, You will start in year five as you look around 15 and as for what house you will be in we shall find out now, Severus will you get the sorting hat please." Dumbledore had continued like nothing happened.

Snape moved around Darren and Mr Crepsley to get the sorting hat of a shelf. He kept his burning dark eyes in their direction, Darren sifted uncomfortably moving his long dark hair out of his slightly pale face and rubbed one of the several scars on his face, he quickly stopped as he realised he was acting like Mr Crepsley, who often rubbed the scar on his left cheek when thinking. Snape picked up the old dusty looking hat and placed it onto the desk before returning the the place where he stood before.

"What does the hat do?" Blurted out Darren before anyone could speak.

"Place the hat on your head and it will sort you out into one of the four houses; Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff." replied Dumbledore. Darren sighed and placed the hat on his head, for a moment nothing happened but then the hat spoke; "Gryffindor."

"Very well then Professor McGonagall will take you to the Gryffindor common room. Professor Snape Please take our two other guests to the dungeons, I feel they could all do with a good nights rest. Darren; Lessons start on Monday so you have tomorrow to rest up, you will be given a lesson planner tomorrow, and some school robes. For now I believe we could all do with a good sleep, after such an eventful night." Dumbledore yawned a little as he spoke and kindly wished them goodnight as they filed out of the room.
