Universe: Big Hero 6
Summary: Hiro wasn't known for his steady sleeping habits, because, well, he didn't have any. Baymax now has the job of getting the teenager to sleep once in a while.
Note: I am trying to write a second chapter for 'Brothers' Defense' but for some reason it's harder than writing new stories. So here's a short, nice fic while I try to get my brain in gear to finish that first story... Thanks for reading.
Hiro wasn't a teenager who indulged in sleeping. Never in his life, unless he was really sick, had he ever voluntarily stayed in bed passed a few hours shut-eye. Even Tadashi had had limited control over his little brother's erratic sleeping patterns.
Now Baymax was in charge of the teen, he was as insistent as the older Hamada had been.
"Hiro. It is one a.m. It is time to sleep."
Without spinning his chair around to face the robot or even looking away from his work on the desk, Hiro replied, "Nope," and helped himself to some more gummy bears from the packet on the desk.
Baymax toddled around the chair to stare at Hiro side-on. "You have to be up for school in 6 hours," he stated, as if the kid wasn't aware that it was wednesday, a weekday, and so was required to be in school.
Hiro just rolled his eyes and didn't bother to reply.
"Staying up this late can cause sleep deprivation, which can result in dizziness and-" Baymax tried to inform his patient, but Hiro cut him off.
"I get it, Baymax, I just gotta finish this," he interrupted impatiently, sparing the robot a glance before turning back to his work. Baymax waited exactly five minutes in silence as Hiro scratched away with his pen almost feverishly.
"Hiro," the nursebot began again, "it is time to sleep. You body is exhausted. Your neurotransmitter levels are low, stopping you from thinking clearly. You are tired and the best treatment for that is to sleep."
Sighing, the teen focused more on his work, continuing to ignore his guardian.
"I can contact your friends."
"No need," Hiro muttered in reply.
"Honey Lemon would tell you to go to bed."
"Well she's not here."
"GoGo would not be pleased about you staying up all night."
"She's not here either."
"Fred would tell you to get some rest."
"He hasn't right now."
"I will ask Wasabi to persuade you to sleep."
"He'll be dead to world."
"I will get Aunt Cass."
At that, Hiro snapped his head up and finally stared at his robot. "You wouldn't..." he replied uncertainly.
Sensing he had found a way of making his charge get needed rest, the intelligent nursebot carefully filed Hiro's reaction to the statement about his aunt for future use, if needed again.
"It is time to sleep, and Aunt Cass knows this," Baymax pointed out. "I am sure if I went and got her she would insist you go to bed and sleep."
Hiro narrowed his eyes at the innocent looking robot, who blinked back at him, bemused. In honesty, he was quite tired, having had less than ten hours' sleep in the past week, despite Baymax's repeated points about rest.
Seeing the fight go out of his charge, Baymax easily scooped his patient up, ignoring spluttered protests, and bodily put him on his bed.
"Time to sleep. Would you like me to read you a story or have a lullaby?"
Hiro stared at Baymax for a moment incredulously. "Please don't," he stated forcefully, and scrambled under the covers, yawning.
"Goodnight, Hiro. I am here if you need me," Baymax told the kid comfortingly.
"Thanks, buddy. I am satisfied with my care." Hiro smiled at the nursebot as Baymax patted his head and walked over to the charging station.
The robot took one last look over his charge before, satisfied Hiro was stable both physically and emotionally, Baymax deactivated. Hiro was safe with his guardian there.
