Forgotten Sky

Ummm, hi there! I'm relatively new to the site and this is my first fic so I would appreciate any feedback or tips you could give me to improve my writing. Constructive criticism would be a great help too. Anyway, I hope you enjoy!

Target 1: A New Enemy

Summer Vacation.

All teenagers love that phrase and would be happy to hear it, and Tsuna was one of them. But, ever since summer vacation started he's been nothing but bored. Which wouldn't have been a problem before. Yes, before. Before when he was no one. When he was Dame-Tsuna, the useless, friendless, loner with a less than stellar life. Before Reborn, before his friends, before his life really began. But now that he was used to all the chaos, he was sort of missing it now that it was gone (he weeps for his lost sanity).

Why was it gone you ask? Reborn was in Italy with Nono, Gokudera, Bianchi and Lambo were also in Italy visiting their respective families, Ryohei and Yamamoto were both busy training for their clubs, I-pin was visiting Fon in China, Hibari wasn't even on his list of people to look for, Chrome and Mukuro were nowhere to be seen, Enma and his guardians had gone back to their old town, he didn't even want to think about Byakuran, and Shoichi and Spanner were at a convention out of town. Fuuta, Haru and Kyoko were the only ones left from his normal (can chaos be called normal?) routine and they had all gone to the amusement park for the day. Not even his mother was home, off on some date with his father.

And here Tsuna was, alone... and bored. He really should've taken up Kyoko's invitation...

So, to stave off his boredom, he decided to go for a walk. Except, walking around a small town like Namimori wasn't exactly the most interesting thing in the world. Glancing around the almost non-existent scenery, Tsuna found himself thinking of all the things that he had been through the previous years. All the battles fought, the victories, the losses, the struggles, hardships and tears. All the friends he gained, the fun he had and the laughter he shared. That was his life now... crazy beyond reason but, now that he really thought about it, he wouldn't change it for the world... or maybe it was the boredom talking... yeah, that could be it...

"Eh...?" Coming out of his thoughts, Tsuna found that he had inadvertently wondered into the nearby forest. And to top it off, it was starting to get dark out. Tsuna started sweating a little, he hadn't realized he'd walked so far! Hiie, what if I get lost and starve to death or something?! Tsuna panicked inwardly as he looked around. No, that would be bad! Reborn would probably find some way to bring me back and torture me, hiiiiiieeee! Tsuna, realizing where his thoughts had drifted, sweat-dropped. He was more afraid of Reborn than he was of dying. He chuckled (Tsuna will forever deny that he giggles) a little, calming down now that his racing thoughts seemed to slow. Or, not...

SNAP

"Hiiiieeee!" His signature shriek came out before he could stop it, but he quickly clamped his hands over his mouth. He looked around wildly for the source of the sound, his fear for his life renewed. But Tsuna found nothing, except for a slight ringing in his ears. He startled to settle a little bit, before...

CRACK

Tsuna jumped violently at the sound, whirling around to where he thought it came from. He couldn't see anything, but that meant nothing to him. He had far too much experience with illusions and what-not to believe that nothing was there just because he couldn't see it. After a short period of silence he began to move forward. Don't go towards the creepy sounds in the middle of the dark forest, Tsuna... he thought to himself as he crept onwards, carefully weaving around tree branches, roots, rocks, and anything else that could make him fall flat on his face. He inwardly lamented his clumsy nature and tendency to trip over air.

Not tripping was made increasingly hard considering all the strange noises had him jumpy, not to mention the fact that he was lost in the middle of a dark, creepy forest. And then there was that annoying ringing sound that kept on getting louder the further he went. Tsuna realized with a start that it was his Hyper Intuition warning him of a potential threat. His breath hitched at the realization before an alarmingly loud POP was heard nearby. He barely contained a shriek as he faced the direction the sound had come from, he had finally found what he was looking for.

Tsuna quickly hid behind a convenient boulder nearby, before peeking his head out to get a good look at what he had found. In a small clearing just beyond the boulder he could see it... it was a person! Tsuna couldn't be sure if they were male or female because they had a raggedy floor-length robe on. But what he could be sure of was that the sound was definitely coming from them. Tsuna shuddered as he watched with morbid fascination as the person held their arms out in front of them, creating some strange energy in the surrounding air. Tsuna decided that it looked a little bit like black lightning flames, except it was far more ominous and controlled, letting out short jagged bursts instead of continuous crackles.

Tsuna bit his lip, trying to calm his nerves among other things. He could feel the hairs on his arms standing on end, his whole body was tense. Here he was, alone, late afternoon, middle of the forest, staring at an unknown person with unknown power, alone. In short, he was screwed. He started backing away slowly, trying not to make a sound as he retreated when suddenly he heard a low rumble. He froze and looked around frantically before realizing that this sound was also coming from the strange person in front of him. It was also getting louder. Tsuna covered his ears, the rumbling becoming deafening as the black lightning started coming in quicker bursts, before becoming semi-permanent streaks in the air before him.

There was a bright flash and a sickeningly loud CRACK echoed throughout the clearing. Tsuna couldn't quite help it as he cried out and fell away from his hiding spot, inadvertently drawing the person's attention to him. Tsuna froze as he realized his mistake. Bad, bad, bad, bad, bad was all Tsuna could think as he stared at the person before him, the person staring back. But he couldn't focus on the person for long as his attention was attracted to a growing hole in the air behind them. For that was all Tsuna could describe it as, a big, black hole. Although if he looked for long enough he could see that it wasn't just black, there were some very deep purples, reds, blues and greens in there as well.

That was all he could note, though, as the stranger started moving towards him. He shrieked and scrambled to his feet, fully intending to run. But that was as far as he made it as the strangers hand shot forwards, releasing more of that black lightning. Tsuna barely managed to scramble out of the way before it hit the air next to him, only inches away. His escape was only temporary, however, as tendrils of lightning shot at him from the first bolt.

He managed to evade the first few, but there was no reprieve. As they kept coming in a continuous attack, Tsuna was caught. First a hand, then a foot, to slow his movements. Then slowly, so slowly, they made their way around his entire body. Snapping and crackling was all he could hear as pain ripped through his body at their touch.

He could barely think straight with all the pain ripping through his body, but he had to concentrate. Now was not the time to lose himself to pain or fear, he had to get his Dying Will pills! He didn't get the chance though, as the stranger started pulling him forward using the black lightning like a rope. A rope that held Tsuna in the air! Tsuna struggled against the power binding him, desperately trying to get his pills and escape. But it was no use, it was too strong and Tsuna was already in front of the strange person.

The pain eased slightly, allowing Tsuna to get a good look at the person in front of him (and try to wriggle his hand into his pocket inconspicuously). Tsuna was fairly sure now that is was a man, judging by the facial structure and build anyway. He still couldn't see much, the hood of the cloak leaving the man's face in shadow. But that didn't quite cover the ear-splitting grin the man wore. Tsuna gulped, this person was clearly insane. Even more so than Byakuran (used to be) or Bel.

Tsuna didn't get much time to reflect on it as the man suddenly burst into maniacal laughter and threw him into the gaping hole. Tsuna shrieked as he collided with the strange thing, which - now that he was closer - actually looked more like a tear. Almost like something (or more likely someone) had ripped a hole in the surrounding space. But that really didn't matter, not now that he was getting sucked into it.

Tsuna shrieked again, trying in vain to get out, to get away from the hole. He struggled and struggled, but he was still getting sucked in. Until finally, he was swallowed. He realized with horror that the darkness was pressing against his body. He couldn't move, couldn't breathe.

Falling.

He was sinking further and further into the hole.

Darkness.

All around, he could see nothing but black.

Pain.

It felt like his body was being ripped apart.

Can't breathe.

His lungs were on fire, desperate for the oxygen his body needed.

Regret.

Would he ever see his friends again?

Regret...

How could he be so weak?

Regret...

He couldn't protect anybody like this...

Regret...

No! He had to protect them!

Regret... Dying Will... Resolve... Protect!

He couldn't die, he wouldn't die. He had to fight! He had to protect them!

"Then fight! Fight with your Dying Will!"

Orange eyes snapped open as a strong flame danced on his forehead. Tsuna wasn't exactly sure how he was supposed to get out of this thing, so he just did what felt right. All I can do is try it, he thought as he gathered his flames around himself, building it up into a cocoon. He felt the crushing weight lift, but he still couldn't breathe. Tsuna knew he wouldn't last long without air, even now his vision was starting to blur. He had to move fast!

Without wasting another second, Tsuna condensed his flames and pulled them as close to his body as he could, then... he pushed them out all at once, creating a shockwave of Sky Flames bursting outwards. He could feel the very air around him vibrating, the sensation was horrible. Almost like his entire body was going to be torn apart, which was actually possible given his situation.

Tsuna could feel his consciousness fading with each passing second, had he failed? No, he could feel the vibrations letting up. But the pain racking his body didn't. He fought to stay conscious as the air around him seemed to shatter, before finally stabilizing. Without his flames to support him he dropped out of the air. Tsuna cried out in pain as he hit the ground with a dull thud. The last thing saw was the sky losing its last light before everything went black.

AN: So how was it? Good, bad, weird? I don't have a Beta and I'm not entirely sure how the whole thing works so... yeah, any mistakes in grammar, spelling or anything?
