Chapter 1: Past Life

Puck sighed to himself as he worked on the engine of one of the cars in the garage. While he had to admit working at Finn's stepdad's tire shop was easy and he was good at it but it didn't mean he enjoyed it. Sometimes he just didn't feel like working but he knew that if he didn't, he wouldn't be able to afford his apartment. And the last thing he wanted was to have to go back to living with his mom and Sara.

"Hey when you finish with that car, we can go to lunch," Finn told him as he walked passed.

Puck nodded and tried to work faster. He normally kept himself busy and worked from car to car as soon as he got there. It helped make his day go by faster because as soon as he walked into the garage he just wanted to walk back out. This wasn't what he imagined doing with his life but he didn't know what else he should be doing. At twenty-one, he had no idea what he wanted out of his life.

When he finished the car, Puck went to eat his sandwich with Finn. Finn looked at him. "So Burt thinks you deserve a raise. He says you work hard enough and get a lot of work done so it's only fair."

"That's awesome. I'm in the mood for a little celebration tonight. What do you say? We can call the guys and go out."

Finn looked at him, confused. "Didn't you promise your mom you'd have dinner with her, her new boyfriend and Sara?"

"I think I'll take a rain check. The last thing I want right now is to meet another douchebag who thinks he's good enough for her."

"Aren't you a little old for the whole 'I hate Mom's boyfriend' thing?" Finn smirked. "I figured this would come from Sara but not you."

Puck glared at him. "Shut up. I just think that my mom could do better than someone she met at the grocery store. When the guy ends up being a freeloader just like all the others she'll wish she listened to me. So are we going out or what?"

Realizing Puck really wasn't going to have dinner with his family, Finn sighed and nodded. "Yeah I guess we are."

Later on that night while Puck got ready for his night out, his thoughts drifted to his mom. It wasn't like he didn't want her to be with someone and be happy but she had a habit of picking men who were just like his father. He could spot it as soon as he saw them and it frustrated him that his mom couldn't do the same. That's why he just needed a night out to forget all about it.

When he and the boys got to bar, they immediately went to get a drink. Sam smirked as he watched girls walk pass them. "Don't you just love when women come here with practically nothing on?"

The guys laughed at his enthusiasm as Puck shook his head and took a sip of his drink. When they first graduated high school, Puck wasn't too concerned about staying friends with Sam, Finn or Mike but he knew that he needed friends and they were as good as he was going to get.

While he drank his beer, he and the boys noticed a girl who eyeing him from the dancefloor. Mike looked at him. "I guess you have an admirer. Are you going to say hi?"

Puck drank the rest of his drink before putting it down. "Of course I am. Wouldn't want to be rude." The guys laughed as Puck went over to the girl and gave her his famous smirk. "Hey. Name's Puck."

The girl giggled. "That's cute. I'm Lauren."

"Nice to meet you Lauren. Care for a dance?" he asked. She nodded and they began to dance.

While they were dancing, Puck could feel himself getting turned on. Lauren was looking up at him intensely and he couldn't help but feel the front of his pants get tighter as they grinded. The combination of alcohol and the sexual tension between them caused Puck to lean down and kiss her. As soon as their lips met, that's when he knew that she'd be the girl who he was taking back to his apartment for the night.

The next morning, Puck woke up to the sound of knocks on his door. He looked and saw that Lauren was still asleep next to him before silently groaning and getting up. After putting on pants, he went and opened the door to see his mom and Sara standing there.

"What are you guys doing here?" he asked, rubbing his eyes.

"Good morning to you too Noah," Maria frowned before walking inside. "We were out running errands and I figured that we should stop by to make sure you're still alive."

"Why wouldn't I be?"

"You missed dinner last night," Sara answered. "Mom said you'd better have been dying."

He sighed. "Look I'm sorry but I wasn't interested in meeting your next freeloader. I had better things to do."

"That better thing being?" Maria asked.

Sara smirked as she picked up a red bra. "I think I know the answer to that."

Maria turned to Puck, clearly furious with him. "Seriously? You're back to that lifestyle?"

"What lifestyle?" he asked, confused.

"The one where you lose all common sense and just sleep around with different women. I thought I taught you to value yourself better than that. What type of example are you setting for your sister?"

He smirked. "I'm teaching her that sometimes a one night stand can be a blast."

Sara laughed but when Maria looked at her, she immediately stopped. Maria turned to Puck. "Well I also stopped by because I thought you'd want this."

She handed him a fancy envelope and he frowned in confusion. "What is this?"

"It's from Daniel…in Mercier," she answered quietly.

"I don't want it," he replied, handing the envelope back to her before going to the kitchen to get something to drink.

"What is it?" Sara asked, trying to look at it.

Maria turned to her. "Do you remember Rachel? The girl who came to stay with us when you were younger?"

"Oh yeah. What ever happened to her?"

"She left," Puck quickly answered. "She left us behind so just forget about her."

Maria frowned and walked over to him. "Noah you know that is not true. She had responsibilities."

"I don't want to hear it Mom. As far as I'm concerned, she's part of my past that I don't want to go back to. She forgot about me so I'm forgetting about her."

"Clearly she didn't forget about you if they're inviting you to her coronation."

Puck frowned. He remembered before things changed with Rachel, they talked about her coronation and how it was going to be such a big deal. "That's great and everything but the last thing I'm doing is paying to get on a plane to go to a coronation for my ex."

"Everything's already paid for. Daniel even included tickets for Sara and I to come along since school's almost out for the summer."

"That's great. You two can go and tell me how it is because I'm not going. Tell everyone I said hi."

Before Maria could respond, Lauren walked out of the bedroom with Puck's shirt on. "Oh you have company. Hi I'm Lauren."

Sara held in her laughter as she watched Maria become baffled and lost for words while Puck shook his head at Lauren. "Not a good time."

Suddenly understanding the situation, Lauren nodded and went back inside the bedroom as Maria turned to Puck. "Please tell me you're at least being safe with these women."

He groaned. "Yes of course Mom."

"Sara I think we should go so your brother can show his guest out," she said they started to leave. Before she walked out, she turned to him. "Please consider going to the coronation. I think it will be good for you."

Knowing that his mom wasn't going to give, Puck sighed and nodded. "Yes I will think about it."

Maria gave him an encouraging smile before leaving with Sara as Puck closed the door behind them. Lauren walked out but when she noticed that Puck's mind seemed to be somewhere else, she got dressed and left her number before leaving him to his thoughts.

Puck sighed to himself as he sat down on the couch. He couldn't believe he had been invited to the coronation. For the past five years, he had been doing everything he could to forget Rachel ever existed. After everything that happened, Puck wanted nothing more than to pretend that she had never come into his life. Now memories of her are flooding back to him and all Puck wanted was to make them go away. There was no way he was going to that coronation. His life was fine without Rachel and he would prefer to keep it that way.

Sorry it's short but it's a start. What do you think happened between Puck and Rachel? Let me know your thoughts. Bye for now :)
