# L. B White From Blackhaven To Shorewick 03/02/15

# Chapter 1: The Beginning Once, in the quaint countryside of Blackhaven, there was a warren named Blackhaven Warren. And in this warren was a rabbit named Ruby; Ruby lived with her mate Shadow. One night, Ruby gave birth to two kits, a doe and a buck. Shadow named the buck Ridfern and Ruby named the doe Daisy; and on that night, Shadow and Ruby knew little of the wonders their young would one day achieve.

The next morning, Ruby laid feeding Daisy and Ridfern; Shadow was mysteriously absent from their burrow but this seemed not to bother Ruby, who was quite feeling quite content with her new children. At that moment, Violet, a friend of Ruby's, entered the burrow and laid next to her. Violet gazed at the two kits. "They're very healthy, what are their names?" she said. Her voice was soft and soothing. Ruby glanced at Violet and then back at her kits. "The doe is named Daisy and the buck is named Ridfern." she replied in the same calm and soft tone. Violet, laying still, looked around for Shadow but knew he was not present. "Where is Shadow? I thought he of all people would want to be here." she said. Ruby did not look away from Daisy and Ridfern and was not showing any signs of concern. "He's not here." she replied. Violet was obviously puzzled by Ruby's lack of care. "But he's still in the warren?" she asked, tilting her head slightly.

"Not anymore." Ruby said calmly while still watching her two children. Violet was alarmed by the news but tried to keep her voice down. "What? Well, where did he go?" she said in a shocked whisper. Ruby looked directly at Violet. "I don't know but if he has left then evidently he doesn't care about me or the kittens. So I don't care about him anymore." she concluded as she looked back at her kits. Ruby knew that there was a limit to asking questions about personal issues but she was intrigued. Violet shuffled slightly. "But it just doesn't make sense, why would he just suddenly lose care?" she questioned. Ruby shuffled to get comfortable. "There was a lot of things I didn't know about him, he kept secrets from everyone." she concluded. Eventually the kits had fallen asleep; Ruby asked Violet to look after them while she went to gather fresh flayrah for Daisy and Ridfern. Upon exiting the burrow, Ruby met fellow Blackhaven rabbits who exited their own burrows to enjoy the new day. Ruby gathered small amounts of grass and similar food and returned to her own burrow. Violet was watching Daisy and Ridfern, who were still sleeping.

Ruby laid down and placed the food by her side, Violet gave her a smile and left to allow Ruby to rest. Ruby fell asleep and dreamt about the future of her new kittens. While also pondering the reason for Shadow's departure from Blackhaven Warren.
