Blaise and Padma sat on the couch of their quiet flat, a bowl of ice cream in her hands and her feet over her fiance's legs as he rubbed each one for her. As it was Friday, Blaise had gotten home from Gringotts earlier that evening and they decided to spend the time in each other's company.
"You know what this needs?" Padma asked. "Cheese."
Blaise gave her a strange look before he shook his head and began kneading the pad of her right foot. "I do so hope that's the baby hormones talking and not a strange quirk you've had from childhood," he said.
Padma blushed and put another spoon of ice cream in her mouth. "What if I told you I used to put cheese on my apples when I was younger?"
"Seriously?" Blaise asked. Apples were sweet and cheese was definitely not. What had she been thinking?
Padma nodded. "Parvati dared me once and then I found I rather liked the combination."
Blaise laughed as he switched feet. Leave it to Padma to justify something so strange.
Padma joined in his laughter before she ran a hand across her swollen stomach. "It should be any day now," she said, her voice taking on a far-away quality.
Blaise leaned over and pulled her shirt up slightly before placing a kiss against her skin. "I can't wait." Padma smiled. Blaise loved their daughter with all his heart, glorifying her very existence. She would be the perfect combination of the two of them and they both couldn't be more eager to see her.
"I hope she's like you: outgoing, ambitious, adventurous, not afraid to tell people off when they get in her face," Padma said.
Blaise shook his head. "No, she'll be more like you. She doesn't kick or move around much like normal babies and you were always the quiet one who sat in the back of the library reading. I'd be surprised if she didn't come out with a book in hand."
Padma playfully swatted him. "There's nothing wrong with being academic," she said.
Blaise leaned away from her hand before placing another kiss to her stomach. "She's going to be beautiful like her mother though. Nice dark skin, long black hair, bright brown eyes and all the boys will be tailing her around the school."
"She's not even born yet and you're thinking about school and boys? Who's all academic now?" Padma teased, taking another bite of her sundae.
"What? She'll need to be pretty and smart to combat her weird desire to put cheese on apples," Blaise said, giving the young woman a cheeky grin. He could match her teasing as well. It was part of what had attracted the pair to each other in the first place.
Padma pouted and pulled her legs off Blaise's lap before kicking him up onto his feet. "Would you please be a dear and get me some cheese now?" she asked, batting her eyelashes.
Blaise bowed low, purposely touching the couch cushion with his nose, before saying, "Your wish is my command, milady," and leaving towards the kitchen.
Padma rubbed a hand over hand and whispered, "If you do come out like me, I do at least hope you get your father's playful attitude."
