A/N: To be honest, I can't believe that I actually wrote a new chapter. It was in a spur of a moment but I'm happy I did it. Now we're even closer to the end which means I can finish this some day. So, it's been over a year, huh? How've ya been doing? First of all, I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for all the follows and favourites you've given this story! Thanks you! You can't believe how happy it made me every time I saw that someone else had added this fic to their favs or follows. Also, thank you so so so much for you all who left a comment! Also, I'm so so so sorry that I never answered them. I feel ashamed I didn't nor will now. It's mostly because there are so many and I have no idea which ones I've answered and which not. Like I said, it's been a year.

So, I think you guys can see it but my writing's style has changed a little again. Or at least I feel like it's different from before. This story started as something light hearted and happy with lots of lame jokes but now it's more serious with more plot development and me trying to avoid useless dialog. I'm sorry if you got hooked to the fic because of 'em jokes but I think I had to change the voice of the story to more serious. (And yes, this might just be because it's hard for me to write only humour anymore and yes, it might also be due to the fact that I've taken liking to horror genre and that's pretty much all I've been writing lately.) Also, my ability to plan has developed so when I read through my earlier plans for the plot (written in the beginning of 2015) I didn't like what I saw. I have to take a different route if I want this story to be actually good and just not have an interesting story idea (and a lot of fanservice). Despite all that I still try to keep the somewhat relaxed atmosphere on since it suits this story well. It's not how I'd write my stories nowadays but it's still fun to try different writing styles once in a while – or rather go back to the way I used to be before, lol.

Chapter 8 - Too Late

Namimori Park, The Present

It was a perfect day to have a happy family picnic. Reborn had done once again well with choosing the day, maybe even somehow predicting the weather if it was even possible. Tsuna was quite sure that it was when you were talking about the eccentric hitman. The brunet leaned back until he was looking up to the aloof clouds and wondering how much the sky resembled his own family. They were perfect descriptions of everyone's personalities even though it'd taken some time for Tsuna to notice it. For example the rain was soothing just like Yamamoto who tried to keep everyone friendly with each other and Ryohei was like the always shining sun.

Though, the other sun he knew didn't resemble one at all. At least, not at that very moment.

Just by tilting his head a little Tsuna could see a brooding boy looking sullenly in front of him, not saying a word. It was weird, Reborn hadn't even made them play any crazy Vongola styled games or even tried to find out who… who…

Tsuna messed his hair up and pushed a picture of an unknown man away. He didn't want to admit it but there were times when he had too much time to stay alone with his thoughts and then he ended up wandering too deep into the topic of Yu-kun's other father.

This morning he'd woken up with Yu-kun sleeping deeply next to him (Tsuna had been surprised since the boy was usually already up when Tsuna woke up) and wondered if the man he would fall in love with had as dark hair as Yuki did.

During a boring morning class he'd looked out of the window and tried to figure out if that man was as tall as Hibari-san who'd been beating up students coming late. Maybe he was even taller? Tsuna liked smaller types better, though. Like with Kyoko-chan. She was petite so why not his future husband too.

And just now when he'd laid his eyes to the sky he'd wondered what that man's flame was.

Tsuna sighed and looked away from his clearly sulking tutor. He didn't want to know, not really. He fidgeted for a while, frowning at the too still clouds and finally groaned. It was no use, his mind couldn't rest at all. He got quickly up, cursing himself for not being able to enjoy the relaxed atmosphere that was usually rare. With a sullen muttering he walked to three laughing girls, Enma and, to Tsuna's horror, Mukuro who formed a circle around a small, giggling boy. A small smile tucked Tsuna's lips when he saw his son, his future son, get along so well with his family. Chrome was making a flower crown, her fingers moving softly, while Mukuro was looking too intently at the little boy to be comfortable. Tsuna shrieked quietly and almost ran to the group.

"M-Mukuro!" The Mist guardian hummed. "You aren't doing anything funny to Yu-kun, right?"

Mismatched eyes turned to look at Tsuna and when an amused smirked started to play on the boy's lips Tsuna almost fell back. But now he had a big responsibility on his shoulders so he couldn't do that. Instead he stood his ground, his legs shaking a little but met the eyes that could cause him nightmares.

"Why, Tsunayoshi-kun? Are you worried?" Mukuro chuckled. "Or perhaps jealous that I'm paying so much attention on someone other than you?"

"D-Don't be ridiculous!" Tsuna hated that he flushed. He glanced at Yu-kun who was intently watching Chrome make the crown. He looked mesmerized with the moment – and hopefully only with the moment and not with whatever Mukuro was doing.

"No need to worry, Vongola. We're just playing." He gave a wink that sent cold shivers of dread up Tsuna's spine. The brunet wanted to say something angry at Mukuro but the blue haired boy hummed again and turned back to the little kid, his smile dropping. Tsuna's muscles tensed up even more. The teasing atmosphere had disappeared completely.

"What is it?"

They both watched as the dark haired boy surrounded by the teenagers started to nod, his eyes closing and then suddenly opening like he was shocked by something. Yu-kun seemed really tired – actually he'd been unusually tired today and yesterday too but maybe it was normal in his situation. Tsuna knew it couldn't be easy for such a small child. He even might miss his actual parents from the future. He felt a little sting but suppressed it quickly. He knew he wasn't ready to be a parent even though Yu-kun was biologically his. He just didn't have the same experience yet as his older self.

The one that was a father. He was no competition.

Tsuna sat next to Mukuro with a heavy sigh and ruffled the fluffy mane of hair. The kid turned to him and when he recognized who was touching him he flashed a bright smile.

"Tou-chan! Zia Chrome's making Yu-kun a pretty flower crown!" His eyes were shining like stars. "It has so many colors!"

"Oh, really?" Tsuna glanced at the crown with yellow, red and blue flowers. "It's really beautiful. Remember to thank Chrome later."

Already chubby cheeks became even rounder as Yuki blew air into them. "Tou-chan," he started with a scolding tone. "Yu-kun's no stupid. Yu-kun already thanked. Twice!"

Tsuna blushed. "O-oh."

"It's alright, Tsuna-kun," Chrome said softly. "Yu-kun really thanked me a lot."

"I guess it's okay then." Just as Tsuna said it Yu-kun nodded forward, almost falling. With a surprised yelp he caught the child just in time. Yuki gasped and woke up, his eyes looking around feverishly.

"Are you okay? What happened?" Tsuna asked, still holding the small boy in his arms. A little quiver didn't escape from him. "Do you want to go to sleep?"

Yuki bit his lip, looking down to the grass. His eyes narrowed like he was trying to keep tears in and suddenly Tsuna noticed the dark bags under his eyes. He petted the soft cheek, scolding himself for not noticing. He indeed wasn't a father just yet. He hoped that at least his older self would be much, much better.

"It's been hard for you," he said softly, lifting the kid to his lap. "You can sleep if you want." Everyone had gone quiet around them, even Yamamoto and Gokudera had stopped their one sided argument and were watching a little further away. Tsuna hugged the small child closer to his chest, hoping he could provide at least some kind of safety, but when a small, almost inaudible sob came, he felt lost. Warm tears started to roll to Yuki's cheeks and that way to Tsuna's hand that was still caressing the chubby cheek.

"Y-Yu-kun! What is it?" Tsuna looked frantically around to his friends who looked just as lost as he felt. He tried to look at Reborn who's eyes were now shadowed with his fedora, then at Enma who's eyebrows were set in a deep frown. Even Mukuro had a worried look in his cold eyes. Then Kyoko reached his arms towards the hugging father and son and automatically, without even realizing it, Tsuna leaned away. Kyoko looked taken aback but put a sweet smile on her face anyway.

"It's okay Tsuna-kun. Yu-kun. Let me hold him." Her arms reached out even more, almost touching Yuki's arms but something came over Tsuna. He reeled back, hugging his son even tighter. Somehow he didn't want to give Yuki away. He didn't want that it was Kyoko who'd get Tsuna's son to calm down. It was ridiculous and immediately Tsuna felt ashamed but he couldn't stop the jealousy growing inside of him.

"T-Tou-chan." Yuki's pitiful cry snapped the older boy out of his weird state of mind. Tsuna lowered his gaze down to the crying boy, not daring to face the hurt look of the girl. Instead he tried to concentrate on the situation at hand and try his best with Yuki.

"What is it?" Tsuna asked again, rocking back and forth. It felt like a natural movement so he did it. The sobs became less aggressive after a while so what he did must have been right.

"I want Papa."

"Eh?"

"Yu-kun wants Papa." Then his cries became even louder which made it impossible to avoid looking up. Only that he met other confused stares and shrugs.

"Yu-kun, listen. We don't know who your Papa is," Tsuna explained, wondering if the next question was even okay. "But… if you want him, you can tell me who he is and I'll…"

"Dame-Tsuna."

Reborn's voice cut Tsuna's sentence in the middle. The brunet looked up to the boy whose expression was still unreadable thanks to the fedora hiding it. Reborn took a step closer to them, making Tsuna nervous with the way he was acting. He was serious but why?

"Don't ask that kind of questions, you idiot," Reborn said. "It's too dangerous."

"Dangerous?"

"Because it can alter the future and mess everything up." He was quiet for a while but then surprised everyone by looking up, showing his dark eyes. Suddenly it was hard to breathe as he saw the look he'd never seen before on the hitman's face before. He'd seen Reborn worried, angry and even happy but never scared.

Reborn was scared. Of what? Tsuna looked down at the quivering boy who'd gone oddly quiet after Reborn talked. Or maybe the question was who?

Tsuna shook his head. "Weren't you the one in the first place who wanted to find Yuki's other dad? That's why you even set up this—"

"Shut up."

Tsuna snapped his mouth shut, fear shivering his body. Reborn's eyes had darted up to Tsuna's but they weren't scared anymore. His posture had gone rigid, almost ready to run if needed. But Reborn never ran. After seconds passed it became harder and harder for the teen to meet the calculating eyes that were both trying to figure something impossible out and probably kill Tsuna with invisible daggers that totally flew out of the hitman's eyes.

A quiet sniff snapped them both out of their staring contest. "You shouldn't talk like that to tou-chan, Reborn. You know how much tou-chan hates it." And just with couple of sad words the world's scariest hitman hid his eyes with his hat and sat down. Not too near them but not too far either. Tsuna didn't look at the dark boy anymore but instead concentrated on the way Yu-kun's eyes were drooping and finally closed. The air was still thick because of the earlier situation and finally Reborn got enough.

"Hey, you all. Go do whatever you were doing and stop staring." A smirk returned to his face but something was missing. "Or do you want me to come up with some healthy exercise?"

The guardians moved immediately, all of them knowing what the hitman was capable of when he was clearly pissed off. Even the scariest guys knew and wanted to avoid it. It was actually pretty funny to see how Hibari left quickly and Mukuro pretended to pick flowers for shaking Chrome. When the chatter started to grow even livelier Tsuna could breathe again. Still feeling the drying tears of his son's and the heavy presence of his tutor nearby made it almost impossible, though. Just what was this situation? Only yesterday they'd all happily played games together (Tsuna happily ignored the fact that Reborn had gone early to the bed, probably already in his weird mood) but now he had his exhausted kid in his arms and he didn't know what to do once he woke up.

Yuki had put up one serious happy mask on all this time. Or maybe he was just the type to be all happy until the stress became too much and he ended up collapsing. However it was, it was no good. The past wasn't good place for such a small child so he hoped his future self would hurry up and do something about the people who were threatening Yuki. This child seriously missed his real parents.

A shadow loomed over Tsuna, making him look up. He'd expected one of his friends to come up to him and ask about Yuki but when he saw the pineapple shaped hair he was so surprised he couldn't even greet the boy.

"The little bunny gave you quite a scare, huh?" A smile that usually scared Tsuna played on the mist's lips but now Tsuna only had enough energy smile awkwardly back. When the other boy still kept looming over them, he scooted back a little. He even noticed how Reborn's eyes shifted suspiciously to the criminal, Leon sneaking closer to his hand. If there wasn't one of his scariest guardians watching down to him, Tsuna would have raised a questioning brow at Reborn's unusual behaviour.

"H-How can I help you, Mukuro?" The Mist had kept silent for too long that the brunet was getting nervous. He looked up and saw that the other boy was looking up to the clouds.

"Look after your little bunny, Tsunayoshi-kun," Mukuro said finally. "There's weird mist hanging around him today."

Tsuna's eyes widened. "Huh? What do you mean?"

But Mukuro only shrugged, looking indifferent. "Who knows? I know that I don't know. Find out yourself." And then he just left not caring any longer. Chrome, who'd been observing the situation from afar, jumped hastily up and followed her other half quickly out of the sunny Namimori Park. Tsuna kept looking after them until they were out of sight and shook his head.

Just what was going on? His intuition had started to tingle harder after Mukuro's words. Something was going to happen soon and he didn't like it. He looked down to the sleeping child and wondered what kind of mist Mukuro had seen. Was it the enemy? If it was, what were they doing to Yuki? Tsuna's stomach churned and suddenly he was afraid that it was already too late for him to keep the small child safe.

Little did he know that just couple of steps away from them, the dark eyes were following every caress Tsuna gave to the boy and every time Tsuna frowned in worry, the observing boy wanted to just forget everything he'd heard last night. He wanted especially much to forget what Mukuro had just told them and not feel these useless feelings of worry.

Somewhere close to Namimori Park, The Present

"…daime! How's Yu…sa…"

Damn. The connection was getting worse. Pink painted fingers took out the earpiece to enter some indigo flames into it and then put it back in. The statistic stopped right away and the soft sound of the next Vongola boss came out as clear as a day.

"He's fine, I guess. Just tired." There was a hesitant pause. Long fingers brushed the red hair behind one ear and started to type something with a white laptop. "And Mukuro talked something about mist around him. I don't know what he meant and I can't help but worry."

The typing stopped. They hadn't found out anything, right? She should have taken in count that damned Mist guardian. She'd trusted too much on her conclusions of the relationship between the tenth of Vongola and his Mist. Apparently they weren't as distant at this timeline as the data had told her.

"Mist? Do you think the enemy from the future is behind this?" The voice belonged to the Rain guardian. With couple of clicks the profile of Yamamoto Takeshi popped up to the screen with a picture of the said boy playing baseball. The data said he was quite simple individual. Not a threat unless in fight.

"Reborn-sama, how do we get rid of the mist?"

Reborn. The picture of the ex-Sun Arcobaleno came out. He was the biggest threat at the moment. Red painted lips pursed up in distaste. She waited to hear the voice of the ex-Arcobaleno but when it didn't come she was about to sigh in disappointment. Then there was a quiet mutter that couldn't be mistaken.

"There's nothing we can do. Not right now."

"Huh?! Why? What the hell? What about that Mukuro bastard? Don't tell me he refused to help?! I'm going to kill that ass-!"

"Gokudera-kun!" The storm quieted down after hearing his boss' shocked voice. A reluctant apology was muttered. "It's okay. I don't think Mukuro knows how to help."

"Eh? What do you mean?"

"I don't know but… I got a feeling that he just doesn't know what's going on."

Vongola's hyper intuition sure was scary. She opened the profile of Sawada Tsunayoshi with a disappointed shake of head. To think that such a great ability was wasted on such a wimp. She wrinkled her nose up at the picture of a boy in only his boxers running around the town. How embarrassing. But he was still right with that intuition of his; the Mist guardian doesn't know what to do because the mist around Sawada Toshiyuki was something that hasn't been invented yet. It's something that's unknown in the future where she and Toshiyuki come from, too. Such great technology, that is. It's her pride and she couldn't wait to see how it worked in real life.

She opened up the last file she wanted to look at that night: Sawada Toshiyuki. Yes. The great ability of the Vongola wasn't wasted on him. Not with the attributes he'd gotten from both of his fathers. With just right push the little kid could be anything, he could do anything. Humming a happy tune she closed all the profiles and opened an application hidden behind couple of folders. The brain wave appeared on the screen, making sharp spikes. His brain was active even though he was in a deep sleep. Just a right amount of mist and rain entering his brain and soon she could go home. She could leave that dusty, old place behind she'd once called home and finally start the actual plan they had.

She closed the computer and shut the connection in an earpiece. Whatever they were going to do or say now wouldn't change anything. It was too late for them.

A/N: Because I love to share random news about my life with you guys (and I'm just lonely, I guess. Hahah…) 1) I just finished playing The Last of Us and I'm hooked. Can't wait for the second part~2) I'm supposed to graduate after this school year… let's see what happens, shall we. 3) My newest obsession and OTP is KageHina (Kageyama and Hinata) from Haikyuu! and I even started to write fanfiction of them. 4) The first plan of the Park scene in this chapter consisted of Reborn trying to find out who Yuki's father is and Yuki happily playing around with his aunts and uncles. That's the reason I left Enma there too because he was supposed to be one candidate. But then after years I felt like the whole setting was completely useless if I ever want to finish this story but couldn't take it away anymore thanks to my older chapters so... I improvised. I had no idea what to do with the chapter when I started to write it last night so here we go. Maybe I actually can finish the story now because the plot is progressing.
