Welcome to the family

By Eagle Alchemist

"Would you stop already." Snotlout griped.

"I can't."

"Sure ya can. Just stand still. Totally easy." Tuffnutt chuckled.

"Look at the groove he's wearing in the ground Tuffnutt. He could lie down in it." Ruffnutt snickered.

The twins laughed. Snotlout crossed his arms and rolled his eyes.

"You'll only stress yourself out more if you keep this up." Fishlegs added.

Always the voice of reason. But, reason had grown wings and flown long ago. Hiccup continued to pace. All the dragons watched him, puzzled by his actions. His friends were either trying to stop his relentless pacing or mocking him for it. But he just couldn't help it. He was worried, excited and panicked all at once.

A pained scream halted his legs and he stared at the door to his house. Silently praying that everything would be alright. Now instead of pacing, he was hyperventilating and ringing his hands. Gobber placed a burly hand on his shoulder and smiled kindly when Hiccup turned his head.

"Don't worry laddie. She's tough. This will be nothing to her." He said, then another scream had him smile sheepishly "Well, mostly anyway."

Hiccup sighed. He knew they were all trying to be helpful, but it wasn't working. Anxiously he waited as the screams subsided and the house fell eerily silent. Hiccup held his breath. What was wrong? Just as the front door opened, he heard the first cries of a baby. His mother came out smiling.

"Mom? Is Astrid..."

"She's fine son." Valka smiled "And so is your daughter."

Emerald eyes grew wide and the nervous smile crept across his face. Leading the way, Valka took him inside to see his wife and their baby girl. As he reached the top of the stairs, he saw them both. Astrid with her hair all messed up, cheeks red and looking tired. The small crying bundle in her arms, wisps of blonde hair upon the babes head. He sat on the edge of the bed.

"Astrid, are you okay?"

"I'm alright. Tired. But I'm happy too." She replied and handed the baby to him "Say hello to your daughter."

Cradling his offspring Hiccup looked upon the chubby little face. The very second she was in his arms, her crying stopped. So tiny, so pink and so warm. Just hearing her tiny breathing. It was all so magical to him.

"Hey there." He said quietly "I'm your daddy."

Valka and Gothi left them. As they opened the door Toothless rushed inside. Everyone outside cheered at the news and went off to spread the good word. Upstairs, Toothless stopped beside Hiccup and sniffed at the bundle he held. Neither parent worried. They knew he could and would be gentle. When his nose got close, the baby reached out a tiny hand and laid it upon his snout. It was like magic. In that second the Night Fury knew this tiny being was going to need watching over. He all but purred, earning an affectionate pat from his best friend.

"Welcome to the family sweetie." Hiccup cooed "Your going to love it."
