Disclaimer: I don't own anything

She was supposed to be perfect. She led the world to believe she was flawless without even trying. When she looked in the mirror, hell, sometimes she even believed it too.

She purposefully built walls, constantly warding off anyone that would try to break them. She knew that once her defenses came down, there was no stopping the girl she was hiding from coming out. The girl with the collection of glitter pens who fawned over the models and celebrities in magazines through the lenses of her totally-not-cool glasses. The girl with teeth as imperfect as her parents' marriage, with the orthodontic bills to prove it. The girl who was rejected by every guy in school for that dumb semi-formal.

She needed a do-over, some kind of rewind button. She needed to be surrounded by a group of people who didn't know her past self. She spent months erasing herself and drawing in someone new, who was as skinny as they come and who had an attitude that could win you a hundred grand. She was granted her wish, and she headed off to Camp Wawanakwa that fateful summer, ready to prove herself.

She saw an eerie resemblance of herself in Beth (not that she would ever admit that), and part of her wanted to take her under her wing to show her how to transform into someone better. Someone people liked. She knew she couldn't do that though, so instead she took joy in harassing her old self, dragging her through the mud, only to push her back down again. She threw Beth in the trash, promising herself to never be that girl again. But when Beth stood up to her, she was shocked, mostly because she never realized the power she used to possess. She was, in a weird, parallel way, proud of herself.

She toted Lindsay around as a constant reminder to always be on top. She could never let her guard down, never slip up, and certainly never become a spineless follower like her blonde sidekick. Though she would never admit it, she admired Lindsay for how she handled it all, standing tall in the midst of her towering shadow, but still managing to be so Lindsay, to make a few friends along the way, and finally finding the strength to overthrow her dictator. She had to pay the price though, because traitors never win.

She directed her abundant hatred of herself toward the island, the other contestants, Chris, anything but her own reflection. She hated having to pretend she was better than everyone else, and she hated the power. She hated how the power almost satisfied her. She hated everyone hating her, and she couldn't believe that deep down, she wanted someone to see through her ruse and shame her for who she was pretending to be. This hatred only fueled her to be meaner.

She felt weak having to stay up later than everyone else to sneak her retainers in. She felt powerless every time she had to switch out her "long-lasting" contacts. She was ashamed that she lived in secret, but as time went on, she fell in deeper and deeper until she became the monster she created and there was no way out.

She finally got what she wanted, and no one had to know the old Heather. She was finally unstoppable.

Alright, last year was not my year for updating. I know, I know, I haven't posted anything in forever, but I did write a bunch of one-shot-esque things like this, but sadly this one was the only one I saw fit for posting. I'm working on a big project right now, but I won't give any promises yet. Hopefully this year I'll be on this site more. Thanks for reading!
