DISCLAIMER: I DON'T OWN ANYTHING
Well people. Im back. Happy New Year! Sorry I really tried to finish this chapter before the Year ended. But life over here has been pretty crazy. With University, Family Matters and literal Natural Disasters. Ive had very little time to be able to get much done and be able to focus on this.
But I swear to you all, that I will not give up on this story. No matter how long it takes, I promise all of you that I will finish this.
So let's not waste anymore time. On with the show!
Chapter 24
Hail Hydra
In every home there are quiet and uneventful nights, even in the home of Earths Mightiest Heroes. No global threat, alien invasion, supervillain attacks or even a simple building fire was happening. For one rare moment, the city that never sleeps was quiet.
And what does that entail for the Heroes of this fine city? For many of the vigilantes that patrol the streets, this would simply be another night of patrols or an evening to be with friends and family. The Avengers, however, had their own form of entertainment for the evening, which they all quickly blew through within the first hour. Turns out being a hero with no heroic duties to perform can make things pretty dull.
So in an effort to pass the time, the heroes started to tell each other stories of their past adventures. The group consisting of Ben, Wasp, Ant Man, Iron Man, Captain America, Hawkeye, Hulk and even Ultron-5 had gathered in the living room where each member present took turns in telling their stories. Some were actually pretty entertaining, Tony Stark displaying his natural showmanship, with his stories being incredibly engaging and a lot of fun to listen to. Even Hulk was invested, when the Billionaire talked about all the criminal tech he blew up. It was a shame Thor was on patrol with Black Panther for the evening, as Ben was sure that the Asgardians famous vigor would definitely make his stories more enthralling.
The God of Thunder had actually made some great progress, after his initial depression from his banishment from Asgard. After working through the five stages of grief, thanks in no small part to Jane Foster, the Thunder God managed to pick himself back up and continue serving as an Avenger, while also trying to solve the mystery behind his sudden exile.
Ben certainly would've preferred to have the God of Thunder present when it was Hank's turn. Clearly story telling was not included in his PhD, as he focused more on the scientific aspects of his stories, listing all the theories and physics that he calculated in his missions and how precise he needed to be in order to pull each maneuver off. His, so called, storytelling sounded more like those boring Science Journals, Ben had to write reports on when he was back in High School. The only one that seemed to be invested in Hanks story was Janet, who sat there completely invested in his every word. Course Ultron-5 was also paying attention to Hank, but since he's a robot, he would be unable to get bored. After almost falling asleep three times, the Alien Hero didn't think anyone could be worse than Hank at story telling…
Then Captain America took the stage.
You'd think a War Hero, would be able to spice up a good retelling of events taking place in the biggest War in Mans History. But someone obviously forgot to tell Cap that, as the guy was just so dull. He droned on and on about every little detail, from the temperature of the area, to proper procedures for maintaining his weapons and standard patrols. If Hank Pym a science paper, Captain America is the equivalent of a History Lecture. Honestly Ben had a hard time believing that the guy who could give such rousing speeches that could get him so pumped up, could tell a War Story that made him want to fall into a coma.
After what felt like an eternity, Captain Americas lecture finally ended and Hawkeye took up the reigns. Once again the team got exposed to another competent story teller as Hawkeye stuck to the important details. Course the archer couldn't help but brag about his already impressive marksmanship by describing, what sounded like a very impressive shot. But of course, like every good story, there's always critics. Tony wasted no time in pointing out the improbabilities of the shot that Hawkeye described. This lead to a heated argument between the two, which only escalated when others started adding their own two cents into the mix. Then one thing lead to another and before anyone knew it, they were all down in the training room watching Hawkeye standing in front of a very elaborate targeting range.
The target was a simple red apple positioned atop of a metal pedestal at eye level. Between The Purple Archer and his target where four energy disks, each one with a triangle shaped gape in them, resembling a pizza with a slice cut from it. Each disc, rotated at different speeds in different directions. From Hawkeyes position, the speed and direction of the discs made it so that for a split millisecond, the discs would line up perfectly to reveal a clear line directly to the apple. But the gap was so small you could blink and miss it entirely.
"There's is no way you're going to make that shot." Iron Man stated now that he'd gotten a good look at the target and ran multiple calculations within his helmet to confirm his initial thought.
Even Wasp shrunk down and flew in close to look at the target from a different angle, before flying up to Hawkeye, who had calmly lined up the shot and drawn his arrow, preparing to fire.
"Yeah. Iron Man's right. That's just not going to happen." The Size Changing Heroine agreed. She then flew back to the gathered group and returned to her normal size, right next to Ben.
The Teen Hero gave her a friendly smile, which she responded with a stern look that caused Bens smile to evaporate like a puddle on a summer sidewalk. Things between the two had been a little tense, ever since Ben snuck out of the Mansion while he was sick. Upon realizing that he had gone, Janet went into a frenzy and tried to scramble the whole team to begin a search effort to find him. According to Tony, she thought SHIELD had actually tried to abduct him and it took Hulk, holding her in his hands, to keep her from flying to the SHEILD Helicarrier and kicking down Nick Fury's door herself.
And once Ben eventually returned, he was initially on the receiving end of such a bone shattering hug, he was almost bedridden for another couple of weeks, due to a broken ribcage. Only to be then berated for worrying her. Of course, Ben did feel horrible for causing her that level of distress, but he couldn't help but feel she was overreacting, slightly. Sure the other members of the team where worried about him and were looking for him, but they also had faith in his abilities and that he'd be fine and would find a way to contact them. Course Ben, left out the part where he completely forgot about his watches communicator, it was already embarrassing enough. But either way, while the rest of the team was worried, they trusted him enough to take care of himself. The way Janet was acting, you'd think he was a toddler, just learning how to walk.
It only got worse when Janet then insisted that she would not let Ben out of her sight, from that day forward. And she wasn't kidding, aside from going to bed and the bathroom, Janet and Ben where essentially joined at the hip. Now of course this made the Teen feel uncomfortable and he, along with everyone else, tried to object to Janet's logic. But the Size Changing Heroine shot them all with a glare so intense, that they immediately shut up and backed off. Even Hulk and Thor, did not wish to argue with her. It was at that point that the Men started to believe this was her real superpower. But if Ben was being honest, he did worry her by sneaking out. So, in a way, he felt that he deserved this punishment. At least until Janet calmed down enough to be able to have a rational discussion with him. Until then, Ben had to get used to having the Wasp buzzing around his head.
"I don't like to use the word impossible, but it may fit here." Ant Man commented, bringing the Young Avenger back to the present. The Scientist then glanced up at Green Goliath standing behind him.
"What do you think, Hulk?"
"Don't care." Hulk merely grunted in response. "Only came in case Hawkeye started a fight."
"Thanks for the support, team." Hawkeye said sarcastically. But despite the vocal cynics, the Archer kept aiming his arrow at the small target. A small smirk creeped across his face.
"Come on, Guys. This is Hawkeye were talking about. He's got this." Ben said, encouragingly.
"The odds of Clint Barton, aka Hawkeye, being able to successfully hit his target. Is less that 0.01%." Ultron stated in his usual robotic monotone.
The Alien Teen glanced up at the Robot with an annoyed expression. "Thanks, Ultron. That helps." He replied, dryly.
"You are welcome, Benjamin Tennyson." Ultron responded.
Ben rolled his eyes at the Mechanical beings complete inability to understand sarcasm.
Hawkeye noticed that one person had, not yet voiced his opinion on his marksmanship and glanced out of the corner of his eye at the Red, White and Blue clad Hero.
"What do you think, old man?" The Archer asked, curiously. Despite his tough demeanor, Hawkeye did have an incredible amount of respect for the Sentinel of Liberty. Even though he would never admit it.
"I haven't seen you miss yet. I don't expect you to start now." Captain America responded with a smile. He didn't even hesitate with his answer. The Super Soldier had complete faith in Hawkeyes skills.
The Purple Archer grinned as he refocused in his target. His arms steady as he controlled his breathing. The discs spinning, round and round as the silhouette of the apple can be seen through the projected energy of the discs. He drew back the arrow and the string went taught, the bow bent in an arch. String and bow creaked from the strain as Hawkeye stared solely at his target. One rotation, the apple became visible for a millisecond. Second rotation, the apple was visible again. Every Hero watched with complete investment, anxious to see what happens, Ben even unconsciously healed his breath from the anticipation. Hawkeye had his arrow pulled back until the Fletching was brushing against his check. He watched the apple, he counted the rotation of every disks spin. The disks spun once more, his target was clear, he breathed out and let the arrow fly.
The world seemed to be in slow motion. The Avengers all watched the arrow fly across the room, getting closer and closer to the discs. Nobody could tell if it was gonna make it, nobody cared. At that moment, none of them could do anything but watch as the arrow speeded towards the first disc, just as the gap was about to line up, the arrow was about to reach it…
Then everything went black.
At first, Ben thought he'd actually passed out from the excitement, or that he'd just dreamed this entire situation and he would wake up and still be listening to Caps stories. But Ben could tell he was still conscious and could feel that he was standing up and hear everyone else breathing around him. So, the most likely conclusion would be that the power went out.
"What? Did I make the shot?" Hawkeyes voice suddenly called out from the darkness.
"Ben? Ben! Where's Ben?" Wasp screamed in a panicked tone. Ben could hear her starting to hyperventilate standing next to him.
"Jan. I'm literally right next to you." Ben spoke in a calm, but slightly annoyed tone.
Suddenly a yellow light illuminated the room causing Ben to blink as his pupils adjusted. He looked to see that Wasp had shrunken down to her hero mode, with her right hand glowing with yellow, stinger energy. Fear was clearly visible on her small face, which quickly shifted to relief the moment her eyes landed on Ben.
"Oh, thank goodness." The Size Changing Heroine sighed as she fluttered around him, apparently checking his condition. "Are you ok? Are you hurt?"
"Jan, I'm fine." Ben responded with his own sigh of annoyance. However current events took priority of the Teens attention as he looked around the dark room.
"What happened?"
All of a sudden, blue and red lights started flickering from the floor, catching everyone's attention. Looking down the team all saw Iron Man and Ultron lying down on the floor. The lights on Iron Mans armor and Ultron's robotic body where dim, until their lights blinked back on and both metallic beings rose from the floor.
"Tony?" Ant Man asked, concerned about his friend. While also going over to check on Ultron.
"Uhh, that was an EMP, an electromagnetic pulse." Iron Man grunted.
"Why isn't the mansion power up yet?" Ant Man questioned.
"Well, it could have handled one pulse, but it looks like three went off in the city back-to-back." Iron Man responded, checking his systems. "We have to get out up there now."
However, as Tony did not specify what way the team should get to the surface, Hulk decided to take his direct route and proceeded to grab Captain America and Hawkeye in each arm and jump right through the ceiling, busting through layers of metal, rock and concrete to pop up right in the middle of the main hall of the mansion, just in front of the front door. The Gamma Bruiser was followed by Wasp and Ben, having turned into Big Chill to ascended and turned back once he touched back down. Ant Man, riding on of his flying ants, Ultron and Iron Man using their respective thrusters.
"You know, there were stairs we could have taken." Iron Man stated frustrated, by the constant destruction that the team, mainly the Hulk, inflicted on his home.
But Hawkeye casually brushed him off as he wandered over to the door and grasping the handle.
"Hey, you're the one who said there was, uh…."
The Archers train of thought immediately derailed upon opening the door. As standing on their doorstep, clade in a skin tight black leather suit, hair as red as blood and eyes green as emeralds, was none other than the Black Widow.
"…Trouble." Hawkeye managed to get out as his eyes widened in shock.
The other members of the team immediately froze upon seeing the infamous Hydra Agent.
"Avengers, I need your help." She said in a calm, but serious tone.
There have been several moments where Ben has had a supervillain show up at his house at one point or another. But he can safely say that he's never had one just show up at the front door. Especially one with her reputation. From everything Clint had told him, Black Widow was possibly the most dangerous woman on Earth, a perfect spy in every way. Capable of infiltrating, sabotaging and destabilizing any target she sets her sights on. Had she wanted to, she could have infiltrated the Mansion any time she wanted to and none of them would have noticed she was there. So, for her to just show up like this, was truly unexpected.
"Natasha." Clint started to say, only for Black Widow to simply walk right past him, without so much as a second glance and approach the Avengers.
That was by far the second dumbest thing she could have done as one particular Avenger was not too happy about seeing her again.
"Hulk remembers you." The Green Giant snarled at the Red-Haired Hydra Agent. "Stupid spy girl attacked Hulk in the desert."
Immediately Wasp positioned herself in front of Ben protectively in a fighting stance, glaring daggers at the Double Agent.
"Yeah, and she's a traitor. A member of Hydra. Go smash her." Wasp ordered.
Immediately Hulk let out a roar of pure rage and charged the Spy. However instead of dodging or putting up any kind of fight, Black Widow stood completely still as Hulk grabbed her whole upper body in his hand and pinned her up against the wall. The Red-Haired spy grunted in pain as she clutched onto Hulks massive fingers that where slowly crushing her windpipe.
Now Ben was completely confused by the Black Widows behaviour. From everything Hawkeye had told him about her, this seemed really out of character. Why would she actively walk into the home of her enemies, alone and not put up any form of resistance when the strongest being in the world is bearing down on her with every intention to smash her into paste? It just didn't make any sense to him. It contradicts practically everything that Hawkeye had told him about her. What was going on?
"Have to… listen." Black Widow breathed out, winching under the strain of Hulks massive hand slowly crushing her.
"Widow, you got about three seconds before we let the Hulk squeeze." Iron Man stated as the Heroes gathered around. "Did you set off the EMPs?"
The Red-Haired Spy grunted again from the Hulks giant hand pressing against her. But she managed to inhale enough air into her lungs to answer.
"Not… A traitor…You have to… believe…. Nick Fury sent me to get inside Hydra…." She explained between breaths. She then turned her gaze to Hawkeye and looked directly into the Archers eyes. Her expression was desperate, her green eyes pleaded.
"Clint, please."
For a moment, Hawkeye was silent. This was the woman who betrayed him, took everything they'd been through and threw it back in his face. Destroyed his reputation, ruined his life, had him locked up and then hunted for months. All he'd ever wanted to do from that day was to hunt her down and make her pay for what she did. And yet, in this moment, he actually felt an old spark of his partner in there.
He closed his eyes and let out a small sigh.
"Let her breathe, Hulk." He ordered, earning a confused look from the Green Giant, along with Wasp and Iron Man. "She saved my life, I owe her that."
Ben smiled at his friend's decision. He recalled how Hawkeye told him about how he Captain America, Black Panther and this other hero named Mockingbird, invaded Hydra Island to try and take down Black Widow. During that fight, Hawkeye was at the mercy of Hydras leader Baron von Strucker, who used his Satan Claw to almost drain all his life force from him. However according to Clint, Black Widow blasted Strucker in the back, knocking him out and saving Clint in the process. An action that Hawkeye found very strange considering everything she'd done to him before. It would be wrong of him, not to return the favor.
Hulk scoffed in response. "You've gone soft."
The Gamma Giant released his grip and the Scarlet Spy slid down to the floor, gasping for air as she clutched her sore chest.
"This better be good, Natasha." Hawkeye said, walking towards her, with a serious look on his face. "You got one minute. Start at the beginning."
After recovering from nearly being squashed like a ripe tomato, Black Widow started to explain. Apparently, she was actually not a Double Agent working for Hydra, but actually a Triple Agent in deep undercover, working for Nick Fury. Revealing that Fury had sent her undercover in Hydra in order to learn more about the allegiance between Hydra and AIM.
She explained that while undercover, she learned that Hydra had hired AIM to construct a device known as the Cosmic Cube. A weapon created using remains from an old Hydra weapon from WW2. According to her, AIM and Hydra both believe that the Cosmic Cube is capable of changing reality depending on who is using it. Meaning that Baron Strucker could use the Cube to create a reality where Hydra won the Second World War and controlled the world. But it seems that AIM had been lying to Hydra and intended to use the Cube themselves. Now Hydra was mobilizing to mount a full-scale attack on AIM to claim the Cube before they could finish it.
"This was my mission." Widow finished explaining. "To infiltrate Hydra, learn the nature of the weapon they had hired AIM to create, and neutralize it. No one could have foreseen this."
Once she had finished Captain America narrowed his eyes and stepped forward.
"I don't buy it, lady." He spoke up. "If you infiltrated Hydra under orders from Nick Fury, then why come to us? Why not go to him?"
"I tried." Black Widow answered immediately. "He had set up a special channel for me to contact him when I needed to, but he's not responding. As far as Shield knows, the Black Widow is a traitor. If I go to them, I'll be arrested. Fury was the only one who knew the truth, and as far as I can tell, he's disappeared."
The Avengers all stared at the Scarlet Haired spy as they all processed her words. She seemed very genuine in her claims. But then again, they are all aware of her ability to infiltrate and manipulate her targets. Even Ben had a hard time getting a read on her.
"Yeah, I'm with Cap, I don't buy it." Iron Man stated. "Not the Fury part, that I can believe. But a cosmic cube? Come on, nothing can just change reality."
Ben nervously scratched the back of his head. His experiences left him with a very different outlook on the fundamental workings of reality. But that was a story for another time.
Black Widow glared with frustration at the Genius Billionaire "It doesn't matter what you believe. Both Strucker and MODOC believe it. And they're going to tear the city apart fighting for control of it."
Regardless of their feelings towards the Scarlet Spy, the thought of two Evil Organizations going to war with each other, with innocent villains caught in the middle. That was something that the Avengers couldn't ignore.
Nor could they ignore the sudden earthquake that shock the mansion, followed by a loud boom and a blinding flash of light the engulfed every window on the left side of the mansion.
"Kind of like that, I'm assuming." Ant Man commented glancing at Iron Man.
The Heroes didn't need any further convincing, Hydra and AIM had begun their war and they needed to act now if they had any chance of ending the carnage. Still having their doubts about Black Widow, Hawkeye, Iron Man and Ant Man left with her to her stolen Hydra jet, while the rest of the Team headed for the Quinjet.
A few moments later the Avengers aircraft launched out of the bay, with Captain America in the pilot seat, accompanied by Wasp in the Co-pilot chair. Behind them sat Hulk and Ben, with Ultron standing at the back. They were soon joined by Widows jet, with Iron Man flying alongside it. Hawkeye sat in the pilot seat of the craft with Ant Man shrunk down and perched on his shoulder. Black Widow sat behind both of them in the copilot chair.
"If you so much as sneeze in a way I don't like, I'll let the Hulk have you for lunch. Got it, Widow?" Iron Man threatened the Super Spy.
From the inside of her jet, Black Widow actually looked nervous. Seems even the most well-trained secret agent get weak in the knees at the thought of being on the receiving end of Hulks wrath.
"Of course." She replied, shakenly. "We all want the same thing here, Iron Man. Once we get the cube, I'll surrender myself to you."
From his seat in the Quinjet, Ben couldn't help but giggle as he listened to Black Widows reply. He turned to his Gamma friend and playfully nudged him with his elbow.
"Isn't it funny how people are all afraid of you? I bet she really thought you'd eat her." He chuckled, humorously.
Hulk however didn't share the joke as he crossed his arms and stared ahead with a stone-cold expression.
"I would." He simply stated.
That earned another chuckle from Ben. However, this one was more of a nervous laugh than a real one, as the young hero had no idea whether the Gamma Giant was serious or not. Sure, the Big Guy was still holding a grudge against the Scarlet Spy for her role in his initial capture and imprisonment in the Cube. But to actually eat her….
"Heads up, team." Captain America spoke up, knocking Ben out of his musings.
The Alien Avenger looked out of the cockpit window and saw the entire skyline of New York, lit up like the Fourth of July. But it wasn't fireworks being launched, it was a full-blown war between Hydra and AIM. Green Hydra jets fired upon AIMs spherical transports, a majority of them being reflected by energy shields. Several AIM ships fired back with their own weaponry, some regular energy beams, while others caused their pursuing crafts to be draw into and stuck to buildings like magnets. A majority of Hydras forces seemed to be primarily focused on attacking a small squadron of AIM ships, one being larger than the others, most likely AIMs command ship with MODOC inside.
From what it appeared, Hydra had the superior numbers and combat capabilities. But AIM was able to balance the playing field with superior technology. All in all, it was a stalemate between the opposing sides. But the more they fought each other, the more damage they inflicted upon the city and the people within. The streets seemed to already be clear but being inside won't be able to protect them from the firepower of both sides.
The Heroes quickly joined the fight, firing at both sides to try and thin down the numbers. Which only resulted in both evil organizations to fire on them as well.
"Iron Man, what's the ETA on Thor and Panther?" Captain America asked as he blasted a Hydra jet from the sky.
"They're nine minutes out." Iron Man responded, while he fired his repulsors. Before leaving the Mansion, Iron Man had sent a call out to their absent teammates. In a fight like this, they'll need all hands-on deck.
"This is crazy. I think that AIM ship just opened a black hole."
True enough, one of the AIM ships fired a black sphere from a strange looking cannon attached to it and it temporarily opened up a black hole that sucked in the nearest Hydra jets to it.
As the fight raged on around them, Hulk grunted with a slight grin on his face. "Huh, I say we let them fight. Enjoy the show."
"There's nothing to enjoy about fighting." Ant Man replied with a sower expression on his face.
"You're doing it wrong then." Hulk replied with a chuckle.
"As much as I wanna agree with ya big guy. If we don't do something, lots of people are gonna get hurt." Ben explained as he looked over the battle. "Plus, you really think you can sit back while a fight is going on and not smash something? If that's the case, fine. More for me."
Hulk turned his gaze to the Young Hero who smirked at him. This caused the Gamma Bruiser to grunt with a confident smirk of his own. "Can't let you have all the fun."
The Alien Teen held up his fist, which Hulk gladly bumped his massive fist against. "Now you're talking, Jade Jaws"
"Hey, don't get any ideas, Ben." Wasp snapped turning around to face him. "You're not going anywhere without me, especially into a war zone."
Bens jaw dropped at her words. Was she seriously gonna try and stop him from doing his job as a Hero?
"You can't be serious, Janet?" He asked, dumbfounded.
"I'm dead serious, Young Man. You are not leaving my side until it's save." She ordered, fiercely.
Now Ben knew she'd gone too far. This is beyond her being concerned for her friend and teammate. She was talking to him like he was a child. Yes, he ran off without telling anyone and they got worried for his safety. But it's not like this was the first time he got himself into trouble. He's been a hero for longer than most of the other members of the Avengers, especially Wasp. He's proven time and again that he's capable of looking after himself in a fight. So why all of a sudden was Janet acting like he's an inexperienced 10 year old?
Unfortunately, Ben didn't get a chance to call her out on it as Black Widows voice chimed in on the communicator.
"The tracer I planted on Strucker's ship is active." She relayed to the others. "We can find him and make sure he doesn't get close to the cube."
Widow pressed a key on her console and the signal from her tracker, appeared on the radar in front of Hawkeye. The Archer immediately turned the jet to pursue it and the remaining heroes were about to follow until Iron Man paused for a moment.
"Hang on, I'm picking something up." He said, as his scanners locked onto the main AIM ship. "That's MODOC's energy signature. JARVIS, scan the ship."
His HUD zeroed in on the readings that his suits scanners were picking up. The image zoomed in and began to X-ray the ship. Immediately Iron Man saw the giant ugly face of AIMs leader MODOC, floating inside. But as he scanned through the ship, he saw some kind bright object within a containment field inside the ship.
"Wait, what?" The Billionaire said in a confused tone.
All of a sudden, a massive surge of power pulsed through Iron Mans suit, causing him to scream in pain as his armor seemed to overload due to the feedback from his scan. The resulting surge of energy cause his suit to shut down and the plummeted to the docks below him.
Seeing the danger the Armored Avenger was in, Captain America turned to his co-pilot with an alarmed look on his face.
"Wasp, make sure he's okay." He ordered.
"On it. Come on, Ben." Wasp said as she shrunk down.
"No, Ben stay put." Cap ordered.
Wasp froze in place and looked at the Super Soldier in shock. "B-But Cap…."
"This is a war, Wasp. We need all our best on the front lines." He explained, with his tone shifting into a very authoritive one. Reminded everyone why his rank is a Captain.
"I really think that…" Wasp started to say before…
"Janet, this is no time for you to deal with your personal feelings. Keep your mind in the fight and on the people, who are in danger. Do I make myself clear?" Captain America barked at the size changing Heroine.
Everyone, including the Hulk was stunned by Caps response. The man usually so calm and understanding in the field, but this was the first time he actually raised his voice to someone. And honestly Ben respected him, a little more. Up until that point, he'd been very passive about Wasps behaviour towards Ben, but now that this attitude might actually put people at risk. The Sentinel of Liberty was having none of it.
Wasp opened her mouth to protest but found she couldn't. It was hard to argue with someone who made complete sense. So, she turned and flew to the side door of the jet. But not before stopping next to Ultron.
"Ultron, listen up. I want you to protect Ben. Don't let him out of your sight and keep him safe." She ordered the mechanical being.
"Understood. Miss Van Dyne. Primary Directive. Protect Ben Tennyson." Ultron responded.
Wasp nodded satisfied, before glancing back at the Alien Hero with a worried look on her face. Ben gave her a confident smile and a thumbs up, to try and reassure her. But that did not alleviate her of her worry as she exited the jet to find Iron Man.
Once she left, Ultron immediately walked over and stood directly next to Ben and stared down at the Teen with his cold, red eyes.
"Ok that's a little creepy, dude." Ben told the Robot.
"My orders are to not allow Ben Tennyson out of my visual range." Ultron replied.
"Well I'm ordering you to look somewhere else." Ben countered with a cheeky smirk.
"Error, unable to comply." Ultron responded. Causing Ben to raise an eyebrow in confusion.
"Say what? Why not?" The Young Hero questioned. Usually Ultron follows everyone orders. Hawkeye once had Ultron do his laundry when he was bored. Ben even had the Robot do monitor duty for him one time, while he beat his high score in his video game. Why would it not listen to him now?
"You do not have the authority to overrule the commands issued by Janet Van Dyne." Ultron stated.
"Janet? Why would you listen to her over me?" Ben asked confused.
"Hank Pym is the primary user. Janet Van Dyne is the secondary user. She is superior to you." Ultron stated.
The Teen Hero rolled his eyes at the robot and slumped in his seat with his arms crossed. "Well that's just great." He said sarcastically.
"Worry about it later, Ben. Keep your mind on the current situation." Captain America told the Alien Teen as he set the jet down on the ground and he prepared to move out.
Meanwhile, Iron Man's suit finally managed to reboot after crashing into the docks, creating a small crater as he did. The Iron Avenger stood up and brushed some of the debris from his suit. Grunting and coughing as he did so, the force of the impact really did a number on him. Luckily for him, the emergency impact systems kicked in as the power went out in his suit. Allowing him to be able to survive a fall like that without the armors main safety functions. Otherwise he would have essentially been falling in a very expensive coffin.
"Okay, what was that? My whole system just shorted out when I tried…" Iron Man started to say before he was cut off, as a giant Hydra Octo-Tank erupted from the water behind him.
Out of the corner of his eye, Iron Man saw a second Octo-Tank climb over a nearby Cargo ship. Its mechanical tentacles wrapping around the vessel, as it proceeded to crawl over the ship and march into the city.
But before the Armor Wearing Hero could pursue the invading war machines, the one that appeared behind him, slammed its tentacles next to him and aimed all its cannons directly at him.
"This is gonna be a long day." Iron Man sighed as his eyes widened.
He quickly turned around and tried to activate his thrusters. However, his systems hadn't fully recovered from the overload causing his thrusters to weakly puff out smoke. Hearing the sound of the Hydra Tanks weapons charging up to blast him, Iron Man quickly accessed the controls in his wrist to try and force a manual reboot. Cause he knew that even though his armor is durable enough to withstand bullets and basic energy bolts, without the support of his shields, it would have no chance against the main cannon of that Hydra Tank.
"Agh, come on. Come on, you stupid armor, reboot. Come on!" Iron Man yelled as the area around his started to glow and he could feel the heat through his armor as the cannon nearly reached firing strength. In his panic, Iron Man started to frantically strike the controls with his armored fist to try and get them to respond.
Suddenly something slammed into Iron Man from his right side, tackling him out of the way as the massive cannon opened fire. Unleashing a massive energy beam that vaporized the area that Iron Man was just standing in. The Armored Avenger rolled across the floor before scratching to a halt. Groaning in pain, he looked down to see his savior was Wasp, in her normal size.
The Size Changing Heroine quickly got to her feet and activated her coms. "Cap, we've got giant atomic robo-monsters coming into the city by the pier." She informed as an Octo-Tank marched past her, firing its cannons at overhead AIM ships, blasting a few out of the sky with ease.
Her attention was then brought back to Iron Man as he got into a sitting position, rubbing his head while groaning.
"Oh, and Iron Man's okay." She added, annoyance dripping off her tone.
"Hulk, Ben and I will take care of Hydra. You and Iron Man keep after MODOC." Captain America ordered before cutting off the signal.
Wasp gritted her teeth in frustration. Clearly annoyed that she is unable to return to Ben in order to keep him out of trouble.
"Ugh I can't believe you, Tony. All that fancy tech and it takes looking at something to cause it malfunction?" She complained.
Iron Man looked at the Size Changing Heroine with a deadpanned expression under his faceplate.
"Your compassion is much appreciated, Janet." Iron Man responded dryly.
"And know I'm stuck babysitting you, when Bens out there, in who knows how much danger. And I'm not there to protect him." Wasp continued, apparently not hearing the Armored Hero.
"Umm, we are talking about the same Ben, right?" Iron Man asked, perplexed. "The same kid that can turn into aliens that are practically invulnerable, phase through matter and even be the size of sky scrapers? The same kid that also outsmarted the Masters of Evil and Kang the Conqueror? That Ben?"
"Yes, and also the same KID that got captured by AIM and was almost cut open like a Frog in a Science Class! So, forgive me for not wanting Ben to get taken by those creeps again!" She yelled back, hysterically.
But before the Iron Billionaire could attempt to calm her down, a bright spotlight appeared above them. Both Heroes looked up, with Wasp's frustration increasing as she wondered how her situation could possibly get worse. The answer quickly came to her as they were staring directly at the SHIELD Helicarrier that was floating above them.
A hatch opened up on the underside of the flying fortress and several SHIELD Agents, armed with energy rifles and winged jetpacks, deployed and flew down to the two Avengers, surrounding them on all sides. The Armored Avenger and Size Hanging Heroine looked at the agents in confusion. Did they not see the massive armies of two Villainous Organizations, currently engaged with each other while also attacking the city? Why did they look like they were about to arrest them?
"Um, I don't know if you guys noticed, but Hydra's invading New York." Wasp pointed out angrily.
"We noticed, Wasp." A familiar voice called out. The two Agents in front of the duo stood aside as Female Agent walked forward. She is a fairly tall woman with a slender yet muscular body, short brown hair, tan skin, and brown eyes. She typically wears a standard issue S.H.I.E.L.D. uniform, consisting of a full-length black body suit with knee-length black boots and white gloves, alongside a gun holster strapped to her left leg. She wore a winged jetpack like the other Agents as she approached the Heroes.
"Agent Hill." Iron Man addressed the SHIELD Second in Command, with a clear detest in his voice.
"Director Hill." The Female Agent corrected, with equal vigor. "And I'm putting this entire city on lockdown including the Avengers."
Elsewhere in the city, Hydra and AIM soldiers battled in the streets. Taking cover on either side of the streets and using overturned cars as cover, Hydra and AIM troops fired at each other with various forms of weaponry. One AIM Drone used a large shoulder mounted weapon that fired a yellow beam at a car the Hydra soldiers where using as cover and the beam caused the car to be surrounded by the beams energy and proceeded to rise off the ground, leaving the Hydra soldiers exposed. The Hydra troops were momentarily stunned by the situation that some were too slow to react and where easily gunned down by AIM Drones, while the rest of the troops took cover behind another car. Once behind cover, one Hydra soldier aimed his weapon at the Drone with the Tractor Beam and shot him, taking the weapon out of commission.
As both sides continued to engage with each other, they failed to see a large swarm of ants emerge from the sewer grates on either side of the road. The insects swarmed swiftly and converged on the AIM Drones, crawling up their suits and chewing through the materials to get inside and attack them. The AIM Drones all started to panic and scream in pain as the red wave enveloped them. Similarly, the same happened to the Hydra troops on the other side as the red wave of ants washed over them as Ant Man flew on his ant mount commanding his insect army.
A stray energy bolt broke his concentration as the Size Changing Hero turned to see more AIM Drones charging into the area, weapons raised and prepped to fire. Unfortunately for them, their limited combat experience meant that they failed to check their surroundings before entering the battlefield. Thus, they were unaware of any threats from above, before they were hit by trick arrows and darts, courtesy of Hawkeye and Black Widow respectfully.
The two spies jumped out of their jet to the ground below, landing amidst a squad of AIM Drones where they instinctively stood back to back and started taking out enemies left and right. They moved in such unison, as if the last few months never happened, when they were still partners. Like they knew what the other was thinking and what move they would make before they even make it.
"Just like old times, right?" Hawkeye commented, reminiscing of the old days. Course despite the nostalgia, the Archer couldn't help but throw in a few gabs in. "Expect for all the lies and betrayal."
Black Widow gritted her teeth as she punched an AIM Drone in unconsciousness, before glancing over to her former partner.
"You think it wasn't hard for me, Clint?" She replied.
"Which part, framing me or beating me up?" Hawkeye shot back, while also firing an arrow past Widows shoulder to trap two Hydra soldiers in a putty arrow.
The Super Spy remained unflinching as she looked Hawkeye square in the eye.
"I had my orders. You would have done the same thing." She stated. Her expression neutral and her tone stoic. To many people, it would seem like she didn't care how her actions affected her partner and trusted friend. But luckily, Hawkeye knew her better than that. For a while, he thought everything he knew about her was wrong, that she merely manipulated and used him, strung him along like a toy only to be discarded when she deemed necessary. If he was being honestly, he was angrier with himself for falling for such a trick. After everything he'd been through in his life, he thought he was a fool for letting her get close.
But when she saved him from Baron Von Strucker on Hydra island, Hawkeye began to get suspicious. Then when she came to the mansion and explained her mission, all the pieces fell into place. She was still the same Black Widow that he fought alongside all those years, the same woman he trusted with his life over and over, the same woman he…
"I don't believe that." Ant Man suddenly spoke up, flying down, hoping off his ant and growing to full size. "Hawkeye was your partner, and your friend. Couldn't you have just tried trusting him?"
"No." Black Widow answered, without hesitation.
"I just don't understand that." Ant Man replied, shaking his head.
"I do." Hawkeye said, stepping forward. Ant Man looked at the Archer with a surprised expression. After all the times Hawkeye talked about her betrayal and now hearing that she basically didn't trust him to tell him that she was undercover. Now he was willing to let all that slide?
"I don't like it, but I get it. Undercover is undercover. She couldn't have gained Strucker's trust without doing what she did." Hawkeye explained, clarifying to Ant Man. He then looked at Black Widow with a cheeky smirk on his face. "I must had been one big pain in your butt."
In response, Black Widows cold expression actually faltered, and a small smile appeared on her face. "You have no idea." She chuckled.
"And thought Jan and I had problems." Ant Man sighed as he watched the exchange.
Hawkeye looked over at the Size Changing Hero with a raised eyebrow. "Problems like her completely ignoring you and fusing over a teenager with the most powerful weapon in the galaxy strapped to his wrist?"
In response, Ant Man let out another sigh and shrugged his shoulders. "Janet's just feeling a little protective, right now. I'll talk to her about it, when she calms down."
"When? Before or after she locks the kid up in a Vibranium bunker?" Hawkeye asked incredulously.
But before Ant Man could answer, the trio heard a beeping sound coming from Black Widows pocket. The Scarlet Spy reached into her pocket and removed a small cellphone like device that displayed a digital map with a blinking green dot on the screen. After viewing the information on the screen, Widow looked up at the nearest Hydra transport that was about to take off.
"That one." Black Widow said, pointing to the vehicle. "That's the ship the tracer signal is on."
Immediately Ant Man sprang into action, pressing his Pym Particle belt, he grew into Giant Man and grabbed the ship in midair and slammed it into the ground, crippling the craft. Black Widow and Hawkeye rush towards the craft and aim their respective weapons at the entrance to the craft, expecting a strong counter attack from the leader of Hydra. However, they were surprised when Giant Man ripped off the door to the craft and only three Hydra Soldiers fell out. The Spy Duo aimed their weapons at the closest soldier who looked up at them. But instead of panicking, the Soldier rolled over, got to his knees and reached into his pocked casually, as if he didn't care that two of the deadliest fighters in the world weren't threatening him.
"Baron Strucker wanted you to have this, traitor." The Hydra trooper spat at Widow, before tossing her tracker at her.
The Scarlet Spy grabbed the tracker and examined it in her hands. This was indeed the tracker she had placed on Baron Strucker. She turned to Hawkeye, who had the same worried expression on his face as she did. Strucker was on to her, when and how he found out about her double agent status was unclear at this point. But the fact is, her cover has been blown, meaning that any intel she has about Hydra at this point, may all be completely useless.
"Uh-oh." Hawkeye said, practically summing up the whole situation.
The battle continued to rage through the city as the AIM squad of ships flew through the skyline in their efforts to evade the pursuing Hydra forces. As they passed over one building, a Hydra Octo-Tank rose up from among the buildings and aimed its primary cannon at the lead ship. A hatch opened up on top of the cannon and a missile deployed, launching from the platform and heading straight for the lead ship. Before the missile could hit its intended target, one of the AIM crafts following the main ship, moved to intercept the missile. The explosive projectile struck the smaller craft, blowing out its engines, causing it to fall from the sky into the water below.
The Hydra Tank prepared to fire at the lead ship again, but the giant green form of the Hulk descended from the sky, landing on top of the war machine and with one swift punch, knocked the cannon clean off the and proceeded to tear the rest of the vehicle apart with his massive hands.
As Hulk continued to break his new toy, Captain America, Ben and Ultron ran down the street to catch up with the Gamma Bruiser. The Super Soldier held up his hand to signal to the Teen to stop as they reached a junction in the road.
"Ok Ben, Hulk and I shall take the right flank. You and Ultron deal with the left." He ordered, much to the Teens surprise.
"Woah, seriously?" Ben asked, wide-eyed. After all the overprotectiveness from Janet, for Cap to send him off without his supervision certainly caught him off guard. Even if he still has the robot babysitter watching him.
"Yes. We need to cover as much ground as possible. Just keep your guard up and stay in radio contact." The Super Soldier told the Young Hero. His face conveying the sheer amount of trust he placed in Ben.
He smiled and gave the Super Soldier a mock salute. "Aye, Aye, Captain."
Captain America responded to the Teen Hero with a nod before running off to engage the Hydra ground forces near Hulk.
Ben ran down his street , with Ultron hot on his trail, while also activating his Ultimatrix and cycled through his aliens, trying to pick the right one for this fight. As he cycled, the Alien shapeshifter couldn't help but think about this whole situation. If Hydra was really attacking AIM in order to obtain this Cosmic Cube from them. Then why is AIM remaining within the city limits. Why would they not take the Cube somewhere else or at the very least, fly away from the city and not remain within an airspace where the odds of them being shot down only increase as time went on?
Black Widow said, Hydra intended to take the Cube before AIM could finish it. Which would make sense and the fact that the world still looks the same, is a clear indication that AIM hasn't finished the device. But still, if AIM's goal was to simply delay Hydra to by them enough time to finish the Cube, why do it in a city where a large population of known superheroes are located? Not to mention SHIELD and other law enforcement agencies. Ben knew that despite his over the top antics, MODOC was no idiot. He had to have known that engaging Hydra in a place like New York City would definitely attract attention and draw in more opposition to hinder him…
Unless that was his intention all along?
The Alien Avengers eyes widened as he started to put the pieces together. AIM wanted the fight to be out in the open to draw in the heroes to engage them, in order to further delay Hydra. Assuming Hydra doesn't know about Black Widows double agent status yet, neither side would be aware that the heroes know about the Cosmic Cube. And considering that Hydra possesses superior numbers and is known worldwide as the most notorious terrorist organization, while AIM is merely regarded as tech thieves and dealers. The Heroes would most likely target them over AIM. Had it not been for Black Widow telling them about the Cube, MODOC's plan would've actually worked. With MODOC unaware that the Avengers were also after the Cosmic Cube, this whole situation might be easier than the Alien Shapeshifter thought.
He was so lost in thought, that his guard was so low that he was completely unaware of his surroundings as he passed by a dark ally, Ultron suddenly shoved the Teen out of the way as an explosion erupted right in front of him. Luckily for Ben, the mechanical being shoved him into the ally, shielding him from the blast. Ultron looked over at Ben appearing to check his condition.
"Subject, Ben Tennyson. Unharmed." The Robot turned to look at the Hydra forces currently advancing towards him, including another Octo-Tank, its cannon still smoking due to recently being fired. Ultron's eyes glowed as he marched forward towards the Hydra troops.
"Primary directive. Protect Ben Tennyson." Ultron said, his monotone voice actually sounding very threatening at he advanced on them.
Ben got up and was about to join his robotic comrade when suddenly a hand shot out of the shadows, grabbed him by the shirt and pulled him back, catching him completely off guard.
Ben grunted as the hand forced him against the wall in the dark ally. His instincts kicked in and the Teen Hero tried to go on the offensive, but the unknown assailant was fast and admittedly stronger than him as the mystery being quickly grabbed Bens left wrist and forced it to his against the wall, above him while their free hand covered his mouth. Ben tried to use his free hand to fight back but the assailant pinned his arm with, what felt like their knee. He then felt the mystery attack press their body against him to further pin him to the wall and restrict his movement. The positioning and strength of the individual rendered the Young Hero practically immobile.
It was during that moment that Ben discovered that his attacker is a woman, going off the fact that the hands gripping him were dainty, yet powerful, the leg pinning his right hand felt very smooth and firm and, by far the most obvious, he could feel two large and soft mounds pressed up against him. That or this person really over did the padding in the chest area. Had this not been a high-pressure situation, the Young Hero would definitely have a particular reaction to this setting.
As his eye adjusted to the darkness of the ally, the Alien Avenger started to make out the features of his mystery woman. She had long raven hair that flowed down her back and over her shoulders, the top half of her face was covered in a red mask, leaving the lower half exposed to show off a pair of full red lips that glistened in the light. Her mask was primarily red with a yellow upside-down triangle in the middle of her forehead. Her eyes where covered with white lenses. The mask seemed to join to a full, skin tight bodysuit that, from Bens current position, seemed to be mainly red as well, however he noticed that her gloves were yellow, which extended up her forearms, stopping short of the elbow. But he couldn't make out anything else due to his heads position and the close proximity the woman had to him.
Ben tried to struggle, but it was no use. The woman had a vice grip on him, not to mention he her crazy strength despite her deceptively small frame. The Young Hero couldn't help but mentally kick himself. His first day back in the field after the whole kidnapping fiasco and not 5 minutes in and some mystery strong girl, gets the jump on him. Did his years of experience and training decide to take a year off? He was his world's greatest hero and here he is, getting captured like a rookie. Maybe Janet had a point? Maybe he couldn't handle himself anymore?
That line of thinking actually frightened the Alien Avenger. He quickly pushed that thought aside. No way was he gonna let her get inside his head. He is Ben Tennyson, Savior of the Universe, Hero of Heroes. He's been saving the world since he was 10 years old, he was not some helpless kid that needed to be rescued or protected. No matter the situation, he always finds a way to beat the odds. And he wasn't about to give up now.
Clenching his fists, Ben tenaciously tried to fight against his attacker, his futile efforts to overpower her actually caused her to chuckle. A giggle that the Young Hero actually found pleasant to listen to. A cute little laugh that had a certain melody to it that actually made Ben calm down slightly.
"Oh my, quite the fighter aren't you." The Woman said in a sweet voice. "But how about we calm down and not alert your killer robot friend."
Upon her request, Ben actually stopped struggling. For some reason the silkiness of her voice, coupled with the sweet-smelling fragrance, he detected from her, cause the Young Hero to calm down.
"There's a good boy. I just want to talk. But if you still want to be rough, I suppose I can help you relieve some of that stress." She said in a playful seductive tone.
Once again Ben could feel waves of euphoria wash over him, his mind feeling compelled to go along with whatever this woman wanted. But suddenly his mind flashed back to Carol, how he felt about her and immediately snapped out of it. What was going on, and why did this sensation feel so familiar?
The woman leaned in closer to him, pressing her body up against him, causing the Young Man's body to start to feel like jelly and his mind to go fuzzy. He knew he had to resist her, but a majority of his body either couldn't or didn't want to.
"You still are so much cuter up close. You should come by the apartment again some time." The woman said, further confusing the Alien Hero. She leaned in close until Ben could feel her breath tickling his left ear, causing him to shiver. "I'll even wear the dress again. You remember? The one with that fits me like a glove."
Then it immediately dawned on the Teen, he suddenly remembered why this whole situation felt so familiar, why this woman felt so familiar. Jerking his head to the side to free his mouth from beneath her glove, he looked the woman straight in the eyes.
"Jessica?" He said, surprised.
The Mystery women, grinned extatically as she released her grip on Ben and stepped away giggling.
"You guessed it. Such a clever boy. Now you win the big prize. Take your pick. Kiss on the check? Or care to see if this suit looks better off me than on?" Jessica said in her usually playful tone that caused the Teen Hero to blush in response.
"I… Umm…" Ben said awkwardly, only making the raven-haired woman giggle more.
With her taking a step back, Ben could now see her suit properly and it still left little to the imagination. As he initially saw, the suit is primarily red, with yellow gloves and boots. There was also an upside-down yellow triangle in the center of her chest, just above her impressive cleavage and just under them a yellow arrow-like pattern that covered her stomach and went all the way down to her waist. It took all of Bens willpower not to focus on those parts of her costume. But something else that caught the Teens eyes where a pair of white pieces of fabric that were under each of her armpits, connecting from the elbow, to just above the hips. They looked like a pair of glider wings on a wingsuit, but they resembled… Spider webs?
The teen Hero shook his head from the thoughts as he looked at the woman in front of him with shock and confusion.
"Wait a sec. What are you doing here, Jessica? And what's with that outfit?" Ben asked. Trying very hard not to stare.
Jessica looked down at her suit and held out her arms as if she was showing it off to him. "You like it? This is my field uniform."
She then did a full spin in front of him, which gave Ben a full view of the whole set up. And even though he tried to resist, her movements were too fast and his mind went fuzzy enough to view every curve and how tight that suit clung to ever part of her well-toned body. But he quickly managed to regain composure before she could face him and see his dumbfounded expression.
Ben cleared his throat, before addressing the most obvious issue. "What kind of work requires a uniform like that?"
"Carol did mention that we work together, right?" Jessica questioned.
"Well, yeah. But what kind of secret agent wears a suit like that?" Ben responded, growing ever more curious.
"The super powered kind of course." She stated, as if it were obvious. "When in the field I go by the codename, Spider Woman."
That did make some sense to the Teen Hero, beings with powers do tend to wear unique outfits that fits their abilities. After all Hawkeye was an agent working for SHIELD and his suit didn't match the regular Uniform other agents like Carol or Coulson wore. But one thing did puzzle him.
"Wait, Spider Woman? Any relation to Spider Man?" Ben asked, raising an eyebrow.
In response, Jessica, now known as Spider Woman, sighed and placed her hand to her forehead. Clearly this was not the first time someone asked her that question.
"No." She stated, annoyed.
"Did he give you, your powers?" He probed.
"No." Came her response.
"Didn't give you blood transfusion? Power syphon? Bitten by the same spider that…"
"No! He and I are completely unrelated in every single way." Spider Woman snapped, clearly frustrated by the comparison.
"Oh…" Ben said, feeling a little bad for upsetting her. But a cheeky smirk appeared on his face as he looked at her. "So, you just completely ripped off his name huh?"
Hearing the accusation, Spider Woman scoffed at the Teen Heroes jab at her. But upon seeing his sly smirk, she adopted a smirk of her own as she walked back over to him and started to slide her hand up his chest to his collarbone, causing him to get a little nervous.
"You are so cheeky. Any other time, I would've had to discipline you." She said in a flirtatious tone. "But as much as I'd love to go over my origin story with you, preferably over drinks, I am here on official business."
The way her tone shifted from playful to serious, alerted Ben to the gravity of the situation.
"What's going on, Jess?" Ben asked.
Spider Woman went on to explain the situation with Maria Hill as acting director of SHIELD and her current objective to recruit the Avengers into her ranks, by any means necessary. Hearing this news, certainly caught the Alien Avenger off guard. Sure, he and the Avengers always had a rocky relationship with SHIELD, what with Nick Fury using Carol to manipulate him, but aside from that Fury seemed to be willing to at least work with the heroes. But this chick, granted Ben never really interacted with her before, going as far as threatening to arrest the Avengers if they didn't join SHIELD in the middle of an all-out war between Hydra and AIM seemed pretty idiotic, especially for someone who's now in charge of a global peacekeeping organization.
"Last report I got was that Director Hill had cornered Iron Man and Wasp at the harbor." Spider Woman finished explaining.
"This is crazy. Does she really think now is a good time to have this conversation?" Ben asked, surprised.
Spider Woman sighed as she shrugged her shoulders. "All I know is that, she ordered everyone to arrest any Avenger they come across. Which is why I told Carol to patrol the upper east side of the city."
Ben gave the Raven-haired Spider Heroine a confused look. "Wait, why would you tell Carol to go where the action isn't?"
To which Spider Woman gave the teen a look that said, 'Are you serious?' which made the Teen Hero nervously scratch the back of his head.
"I mean, she wouldn't really arrest me. Right?" Ben asked, in an uneasy tone.
"Ben, this is a girl who is so uptight about rules she'd give her own grandma a speeding ticket, for riding her scooter too fast at the mall." Spider Woman stated.
As much as Ben wanted to disagree, he couldn't deny that his girlfriend is quite the stickler for rules. He thought back to the time they played mini golf together and she almost melted her club when Ben accidently tapped his ball and said that didn't count as his turn. So, if her superior says that he should be arrested, then it's likely she would actually do it.
Begrudgingly, Ben conceded to the Spider Themed Heroine's logic. "Yeah, ok. I see your point."
However, before either of them could continue, the sound of a weapon charging up is heard and the pair turned to see Ultron, standing in the entrance of the ally, his wrist mounted energy blaster deployed and aimed directly at Spider Woman. The shadows contrasting against his red eyes, made the robot look extremely intimidating. Even Ben felt a chill run down his spine, seeing the machine in this light. Jessica even took a step back at the sight of the robots death glare.
"Primary directive. Protect Ben Tennyson." Ultron stated, coldly. "Action. Neutralize all threats."
Realizing what the robot is referring to, Ben immediately jumped into action and leaped in front of Jessica with his arms raised in a placating action. Jessica clung onto Bens shoulder as she hid behind him from the Terminator like machine.
"Wait, Ultron! She's not a threat. This is Jessica Drew, she's a friend and a SHIELD Agent!" He shouted quickly and clearly.
For a moment, Ultron kept his aim on the young woman. His metal face completely unreadable, meaning Ben had no idea what was going through the robots, artificial brain, motherboard, whatever. But he let out a sigh of relief when Ultron retracted the blaster and lowered his arm.
"Command accepted. Jessica Drew, Agent of SHIELD. Status, Friend and Ally of Ben Tennyson." Ultron confirmed.
Now Jessica released her own sigh as she let go of Bens shoulder. "Since when do you have a Terminator, bodyguard?"
"I don't. Wasp kinda ordered him to look after me cause she's being a little paranoid that I'll be kidnapped and can't take care of myself." Ben explained with an annoyed tone.
"Well. She kinda has a point." Spider Woman pointed out with a cheeky grin. "I mean, it was pretty easy for me to get the drop on you. Had I been a supervillain, you'd be completely at my mercy."
"Hey, I would've escaped." Ben argued.
"Sure, you would have, Sweetie." She responded in teasing tone as she playfully tussled Bens hair.
The Teen grunted as the pair walked out of the ally, past Ultron and stopped in their tracks with their jaws hung open. They were in plain view of the remains of Ultron's little battle with the Hydra squad. All the troops where unconscious, either splayed out in the street or smashed through cars or the sides of buildings, the Octo-Tank had been completely destroyed with part of its metal skull shaped cockpit, completely torn apart or vaporized. Ben looked back at the robot in shock and awe. This thing managed to do all this, and it didn't have a scratch on it. Where when they had an army of robots like him, they got blown up, just as easily as Kang's Scarab Drones.
"What the… How the… You did all this?" Ben eventually asked the Robot.
"My Primary directive is to protect you, Ben Tennyson. I will not fail, my mission." Ultron simply stated.
"Yeah I get that." Ben responded in a snarky tone. "I mean, how did you do all this and not get a scratch on you?"
"Data collected from past confrontations indicate that standard model units were flawed. Upgrades needed to be made to this chassis." Ultron explained.
"Really. Hank upgraded you to be capable of this?" Ben asked skeptically. The Teen Hero had very high doubts that a pacifist like Hank Pym, who designed Ultron to be a peace keeping robot that was meant to rehabilitate criminals, would equip this thing to be able to take out an entire squad of Hydra soldiers alone, without a scratch. That didn't sound like a peace keeper. It sounded like a weapon of war.
"…. Yes." Was all Ultron said in response.
Bens and Jessica glanced at each other with confused looks. Did Ultron just, hesitate to answer a question? It was as if the robot actually thought about whether or not it should answer the question. Sure, Ultron is mainly programmed to follow Hanks orders and to a lesser extent, Janet. But it always followed any order the members of the Avengers gave it and it would always answer any question almost instantly. This kind of behaviour seemed very out of character for the machine.
Then again, Hank never wanted the robot to be used for violence. And he did say that he based the AI of the human brain. So, Ultron admitting that he was upgraded to be used for combat, could just be something Hank put in there as a way to show how ashamed he is about doing that. Plus, it's not like Ultron can actually lie to him. Robots don't lie, unless you program them to, and its unlikely that Hank would ever put that code into Ultron.
"Ok then. Well thanks for the save, Metal Head." Ben said, giving Ultron a pat on his silver shoulder.
Ultron glanced down at Ben, his red glowing eyes making him feel uneasy once again. The Alien Hero took a mental note to ask Hank to give his robot a friendlier face, to make interactions less uncomfortable.
The sounds of more explosions sounded around the city drew the Teens attention as he, Spider Woman and Ultron proceeded down the street towards the commotion.
"So, I don't suppose you guys know exactly why AIM and Hydra suddenly went all World War 3 on the city?" Spider Woman asked, as they headed towards the fighting.
Ben mentally smacked himself in the head. Of course, she wouldn't know what was going on. Only Fury knew Black Widow was a double agent, so she wouldn't have told them what was going on.
The Teen Hero sighed as he glanced back at the raven-haired super-agent. "Ok, brace yourself. Cause its kind of a long story. So, get this…" Ben started to say, as he begun explaining everything he knew.
Hulk roared as he brought down another Octo-Tank while Captain America wrestled with several Hydra Agents. The group had apparently decided to dogpile the Super Soldier, in hopes that all of them combined would be enough to overpower the War Hero. What they failed to take into consideration was that Captain America, didn't earn the title of Living Legend, merely for wearing red, white and blue.
The Super Soldier used his skills in combination with his superior strength, punching and tossing his attackers aside, one by one. Apparently, Hydra knew that their foot soldiers were not going to be enough to stop Captain America as he looked up to see an Octo-Tank bearing down on him.
Freeing his arm, Captain America slammed his shield into the faceplate of the Hydra agent trying to steal it, knocking him away and proceeded to ram the edge into the back of the one grappling with him from the front taking him out, leaving him free to easily dispose of the last one with a spin kick to the chest, knocking the wind right out of him. The Super Soldier then hurtled his shield directly at the massive war machine. The patriotic disc flew through the air and smashed right through the left eye of the advanced machine. The indestructible shield bounced and sliced through the internal structure of the vehicle before smashing though the other eye and returning to its owners' hand. Smoke and explosions erupted from the Tank before the entire war machine crashed to the ground as a pile of scrap.
Hulk walked over to Super Soldier as the giant vehicle fell, grunting at the sight. Though even he had to admit the shot was pretty impressive. Though he'd never admit that aloud.
"Lucky shot." He merely commented.
"If you say so, big guy." Captain America cheerfully responded with a smirk. Before facing him full on with a serious expression. "Now, remember, watch out for civilians."
In response, Hulk glared down at the Star-Spangled Hero. Narrowing his eyes as he gritted his teeth.
"Is that why you teamed up with me? To protect people from the monster?" The Gamma Giant growled, pointing a finger accusingly at the Super Soldier.
In that moment, Captain America finally understood something about the Hulk. No matter how much they had all been through with him, the Jade Giant still had difficulty trusting his teammates. And that he still believes that they see him as nothing but a monster.
"Stow that talk." Cap said, without hesitation. His tone and expression conveyed the seriousness of his words. "I want you to protect civilians from Hydra. They're the monsters here, not you. In my day, we had a name for someone like you."
Hulk raised his eyebrow, his anger still present on his face.
"Yeah, what's that?" He asked, believing he already knew the answer and expected the Super Soldier to finally say it.
"Hero."
Hulk reeled back in shock. He honestly didn't expect to hear that. Granted there have been people that called him a hero before, like Rick Jones, Betty Ross and even Ben. But none of them had the same impact on him as Captain America.
"I've been watching you, Hulk." The Super Soldier continued. "No matter how scared people are of you, no matter how much you're hounded, you always do the right thing. And that makes you a hero in my book."
The Captains words hit the Hulk like wrecking ball. Whether it was simply how he said them or the fact that the Super Soldier had never told a single lie the entire time the Hulk had known him. Either way, hearing those words come from his mouth, Hulk felt more inclined to believe them.
"Now, how about we smash some more Hydra goons?" Captain America suggested with a confident smirk.
Hulk grinned at the Captains request as he turned around and leaped back into battle. Roaring with excitement rather than his usual rage.
Captain America grinned with pride as he witnessed the Hulk knock out a Hydra jet from the sky. But before he could get back into the fight, a clicking noise was heard behind him. The Super Soldiers instincts kicked in as he prepared to turn around to face his opponent. But even with his enhanced speed and reflexes, he could tell from the clear sound of the gun cocking, the proximity of his enemy. Close enough to have a clear shot, but far enough so that he's just out of reach from the Super Soldiers reach. So even if Captain America is able to take out the soldier, he would not be able to prevent the soldier from hitting him. All the Super Soldier could do was hope that nothing vital will be hit.
His adrenaline rushed as he spun around. From his perception, the world appeared to be moving at slow motion. As his enemy came into his peripheral vision, he could see the Hydra Agent had his rifle aimed right at him. From the angle of the weapon, Captain America could deduce that once he pulled the trigger, the bolt would pierce his lung. Even if he took him down, Cap knew this might be a fight he won't be walking away from. Still if this was his time, he would go down defending the innocent as a true Avenger.
Suddenly a blue laser bolt shot forth from the left and hit the Hydra agents gun, knocking it away, before a second bolt hit the soldier in chest, taking him down.
Captain America stopped in his tracks, stunned from what just happened. But with his guard still up he turned to where the shots came from to locate his mysterious savior. But to his surprise he saw the familiar face of Agent 13. The blonde SHIELD Agent wore her usual white skin-tight suit and wielded a pair of blaster pistols. The Super Soldier lowered his guard in the presence of the female agent, recounting their last encounter.
"We have to stop meeting like this, Captain." Agent 13 said in a cheerful tone. "People might think Captain America is going soft, if I have to keep saving you."
"Every soldier needs backup. Even me." Captain America responded with a smirk.
Agent 13 gave the Super Soldier a cheeky smile as she holstered one of her guns as she walked over to him.
"I'm glad I found you, Captain Rogers. There's a situation you need to know about." Agent 13 told him.
"I'm well aware of Nick Fury's disappearance." The Super Soldier stated.
Hearing that did cause the SHIELD Agent to blink in surprise. But quickly composed herself to get back on topic.
"I see. Well there's more to that, I'm afraid."
"You know I've got one question." Spider Woman said as she Ben and Ultron continued to run down the street.
"I'm all ears." Ben replied, though slightly puffing from the run.
"You have aliens with super speed and flight. So why are we just running down the road, like we're part of some weird charity jog?" She asked.
"Like I said, the whole point is to stop or capture either MODOC or Baron Strucker. And since I've got no idea where either of them are, I need to wait and save power so when we finally do catch them, I don't time out mid fight." Ben explained.
"And what if we run into some trouble on the way?" Spider Woman questioned.
"Well Ultron can blast them, you can web up the rest and I'm no slouch in a fight. I don't need to transform in every fight I'm in." He stated pretty confidently.
Spider Woman gave the Alien Avenger a confused look. "Web them up? Uh I don't use webs, Benji. That's Spider Mans thing. Stop trying to compare me to him."
"Oh…" Ben said slightly embarrassed. "Sorry, I just assumed. Spider theme and all that webs were a part of the deal."
"Well there not." Spider Woman stated matter of factly.
"So, what exactly can you do?" Ben asked curiously.
"Well I've got the super strength, agility, wall crawling and heightened senses. Though not as advanced as Spider Man in the last department. I can also secret pheromones that make men fall for me and can also…."
"Woah wait. What?" Ben interrupted, stopping in his tracks. "What was that last one?"
Spider Woman stopped a few feet ahead of him, then turned her head back to him with a coy smile on her face. "What the, pheromone thing?"
"Yes that." Ben replied, getting a little aggravated. "Is that why I get so fuzzy around you? You've been messing with my head?"
"Kinda. And your reaction is so cute." Spider Woman said in an innocent tone.
Ben wasn't sure how he felt about that. Jessica seemed like such a friendly person. But now that he knows she's been messing with his head during their encounters. He couldn't help but wonder how far that manipulation went.
"So, every time we've talked, you've been manipulating me?" Ben asked, accusingly.
"Oh no, Ben. You've got it all wrong." She said, holding up a placating gesture.
Ben crossed his arms as he glared as the Spider themed Heroine. "Ok then. Enlighten me."
Spider Woman sighed as she shifted her weight on her feet. "I can't really control it. The Pheromones just seep out at times. Makes all the guys attracted to me. It's not that I want them too, I don't abuse my powers like that. That's why I have to wear a special perfume that negates the effects. But it doesn't last very long. But I promise, I never once used it to make you do anything. I swear."
The Alien Hero held his hard stare on the Female SHIELD Agent. Wouldn't be the first time an agent tried to manipulate him. And one with the ability to make him do what she pleased, really set him on edge. But if she really wanted to control him, why tell him about that power in the first place? From what he could tell, Jessica is not like the other Agents, Ben had met. Certainly not like Carol, as she's looser with the rules and procedures than Carol. Plus, as Carols best friend, there obviously must be something trustworthy about her.
"Alright. Were good." Ben said casually, dropping his arms.
"Oh thanks, Ben. I knew you'd understand." She said giddily, jumping onto him and wrapping her arms around him in a tight hug, her skin-tight suit pressing against him, causing him to blush slightly.
"Jess, this isn't the time. We need to find the Cosmic Cube." He said, his voice muffled by the raven-haired Heroine's embrace.
"Oh right." She said, letting him go. "The magic box that the bad guys think can rewrite history. How do you think we could find that?"
"Hmm, not sure." Ben said, placing his hand to his chin in thought.
He casually glanced over to Ultron, who kept his optics on Ben. That's when Ben recalled hearing Hank mention how Ultron's AI is more advanced than any computer and is able to process data better than Iron Mans equipment. Even though Iron Mans suit overloaded scanning AIMs lead ship. That doesn't mean Ultron's would.
"Ultron, scan for high levels energy from all AIM ships. Look for the highest energy signature." Ben ordered the robot. If this plan worked, then they'll be able to track down the Cosmic Cube. If not, well then Ben will finally be able to ditch his Nanny Bot after the energy signature overloads him. So, either way, it's a win-win for him
Ultron looked up to the sky and started to scan all the aircraft flying over the city. Until finally settling on one area.
"Energy signature detected." Ultron reported. "Analyzing. Energy levels steadily rising. Point 1 percentage per 5 seconds."
Ben was surprised by how quickly Ultron was able to locate and analyses the energy signature so quickly. But guess that's what he gets for continuously doubting human technology. At least in this universe.
"What's this supposed to prove?" Spider Woman asked skeptically.
"This thing is supposed to be a powerful weapon capable of changing reality. Something like that's gonna take a lot of power to pull that off. By that logic, the highest concentration of power is where our super weapon is." Ben explained.
Spider Woman chuckled as a small grin appeared on her rosy lips. "Cute and smart. Carol really got lucky, landing you. I'm almost jealous."
"You think that's impressive. You should see me when the real fight starts." Ben said in a cocky tone. Causing Spider Woman to giggle in response.
Ben turned his gaze back to the sky as he looked at the main ship that Ultron detected the energy signature in. "That's the ship we need to go after. Now all we have to do is take it down."
No sooner had he said that, one of the Hydra jets following the AIM vehicle, got a lucky shot in and destroyed one of the engines of the craft, sending it plummeting from the sky and crashing into the warehouse district in a fiery explosion.
"…Well that's Part 1 of you plan done. What's Part 2?" Spider Woman asked.
Ben was a little stunned by the events that just transpired. But the Spider Heroines words brought him out of that stupor as he gathered his thoughts.
"Right ok. Well I guess next we head to the crash site and get the cube before anyone else gets their hands on it."
"Ok then. Let's get going." Spider Woman said confidently.
Ben nodded as he activated the Ultimatrix and selected his alien before slamming the dial down. Transforming in a flash of green light.
"ASTRODACTYL!" The Pterosaur alien squawked.
He spread his wings and walked over to Spider Woman, with the intention of carrying her to the location.
"Oh Ben, I'm flattered, and I know you're just trying to be a gentleman. But there's really no need. This girl can get by on her own." Spider Woman said politely.
The Alien Avenger gave the Raven-Haired Agent a confused look. "Bawk. But you said that you can't swing on webs. How are you supposed to get there in time without me carrying you? Bawk."
"Like this." She replied confidently.
She proceeded to jump to the nearest building and climbed up the side of it, similar to Spider Man. Then once she was part way up it, she pushed off from the wall and spread her arms, extending the web-like fabric underneath them like wings. To the surprise of the Alien Teen on the ground, the web-wings actually managed to catch her, and she sored through the air, turning to the direction of the crashed AIM ship.
"Bawk! Um, Spiders can't fly, can they?" Astrodactyl asked, albeit rhetorically.
"All known species of the order Araneae are incapable of flight. Though several species are capable of using their silk to glide on air currents." Ultron answered.
"Thanks Dr Roboto. Why don't you tell me all about the other insects that can't fly?" He responded sarcastically as he activated his jetpack and flew after Spider Woman.
"False. The order Araneae is completely separate from the class Insecta…" Ultron started to say as he activated his thrusters to pursue the two Teens.
Meanwhile back at the docks, Iron Man was doing his best to explain the situation to the now acting Director of SHIELD, Maria Hill. If Iron Man was being completely honest, he really wished Nick Fury were here right now. Cause at least Fury seemed to actually support what the Avengers stood for and seemed to be on their side. In his own, paranoid super spy way. But Maria Hill was a completely different story.
"Okay, look. I know you and I got off to a rocky start, Hill, but we need to work together here. The Black Widow says that AIM has created a weapon of incredible power, and we have to…" Iron Man tried to explain only for Hill to cut him off.
"We don't have to do anything." The Acting Director stated snidely. "The Black Widow is a traitor working for Hydra. You expect me to believe her? The bottom line? You Avengers are vigilantes, and unless you join Shield right here and now, you're criminals as well."
Wasp clenched her fist in response to Hill's statement. They are trying to save the city and she actually has the nerve to call them criminals. Not only that, but the longer this conversation goes on, the more Ben is going to get into trouble and she won't be there to save him. But worst of all, SHIELD is now threatening the Avengers. Meaning that once again the Spy Organization is targeting Ben. There was no way Wasp was going to let that slide.
Fortunately for everyone's sake Iron Man noticed this, his armor also informed him that its systems have successfully rebooted meaning all functions were back online.
"I've had about enough of you." Iron Man stated bluntly at the SHIELD Director. "I'm going after the Cosmic Cube, which is dangerous, as it turns out. You're welcome to help. Come on, Jan."
The Armored Avenger activated his thrustors and took to the air, while Wasp gave Maria Hill one last death glare before shrinking down and flying after him.
Director Hill watched them go with a stone-cold expression. Without hesitation she reached up to her communicator and contacted all her agents.
"Take them down." She ordered.
Immediately the Agents present, took off with their jet packs after the two Avengers, weapons armed and ready. Once they had a clear shot the SHIELD Agents opened fire on the pair. The Avengers duo quickly took evasive actions with Wasp weaving though the oncoming energy blasts and retaliating with her stingers, striking one Agent in the chest and knocking him out of the sky.
Wasp and Iron Man then split up forcing the SHIELD squad to do the same, with a majority pursuing the later and only two going after the former.
The Agents chasing Wasp continued to fire on her, but her small size made it almost impossible for them to hit her. Unfortunately for them, they were so focused on trying to hit her, they failed to notice she had led them right into the path of a nearby crane. The Leading Agent let out a scream as he was unable to maneuver out of the way in time and ended up crashing into the metal structure and fell to the ground.
As that went down Iron Man was trying to handle his pursuers. Unlike Wasp who seemed to be venting her frustrations out on the Agents, he was mainly doing his best to lose them. It was in moments like this, he wished he was wearing his Stealth Armor. But as such, he'll need to resort to other tactics. The SHIELD Agents fired their weapons at him, blue energy blasts blasted towards him, his armors sensors alerting him to their proximity.
"JARVIS Shields!" The Armored Billionaire barked at his A.I.
Immediately a transparent blue energy sphere, projected itself around him, causing the energy bolts to impact against it.
Already alarms started to pop up on Iron Mans heads up display, worrying the Armored Hero. Using Energy shields is always a risky move as they put tremendous strain on his arc reactors power supply. The more its used, the faster his reserves will run out, forcing him to stop and give the reactor time to recharge. If he uses up the Arc Rectors power before that happens, then it would be used up completely and shut down, which includes the life support system needed to keep his heart running.
This is why Tony built the armor, using highly durable materials, so he wouldn't need to rely on energy shields all the time. Which is normally fine against small time criminals and certain super villains as bullets and other weapons like that, would simply bounce off the metal. But high-level energy weapons, like the ones SHIELD utilize, they can cause some serious damage if enough of them hit. Meaning Iron Man needed to come up with some kind of solution to this situation before things got too out of hand.
Just then a new symbol appeared on the HUD. Knowing exactly what that information meant, Iron Man knew exactly what he needed to do.
The SHIELD Agents fired another barrage of energy blasts at Iron Man, a majority of them being reflected off his shields. But suddenly the shields appeared to malfunction and deactivate, allowing the remaining bolts to strike the Armored Avenger in the legs, deactivating his thrusters and causing him to fall from the sky.
Iron Man crashed back into the docks, tumbling across the wooden pier before falling off into the water of the bay. The SHIELD Agents chasing him along with Maria Hill, landed on the edge of the pier to examine the area in an attempt to locate him.
Suddenly a cry of pain, called out from behind the squad and Maria Hill turned to see one of her Agents fall from the sky and crash a few meters behind the group. The injured Agent groaned before falling unconscious as a very ticked off Wasp floated down and approached the SHIELD Director. Her hands glowed with energy as she glared at the short haired woman.
But Maria Hill looked completely unfazed by the Size Changing Heroine attempt to intimidate her. Even when she aimed her glowing hands right at her eyes.
"I don't know what your deal is, Hill. But I'm gonna give you one last chance. Stop attacking the Avengers and get out of our way. And if I find out one of your guys, hurt anyone on my team. I will shrink down, fly into your brain and zap it till all you'll be able to do is sip your meals through a straw as you drool into the carpet!" Wasp snarled at the Female Director. The intensity in her eyes indicated that she meant every word.
However, even with that threat, Maria Hill's cold expression remained unbroken.
"No, you got one last chance, Wasp." She responded sternly. Locking her eyes with Wasp as the two women stared each other down, as if daring the other to make the first move.
Their little showdown was interrupted, by the sound of thunder crashing through the sky and lightning, illuminating the heavens as clouds started to swirl above the group, making the Agents, except Maria Hill look nervous. Suddenly several bolts of lightning burst from the clouds, each one landing a precise hit on each Agents weapons, destroying them instantly. The Agents yelped in pain and clutched their injured hands as Thor floated down on the scene. A hard expression on his face as he glared at the SHIELD Agents threatening his teammates.
Out of the corner of her eyes, Hill saw the shadowy form of Black Panther land on top of a nearby cargo crate. Finally, Iron Man erupted from the water behind her, revealing this was his plan all along. To stall for enough time for reinforcements to arrive. Now it was the Avengers that held all the cards.
Wasp continued to hold her glare on Hill, her glowing fists, looked ready to burst from all the power she was putting into them. With Thor and Panther here, perhaps she can finally go and find Ben. But if Hill tries to stop her, what other tricks could SHIELD be hiding up their sleeves to use against them? If she took down Hill, right there and now, maybe the rest of SHIELD will stand down, or she could make Hill order them to stand down. One way or another, she was not going to let anything happen to Ben. Not this time.
"You've got till the count of three, Hill." Wasp threatened as she aimed her stingers, drawing Maria's attention away from Iron Man. "One… Two…"
The tensioned rose exponentially as Hill still refused to budge as Thor and Panther looked ready to fight.
"No!" Iron Man suddenly called out. Flying down to the ground and getting between the women. "Thor, Panther, Wasp, just stop. We're not going to fight SHIELD."
Begrudgingly, Wasp lowered her fists and the energy within them dissipated. Iron Man could tell that tensions were still high in the Size Changing Heroine and he'd rather not have her try to escalate things any further.
"Wasp, go and help the others. We'll wrap things up here." He ordered.
Wasp's only response came in the form of a nod as she took off, leaving other others behind. With his biggest loose cannon out of the way, Iron Man turned to Maria Hill and gave her a hard stare.
"My team is going out there to save the world. Either work with us or stay out of our way." He stated.
Hill narrowed her eyes at the Armored Hero. Then looked down as she activated her communicator.
"This is director Hill to the Helicarrier." She started to say. For a brief moment, Iron Man actually thought he got through to her. That she might actually be willing to listen and work with them for the greater good.
"Fire on the Avengers."
… Or not.
Immediately the ground shook and the sound of churning water could be heard behind the heroes and they all turned around to face what kind of attack SHIELD would unleash upon them.
But to their shock, it wasn't the Helicarrier, it was an Octo-Tank rising out of the bay. Its main cannon charged up as it immediately fired upon the Helecarrier. A massive beam of yellow energy tore through the air and collided with the flying fortress. Even with its heavily armored hull, the SHIELD base would not be able to stand up to that kind of firepower for very long.
"Avengers, save the Helicarrier!" Iron Man ordered without missing a beat and the team instantly leapt to action. Despite whatever issues they may have with SHIELD at the moment, one thing will never change. The Avengers are heroes, first and foremost. No matter what, they will always put the safety of others above all else.
At the same time, the trio of Astrodactyl, Spider Woman and Ultron arrived outside the warehouse of the crashed AIM ship. On route, Spider Woman suggested that they stick to stealth and make sure the room is clear before entering. After a quick scan, Ultron informed them that the only signature he could detect within the building was MODOC. Hearing that, caused the Alien Avenger to grin, as he's been looking forward for a chance to payback the Big-Headed AIM leader for kidnapping him.
The Trio landed on the roof with Astrodactyl and Spider Woman approaching the skylight and peering through the skylight near where the ship had crashed, they saw the remains of the ship, including the bodies of AIM Drones sprawled through the room. Patches of fire where scattered through the building, slowly spreading at a rate that would soon start to compromise the structural integrity.
Just then a pile of rubble started to move and the massive form of MODOC emerged from it. His chair hovering in place as he started to survey the area.
Astrodactyl clenched his fist and started to move on him, but Spider Woman grabbed his shoulder and held him back.
"Not yet. We don't know if he's got that Cosmic Cube thing on him yet." She warned.
The Alien Teen nodded in agreement. Best to wait till they had all the information they needed before moving on him.
The pair watched as MODOC started surveying the area, apparently looking for something.
"Damage assessment, negligible. Searching." The AIM leader said aloud, in a computer like tone.
The Giant floating head turned to a different section of the burning building and gasped as his eyes widened. The SHIELD Agent and Avenger turned their gaze to where MODOC was looking and there, sitting on a pile of rubble, is a small, glowing, blue cube like object.
It was roughly 7x7 centimeters on all sides and emitted a light blue glow. From context, this is no doubt the Cosmic Cube that AIM and Hydra were fighting tooth and nail to obtain. From the look of it, it didn't seem that impressive. But the Alien Teen knew not to ever underestimate something based on its appearance. One thing that the Alien Teen knew, was that there is no way he would let AIM or Hydra get it.
He was about to make his move again, only for MODOC to pause as a voice called out from the smoke.
"The game is over, you disgusting monster." Came of the voice of Baron Strucker as he emerged from a wall of smoke with four Hydra soldiers flanking him. The Hydra leader had his arms crossed behind his back as he stood confidently against his former ally.
"The cube is mine. Had you just given it to me, I would have allowed you a place in my new world. Instead, you get a grave."
In response, MODOC glared at the Hydra Leader in anger as he gritted his teeth.
"I am MODOC. I cannot be defeated!" He roared as the red square on his forehead glowed and fired 5 energy beams simultaneously at Baron Strucker and his troops. Each beam struck its intended target in the head, causing them to cry out in pain and fall to the ground unconscious.
"I am designed only for conquest!"
But the Baron seemed to be a little more resistant for a man his age, as he managed to remain conscious and push himself up from his position on the ground. Lifting his head to see MODOC approach the Cosmic Cube, his stubby arm stretched out to touch it.
"BAWK! That's it. I'm not waiting any longer." Astrodactyl squawked as he blasted though the skylight, above the villain. Deploying his energy whips as he descended and slashed them forward, striking him in the chest, sending him flying back.
"Hands off the glowing box, Mr. Mackey. BAWK! Don't cha know, ya can't open your gifts till Christmas Day?" The Pterosaur-like Alien quipped, as Spider Woman and Ultron dropped down to join him.
MODOC grunted as he steadied himself and glared daggers at the newly arrived heroes.
"The world will belong to AIM! Non shall stand in the way of the genius that is MODOC!" He yelled with pure determination.
"Sheesh, no wonder his head is so big. No way he could contain that much of an ego in a regular sized one." Spider Woman jabbed, which only increased the Artificial Beings already burning rage.
As they were busy dealing with the Floating Head, the group failed to notice Baron Strucker as he reached for his belt and removed a communication device, where he proceeded to activate it.
"Dreadnoughts, destroy MODOC and the Avengers." He commended into the device.
Without missing a beat, three giant metal orbs burst through the opening that Strucker had entered through and positioned themselves around the heroes and MODOC. The orbs then transformed, turning into large 15 foot tall humanoid robots, consisting on swamp green and black metal with a metallic, skull like head in their hunched shoulders, four spikes on their back, large metal arms with the right being a normal hand, while the other is a large spinning drill.
The three war machines bore down on the group.
MODOC glared at the one approaching him, its drill arm whirling with deadly intentions.
"Mindless Automatons. MODOC will not be defeated by you!"
The AIM Leader fired a beam from his forehead, but the Dreadnought activated an energy shield, similar to Iron Mans, that blocked the energy bolt with ease.
As MODOC dealt with one of the robots, the heroes where left to take on the other two.
"So, are we teaming up with MODOC now? That can't be good for our whole Hero image." Jessica quipped as she dodged one of the robot's massive fists.
"BAWK! I think it's more like a two birds' situation." Astrodactyl commented before firing a green beam of energy from his beak at the robot in front of him.
But like with MODOC, the Dreadnought activated its shield and blocked the attack. Seeing how effective the shield is and the fact that Ben had read up these war bots in Hydra's files. He knew just how durable these things are. Durable enough to take anything his current form could dish out.
He reached up and tapped the Ultimatrix Dial, in a flash of green light the Dino Alien turned into the orange furred, muscle bound and all round aggressive feline known as….
"RATH!" The Alien Avenger roared as he glared at the Dreadnought. "Let me tell you something, mechanical robot designed by HYDRA to tear apart it's enemies! You can deflect lasers because they don't have a solid form! But Rath is solid, and by that logic, Rath can hit harder than any laser can!"
Spider Woman couldn't help but giggle at the nonsensicality of Rath's speech. But she couldn't comment as her Dreadnought opened its mouth and deployed a small flame thrower within it. The Metal Menace spewed a wave of fire at the Spider Heroine, but she easily dodged the flames and proceeded to leap onto the Giant Robots back. She lifted her hands up and they began to glow and crackle with yellowish-green electricity. She slammed her hands into the Dreadnought and unleashed a massive bolt of electrical energy right into the War Bot.
The Dreadnought started to jolt and spaz out from the attack as Spider Woman jumped off it. Seeing the display of power, Rath narrowed his eyes at the Raven-haired SHIELD agent.
"Let me tell you something, Spider Woman, Agent of SHIELD who tried to attack me earlier, but is now helping me! Rath is starting to think you're lying about being a spider! Spider's don't shoot electricity on their hands! They shoot them from their butt!" He shouted at her.
"Ugh, gross." Spider Woman, responded with a look of disgust on her face. "Keep your mind out of the litter box, Tony Tiger."
But before Rath could continue ranting, the Dreadnought he was supposed to be fighting, came up behind him, grabbed him by the head and proceeded to flip him over and slam him into the ground, imbedding him partially into the wooden floor.
"Ugh! Let me tell you something, Hydra Dreadnaught that embedded me into the floor! Taking advantage of Rath being solid by burying Rath into other solid material is not cool!" Rath's muffled voice screamed from within the floor.
In response Ultron leaped into action by flying into the Hydra Robot with enough force to knock it off balance.
With his opponents occupied Baron Strucker grinned with delight as he walked over and kneeled before the Cosmic Cube. In this very moment, everything he had been fighting for, everything that Hydra had been working towards. Soon it will all come to be. With just one touch of the Cube, all his desires would be accomplished. With victory so close at hand, the Hydra leader couldn't help but revel for a moment.
"Now, the world will be remade in Hydra's image." He said joyfully as he reached his left hand towards the cube. His devilish grin growing ever wider.
At that very moment, however, Baron Strucker was completely unaware that outside the window to his left, across several city blocks, with a couple of buildings standing between them, Hawkeye had an arrow notched in his bow, with the string pulled back, apparently aiming at the unexpecting Baron somehow. Positioned atop the arrow, holding on tightly and looking quite nervous, was Ant Man.
"You're sure you can make this shot?" Ant Man questioned.
"He'll make it." Widow said with complete confidence.
After their plan to track Baron Strucker failed, Hawkeye and his group had to resort to tracking down the Hydra Leader the old fashioned way. Fortunately for them, Black Widow's espionage provided her with enough information on the Baron to know how he thinks and what his most likely course of action would be. Which would be going right after MODOC to obtain the Cosmic Cube. And thanks to Hawkeyes keen eye sight, they were able to locate the lead AIM ship just before it was shot out of the sky. Somehow Hawkeye was able to see the commotion going on within the warehouse from their distance, including where the Cube was and the Strucker was closing in on it.
So now Ant Man was about to be the first human to be fired from a bow, in order to save the world. The Archer couldn't help but smirk as he recalled how Hank had voiced his skepticism of Hawkeyes skills. Time for the scientist to eat those words.
A simple flick of the fingers and the arrow flew from the bow at high speeds. Ant Man held on for dear life and let out a scream as he shot through the air like a bullet, crashing through windows on one side of a building and exiting though the glass on the other side, blasting across the city skyline, over streets, cars, even a train before finally crashing through the window of the warehouse. Acting fast and calculating the arrows trajectory, speed and resistance from the wind and the number of windows he just crashed through on route, all in his mind, Ant Man launched himself off the arrow, the moment it crossed in front of Baron Strucker, while simultaneously enlarging himself to human size, just in time to deliver a powerful uppercut to Strucker's chin. Knocking the Hydra leader away, as he was mere inches from touching the Cube.
"Baron Wolfgang Von Strucker, you really don't want to touch that. It could be dangerous." Ant Man said condescendingly, a smirk present on his face.
Baron Strucker snarled as he got to his feet, while also wiping the blood from his mouth. He drew his sword and held it aloft, ready to engage his new opponent.
Just then one of his Dreadnoughts was tossed over Ant Man's head, landing just between the two.
Looking back, Ant Man noticed the fight going on behind him. Spider Woman continued to dart around another Dreadnought as, much to his surprise, Ultron tackled a third one away from what looked like the bottom half Ben's alien form Rath, angrily kicking his legs in the air, while the top portion of his body is imbedding in the floor.
His attention drifted to MODOC, as he was the one to throw the Dreadnought, eye burning with rage as he focused solely on the Hydra leader. The Techno-organic being started to make his way towards Strucker, when suddenly a large hand erupted from the floor and grabbed the base of MODOC's chair, halting his advance. MODOC looked down with a shocked expression as Rath pulled himself out of the floor he was partially buried in and proceeded to grab the floating head with his other hand and held him on his side above his head.
"Unhand me, beast! No creature can hold MODOC for long!" MODOC demanded as he pathetically flailed his arms and legs around like a turtle who'd fallen on his back.
But Rath either didn't hear the Artificial being, or was simply ignoring him as his attention seemed to be focused on the Dreadnought that was currently engaging Ultron.
His blatant disregard of MODOC only served to further enrage the villain as his forehead started to glow.
"Insolent Avenger. My mental bolts will tear your mind apart!" MODOC yelled as he unleashed a bolt of energy from his forehead that arched in the air and struck Rath directly between the eyes.
But unlike when the mental bolts struck the Hydra soldiers, Rath had no reaction to the energy pouring into his mind. As if there wasn't a mind to scramble in the violent prone Alien.
Needless to say, MODOC was shocked by the effect, or lack thereof. "Not possible."
"Let me tell ya something, Hydra Dreadnought! You think that's how you bury someone's head in the ground? Rath will show you how you bury someone's head in the ground!" The Alien Tiger roared at the mindless machine. "Chimera Sui Facebuster!"
MODOC yelped in surprise as Rath proceeded to hurl the AIM Leader head first into the ground as such a force, he was blasted through the floor, into the levels blow and also burying him halfway into the solid ground below. The AIM leaders legs kicks wildly in the air as Rath smirked at the comedic display.
His good mood did not last long as a pair of mechanical arms were deployed from MODOC's chair and proceeded to lift the AIM Leader out of his hole.
The Alien Avenger growled as he leaped down after his opponent to continue their fight.
"Let me tell you something, Mental Organism Designed Only for Conquest! Rath just spent ridiculous amounts of time arguing about being solid with a stupid Hydra robot! So when Rath tells you to stay in the ground, you stay on the ground! Unless you want Rath to turn you from solid to liquid!" He yelled on the way down.
With his main opponent taken care of, Baron Strucker turned his attention back to the current hero in his path. A grin appeared on his face now that he had some extra muscle to deal with the annoyance.
"Dreadnought, execute this fool!" He commended.
Immediately the War Bot advanced on the Size Changing hero, its weapons primed and ready to destroy its target.
"Oh, boy." Ant Man said nervously as the Giant Robots shadow loomed over him.
He quickly dodged to the side as the Robot attempted to impale him with its massive drill. He activated his Pym Particles and immediately grew into Giant Man, however given the size of the room and the failing structural integrity, the Size Changing Hero could only grow to about 20 feet in height. At that current size, he was not strong enough to crush his opponent, but he could at least fight it on equal footing.
Not wanting to waste any more time, Strucker swiftly dashed towards the Cube. But in that moment, Captain America and Agent 13 burst through the window and seeing the Baron's advance towards the world changing item, the Super Soldier quickly leaped into action, intercepting the Hydra leader and tackling him away. As Captain America kept the Baron busy, Agent 13 took it upon herself to secure the Cube. But with no equipment to properly contain it, with everything the Captain had told her, she could not risk touching Cube for risk of unintentionally changing reality. Meaning all she could do was stand by it with her pistols drawn and keep anyone that was not an ally away from it.
Baron Strucker tumbled across the ground until he slammed against a stack of crates as Captain America stood tall, looking down on the elderly man. Strucker snarled as he got to his feet and charged the Super Soldier. But due to his old age and Captain America's superior abilities, he easily dodged the Baron and slammed his palm into the Hydra Leaders back, pushing him into a pile of rubble.
The Hydra Leader got to his feet again and faced his long time enemy, rage burning in his eyes. But in his anger, he foolishly rushed the Super Soldier once more where he was easily avoided and swatted by the Super Soldier, tripping over and whacking his head against the hard-wooden crates, appearing to knock himself out.
Captain America looked down at the frail Hydra Leader, despite the fact that they are enemies and all the times that Cap had fought Strucker during the war, he could not help but feel sympathy for the Old Man. All the years of fighting and endless hatred and what did it get him? Beaten in a burning building, all in the pursuit of an item that may or may not work. Hardly a fitting end for any man, even one such as him.
The Sentinel of Liberty walked over to his fallen enemy, grabbed him by the back of his shirt and lifted him up. Intending to at least take him to get medical attention.
But the moment he lifted the Baron to eye level, Strucker's Satan Claw shot forth and grabbed Captain America's face. The Super Soldiers eyes widened as the cybernetic limb glowed and waves of purple energy started to flow from Captain America through the limb and into Baron Strucker. The Elderly Hydra Leader grinned as the wrinkles in his face disappeared and his body grew stronger as his Satan Claw absorbed the life energy from Captain America, like a sponge in water.
The Sentinel of Liberty dropped to his knees as his life force continued to be absorbed by the Baron.
"CAP!" Agent 13 shouted as she aimed her weapons and fired at the Hydra Leader.
Baron Strucker leaped back to avoid the bolts with incredible reflexes as Captain America put his hand out to steady himself as his body shook from having a large portion of his strength taken from him.
Agent 13 rushed to his side, holstering one of her pistols to help Cap to his feet while keeping the other aimed at Strucker. Helping the Super Soldier to his feet, the pair looked over to the Baron as he reached down to his belt to draw his sword.
"Your strength is now mine, Captain. At last, I will finish this." Strucker stated vigorously. The life force he'd just taken from Captain America seemed to have restored his youth.
Narrowing her eyes in anger, Agent 13 took aim with her pistol and fired an energy bolt at the villain. Only for him to easily deflect the shot with his sword, with incredible reflexes, surprising the pair. Clearly the Baron did not just regain his youth from Captain Americas life force.
As the fight went on, Giant Man was having difficulty with his Dreadnought, especially when Spider Woman got tossed in his direction and her Dreadnought chased after her. In an effort to protect her, Giant Man reached out and grabbed the War Bot before it could get any closer to her and used his other hand to keep his own one at bay. But the pair of Hydra robots charged up their long-ranged attacks and prepared to fire them right at the Titan Avenger.
Luckily for him, Spider Woman managed to recover from her hit and glide to safety. This allowed Giant Man to release the Robots and shrink just as they fired, completely missing him.
But as the Ant sized hero descended to the ground from his sudden decrease in size, one of the Dreadnought's deployed its flame thrower and fired a torrent of flames at him. With no way to dodge, Ant Man could only watch as the inferno grew closer and closer to him.
Suddenly Black Widow dove from out of nowhere and intercepted the Small Scientist, grabbing him in her hand as she dived out of the way of the fire. The combat rolled onto the ground with Ant Man safely in her hand. Only to look up and see one of the Dreadnoughts bearing down on the pair, its drill posed to impale the Scarlet Spy.
The drill only advanced a few inches before an arrow struck the Dreadnought right in the head and exploded, decapitating the Robot, causing in to fall to the ground.
Afterwards Hawkeye promptly swing through the window on a grapple arrow, landing on a pile of rubble as he drew a new arrow.
"Everyone relax, I'm here to save the world. Again." The Archer quipped in his usual confident tone. But before he could gloat any further, he let out a yelp and dived across the room in order to avoid a series of missiles that the other Dreadnought fired at him.
The resulting explosion coupled with the fighting throughout the building, the structural integrity of the floor finally gave out as Captain America, Agent 13 and Baron Strucker all fell to the lower level, with the Cosmic Cube tumbling after them.
"CAP! HAWKEYE!" Giant Man yelled, having grown again to engage one of the Dreadnoughts.
Just then Hulk entered the warehouse and leaped over Giant Man to tackle the Dreadnought and proceeded to stomp on its head, crushing it like a tin can, rendering the machine offline.
"See? Fighting is fun." Hulk cheerfully commented. Which only got an annoyed expression from Giant Man.
Just as the Size Changing Hero could attempt to argue with the Green Goliath, the final Dreadnought rose up and aimed its mounted rocket launcher at the pair. But before it could fire, Ultron snuck up behind the Hydra Robot and rammed its fingers into the machines back, penetrating its armor. Red energy started to spread across the Dreadnoughts metal hide in a circuitry like pattern. The Robots eyes flashed red as its rocket launcher retracted.
In that moment, Spider Woman, unaware of Ultron's actions, leaped onto the Hydra robot and charged up her venom blast and unleashed the electrical beam directly into the robots' head. The robot sparked and glitched before finally shutting down and collapsing in a loud crash, alerting the two Avengers in front of her as they turned to look at her.
"So. You guys looking for any new members? Cause clearly you boys need all the help you can get." She said in teasing tone as she posed confidently on top of the downed robot.
"Who's the girl?" Hulk asked.
"I have no idea." Giant Man answered, equally confused.
Down in the power levels, Baron Strucker and Captain America both recovered from the fall and prepared to continue their fight.
The female SHIELD Agent, however winched in pain as she landed on her feet awkwardly and seriously injured her ankle.
Seeing her inability to fight, Captain America took a moment to move her out of harms way.
"I can still fight." She protested.
"I appreciate your valor Ma'am. But this is no time to be reckless." Captain America said commandingly. He then gave her a confident smirk "You fought well today. I'll be sure you hit him extra hard for you."
Agent 13 looked up at the Super Soldier and grinned. "I'll hold you to that, Captain."
Cap nodded as he turned to his opponent, who brandished his sword in preparation for their fight as the Super Soldier hoisted his shield. Despite his weakened state, the Captain had not lost one ounce of his spirit. No matter what, the threat of Hydra ends today.
The two old enemies charged at each other and their weapons clashed. They were so focused on fighting each other, they failed to notice the other fight that was currently going on near them.
Rath and MODOC clashed with each other. With the Alien Tiger ramming into the AIM Leaders energy shield and MODOC retaliating by deploying a pair of laser cannons and blasted Rath with a barrage of energy bolts.
The bolts all bounced off Rath's durable body, but still stung the Brutish Alien. Which only served to annoy the Alien Teen. Rath jumped at MODOC and tried to punch the villain, only for MODOC to activate his shield again to block his attack. The Bio Tech Villain fired a powerful beam of energy from his forehead that sent Rath flying back into a pile of crates, smashing them to pieces.
The Alien Avenger groaned as he got into a seating position. He put his hand on the ground to steady himself, only to feel something crack under his hand. Looking down, Rath's eyes widened as he saw what was inside these crates…. Top of the line Smoothie Machines.
Rage burned within the Alien Hero's eyes as he turned them on MODOC.
"You… Made me hurt the smoothies…" A primal, animalistic snarl passed through his fangs as he got to his feet. He clenched his fists as his claws extended twice their length.
"NO ONE! HURTS! THE SMOOTHIES!" He roared as he leaped at MODOC with such a force, that he created a crater where he was just standing.
MODOC deployed his shield once more to block the aliens strike. Unfortunately his advanced mind could not comprehend the strength of an enraged Appoplexian as Rath shattered the AIM Leaders shield and continued to punch MODOC in the face, with such force that he was sent flying across the room, impacting against the wall and falling down unconscious.
Rath glared at the Bio Tech Villain, panting with rage. But his attention was caught by the sound of metal clanging against each other. He turned to see Baron Strucker and Captain America fighting. Though Cap seemed to be slower than usual and sluggish, like he wasn't at 100%. Regardless of the situation, this was a fight and no way was Rath about to be left out. After all, he still had some pent-up aggression from what MODOC did to him.
Raising his clawed fists, Rath charged towards the two combatants, prepared to take down the Hydra leader with everything he's got.
But as he ran towards them, he failed to check his surroundings as the roof above him started to collapse form the battle going on above him and the fire. It quickly gave up and piles of rubble and even the remains of one of the Dreadnought's fell from the ceiling and landed right on top of Rath, knocking him down and burring him in a large pile of debris. Rath managed to push some of the rubble off himself, exposing his head. But the weight of the Dreadnought landing on his head was enough to stun him slightly and the amount of dust in his eyes, blurred his vision.
As the Alien Hero worked on regaining his senses, the fight between the Hydra Leader and Star-Spangled Avenger continued. And while Captain America may be weakened, he was still able to keep up with Baron Strucker, blow for blow. He even managed to strike the Baron hard enough to send him reeling back.
The Hydra Leader composed himself as he glared at the Sentinel of Liberty, even with the Captain strength added to his own, it would seem that it still wasn't enough to defeat him.
Just then the shifting of rubble caught the Barons attention and he spared a glance in the direction of the noise and saw Rath, groggily trying to free himself. In that moment an evil smile spread across Strucker's face. If his own strength isn't enough to defeat Captain America, then perhaps the strength of the Alien Shapeshifter will.
Baron Strucker reached out his Satan Claw to the Alien Teen, the red metal talons of the cybernetic limb stretched towards Rath's face.
"Rath, Look out!" Captain America yelled. Grabbing his shield in preparation to hurl the disc at his foe to protect the young hero. But given his sluggish state, he wouldn't be able to react in time to prevent the villain from making contact.
Rath heard the Captain's warning and blinked the dust from his eyes as he looked up just in time to see the Claw closing in on him.
Just then a small yellow light flew from out of nowhere and positioned itself between the Claw and Rath's face, causing the hand to grasp it, instead of him. A sudden scream filled the Alien Teens ears as the claw absorbed the life energy of whatever is in his hand. The screaming eventually stopped and Baron Strucker opened his claw.
Time stopped and his breath hitched in his throat as Rath's eyes widened in shock as he saw was fell out of Strucker's hand…
Wasp.
Her body now wrinkled and frail as her life force was almost completely drained from her, Rath's heightened senses could detect that she's still alive and breathing. But it is very faintly and weak.
"Wasp! No!" Captain America screamed. The Patriotic Avenger had a stunned expression on his face as he saw her limb body fall to the floor.
The Alien Avenger could only look at her stunned. She willingly sacrificed herself to protect him. Despite how he was acting towards her, how annoyed he was by her over protective attitude towards him, but he never expected for her to go this far for him.
For the first time in his existence, Rath had no words for this situation. This monster just hurt the first person he considered family in a long time. Now she was laying in front of him, barely clinging to life. Rath looked at the Monster that did this to her, seeing him grow younger and grinning as he stole years of life from her, boiled the Alien Teens blood. So much so that he even considered his current form as a tame punishment for what the Baron deserved.
Reaching up, Rath tapped the Ultimatrix dial and in a flash of green light, turned into Ghostfreak. Though he did not bother calling out the aliens name as he usually does.
After uncovering his eyes from the intensity of the light, Baron Strucker looked up at the Alien form in shock. As Ghostfreak's single eye burned with pure malice at the Hydra Leader.
"You are going to pay for that." The Ghost Alien threatened. His raspy voice sending chills down the Barons spine.
Even Captain America took a step back from the Alien Avenger.
Nevertheless Strucker quickly composed himself as he raised his blade to the Alien.
"Stay back creature! I do not fear you!" He said with conviction.
Ghostfreak narrowed his eye as he advanced towards the Baron. "You should." He said in a deadly tone.
Baron Strucker snarled as he made to swing his sword at the Alien, but that turned out to be a bluff to distract the Young Hero from his Claw as the limb shot forth and grabbed the Alien by the arm. Strucker grinned as now with the Shapeshifters strength added to his own, no man would be able to stand against him.
But the Barons confidence turned into shock as he realised that he could not feel any of the Avengers life force being drawn into him. He could tell the Satan's Claw is working perfectly, but for some reason he wasn't gaining any power from the Alien.
Ghostfreak could practically see the wheels turning in the Hydra Leaders head. As he looked down at the life absorbing limb and back at the Villain, seemingly smirking even if his mouth isn't visible.
"Funny. How you humans seem to think that the concept of life and death is the same for all species." He said in a deadly tone and Strucker's looked up at the Hero in shock as he started to put the pieces together.
The Alien Ghost then leaned closer to the Baron. "Let me spell it out for you. I'm a ghost, I'm not technically alive."
Strucker gasped as he released his grip on the Alien and backed away, his sword raised in an attempt to protect himself from his opponent. The Ghost Alien advanced on the Baron as his arms reached up to his chest.
"You hurt my friend. The gloves are off." Ghostfreak snarled.
He gripped his grey skin on either side of the black line on his body and pulled. The skin pealed back revealing dark grey, purple skin underneath. Baron Stucker, Captain America and Agent 13 all looked in horror as Ghostfreak's protective layer of skin fell to the floor revealing his true form.
A gangly ghost-like creature with long thin arms with four black talon like fingers on each. Black lines covered his chest, but the most disturbing part was that the aliens face is now visible. Revealing a deformed skull that was upside down with a single eye and black lips with deformed teeth jutting out from it. The Ultimatrix symbol is still present on the aliens upper chest.
The Hydra Leader stumbled from shock at the sight of the Aliens true form. His blade trembling in his hand as he desperately tried to hold onto the remains of his courage in the face of this frightening foe.
"B-Back you beast!" He yelled as he swung the blade at the alien.
But Ghostfreak turned intangible and the blade passed right through him. Baron Strucker stumbled from the momentum of his sword. In his panic he swung the blade again, in a vain attempt hit his opponent.
This time, however. Ghostfreak became tangible and caught the blade in his taloned hand. Fear splashed across the Baron's face as with a flick of his wrist, Ghostfreak snapped the blade in half. He then aimed his hand at the Hydra Leader, which started to glow with a purple aura. The same aura surrounded Strucker as Ghostfreak telekinetically lifted him off his feet and slammed him against the wall, then tossed him into the crates with enough force to shatter them.
The Alien telekinetically threw Baron Strucker against the wall, pinning him there, with his arms raised above his head. The Ghost Alien advanced on the Hydra Leader, the claws on his free hand extended.
"I should finish you. Make you pay for the countless lives you've taken." He snarled, stalking ever closer.
Agent 13 looked nervously at Captain America. Hoping the Super Soldier would try to stop the Alien Avenger. After all it seemed that Fury's and Hill's concerns about the Teen may be true. But to her surprise, the Super Soldier did nothing. He simply stood by and watched as the Ghost Alien was about to murder his opponent. Was Captain America really about to let someone be murdered like that?
The Alien Teen raised his talons as Strucker looked at him with fear. But after a moment, the Teen Hero lowered his hand.
"But then, if I did. I'd be no better than you." Ghostfreak said, backing away from the villain. He glanced back at Captain America, who smiled and nodded. The Super Soldier never doubted the Young Hero for a second.
Ghostfreak dropped his telekinetic hold on the Baron as he slid down to the ground. But before he could drop his arm an arrow shot down and struck Baron Strucker in his cybernetic arm, pining it, along with him to the wall.
Strucker grunted in pain as his claw started to spark and malfunction. Suddenly two purple trails of energy started to seep out of the Claw and flowed across the room. As they left his body, Baron Strucker's body started to wither and his wrinkles returned to his face.
The Alien Teen took notice of this and saw how one of the energy trails returned to Captain America and immediately the Super Soldier felt his strength returned to him as he stood tall, letting out a sigh of satisfaction, like he just took a good stretch.
Seeing the Captain regain his strength, Ghostfreak immediately turned his attention to Wasp and saw the other purple energy trail flow towards her. The Alien immediately rushed towards her, turning back into Ben as he did so and kneeled down next to her. He watched as the purple energy flowed into the Size Changing Heroine and her youthful appearance returned to her and breathing stabilised. While she was still unconscious, Ben could see she was ok and back to full strength. The Teen let out a sigh of relief, knowing that she was ok.
Baron Strucker looked up to see all the gathered heroes, looking down at him from the upper levels.
"Strucker, by the order of Shield you are under arrest." Black Widow announced.
"Yeah, take that." Hawkeye said in a snarky tone as he lowered his bow, having fired the arrow that pinned Baron Strucker.
The Hydra Leader glared at the Heroes, more specifically Captain America with pure hatred. His goals almost in reach. And once again this Patriotic fool with a shield stood in his way. Well not this time. Live or Die, Strucker will fulfil Hydra vision.
"Never!" He shouted.
He then tugged with all his might and he tore the Satan's Claw from his arm and shoulder charged Captain America pushing him back as he dashed for the Cosmic Cube. He used his free hand to draw his pistol and dashed towards Ben.
The Alien Teen was so occupied with his concern for Janet that he didn't notice the commotion until it was too late. He turned around, just as Baron Strucker, bashed him in the side of the head with the butt of his gun, knocking him aside, stunning the Young Hero.
"No!" Widow shouted as she started firing her stingers at the Baron. The other Heroes drew their respective weapons and fired as well, Spider Woman with her venom blast, Agent 13 with her gun, Hawkeye with his arrows. But in all the confusion and panic, they failed to coordinate and most of their attacks ended up hit each other or missing the Baron completely.
But Captain America quickly recovered from the Barons attack and immediately rushed towards the Cosmic Cube in pace with Strucker. The Hydra Leader tried to shoot the Sentinel of Liberty, but Captain America easily dodged the projectiles as they both bolted for the Cube.
In desperation they both leaped towards the Cube, with their hands outstretched. The Heroes could only watch helplessly as the pair reached the Cube and touched it. From their position, it was impossible to tell who touched it first. But that didn't matter anymore, as a bright blue light burst from the cube and consumed everything within the area. The Heroes all shielded their eyes as Ben, who managed to recover from his blow in time to see the light as he scooped Wasp up in his hands and held her close as he closed his eyes and braced for the impact.
Ben wasn't sure what it would feel like to have reality altered. But if this was really it, he only wished he could've seen Carol one last time and have a proper talk to Janet. He just wished there was more time.
A few moments passed, before Ben started to realize that he didn't feel any different. Was it because he was from another universe that reality warping in this world didn't affect him? That didn't sound very logical as he could still hear the crackling of the fire in the building.
He opened his eyes and saw that, nothing had changed. The warehouse, the Avengers and SHIELD Agents, even the Hydra soldiers and Baron Stucker himself, remained unchanged.
The Baron and Captain America rose from their position, the Cosmic Cube smoking as it dimly flickered on the ground.
"I-I don't understand." Strucker said as he looked around the room. "Nothing has changed. But - But I touched it, the cube."
Realizing that all his efforts have been in vein, Baron Strucker slumped to the ground and bowed his head in defeat. He had failed. He had given everything to secure a device that did not even work.
"It's over, Strucker." Captain America said as he stood over the defeated Hydra Leader.
The Heroes couldn't help but feel a little overwhelmed. Even Ben despite not living in this world for very long. But for many years the threat of Hydra had been a plague on the world. And now, in one fell swoop, they took them down. The day, is won.
A few minutes later, SHIELD Agent relief teams arrived to start cleaning up after the battle. AIM and Hydra troopers, weapons and technology where all packed up into transports to be properly processed.
Though even though the two most dangerous terrorist organizations where finally defeated. There was still a level of tension in the air. Mainly from the Avengers and SHIELD.
As the team watched Strucker and MODOC loaded up into their respective transports, Iron Man and Maria Hill stood next to each other, with the former having a smug look under his faceplate.
"So, the Avengers took down Hydra and AIM, saved your Helicarrier, and probably the world. Even after you shot at me." Iron Man commented smugly.
"Nothing's changed, Stark." Hill commented angrily. She then turned to face him. "I'm not giving the Avengers a pass. I'm not Nick Fury. I'm going to the president and congress. I want the Avengers registered and working for Shield. And I'm going to make it happen, whether you like it or not."
Iron Man narrowed his eyes at the Acting Director. He could tell she was serious, which made the billionaire question the future and safety of the Avengers. But that's a train of thought he'll have to catch another day. Right now, his team took down the bad guys and save the world. For now, he'd let them enjoy this moment.
As that was going on, Ben was walking around the warehouse. The fire had been put out and Janet had been taken outside to get some medical help, with Agent 13 and Spider Woman keeping a close eye on her. Something the Teen Hero was thankful for. At least there are some SHIELD Agents that are on their side.
As he walked though he noticed that the Cosmic Cube was still lying on the floor. The Teen couldn't help but smirk at the little cube. All this trouble over a device that turned out to be a dud. SHIELD would most likely lock this thing up, which seemed like overkill for something that was essentially a fancy night light.
Taking a quick glance around the room to make sure that he was really alone, Ben reached down and grabbed the Cube in his hand, it felt warm to the touch, but that was probably due to all the energy it used for that lightshow, and tucked it into his jacket pocket, making sure to keep his hand in there in order to make the bulge from the size of the Cube obvious.
He proceeded to walk outside to join the others, seeing Hulk and Ultron standing outside, with Hulk playfully poking the robots head, while it stood there motionless. Captain America was talking to Agent 13, where the two seemed to be getting along very well. Ant Man was sitting beside Janet as she was checked out by medics.
Ben was about to walk over to them, when suddenly a pair of arms wrapped around him and a familiar fragrance filled his nose.
"Our first successful mission together, Benji." Spider Woman said in a giddy tone. "We should think about doing this more often. We make quite the team."
It took all of Bens willpower to not say something he would regret, as the Spider Themed Agent's pheromones started to literally make him weak in the knees.
"If you're trying to give people the wrong idea. You're doing a pretty good job, Jess." Ben responded.
Spider Woman giggles as she let go of Ben and strolled around him till they were face to face. "Just having a little celebration after a big win. You come back to my place, we can have a little celebration of our own."
Her intoxicating aroma really made it hard for Ben to resist her. But he kept his thought's focused on Carol and quickly managed to recover.
"Look, you're a very attractive girl. But if I'm celebrating with anyone. It's gonna be with my girlfriend and your Best friend in case you forgot." Ben stated firmly.
Spider Woman locked eyes with Ben as he stared into hers. A smirk spread across her luscious lips.
"Indeed, she is. Well done, Ben." She said in a serious tone.
"Huh?" Ben blinked in confusion.
"Carol is my best friend. And because of that, I have to make sure that the guys she dates aren't creeps. You've felt the effects of my pheromones. Saw me in this suit and my actions. How many guys you think could resist me?"
Ben took a moment to think about it. If he were being honest, he couldn't think of any sane man alive that would be able to resist that kind of combination. It took all of Bens willpower and thoughts of Carol to keep him from actually acting on those advances.
"So, you're really…?" Ben started to say as the pieces fell into place.
"Oh, don't get me wrong, Benji. I do think you're cute and if Carol hadn't got you first, I totally would've gone for you. But as things are, I just had to make sure you really did care about her. And you do. So well done, you passed." She said happily.
"Um… Thanks?" Ben responded slightly confused. This was certainly uncharted territory for him.
"I'll be sure to let Carol know you're a keeper." She said with a playful wink.
Ben smirked at her statement. "Thanks, Jess. And I hope we do get to work together again one day."
"I'll call you." Spider Woman said flirtatiously as she hopped on top of a nearby car and leaped into the air, spreading her web wings and glided into the air.
The Teen Hero watched her sore with a smirk on his face. "There is no way she's just gliding." He commended to himself.
The Teen then heard the metal footsteps of Ultron, approaching him as Ben glanced at the robot.
"Question." Ultron said, alerting Ben that he was going to ask him something. "SHIELD is a law enforcement organization. Correct?"
Ben raised an eye brow to the Machines odd question. "Yeah?"
"Confusion. If SHIELD is on the side of the law and the Avengers are the same. Then why would SHIELD wish to arrest and detain the Avengers? Are the Avengers criminals?"
"Ah right." Ben said, finally understanding what the robot was getting at. "Well see SHIELD works to enforce the law, but a lot of those laws restrict them from actually bringing Justice to the world. The Avengers work to bring Justice, but we do it in a way that ignores most of those limitations so that we can help people better. But SHIELD doesn't like that and are trying to make us bend to their way of doing things, even if not very effective."
Ultron looked at Ben as he processed the Teens explanation. While Ben admitted it wasn't the best way to explain the complexities of government law and vigilante justice. But then again Ben wasn't really that good with that kind of stuff, even when he was taught it in the Plumbers' academy. Sure, he remembered what the rules and regulations were, but didn't mean he understood them. He just preferred to do things the Hero way and let the police or Plumbers handle the rest.
"That Logic is flawed." Ultron stated bluntly. "If the established system is ineffective in restoring order, then the rules and regulations should be altered to ensure order."
In response the Teen Hero simply shrugged in carefree attitude. "Don't know what to tell ya, dude. Guess humans are just flawed."
With that, Ben noticed that everyone was packing up and starting to head home. He quickly followed suit as there was someone he really needed to talk to, after everything that had happened today. As he walked off, Ultron remained still for a moment as he watched Ben and the other Avengers gather together and seeing the SHIELD Agents head to their own transports, with some giving the heroes some nasty looks.
The Machines cold eyes watched them as he processed all the information he had seen and heard. "Agreed. Humanity is flawed."
As that exchange went on, Captain America and Agent 13 continued their little talk by the SHIELD medical station. The Blonde Agents ankle was examined and lucky for her, it was only a sprain. With a little bit of rest shell be back to field work in no time.
"I'm grateful for your help today, Ma'am." Captain America said in a respectful tone.
In response Agent 13 giggled by the Super Soldiers attitude.
"Please Captain. After everything we've been through, I don't think you need to be so formal with me." She said in a carefree tone.
"My apologies, Agent 13." The Super Soldier responded, though still in a formal tone.
"How about this?" Agent 13 started to say. "How about off duty, I call you Steve and you can call me Sharon?"
"Sharon, huh?" Captain America said with a small grin. "Got a last name, Miss Sharon?"
Sharon gave the Super Soldier a warm smile as she cupped his cheek in her hand. "You'll have to wait and see, Captain."
"Perhaps we should meet each other, when I'm not about to be killed?" The Super Soldier suggested.
The Blonde Agent seemed to ponder the question for a moment, before playfully smirking at him. "I'll check my schedule. And I'll contact you."
"I didn't tell you my phone number?" Cap pointed out.
"Oh, I'm sure I can find a way." The SHEILD Agent teased before walking off. Leaving the Super Soldier as he watched her go with a smile on his face. Things were certainly starting to look up for the Man out of time.
Meanwhile in a back ally in the city, Hawkeye peaked over a corner and watched several SHIELD Agents run passed his hiding spot.
"You're clear." He said as the last one crossed his path. He turned around to see Black Widow emerge from the shadows.
After the battle was over, Hawkeye and Widow managed to slip away before the SHIELD could show up. Despite everything she'd done to save the world, without Nick Fury to clear her name, she was still a traitor to SHIELD and would be arrested on sight. Hawkeye knew too well what it was like to be wrongfully imprisoned. And he wasn't about to let her go through that. But still…
"This is crazy, Natasha. Come back to the mansion with me. The Avengers will protect you until we can locate Fury." He said.
Black Widow walked up to him and gazed into his blue eyes with her deep green ones. And her usual stone-cold expression softened.
"No, I have to find him. Clint, if Fury really is missing, then something terrible has happened." She told him, bowing her head. She then leaned in and placed her hands on his chest.
"Come with me."
Had she asked him that question a few months ago, before he believed she was a traitor. Hawkeye would've said yes without hesitation. Even now, the Archer wanted nothing more than to take her hand and disappear into the night on a grand adventure. After all, he felt as if he'd finally got his partner back, the one person he trusted above all others, the women he….
Anyway, he only just got her back and now he felt like he was going to lose her all over again. He wanted to say yes, he really did.
"I can't." He answered solemnly. "I'm an Avenger. They're my partners now."
As much as he would deny it. He'd really come to trust and respect his new team. Fighting and laughing alongside them. He'd found a level of comradery and trust that he really didn't have in SHIELD. With all the secrets and working in the shadows, he honestly felt restricted in those conditions, never getting to show what he can really do. Guess that's what happens when you grow up in the Circus. But the fact is, in the Avengers, the Archer finally felt free to be who he really is.
Hearing his response and seeing the determination in his eyes, Widow lowered her head in sadness. But she wasn't going to let that be the last memory they'll have between each other for a long time. She was never really that good at talking about or expressing her feelings. And since actions speak louder than words.
Natasha slid her hands around the back of Clint's neck, lifted her face up to his and leaned in. Clint was honestly surprised by the Scarlet Spy's actions, but his body reacted instinctively as he leaned in as well, they eyes closed as their lips pressed together.
The shadows of the ally concealed the Master Archer and Spy as they embraced passionately. Years of emotions that have been building up as colleges, friends, partners, enemies and now something new… Something special.
Eventually the two did separate and Clint was so lost in bliss from that moment. When he opened his eyes, Natasha was gone. Vanished into the night. But Clint didn't mind, he knew Natasha was never one for goodbyes. And he will count down the moments, until he sees her again.
After a few minutes, the Avengers finally arrived back at the mansion. Morning had already arrived in the city as the sun's warm rays crept across the sky filling it with a warm glow. While the Avengers that were human and not enhanced, were tired, after everything that occurred that night, sleep was the furthest thing from their mind.
As the Team disembarked from the Quinjet, Ben noticed that Wasp had remained behind in her seat. Leaning forward, with her hands clasped together with her elbows resting on her knees. Ben looked at her empathetically, now would be as good a time as any to talk to her about what was going on between them. He didn't exactly know what to expect, but he was pretty sure there was going to be a fight. Her overprotectiveness went to the extreme last night as she literally put her life on the line to protect him from getting hurt.
Even though Ben new he would've been able to handle it. He's dealt with beings that absorb life force before, so handling Baron Strucker would have been simple.
But in keeping with her new attitude towards him, she didn't seem to trust him to handle himself. And while Ben had been respectful of her feelings, for just vanishing on her and getting into trouble. This was getting way out of hand. If something like this happened again, with a villain that was stronger than Strucker… Ben didn't want to think what could happen in that situation.
The Teen Hero walked over to the Size Changing Heroine and sat down beside her. Ultron walked over as well and looked down on the Young Shapeshifter, Janet's orders apparently still in effect. Not exactly making this whole situation less uncomfortable.
Regardless, Ben wracked his brain trying to find the right thing to say to her at this moment. But everything he could think of would only serve to agitate her. He needed something that would say…
"I'm sorry, Ben." Janet suddenly said in a soft voice.
Ben froze. He was not expecting that.
Janet raised her head and looked up at Ultron. "Ultron, you can go. Ben's fine now."
"Understood." Ultron simply replied, before walking off and out of the Quinjet.
The Alien Teen looked over to the Female Avenger both surprised and confused. She then turned to Ben and looked at him with a sad expression.
"I'm sorry about how I've been acting, Ben. I know I've been a little overprotective these past few days." She admitted.
"Yeah… Just a little." Ben said awkwardly, breaking eye contact by Janet's clear understatement.
But he turned back to her and they resumed.
"It's just been a little hard for me. I mean, after learning what happened to you and when you confided in me about your family. I don't know, I guess I just started feeling. Responsible for you." She stated.
"I know that must sound weird, I'm not that much older than you and you have been a hero for way longer than I have. But after everything we've been through. All the fun we have, and honestly growing up as a single child, I never really had a brother. So, when you showed your trust in me about your family and came to me about relationship advice and all that. I guess I started to see you as my little brother."
As she talked, Ben couldn't help but get a warm smile on his face. If he were being honest with himself. He felt the same about her. Ever since he arrived in this world and joined the Avengers, she was the only one that was the closest to his age. And on a team consisting of Brainiac's, War Hero's, Anger Management Patients and a literal God. It was hard for the Young Man to be able to properly bond with any of them at first. Janet was the only stable, comfort in his life from day one in this new world. Without her positive fun loving attitude, for all Ben knew, he could've become a stereotypical brooding hero like in a comic book.
The Young Avenger leaned over and wrapped his arms around Janet, hugging her.
"I never had a sister either, Jan." He said warmly. "And I'm so glad I have an awesome one like you."
Janet let out a small gasp as Ben could feel his shoulder getting wet from her tears as she returned his hug. Squeezing him tightly as they stayed that way for a while before breaking apart.
"I'm sorry I worried you." Ben said apologetically. "And while I do appreciate you worrying about me. Maybe we can tone down the crazy overprotectiveness a little bit. I mean I can take care of myself."
Janet giggled as she wiped the tears from her eyes. "Yeah I know. I saw the beatdown you gave Strucker after I got zapped. You were pretty scary there for a while."
"Well yeah, dude hurt my Big Sis. I can't let that go." Ben said cheerfully.
The Size Changing Heroine gave him a warm smile as she placed her hand on his shoulder. "Well I promise to tone down the overprotectiveness, and in exchange you don't keep giving me heart attacks on missions. Do you have to be so reckless out there?"
"Hey, my recklessness saves the world. Be like telling Hulk not to be angry. It's my thing." He replied confidently.
His antics only earned a laugh from Janet as they both stood up and walked out of the Quinjet.
"Well then I guess I'll just have to keep watching your back out there, to make sure nothing bad happens to ya." She said in a teasing tone.
"I'm a big boy. I don't need a chaperone." Ben said in a playful manner.
"Don't talk back to me young man. I'm older than you and you have to listen to your big sister." She said in a joking manner.
"I take it back. You're lame."
In response Janet laughed as she grabbed the younger hero with one arm and used the other to ruffle his hair playfully, causing the Teen to laugh as they proceeded into the mansion. Both happy that they reached an understanding and that their relationship is stronger than ever.
The pair quickly joined the assembled team in the sitting room. Iron Man, sans his helmet, stood by the fireplace, while Giant Man sat on the couch, scooching over to Janet and Ben to sit next to him. Hawkeye and Ultron stood behind them while Hulk, Thor and Panther stood in the doorway. Captain America sat in a single chair as they all went over everything that had happened. Sharing stories of their individual adventures, while Ben, Hulk, Thor and Hawkeye all compared their scores from the number of bad guys they took down. Although Ultron surprised everyone by listing his score, which was higher than everyone else's, much to Giant Mans shock.
At the end of it, everyone was starting to feel pretty tired, as Janet leaned back on the couch.
"I can't believe all of that was for nothing." She said, stifling a yawn.
"Yeah. The cube thingamajig didn't even work." Ben stated, reaching into his pocket to feel the cube, resting comfortably in there. It was going to look great on his souvenir shelf.
"I knew it wouldn't work." Iron Man stated smugly.
"Just imagine though." Giant Man said, with a bit of wonder in his voice. What if they had done it? You can change anything just by touching the cube."
It was a thought that every gathered Avenger, except Ultron, pondered. What would they do if they had that power. Ben didn't need to imagine, as he actually knows what it feels like to have that kind of power. It's not exactly an easy question to answer.
"You touched it, Cap." Hawkeye suddenly said, pulling Ben from his train of thought. "If it had worked, how would you have changed things? What would you have wished for?"
Captain America sat back in his chair with his hands clasped in front of his mouth. After a few moments of thinking. He lowered his hands with a big smile on his face.
"The world did change today. Today the Avengers took down Hydra. Something I was never able to do in my time. And we didn't need wishes to do it."
He then looked over to his team, all of them with smiles on their faces. A feeling of contempt washed over the Super Soldier. For a long time he thought that he would be in the cycle of fighting forever. But right now, he actually felt hopeful. That the world was not one step closer to the peace he spent his life fighting for.
"I wouldn't change anything." He told them.
It was a feeling each Avengers shared at that moment. Despite everything that had happened to them, right now all the pieces seemed to fall into place.
The world and the Avengers, could finally enjoy the peace.
