2019 UPDATED: So this is for anyone new or old to this story, it has been so long since I completed this fic and the responce I have had for it has been so overwhelmingly positive. I honestly can't thank you all enough. And as much as I know people probably don't care about it as much I do, I wrote this story at a difficult point in my life and it helped me get through some stuff. Obviously back then my writing skills and story telling wasn't as good as I once thought, it's evident just by reading it, but writing is a learning skill, the more you do the better you get. I love this story, it's very dear to me, so that's why I want to go back and rewrite it. I'm not reuploading a different story, but I will be going back to every chapter of this and fixing all the mistakes I've made and updating it to a level of writing skill I have now. There were a lot of inconsistencies that many people were nice enough to over look and not let it ruin the story for them, however, I cry inside everytime I spot on. So I'm fixing them up. I'm going to make the conflicts, the plot points, and the overall story more believable and more realistic in situations. That mean's changing a couple of motives, taking things out that didn't have a place in this world which I originally thought it did. But for anyone who has read this story before, don't worry, the main story line and all the events and character plots are all going to stay the same, they will just be written differently so it's a better read and overall makes more sense. I'm not doing this for any reason other then I just want to. I'm amazed I finished this story and so many people loved it and now I want to breath new life into it. Every chapter will have a note when it has been updated, so if you're reading this for the first time and things seem to be a little inconsistent that will be the reason why. Again thank you everyone so much. If you notice the changes and think it's a lot better then please let me know... not that I can change it back, I wrote over the old file. Oh well, hope everyone enjoys the story ^^.

Okay so his is my first High School fic, this might be interesting. It is a little dark so there's a warning there. Truthfully I don't have a direct plan for this story, heck this chapter turned out darker then I had planned but there we go. All characters are their own age and look the same way clothes wise, so Sonic isn't in pants okay? I don't like that.

Anyway hope you enjoy and please review.

Life was better now.

Whenever he walked down the hallway in High School the blue hedgehog didn't feel the need to be hidden, not anymore. Now he walked with his head high, a little swag in his step and a cocky grin on his face as he passed a group of cute girls, sending them a wink to which they blushed for. His backpack hung loosely on his shoulder as his friends, yes friends, pulled a ball out from it and started to kick it down the narrow corridor.

He laughed with arrogance as the ball rolled to him, picking it up with his feet and kicking it into the air and skillfully balancing it on his foot in an effort to show off. He made sure all the girls were watching before kicking it back.

Everyone watched as a red echidna clumsily tripped over the ball, unable to keep up with the speed of it, before jogging up to the blue hedgehog and purposefully throwing himself on top of him, ruffling up his sharp quills with his big fists while laughing. The rest of their crew soon joined them. A green hawk, a purple chameleon and a silver hedgehog. With one word from the hall monitor telling them off, they all ran outside carrying the ball with them.

They reached the field in time to join in with a game that was already starting, each of them heading straight for their known positions. The red echidna ran to the goal post, just in time to stop the other team from scoring. He picked up the ball and shouted for the School's star player's attention. The blue hedgehog looked to his way and watched as the incredibly strong sixteen year old threw the ball out to him. Before anyone had a chance to reach it, he had it in the goal. No one could see either him or the ball as a gush of wind nearly threw everyone back, faster than if a tornado had hit them. A streak of blue ran through the opposing team, running circles around each member, before stopping for a single second in front of the goal. Then with a strong force he kicked the ball into the net.

Knuckles was the first to cheer, running to his friend with his arms in the air and jumping onto his back. The others followed until he was practically buried beneath his friends, each one cheering about their victory.

"Mr. Hedgehog! You are late once again" the voice sneered loudly through the classroom. Every student stopped through their work and looked up. The boy in trouble simply wiped the dust from his legs and shrugged his shoulders. The teacher stood tall with her arms crossed and unsettling features upon her face. She wasn't an old woman, but she had developed enough frown wrinkles to make her look as if she was.

Sonic barely even moved, deciding he would just smirk at his friends and ignore the woman, knowing that would infuriate her more then any response would. It was well known fact that he was hated by ever teacher in this place.

"Care to explain why you missed the first ten minutes of my class? And why there is mud all over your legs?" she asked stern, her eyes narrowing on the mud covering his shoes. If Sonic wasn't what she hated most of all then it was definitely mud or anything unclean. Her classroom was pristine at all times, the cleaners would never have any work from her space after hours. That was expect for moments like this, when that blue rat decided to show up. But it didn't matter whatever she said, as always he wasn't phased by it.

"I was transported into a book and forced to save a magic genie" Sonic answered, gaining a few laughs from his friends. The teacher wasn't impressed. "Don't get smart with me you pest" she yelled. Raising a brow, Sonic grinned further "I didn't think you'd know what smart was..."

"Sit down now!" she snapped "You can spend the half hour after school in detention for that comment" she said as she threw her book on her desk. Sonic rolled his eyes then walked over to his chair. However, once there he realised his normal spot where he sat with his friends was taken. In fact none of his friends had actually saved him a seat at all. He sent them a questioning glare but all they did was mouth an apology. At this point there was a big group with an odd number in and it was first come first served type of deal. If you didn't get a seat next to someone in the group, you sat with a loser. Irritated but with no real options, he looked around to see where he would sit, and to his horror there was only one seat left.

With a groan that everyone heard, the hedgehog played it up to the sympathetic laughs and snide comments that followed him as he sat down next to the two tailed freak in the back corner of the class next to the windows.

The young fox watched as the Football star pulled the chair as far away from him as he could, threw his bag under the desk and sat down angrily. Sonic wanted to make it as clear as possible to everyone that he wasn't happy sitting next to this kid and refused to even so much as glance at the fox, afraid he'd have to talk to him. Instead he did what he normally did, tip his chair back and place his muddy red shoes onto the desk.

The younger fox turned his nose up at the sight and tried to move his paper away from the boy's feet so not to ruin his work. In this case the feeling was very mutual. He didn't want to be seated next to the hedgehog as much as the other did. Sonic was a bully, no matter how much he denied it. The guy thought he was amazing because he has a super power that allows him to run faster than the speed of sound... which okay was cool but still! He always called him a freak for having two tails!

Sonic had despised Tails since the first day he came into his classroom. Most people did really. Everyone in that classroom was either fifteen or sixteen; the fox was only eight years old. The School had offered him a place, allowing him to skip so many years ahead of everyone else. While this showed his academic brilliance, it didn't make up for his lack of social skills. Tails had made the mistake of showing up one of Sonic's friends on his first day of being in their class. While the teacher commended him, the cool kids didn't feel so impressed with the smartass.

They tormented him ever since. But, truth be told, he would give anything to be accepted into that click. They were always going out and having fun, and Sonic looked so cool to hang out with. Tails however knew that that was never going to happen. You don't mess with Sonic's crew and get away with it. It just sucked though, he didn't mind having no friends, he had his inventions, but all he really wanted was to at least be friends with Sonic. He wanted to know about his powers, he wanted to know how such speeds were possible for someone and how he got them, but no matter what efforts he made, Tails couldn't get Sonic to like him.

It didn't matter though, he didn't care anymore, or at least that's what he would tell himself.

Sonic placed his hands behind his head as he tried to relax. He kept watching his friends, they all had their Science books out but none of them were doing any work, they were all just talking to each other and joking around, occasionally they would look over at him then quickly look back. They were talking about him, he knew it, but he couldn't hear anything they were saying. Sonic needed to distract himself, so turning his head slightly he watched as the young fox next to him read his book excitedly, writing down any information he found interesting and looking at their teacher to take in everything she was saying. He didn't get what the excitement was about.

"Sonic take your feet off the desk now" the teacher called out through the middle of her sentence. All eyes went to the hedgehog as they usually did, while he smiled at the teacher challengingly. It seemed like whenever he was annoyed with someone he would grinned menacingly at them, almost psychoticly sometimes. "Say please".

Sonic grumbled angrily to himself as he once again had to tediously write the same sentence again and again. I will not answer back to my Teacher.

He was told to write this 100 times on the projector board and by now his wrist were hurting. The final School bell had rung half an hour ago and everyone had left but him. He had planned to go out to the cinema after School with his friends, but that didn't happen. Sonic had really wanted to see Sally as well, he needed to make sure they were still cool, and that the argument they had yesterday hadn't broken them up again. Only instead of that he was still at this stupid dump and just wanted to leave.

After what felt like hours, he finally got all the lines done and the time was up. His Science teacher walked through the door, almost like she had been waiting till the very last second to enter. Her timing was always impeccable he gave her that. Turning around Sonic threw himself against the board and blew a sharp breath in relief it was over. The teacher sat down at one of the desks in the front row and stared at him, almost uncomfortably. She crossed her legs and held her hands together, "Do you have anything to say for yourself?" she asked and waited. Sonic looked to the door, seeing it half opened, almost baiting him to walk out early. "I'm sorry I was trying to teach you some manners" he replied, deciding it would be more fun to stay and mess with her some more.

As much as Sonic found it amusing however, he never knew how truly her blood boiled any time he dared open his mouth for a relentless quip. She hated him. Truly, truly hated him with everything she had. For as long as she has had Sonic as her student, everyday became a chore to her. It always went the same way, every single day. Sonic would be disobedient, refused to follow the rules, and in turn she would yell at him, argue with him, give him detentions, send him to the principle. Nothing worked.

This? This was her turn now. She had waited long enough to get her own back.

There was no warning when the teacher had finally snapped. She threw herself at the boy in front of her, grabbing his shoulders and sinking her feline claws into his skin.

Sonic cried out in pain and shock. "What are you doing?!" he yelled, trying to free himself from her, but she was a lot stronger then he had expected.

"I have had enough of it all. Every pathetic thing that comes out of your mouth, I'm sick of it!"

"Stop it you're hurting me!" Sonic winced, frantically now realising that this was happening, that his teacher was scratching down his shoulders and aggressively holding him captive against the wall. The door was opened and no one was hearing this. No one was hearing him struggle to get free. He was trapped there, and all he could think about where the familiar memories from long ago he had tried to forget. It made him scared.

"Please..."

"SHUT UP" the teacher screamed, unleashed her anger in the form of an opened fist coming down as a slap across his face.

Sonic threw his hands to his cheek, falling to the floor after his legs gave way from the shock of what just happened. His mind raced for the answer but he couldn't believe it had just happened. School was supposed to be safe... teachers weren't supposed to do that.

Kneeling down and taking a tight grip on his arms once again, the teacher drew her face uncomfortably close to his and talked in a quiet hissing tone. "You finally got what you deserve. Everyone in this place has wanted to do what I just did since the moment you stepped foot into this School. You've been nothing but an irritation, a thing I've grown to hate. You're a monster! And believe me, I fully intend on making the rest of your life here a living hell."

Sonic couldn't feel his heart beating, it felt as if everything had stopped in time. His green eyes were locked so intensely onto hers it struck fears he hadn't felt in years, he grew paralysed by her words.

"So, as I asked before, what do you have to say for yourself?"

"I'm sorry I'm so sorry please let me go I swear I wont do it again, I promise!" Sonic begged.

And then, as if she drew her hand to slap him again, his teacher smiled widely at him, causing his stomach to turn into knots. "Good, I'll be holding you to your word then" she said as she stood up and stepped back. "Now as for your homework, you'll be taking part in the Science project that I've assigned to the whole class. You have four weeks to complete it and it will be in teams. I've decided to pair you with Mr. Prower, the young boy you sat with today, you seemed to be getting on pretty well after all, I think he'd be a good influence on your behaviour" she smirked.

He still hadn't gotten up off the floor. Sonic felt so lost, her words were having very little impact on him now. Nothing made sense. This wasn't supposed to be able to happen.

"Tails has the homework and guidelines for you to follow. I expect 100% from you, especially now that you know I'm not screwing around." The look she held in her eyes, it was something Sonic knew he was never going to forget, her eyes looked dulled, as if there was no life left inside of them. It was too much, he had to leave, he needed to get out. Finally finding the strength in his legs that he was previously numb to, Sonic pushed himself up from the floor. His bag was nearby, already waiting for him to snatch it up as he pushed the door and stumbled out of the School with his super speed.

It was seconds when he reached the gates to exit the grounds, his brain flooded the words and actions that had just taken place, working hard as if he were to solve a puzzle. Should he tell? Who would he tell? It didn't work out last time why would it work now?

In his river of torment, Sonic didn't see the young girl standing in his way as he ran. Without a chance to slow down, he slammed into her causing them both to fall down on the ground.

His hand to his head, Sonic groaned as his vision blurred. He could just about make out a shape of someone's face, which was far too uncomfortably close to his. After blinking a few times, he tensed up when he recognised the pink quills and the large smile that formed between them. "Amy!" he sighed. "Sonic!" she squealed back. He suddenly realised that she was lying completely on top of him and her arms almost wrapped round his body in a hug, hopefully a result from the fall.

Even though she was happy to see him, it was not reciprocated. "What are you doing here? School broke half an hour ago?" he questioned.

"Well I knew you were going out today but then you got detention. I waited back so we could walk home together, seeing as how you might be lonely and all…" she trailed off. Normally on a good day Sonic wouldn't have the mentality to deal with his stalking neighbour, so today was a definite no on dealing with her now. He just wanted to go home.

Without caring if he hurt her or not Sonic pushed the girl off him, quickly standing up and grabbing his bag before dusting himself off. "Just go away Amy I don't have time for this!" he shouted at her.

Then, from seemingly nowhere, he felt the sting of tears start to burn in the corners of his eyes. Amy had noticed, she leaned forward and touched his shoulder without noticing the fresh scars that had been left there only moments ago. Her mind was occupied on other things. "Are you okay Sonic? I mean, it's okay if you don't wanna hang out. But I did miss the bus just to see you, and where it only takes you like five seconds to go home it takes me twenty minutes to walk" she laughed lightly.

"Yeah well start walking then" and on that Sonic left, a streak of blue leaving the confused and upset girl behind.

He didn't care though, he didn't care about anyone at this point. He just wanted to go home. Besides she didn't have any reason to be hurt. It's not like he grabbed her and pushed her against the wall and slapped her round the face!

He didn't know what to do or think or say. All he could do was runaway.

Finally he made it home.

There was a red car in the drive way, and for once he felt relieved knowing he wasn't going to be alone for much longer.

Sonic didn't hesitate, he threw the door open and ran inside. His normal routine would have been to take off his shoes, hang up his bag, head to his room and pretend to do his homework. He did none of that. He left his shoes on as he ran through the house, dropped his bag carelessly on the floor and hurried up the stairs.

There was only one room he was aiming for, that was his uncles lab.

He didn't need to check if his uncle with in that room or not, he could hear the loud music blaring away in the background that shows he was.

Opening the door gently, so as to not startle the working man, Sonic couldn't find the strength to hold back his tears any longer when his eyes laid upon the one person he truly cared about in this world.

His uncle, the brilliant inventor of his time, sat at his work desk hovering over his latest project, a sawing iron in one hand and a flame torch in another. Large goggles covered over his eyes and the music drowned any noise that the machines he was surrounded by were making. The older hedgehog hadn't heard a thing when it came to his nephew opening the door to his lab. In fact, it came as a bit of a fright to him when he felt a soft touch against his back. With a bit of a jump, he quickly switched everything off then removed his safety glasses.

"Sonic" he smiled as he turned around, but it dropped the moment he saw him.

There was no hesitation, Chuck stood up from his work chair and wrapped his arms around the young boy who began to cry in his hold. His eyes scanned all over, he saw the scratches on his shoulders, he saw the redness on his cheek. He saw everything he needed to see in order to know that someone had hurt him again.

Maybe the most popular boy in School wasn't as popular as everyone thought.
