Sora and Kairi sat on the top of the palace, looking down upon the square. Sora could easily spot his friends, Mulan and Shang, below them. However, he wasn't here to see them.

"So, Sora," Kairi smiled, "you said that they have the coolest New Year's celebration ever here. So when's it gonna start?"

The boy looked down at the crowd beneath them. "I'd say, right about… now!"

The Princess of Heart gasped as the sky suddenly filled with the most brilliant fireworks she'd ever seen. "Wow! You weren't kidding!"

"Why would I ever kid with you?" He leaned over and kissed Kairi's cheek.

The two sat and watched as the fireworks exploded overhead and the parade with the Chinese dragon went on below them. "This is absolutely beautiful!"

"Not as beautiful as you, Kairi Joy."

"You know, Sora," Kairi looked him in the eyes, "despite your silly stunts and stupid antics, you can be very romantic when you want to be."

"Well, it's a lot easier when I'm with a girl as beautiful as you."

"Oh Sora…" she stopped as the fireworks ended. "Are they over already?"

Sora leaned out over the edge, "No… the Emperor is just giving a speech. I'm sure they're just saving the best for last." He took out a small flashlight and flashed it on and off three times; down below, Mulan looked up at him and nodded. Sora stood up and stretched, making sure to step behind Kairi.

Suddenly, the sky lit up with brilliant flashes of color. Kairi sat, mesmerized. When finally the fireworks ended, Kairi stood up. "You were right! They did save the best for last!"

"As did I…"

"What?" Kairi turned around; her eyes widened and her breath stilled in surprise. "Oh, Sora…!"

Sora was behind her, down on one knee, with a little box in hand. "Kairi Joy Mizu… I may not be the handsome, smart, princely guy you deserve, but I love you more than anything in any world. Kairi… will you marry me?"

"Sora… yes, yes, and forever yes!" Tears filled her eyes as she knelt down and tackled Sora in a hug.

Sora laughed as Kairi tackled him; the boy looked into her eyes above his. "Happy New Year's Kairi!"

"Happy New Year's, Sora!" With that, the Princess of Heart closed her eyes and kissed her fiancé.

There were no happier people that New Year's than the two who sat atop that palace, that night…
